In this paper, we investigate the quasinormal mode (QNM) spectra for scalar perturbation over a quantum-corrected black hole (BH). The fundamental modes of this quantum-corrected BH exhibit two key properties. Firstly, there is a non-monotonic behavior concerning the quantum-corrected parameter for zero multipole number. Secondly, the quantum gravity effects result in slower decay modes. For higher overtones, a significant deviation becomes evident between the quasinormal frequencies (QNFs) of the quantum-corrected and Schwarzschild BHs. The intervention of quantum gravity corrections induces a significant outburst of overtones. This outburst of these overtones can be attributed to the distinctions near the event horizons between the Schwarzschild and quantum-corrected BHs. Recently, a covariant spherically symmetric model of a black hole within the framework of loop quantum gravity (LQG), characterized by a quantum parameter $r_0$ or $\lambda$, has been proposed. To derive constraints on the LQG-corrected parameter, we explore observational constraints imposed on $r_0$ and $\lambda$ through investigations of the light deflection, the Shapiro time delay, the precession of perihelia, and the geodetic precession test. The cosmological tensor perturbation equation with generalized holonomy corrections is derived in the framework of effective loop quantum gravity. This results in a generalized dispersion relation for gravitational waves, encompassing holonomy corrections. Furthermore, we conduct an examination of the constraint algebra concerning vector modes with generalized holonomy corrections. The requirement of anomaly cancellation for vector modes imposes constraints on the possible functional forms of the generalized holonomy corrections. In recent years, the methods on matrix-based or bilinear discriminant analysis (BLDA) have received much attention. Despite their advantages, it has been reported that the traditional vector-based regularized LDA (RLDA) is still quite competitive and could outperform BLDA on some benchmark datasets. Nevertheless, it is also noted that this finding is mainly limited to image data. In this paper, we propose regularized BLDA (RBLDA) and further explore the comparison between RLDA and RBLDA on another type of matrix data, namely multivariate time series (MTS). Unlike image data, MTS typically consists of multiple variables measured at different time points. Although many methods for MTS data classification exist within the literature, there is relatively little work in exploring the matrix data structure of MTS data. Moreover, the existing BLDA can not be performed when one of its within-class matrices is singular. To address the two problems, we propose RBLDA for MTS data classification, where each of the two within-class matrices is regularized via one parameter. We develop an efficient implementation of RBLDA and an efficient model selection algorithm with which the cross validation procedure for RBLDA can be performed efficiently. Experiments on a number of real MTS data sets are conducted to evaluate the proposed algorithm and compare RBLDA with several closely related methods, including RLDA and BLDA. We study discrete solitons in zigzag discrete waveguide arrays with different types of linear mixing between nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor couplings. The waveguide array is constructed from two layers of one-dimensional (1D) waveguide arrays arranged in zigzag form. If we alternately label the number of waveguides between the two layers, the cross-layer couplings (which couple one waveguide in one layer with two adjacent waveguides in the other layer) construct the nearestneighbor couplings, while the couplings that couple this waveguide with the two nearest-neighbor waveguides in the same layer, i.e., self-layer couplings, contribute the next-nearest-neighbor couplings. Two families of discrete solitons are found when these couplings feature different types of linear mixing. As the total power is increased, a phase transition of the second kind occurs for discrete solitons in one type of setting, which is formed when the nearest-neighbor coupling and next-nearest-neighbor coupling feature positive and negative linear mixing, respectively.
