Patients with severe depression showed an increased mean platelet volume (MPV) (P < 0.05). In the patients with depression, MPV was positively correlated (P < 0.05) with HAM

6. A novel two-step search scheme for IR-UWB in multipath channels

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a novel two-step search scheme for Impulse-like Radio Ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) in order to utilize the Multipath Components (MPCs) effectively. The search scheme includes two successive steps, named coarse acquisition and fine acquisition. During the coarse phase, two adaptive template signals are generated to correlate with the received signals respectively. By this means, the search region is decreased rapidly. Then based on new search region a full serial search scheme is used during the fine phase. This algorithm utilizes the paths with relatively significant energy, and has a remarkable reduction in mean acquisition time. Further more, it also addresses the channel estimation based on which a partial RAKE receiver could be designed expediently. Simulations are performed to verify our conclusions.

7. A power threshold based policy for vertical handoff in heterogeneous networks

Abstract

Vertical handoff of multi-interface mobile hosts is one of the most significant challenges for the next generation heterogeneous wireless networks. Several vertical handoff policies have been proposed to decide the target network for each active application in a mobile host (MH), but no careful consideration is given to manage the relationship among multiple handoff decision processes of all these applications. In order to solve this problem, a power threshold based handoff policy is proposed, in which the battery duration of the MH is taken into account, and flexible control of multiple handoff decision processes of the ongoing applications is realized. Performance analysis and numerical simulation demonstrate that, by adjusting the power threshold defined in our policy, various degrees of compromise can be achieved between the spectral efficiency of the heterogeneous networks and the battery duration of the MH.

Abstract

Because the general Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method is easily to get trapped in some fixed state especially in the case of high SNR condition or iteration process that leads to performance degradation, in this paper, an improved MCMC algorithm is presented. Determining the initial sample value based on MMSE principle, the Markov chain is convergent rapidly. Simulation results show that the mentioned algorithm can improve the BER performance and reduce computational complexity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
