6. CtlGAN: Few-shot Artistic Portraits Generation with Contrastive Transfer Learning

Abstract

Generating artistic portraits is a challenging problem in computer vision. Existing portrait stylization models that generate good quality results are based on Image-to-Image Translation and require abundant data from both source and target domains. However, without enough data, these methods would result in overfitting. In this work, we propose CtlGAN, a new few-shot artistic portraits generation model with a novel contrastive transfer learning strategy. We adapt a pretrained StyleGAN in the source domain to a target artistic domain with no more than 10 artistic faces. To reduce overfitting to the few training examples, we introduce a novel Cross-Domain Triplet loss which explicitly encourages the target instances generated from different latent codes to be distinguishable. We propose a new encoder which embeds real faces into Z+ space and proposes a dual-path training strategy to better cope with the adapted decoder and eliminate the artifacts. Extensive qualitative, quantitative comparisons and a user study show our method significantly outperforms state-of-the-arts under 10-shot and 1-shot settings and generates high quality artistic portraits. The code will be made publicly available.

19. Constant Tamagawa numbers of special elliptic curves

Abstract

For the elliptic curves $E_{\sigma 2D} : y^2 = x^3 + \sigma 2Dx$ , which has 2-isogeny curve $E'_{\sigma 2D} : y^2 = x^3 -\sigma 8Dx$, $\sigma = \pm 1,\ D = p_1^{e_1}p_2^{e_2}\cdots p_n^{e_n}$, where $p_i$ are different odd prime numbers and $e_i = 1 \text{ or } 3$, we demonstrate that Tamagawa numbers of these elliptic curves are always one or zero by the use of matrix in finite field $\mathbb F_2$. The specific number depends on the value of $\sigma$. By our proofs of these results, we find a method to quickly sieve a part of the elliptic curves with Mordell-Weil rank zero or rank one in this form as an application.

Abstract

Background and purpose: Long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) plays a critical role in the malignant progression of tumors. Former study identified lncRNA stathmin 1 pseudogene 2 (STMN1P2) was aberrantly expressed in breast cancer tissues with microarray. However, the role it executes in breast cancer is still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the expression and function of STMN1P2 in breast cancer cells and its underlying mechanism. Methods: Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RTFQ-PCR) was used to verify the expression of STMN1P2 in breast cancer tissues from 27 breast cancer patients who were treated in Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center and paracancerous tissues, 3 breast cancer cell lines of MDA-MB-231, BT-549, MCF-7 and human mammary epithelial cell line MCF-10A. STMN1P2 levels were downregulated or upregulated, and transwell, cell apoptosis and cell cycle detection assays were performed to study the biological functions of STMN1P2. 48. Distribution Control and Environmental Fate of PFAS in the Offshore Region Adjacent to the Yangtze River Estuary─A Study Combining Multiple Phases Analysis

Abstract

The Yangtze River Estuary is the terminal sink of terrestrial per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from the Yangtze River, while the environmental fate characteristics of legacy and emerging PFAS around this region have rarely been discussed. Here, 24 targeted PFAS in seawater, sediments, suspended particulate matter (SPM), and plankton in the offshore region adjacent to this estuary were investigated. The three dominant PFAS in all phases were perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA, 23.8–61.9%), perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA, 23.6–42.8%), and perfluoro(2-methyl-3-oxahexanoic) acid (HFPO-DA, 6.1–12.1%), and perfluoro-1-butane sulfonamide (FBSA, 0.1–7.3%) was first detected. The horizontal distributions of PFAS were dependent on salinity and disturbed by multiple water masses, while the vertical variations could be explained by their different partitioning characteristics in the water-SPM-sediment system (partition coefficients, Log Kdand Log Koc) and plankton (bioaccumulation factors, Log BAF). Although physical mixing was the major driver for PFAS settling (>83.7%), the absolute settling amount caused by the biological pump was still high (150.00–41994.65 ng m–2day–1). More importantly, we found unexpected high Log Kdvalues of PFBA (2.24–4.55) and HFPO-DA (2.26–4.67), equal to PFOA (2.28–4.72), which brought concerns about their environmental persistence. Considering the increased detection of short-chain and emerging PFAS, more comprehensive environmental behaviors analysis is required urgently.
