This paper addresses the inverse scattering problem of a random potential associated with the polyharmonic wave equation in two and three dimensions. The random potential is represented as a centered complex-valued generalized microlocally isotropic Gaussian random field, where its covariance and relation operators are characterized as conventional pseudo-differential operators. Regarding the direct scattering problem, the well-posedness is established in the distribution sense for sufficiently large wavenumbers through analysis of the corresponding Lippmann--Schwinger integral equation. Furthermore, in the context of the inverse scattering problem, the uniqueness is attained in recovering the microlocal strengths of both the covariance and relation operators of the random potential. Notably, this is accomplished with only a single realization of the backscattering far-field patterns averaged over the high-frequency band.

Consider the inverse acoustic scattering of time-harmonic point sources by an unbounded locally rough interface with bounded obstacles embedded in the lower half-space. A novel version of reverse time migration is proposed to reconstruct both the locally rough interface and the embedded obstacle. By a modified Helmholtz-Kirchhoff identity associated with a planar interface, we obtain a modified imaging functional which has been shown that it always peaks on the local perturbation of the interface and on the embedded obstacle. Consider the inverse scattering of time-harmonic acoustic scattering by an infinite rough surface which is supposed to be a local perturbation of a plane. A novel version of reverse time migration (RTM) is proposed to reconstruct the shape and location of the rough surface. The method is based on a modified Helmholtz-Kirchhoff identity associated with a special rough surface, leading to a modified imaging functional which uses the near-field data generated by point sources as measurements. The modified imaging functional always reaches a peak on the boundary of the rough surface for sound-soft case and penetrable case, and hits a nadir on the boundary of the rough surface for sound-hard case. Furthermore, we also establish the RTM method associated with the far-field data generated by plane waves. As far as we know, this is the first result for the RTM method with the far-filed data. This paper addresses the direct and inverse source problems for the stochastic acoustic, biharmonic, electromagnetic, and elastic wave equations in a unified framework. The driven source is assumed to be a centered generalized microlocally isotropic Gaussian random field, whose covariance and relation operators are classical pseudo-differential operators. Given the random source, the direct problems are shown to be well-posed in the sense of distributions and the regularity of the solutions are given. For the inverse problems, we demonstrate by ergodicity that the principal symbols of the covariance and relation operators can be uniquely determined by a single realization of the far-field pattern averaged over the frequency band with probability one.

We consider the numerical algorithm for the two-dimensional time-harmonic elastic wave scattering by unbounded rough surfaces with Dirichlet boundary condition. A Nystr\"{o}m method is proposed for the scattering problem based on the integral equation method. Convergence of the Nystr\"{o}m method is established with convergence rate depending on the smoothness of the rough surfaces. In doing so, a crucial role is played by analyzing the singularities of the kernels of the relevant boundary integral operators. Numerical experiments are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method.

This paper is concerned with the inverse elastic scattering problem for a random potential in three dimensions. Interpreted as a distribution, the potential is assumed to be a microlocally isotropic Gaussian random field whose covariance operator is a classical pseudo-differential operator. Given the potential, the direct scattering problem is shown to be well-posed in the distribution sense by studying the equivalent Lippmann--Schwinger integral equation. For the inverse scattering problem, we demonstrate that the microlocal strength of the random potential can be uniquely determined with probability one by a single realization of the high frequency limit of the averaged compressional or shear backscattered far-field pattern of the scattered wave. The analysis employs the integral operator theory, the Born approximation in the high frequency regime, the microlocal analysis for the Fourier integral operators, and the ergodicity of the wave field.

Consider the scattering of time-harmonic point sources by an infinite locally rough interface with bounded obstacles embedded in the lower half-space. The model problem is first reduced to an equivalent integral equation formulation defined in a bounded domain, where the well-posedness is obtained in $L^p$ by the classical Fredholm theory. This paper is concerned with the inverse problem of time-harmonic acoustic scattering by an unbounded, locally rough interface which is assumed to be a local perturbation of a plane. The purpose of this paper is to recover the local perturbation of the interface from the near-field measurement given on a straight line segment with a finite distance above the interface and generated by point sources. Precisely, we propose a novel version of the linear sampling method to recover the location and shape of the local perturbation of the interface numerically. Our method is based on a modified near-field operator equation associated with a special rough surface, constructed by reformulating the forward scattering problem into an equivalent integral equation formulation in a bounded domain, leading to a fast imaging algorithm. For the inverse scattering problem, it is shown with probability one that the principal symbol of the covariance operator can be uniquely determined by the amplitude of the scattered waves averaged over the frequency band from a single realization of the random potential. The analysis employs the Born approximation in high frequency, asymptotics of the Green tensor for the elastic wave equation, and microlocal analysis for the Fourier integral operators.

For such a distributional source, we show that the direct problem has a unique solution by introducing an equivalent Lippmann--Schwinger integral equation. For the inverse problem, we demonstrate that, with probability one, the principle symbol of the covariance operator can be uniquely determined by the amplitude of the displacement averaged over the frequency band, generated by a single realization of the random source. The analysis employs the Born approximation, asymptotic expansions of the Green tensor, and microlocal analysis of the Fourier integral operators.

The source is assumed to be a microlocally isotropic generalized Gaussian random function such that its covariance operator is a classical pseudo-differential operator. Given such a distributional source, the direct problem is shown to have a unique solution by using an integral equation approach and the Sobolev embedding theorem. For the inverse problem, we demonstrate that the amplitude of the scattering field averaged over the frequency band, obtained from a single realization of the random source, determines uniquely the principle symbol of the covariance operator. The analysis employs asymptotic expansions of the Green functions and microlocal analysis of the Fourier integral operators associated with the Helmholtz and Navier equations.
