13. Effect of laying hen's diet on body weight, serum biochemical indexes, testicular morphology and semen quality of Wannan yellow chicken roosters.

Abstract

The study was to investigate the effect of laying hen's diet on the body weight, serum biochemical indexes, testicular morphology and semen quality of Wannan yellow chicken roosters. Sixty 30-week-old Wannan yellow chicken roosters were randomly divided into two groups (laying hen's diet group and rooster's diet group), roosters were fed a laying hen's diet and a rooster's diet, respectively. The experiment lasted eight weeks. The results showed that the serum calcium content of the roosters fed the laying hen's diet was higher than those fed the rooster's diet in the middle stage of the experiment (P<0.05), and the glucose content was lower than that in the rooster's diet group (P<0.05). At the end of the experiment, the content of serum calcium in the laying hen's diet group was higher than that in the rooster's diet group (P<0.05), and the androgen level was lower than that in the rooster's diet group (P<0.05). The number of leydig cells per unit area, semen volume, semen color and sperm concentration of the rooster's diet group was higher than those of the hen's diet group. The study indicates that the laying hen's diet can increase the serum calcium content and decrease the number of testicular interstitial cells, which can lead to the decrease of serum androgen level and sperm density. Abstract

Mechanically stretchable photonics provides a new geometric degree of freedom for photonic system design and foresees applications ranging from artificial skins to soft wearable electronics. Here we describe the design and experimental realization of the first single-mode stretchable photonic devices. These devices, made of chalcogenide glass and epoxy polymer materials, are monolithically integrated on elastomer substrates. To impart mechanical stretching capability to devices built using these intrinsically brittle materials, our design strategy involves local substrate stiffening to minimize shape deformation of critical photonic components, and interconnecting optical waveguides assuming a meandering Euler spiral geometry to mitigate radiative optical loss. Devices fabricated following such design can sustain 41% nominal tensile strain and 3000 stretching cycles without measurable degradation in optical performance. In addition, we present a rigorous analytical model to quantitatively predict stress-optical coupling behavior in waveguide devices of arbitrary geometry without using a single fitting parameter.

40. Effect of fermented peony seed meal on production performance, egg quality and serum antibody levels of laying hens.

Abstract

The experiment was to study the effect of Bacillus subtilis fermented peony seed meal on production performance, egg quality and serum antibody level of laying hens. A total of 384 healthy Hyline brown laying hens at 26 w of age with similar body weight and performance were randomly divided into four groups, with four replicates in each group and 24 hens in each replicate. The hens in control group were fed with conventional diets, and the hens in experimental group I, group II and group III were fed with 6% peony seed meal, 6% fermented peony seed meal and 12% fermented peony seed meal, respectively. The experiment lasted for 8 w. The results showed that there were no significant differences in mortality rate and broken egg rate among all groups (P>0.05). The average daily feed intake and laying rate of laying hens in experimental group III were significantly lower than those in the other three groups (P<0.05). The feed to egg ratio of laying hens in experimental group was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05). Compared with experimental group I, laying rate in experimental groups II was significantly increased by 1.14% (P<0.05), the eggshell color, eggshell strength, eggshell thickness and Haelloy unit of eggs in experimental group II were increased by 0.3.39%, 4.06%, 2.86%, 2.77%, respectively. Eggshell thickness and eggshell strength of experimental group III were significantly increased (P<0.05). The antibody levels of subtype avian influenza H5, H7, H9 and Newcastle disease were increased to a certain extent compared with the initial stage of the experiment, and the increase was the largest in experimental group II. Abstract

In the letter, a simply printed planar antenna covering GSM850/900/1800/1900/UMTS2100 and LTE700/2300/2500 operating frequency bands for wireless USB dongle applications is proposed, designed, and fabricated. The presented antenna consists of a large patch and a matching network in order to enhance impedance bandwidth. The upper operating bands including GSM1800/1900/UMTS2100/LTE2300/2500 are primarily attributed to the large patch. Meanwhile, the lower resonant modes covering LTE700/GSM850/900 bands are generated physically by ground planes of both the USB dongle circuit board and the laptop board. The impedance matching over all bands is improved by the matching network. The proposed antenna occupies a small size of 20 t20n mm2 and can be easily printed on a 0.8-mm-thick FR4 substrate of conventional dimensions of 20 t70nmm2, which makes it promising for wireless USB dongle applications.

Abstract

In the course of our screening program for novel glycine transporter inhibitors, we obtained a novel cyclic tetrapeptide (WSS2220) from the culture broth of Nonomuraea sp. The structure of WSS2220 was elucidated based on physicochemical data. WSS2220 contained a novel amino acid (4-oxo-3′-sulfoisoleucine), the absolute stereochemistry of which was determined by chemical modifications and the modified Mosher’s method. WSS2220 selectively inhibited glycine transporter type1 with an IC50 of 20 nM.
