31. Measurable surface dcharge of Pd as a descriptor for the selective hydrogenation activity of quinoline

Abstract

AuPd nanoalloys with tunable Pd concentrations have been synthesized and used as model catalysts. They have been directly imaged by high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy and investigated by thorough analyses of their extended X-ray absorption fine structure, X-ray absorption near-edge structure, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements. The bimetallic nanoparticles are embedded in a carbonaceous matrix and have almost an identical structure at the atomic level and the same electronic properties as AuPd bulk alloys with the same compositions. The d-electron increase at surface Pd sites is determined by the Pd concentration of the alloy. Similarly, their activation entropy and catalytic activity for the hydrogenation of quinoline is related to the Pd concentration, with Au50Pd50the most active of the alloys investigated. An almost 11 times higher activity was achieved compared to a pure Pd catalyst. The experimentally measurable surface dcharge at the Pd sites in the AuPd was found to linearly correlate with the activation entropy and catalytic activity for the hydrogenation of quinoline. The alloy structure is stable, showing negligible metal segregation, dissolution-redeposition and aggregation during the hydrogenation process which involves strong adsorption.

Abstract

A series of propargylic alcohol was synthesized by the addition of phenylacetylene to isatin and its Nsubstituted derivatives for the first time. This reaction involves activation of zinc reagent viacoordination with carbonyl substrates that behave “ligand like.” The bioactivities on protective effect on the apoptosis of PC12 cells induced by H2O2and cytotoxicity against lung cancer A549 and P388 cell line of these compounds were investigated, and several compounds showed potent activities. Abstract: Four hydroquinone diglycoside acyl esters, glypentosides A–C (1–3) and seguinoside F (4), were isolated from the stems of Glycosmis pentaphylla. Glypentosides A–B (1–2) were identified as compounds and designated as methoxyquinol 4-O-[(5-O-trans-p-coumaroyl)-β-d-apiofuranosyl-(1→2)-β-d-glucopyranoside] (1) and 4-demethylantiarol 4-O-[(3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-benzoyl)-β-d-apiofuranosyl-(1→2)-β-d-glucopyranoside] (2). Glypentoside C (3) is a hydroquinone diglycoside acyl ester with a neolignan moiety in the acyl unit.
