Adjustment of the conventional adjuvant chemotherapy doses affect the prognosis and may affect the efficacy of subsequent treatments. This study investigated whether the survival benefit of the SYSUCC-001 trial was affected by dose adjustment of the standard adjuvant chemotherapy or not.Patients and Methods: We reviewed the adjuvant chemotherapy regimens before the extended capecitabine in the SYSUCC-001 trial. Patients were classified into “consistent” (standard acceptable dose) and “inconsistent” (doses lower than acceptable dose) dose based on the minimum acceptable dose range in the landmark clinical trials. Cox proportional hazards model was used to investigate the impact of dose on the survival outcomes.Results: All 434 patients in SYSUCC-001 trial were enrolled in this study. Most of patients administered the anthracycline-taxane regimen accounted for 88.94%. Among patients in the “inconsistent” dose, 60.8% and 47% received lower doses of anthracycline and taxane separately. In the observation group, the “inconsistent” dose of anthracycline and taxane did not affect DFS compared with the “consistent” dose. Moreover, in the capecitabine group, the “inconsistent” anthracycline dose did not affect DFS compared with the “consistent” dose. However, patients with “consistent” taxane doses benefited significantly from extended capecitabine (P=0.014). The sufficient dose of adjuvant taxane had a positive effect of extended capecitabine (hazard ratio [HR] 2.04; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.02 to 4.06).Conclusion: This study found the dose reduction of adjuvant taxane might negatively impact the efficacy of capecitabine. Therefore, the reduction of anthracycline dose over paclitaxel should be given priority during conventional adjuvant chemotherapy, if patients need dose reduction and plan for extended capecitabine.Keywords: adjuvant chemotherapy, capecitabine, SYSUCC-001, triple-negative breast cancer, TNBC

However, there are fewer scientometric analysis related to HBOCs. Here, we illustrate recent studies on HBOCs using both a scientometric analysis approach and a scope review method. We used the former to investigate research on HBOCs from 1991 to 2022, exploring the current hotspots and research trends, and then we comprehensively analyzed the relationship between concepts based on the keyword analysis. The evolution of research fields, knowledge structures, and research topics in which HBOCs located are revealed by scientometric analysis. The elucidation of type, acting mechanism, potential clinical practice, and adverse effects of HBOCs helps to clarify the prospects of this biological agent. Furthermore, the baseline clinical data of these patients were collected, and the change curve of cTnI values following liver transplantation was plotted. Using univariate and multivariate logistic regression models, the relationship between the level of postoperative cTnI and short-term mortality was investigated. The primary study endpoint was mortality within 28 days after surgery.Results: We included 414 patients who had undergone liver transplantation in this study, 48 of whom died within 28 days after surgery. cTnI, a specific marker of myocardial injury, could predict that the postoperative cardiovascular complications were higher in the death group and significantly affect the short-term prognosis of patients; however, its prognostic cut-off value was approximately 0.545 ng/mL (13×URL), indicating that a minor elevation of cTnI after liver transplantation did not significantly affect the prognosis. Moreover, a comparison of the baseline data and postoperative ICU management scores of the two groups revealed that diabetes, maximum value of cTnI > 0.545 ng/mL within 7 days, and the need for postoperative renal replacement therapy (RRT) were independent prognostic factors of death within 28 days after liver transplantation.Conclusion: Within 7 days after surgery, an increase in cTnI to the maximum value of 0.545 ng/mL (13×URL) could have a significant impact on the short-term prognosis of patients. The patients’ general data, along with blood glucose, blood lipid, insulin, and sex hormone levels and other data, were collected. The TNF-α levels in the patients’ serum and uterine fluid were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Results: Compared with the patients in the control group, the body mass index (BMI), anti-Müllerian hormone, luteinizing hormone, testosterone (T), fasting insulin (FINS), homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), triglyceride (TG), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) of patients with PCOS were higher, and high-density lipoprotein was lower (P < 0.05). The TNF-α levels in the serum and uterine fluid of patients with PCOS were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.01), and the TNF-α levels in the uterine fluid of these patients was significantly correlated with BMI, T, FINS, HOMA-IR, serum TNF-α, TG, and LDL (P < 0.05).Conclusion: There is local inflammation in the uterine cavity of patients with PCOS, and the detection of cytokines in uterine secretions may be a simple and feasible method of understanding the uterine microenvironment of patients with PCOS.Keywords: polycystic ovary syndrome, uterine fluid, TNF-α, insulin resistance, lipid metabolism

Objective: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease of the joints characterized by inflammation and cartilage degeneration. Zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 2 (ZEB2) contains various function domains that interact with multiple transcription factors involved in various cellular functions. However, the function of ZEB2 in OA has not been clearly illustrated. Method: Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) was used to establish an OA model in vitro. We quantified the ZEB2 expression in cartilage tissues from OA patients and IL-1β-induced chondrocytes through reverse transcription–quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blot. We then used functional assays to explore the function of ZEB2 during OA progression. Results: ZEB2 expression was increased in OA cartilage tissues and chondrocytes. The silencing of ZEB2 increased aggrecan and collagen II levels, and reduced the content of matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3), MMP-9, and MMP-13. ZEB2 knockdown inhibited the effects of IL-1β on the production of nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2, and the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2. ZEB2 inhibition also suppressed the levels of IL-6 and tumour necrosis factor-α, and increased the IL-10 level in IL-1β-treated cells. Mechanically, ZEB2 knockdown blocked the activation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway in chondrocytes. Conclusion: Knockdown of ZEB2 alleviated IL-1β-induced cartilage degradation and the inflammatory response through the Wnt/β-catenin pathway in chondrocytes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The in situ AP-XPS measurements of oxygen oxidation process show that the Pt "skin" surface is not stable under the exposure of oxygen pressure of 100 mTorr at room temperature. As the temperature and pressure are elevated, the formations of Ni2O3, NiOx, and NiO are observed on surface while Pt atom starts to reduce its adsorbed oxygen, which is a clear sign of surface segregation of Ni to surface. Upon the evacuation of oxygen gas, i.e. ultrahigh vacuum condition, both of NiOx and NiO oxide get reduced and Ni2O3 remains on the surface. The DFT calculation is employed to explain the formation of surface oxides under oxidation condition.

The influence of a polyethylene glycol (PEG) coating on the distribution and toxicity of the NGO was also investigated. The results show that NGO is mainly retained in the liver, lung, and spleen. Retention in the lung is partially due to NGO aggregation. The PEG coating reduces the retention of NGO in the liver, lung, and spleen and promotes the clearance of NGO from these organs, but NGO and NGO-PEG are still present after 3 months. The PEG coating effectively reduces the early weight loss caused by NGO and alleviates NGO-induced acute tissue injuries, which can include damage to the liver, lung, and kidney, and chronic hepatic and lung fibrosis. The original description of Myxobolus hearti is supplemented with new data on spore morphology, histopathology and molecular phylogeny. Myxobolus hearti are found in the heart ventricle of the gibel carp, Carassius gibelio (Bloch), where they form whitish oval or irregularly shaped plasmodia. Mature spores are oval or shortly ellipsoidal in frontal view, lemon-shaped in sutural view and eye-shaped in apical view. The spores are 14.12 ± 0.35 (13.6-15) μm long (mean ± SD), 11.85 ± 0.34 ± 0.36 (11-12) μm wide and 7.32 ± 0.36 (7-8) μm thick. The two polar capsules are equal in size, 6.11 ± 0.29 (6-7) μm long and 3.89 ± 0.31(3-4) μm wide, and are long pyriform in shape. Polar filaments have six or seven coils situated perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the polar capsules. Histopathology indicates that the plasmodia are encased by the host connective tissue, and no inflammatory responses are found in the heart ventricles. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 18S small-subunit ribosomal DNA sequences indicates that M. hearti is, genetically, most similar to Henneguya doneci, a gill-infecting species. Objective: To explore the advantages and indications of the paraspinal approach by anatomical study and clinical application.Methods: The anatomical data and clinical practice of 27 cases were analyzed to explore the accurate approach between the paraspinal muscles and the structure of ambient tissues, as well as the results of clinical application of paraspinal approach. The operation time, blood loss, incision length, radiographic result (Cobb angle, height of anterior edge of the vertebrae) were compared with those in 24 cases treated by traditional approach.Results: Complete exposure of the facets could be easily performed by identifying natural cleavage plane between the multifidus and longissimus muscles. The natural muscular cleavage was (1.47+/-0.23) cm lateral to the midline for females, and (1.64+/-0.35) cm for males at T(12) level. The distance was (3.3+/-0.6) cm lateral to the midline for females, and (3.7+/-1.0) cm for males at L(4) level. In paraspinal approach group, the operation time was (76.2+/-15.7) min, blood loss was (91.6+/-16.9) ml and incision length was (7.6+/-0.8) cm. In traditional approach group, the operation time was (121.4+/-19.6) min, blood loss was (218.7+/-32.3) ml and incision length was (17.4+/-2.1) cm. To compare paraspinal approach with traditional approach, the operation time, blood loss and incision length had statistical difference (P less than 0.05) and the radiographic result (Cobb angle, height of anterior edge of the vertebrae) had no statistical difference (P larger than 0.05).Conclusions: When the paraspinal approach is performed through natural cleavage plane between the multifidus and longissimus muscles, there are no wide muscular disinsertions, leaving the supraspinous and interspinous ligaments intact. The distance of natural cleavage to the midline is different at T(12) and L(4) planes. By this approach, the facet joints can be explored easily and completely, and a clear surgical field will be available for the placement of pedicle screws. BACKGROUND: The effect of the addition of adjuvant chemotherapy to concurrent chemoradiotherapy in locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma is unclear. We aimed to assess the contribution of adjuvant chemotherapy to concurrent chemoradiotherapy versus concurrent chemoradiotherapy alone. METHODS: We did an open-label phase 3 multicentre randomised controlled trial at seven institutions in China. Randomisation was by a computer-generated random number code. Patients were stratified by treatment centre and randomly assigned in blocks of four. Treatment allocation was not masked. We randomly assigned patients with non-metastatic stage III or IV (except T3-4N0) nasopharyngeal carcinoma to receive concurrent chemoradiotherapy plus adjuvant chemotherapy or concurrent chemoradiotherapy alone. Patients in both groups received 40 mg/m(2) cisplatin weekly up to 7 weeks, concurrently with radiotherapy. Radiotherapy was given as 2·0-2·27 Gy per fraction with five daily fractions per week for 6-7 weeks to a total dose of 66 Gy or greater to the primary tumour and 60-66 Gy to the involved neck area. The concurrent chemoradiotherapy plus adjuvant chemotherapy group subsequently received 80 mg/m(2) adjuvant cisplatin and 800 mg/m(2) per day fluorouracil for 120 h every 4 weeks for three cycles. Our primary endpoint was failure-free survival. We did efficacy analyses in our intention-to-treat population. Our trial is ongoing; in this report we present the 2 year survival results and acute toxic effects. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT00677118. FINDINGS: 251 patients were assigned to the concurrent chemoradiotherapy plus adjuvant chemotherapy group and 257 to the concurrent chemoradiotherapy alone group. After a median follow-up of 37·8 months (range 1·3-61·0), the estimated 2 year failure-free survival rate was 86% (95% CI 81-90) in the concurrent chemoradiotherapy plus adjuvant chemotherapy group and 84% (78-88) in concurrent chemoradiotherapy only group (hazard ratio 0·74, 95% CI 0·49-1·10; p=0·13). Stomatitis was the most commonly reported grade 3 or 4 adverse event during both radiotherapy (76 of 249 patients in the concurrent chemoradiotherapy plus adjuvant chemotherapy group and 82 of 254 in the concurrent chemoradiotherapy alone group) and adjuvant chemotherapy (43 [21%] of 205 patients treated with adjuvant chemotherapy). INTERPRETATION: Adjuvant cisplatin and fluorouracil chemotherapy did not significantly improve failure-free survival after concurrent chemoradiotherapy in locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Longer follow-up is needed to fully assess survival and late toxic effects, but such regimens should not, at present, be used outside well-designed clinical trials. Huangshan Maofeng (HSMF) is a famous baked green tea from the Anhui Province of China, known for its "clean and fresh" flavor. Zhejiang, another major tea-producing province, focuses on the production of green teas. This study aimed to analyze the characteristic aroma components and specific enantiomeric distribution of significant chiral volatile compounds in HSMF and Zhejiang baked green tea (ZJ-BGT) with respect to their origins, cultivars and grades using stir bar sorptive extraction combined with non-targeted gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and enantiomeric GC-MS approaches. Unique enantiomeric distributions were identified for 2-methylbutanal, γ-nonanolactone, jasmine lactone, α-pinene, cis-linalool oxide (furanoid), and linalool in HSMF and ZJ-BGT. Jianghua Kucha (JHKC) is an ancient tea germplasm, which presents a high value for resource utilization but was less developed in aroma research. In this study, volatile metabolites in fresh leaves and corresponding black teas of JHKC, along with odorants of JHKC black teas were systematically investigated using stir-bar sorptive extraction in combination with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and GC-olfactometry/MS (GC-O/MS) technologies. A total of 128 and 135 volatile compounds were identified in fresh leaves and black teas, respectively, along with 13 key differential volatile components derived from fatty acids, pigments, glycoside precursors, and the terpene pathway. 18β-Glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) is an oleane-type pentacyclic triterpene saponin obtained from glycyrrhizic acid by removing 2 glucuronic acid groups. GA and its analogues are active substances of glycyrrhiza aicd, with similar structure and important pharmacological effects such as anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetes, anti-tumor and anti-fibrosis. Although GA combined compounds are in the clinical trial stages, its application potential is severely restricted by its low bioavailability, water solubility and membrane permeability. In this article, synthetic methods and structure-activity relationships (SARs) of GA derivatives from 2018 to present are reviewed based on pharmacological activity. Background: Carnosine, a natural bioactive dipeptide derived from meat muscle, possesses strong antioxidant properties. Dexamethasone, widely employed for treating various inflammatory diseases, raises concerns regarding its detrimental effects on bone health. This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of carnosine against dexamethasone-induced oxidative stress and bone impairment, along with its underlying mechanisms, utilizing chick embryos and a zebrafish model in vivo, as well as MC3T3-E1 cells in vitro., Results: Our findings revealed that carnosine effectively mitigated bone injury in dexamethasone-exposed chick embryos, accompanied by reduced oxidative stress. Further investigation demonstrated that carnosine alleviated impaired osteoblastic differentiation in MC3T3-E1 cells and zebrafish by suppressing the excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and enhancing the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX). Asthma, a widespread chronic inflammatory disease can contribute to different degrees of lung function damage. The objective of this study is to explore the potential effects of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitors in asthma using mice model induced by ovalbumin (OVA). BALB/c mice were treated with OVA to establish an asthma model. Mice were intranasally challenged with different NOS inhibitors and analyzed the impact of NOS inhibitors on the lung tissues and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF). Histopathological analysis was performed by Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS) staining. Airway reactivity was assessed using methacholine challenge testing. The concentrations of nitric oxide (NO), Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), and cytokines were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) assay. NOS inhibitors effectively improved airway inflammation and reduced airway hyperresponsiveness. In addition, NOS inhibitors decreased the concentrations of NO, NETs, and inflammation in the airway and BALF. Background: Epidemiological surveys indicate an increasing incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) among children and adolescents worldwide. Due to rapid disease progression, severe long-term cardiorenal complications, a lack of effective treatment strategies, and substantial socioeconomic burdens, it has become an urgent public health issue that requires management and resolution. Adolescent T2DM differs from adult T2DM. Despite a significant increase in our understanding of youth-onset T2DM over the past two decades, the related review and evidence-based content remain limited., Aim: To visualize the hotspots and trends in pediatric and adolescent T2DM research and to forecast their future research themes., Methods: This study utilized the terms "children", "adolescents", and "type 2 diabetes", retrieving relevant articles published between 1983 and 2023 from three citation databases within the Web of Science Core Collection (SCI, SSCI, ESCI). Utilizing CiteSpace and VoSviewer software, we analyze and visually represent the annual output of literature, countries involved, and participating institutions. This allows us to predict trends in this research field. Our analysis encompasses co-cited authors, journal overlays, citation overlays, time-zone views, keyword analysis, and reference analysis, etc., Results: A total of 9210 articles were included, and the annual publication volume in this field showed a steady growth trend. The United States had the highest number of publications and the highest H-index. The United States also had the most research institutions and the strongest research capacity. The global hot journals were primarily diabetes professional journals but also included journals related to nutrition, endocrinology, and metabolism. Keyword analysis showed that research related to endothelial dysfunction, exposure risk, cardiac metabolic risk, changes in gut microbiota, the impact on comorbidities and outcomes, etc., were emerging keywords. Numerous studies on the formation and consolidation of memory have shown that memory processes are characterized by phase-dependent and dynamic regulation. Memory retrieval, as the only representation of memory content and an active form of memory processing that induces memory reconsolidation, has attracted increasing attention in recent years. Although the molecular mechanisms specific to memory retrieval-induced reconsolidation have been gradually revealed, an understanding of the time-dependent regulatory mechanisms of this process is still lacking. In this study, we applied a transcriptome analysis of memory retrieval at different time points in the recent memory stage. Differential expression analysis and Short Time-series Expression Miner (STEM) depicting temporal gene expression patterns indicated that most differential gene expression occurred at 48 h, and the STEM cluster showing the greatest transcriptional upregulation at 48 h demonstrated the most significant difference. We then screened the differentially-expressed genes associated with that met the expression patterns of those cluster-identified genes that have been reported to be involved in learning and memory processes in addition to dipeptidyl peptidase 9 (DPP9). Further quantitative polymerase chain reaction verification and pharmacological intervention suggested that DPP9 is involved in 48-h fear memory retrieval and viral vector-mediated overexpression of DPP9 countered the 48-h retrieval-induced attenuation of fear memory. Objective: Concomitant nasopharyngeal and otomastoid tuberculosis (TB) is an extremely rare clinical condition. So far, there have only been 2 such cases reported in English literature, and another 2 such cases have been reported in Chinese literature. The objective of this work is to summarize our experience dealing with this condition and to review the literature. Methods: A retrospective review of cases with concomitant nasopharyngeal and otomastoid TB treated at 2 tertiary medical institutions between June 2022 and May 2024 was undertaken. Data were retrieved from case notes and analyzed. Results: In total, 3 cases were included (2 male patients were from the former institution, and 1 female patient was from the latter). One case was bilateral, and the other 2 cases were unilateral. Their age was between 23 years old and 49 years old (average and median age was 36.3 and 37 years old, respectively). Presenting symptoms included ear fullness, hearing loss, otorrhea, facial paralysis, and otalgia. Careful diagnostic work-up led to the discovery of both otomastoid and nasopharyngeal lesions in all patients. Surgical procedures were planned, and histopathological examination of lesions of both sites was suggestive of TB for all cases, while polymerase chain reaction (PCR) confirmed the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis . All patients were subjected to 6 months of anti-TB treatment. The median duration of follow-up was 10 months. No recurrence was documented. A summary of all 7 such cases was also presented. Conclusions: Concomitant nasopharyngeal and otomastoid tuberculosis is very rarely encountered. Surgery or surgical biopsy is important for both treatment and diagnosis. After confirmation of TB by histopathology and PCR, anti-TB treatment is very important for the prevention of recurrence. The lack of early renal function recovery among geriatric patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is a commonly observed and acknowledged poor prognostic factor, especially for older adults. However, no reliable prognostic biomarker is available for identifying individuals at risk of renal non-recovery or mortality in older adults. In this prospective observational cohort study, we enrolled critically ill older adults (aged ≥ 60 years) with AKI from the ICU and followed their disease progression. The primary endpoint was renal non-recovery within seven days of follow-up, while the secondary endpoint was the determinants of 30-day mortality after AKI. We assessed the predictive accuracy using receiver operating characteristic curves and performed between-group comparisons using the log-rank test. Among 209 older adults, 117 (56.0%) experienced renal recovery. Multiple regression analysis revealed that urine levels of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) multiplied by insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 7 (IGFBP7) ([TIMP-2]*[IGFBP7]), AKI stages 2-3, and the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE II) score were independently associated with renal non-recovery. The regression model incorporating [TIMP-2]*[IGFBP7] demonstrated a fair predictive value (AUC 0.774, p  < 0.001), with the optimal threshold set at 0.81 (ng/mL) 2 /1000. When [TIMP-2]*[IGFBP7] was combined with AKI severity and the APACHE score, the AUC increased to 0.851. In conclusion, urine [TIMP-2]*[IGFBP7] is a reliable biomarker associated with renal non-recovery in critically ill older adults, and its predictive efficacy can be further enhanced when combined with AKI severity and the APACHE score.

Objective: This prospective randomized controlled study was conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Pringle hepatic hilar occlusion with a bulldog clamp in laparoscopic liver resection., Methods: From March 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021, 80 patients were enrolled, including 40 undergoing intraperitoneal Pringle maneuver (IPM) and 40 extraperitoneal Pringle maneuver (EPM). The observation indices included basic preoperative clinical characteristics and intraoperative and postoperative liver function indices., Results: There were no significant differences in the basic characteristics or types of hepatectomy, intraoperative blood loss, intraoperative blood transfusion, or hepatectomy time between the IPM and EPM groups. However, the blocking and operation time in the IPM group was shorter than that in the EPM group. There were no significant differences in alanine aminotransferase (ALT) or aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels on the first day after surgery or in total bilirubin (TBIL) or albumin (ALB) levels on the first, third, or fifth days after surgery. However, C-reactive protein (CRP) levels on the first and third days, ALT and AST levels on the third and fifth days were lower, and hospital stay after surgery was shorter in the IPM group than in the EPM group., Conclusion: IPM using bulldog clamps is simple, safe, and effective. We recruited a healthy 44-year-old female and obtained her skin fibroblasts. Subsequently, the induced pluripotent stem cell line was successfully established using non-integrated reprogramming technology.
