Flavonol and flavonoid compounds are important natural compounds with various biomedical activities. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop a strategy for the specific extraction of flavonol and flavonoid compounds. Quercetin is a well-studied flavonoid possessing many health benefits. This compound is a versatile antioxidant known to possess protective abilities against body tissue injury induced by pathological situations and various drug toxicities. Although quercetin is widely distributed in many plants, its content generally is not very high. Therefore, the specific extraction of quercetin as well as other flavonol and flavonoid compounds has profound significance. In this work, the quercetin molecularly imprinting polymer (QMIP) was successfully prepared, in which a typical flavonol quercetin was selected as the template molecule. QMIP was synthesized by performing the surface molecular imprinting technology on the surface of NH2-MIL-101(Fe). Our study results showed that QMIP exhibited quick binding kinetic behavior, a high adsorption capacity (57.04 mg/g), and the specific recognition ability toward quercetin compared with structurally distinct compounds (selective factor > 2). The specific adsorption ability of quercetin by QMIP was further explained using computation simulation that molecules with non-planar 3D conformations hardly entered the molecularly imprinted cavities on QMIP. Finally, QMIP was successfully used for the specific extraction of quercetin and five other flavonol and flavonoid compounds in the crude extracts from Sapium sebiferum. This study proposes a new strategy to synthesize the molecularly imprinted polymer based on a single template for enriching and loading a certain class of active ingredients with similar core structures from variable botanicals. Artemisia argyi leaves are a perennial herb belonging to the Asteraceae family, which has the functions of placenta placenta and hemostasis, dispelling cold and expelling dampness. Artemisia argyi leaves contains protein, fat, vitamins, mineral elements, and other nutrients, with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and other effects. As a feed additive, Artemisia argyi leaves can enhance the growth performance and immune function of animals, as well as improve the quality of animal products. Therefore, the molecular mechanism of Artemisia argyi leaves and their active components to play related functions deserves further study. In this paper, the extraction technology, application and action mechanism of the active components of Artemisia argyi leaves were reviewed, so as to provide a reference for rational application of Artemisia argyi leaves in animal production. Walnut cake and walnut meal are the by-products of walnuts after oil extraction. Walnut cake and meal are rich in nutrients such as protein and vitamins, but are high in dry matter and crude fiber. Walnut cake and meal have the advantages of large yield and low price, which can be used as a substitute for conventional protein feed in animal production, and can decrease the fodder in the premix of corresponding dosage of the trace elements and vitamins. The paper mainly reviews the nutritional value of walnut cake and walnut meal, the production process and their applications in the animal production, to provide a reference for the rational application of walnut cake and walnut meal in animal production. The aim of the study was to testify the association of dietary resveratrol (RSV) intakes with hip fracture risk in Chinese elderly. This was a 1:1 age‐ and gender‐ matched case–control study. Eligible cases were newly diagnosed patients of hip fracture. Dietary assessment was made by a 79‐item validated food frequency questionnaire. Habitual RSV intakes were estimated as the sum of trans‐ and cis‐ isomers of resveratrol and piceid according to the available database. Multivariable conditional logistic regression was applied to examine the relationship of dietary RSV and RSV‐rich foods with hip fracture risk. A total of 1,070 pairs of hip fracture incident cases and controls were recruited and 1,065 were included for analysis. Compared with the lowest group, total RSV in the highest quartile group had significantly reduced hip fracture risk by 66.3% (OR: 0.337, 0.222 ~ 0.571, ptrend < 0.001). Similar findings were observed for cis‐ and trans‐RSV, cis‐ and trans‐Piceid, as well as RSV‐rich foods (grapes, apples and nuts) respectively. Subgroup analysis suggested more evident findings among female and less obese participants. Our findings demonstrated that higher habitual RSV intakes and RSV‐rich foods, even in a relatively low amount, were associated with reduced risk of hip fracture in Chinese elderly. The association between dietary Fe intake and diabetes risk remains inconsistent. We aimed to explore the association between dietary Fe intake and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) risk in middle-aged and older adults in urban China. This study used data from the Guangzhou Nutrition and Health Study, an on-going community-based prospective cohort study. Participants were recruited from 2008 to 2013 in Guangzhou community. A total of 2696 participants aged 40–75 years without T2DM at baseline were included in data analyses, with a median of 5·6 (interquartile range 4·1–5·9) years of follow-up. T2DM was identified by self-reported diagnosis, fasting glucose ≥ 7·0 mmol/l or glycosylated Hb ≥ 6·5 %. Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HR) and 95 % CI. We ascertained 205 incident T2DM cases during 13 476 person-years. The adjusted HR for T2DM risk in the fourth quartile of haem Fe intake was 1·92 (95 % CI 1·07, 3·46; Ptrend = 0·010), compared with the first quartile intake. These significant associations were found in haem Fe intake from total meat (HR 2·74; 95 % CI 1·22, 6·15; Ptrend = 0·011) and haem Fe intake from red meat (HR 1·86; 95 % CI 1·01, 3·44; Ptrend = 0·034), but not haem Fe intake from processed meat, poultry or fish/shellfish. The association between dietary intake of total Fe or non-haem Fe with T2DM risk had no significance. Our findings suggested that higher dietary intake of haem Fe (especially from red meat), but not total Fe or non-haem Fe, was associated with greater T2DM risk in middle-aged and older adults.
