Abstract

Given a based link $(K,p)$, we define a "tilde"-version $\tilde{HMR}(K,p)$ of real monopole Floer homology and prove an unoriented skein exact triangle. We show the Euler characteristic of $\tilde{HMR}(K,p)$ is equal to Miyazawa's invariant $|deg(K)|$ arXiv:2312.02041 and examine some examples. Further, we construct a spectral sequence over $\mathbb{F}_2$ abutting to $\tilde{HMR}(K,p)$, whose $E_2$ page is the reduced Khovanov homology $Khr(\overline{K})$ of the mirror link $\overline{K}$., Comment: 27 pages, 14 figures

We define a "real" version of Kronheimer-Mrowka's monopole Floer homology for a 3-manifold equipped with an involution. As a special case, we obtain invariants for links via their double branched covers. 10. Short wavelength infrared avalanche photodetector using Sb-based strained layer superlattice

Abstract

We demonstrate a low noise short wavelength infrared (SWIR) Sb based type II superlattice (T2SL) avalanche photodiodes (APD). The SWIR GaSb/(AlAsSb/GaSb) APD structure was designed based on impact ionization engineering and grown by molecular beam epitaxy on GaSb substrate. At room temperature, the device exhibits a 50 % cut-off wavelength of 1.74 micron. The device revealed to have electron dominated avalanching mechanism with a gain value of 48 at room temperature. The electron and hole impact ionization coefficients were calculated and compared to give better prospect of the performance of the device. Low excess noise, as characterized by the carrier ionization ratio of ~ 0.07, has been achieved., Comment: 11 pages , 6 figures

31. Superwetting Ag/α-Fe2O3anchored mesh with enhanced photocatalytic and antibacterial activities for efficient water purification

Abstract

Superwetting materials have drawn unprecedented attention in the treatment of oily wastewater due to their preferable anti-fouling property and selective oil/water separation. However, it is still a challenge to fabricate multifunctional and environmentally friendly materials, which can be stably applied to purify the actual complicated wastewater. Here, a Ag/α-Fe2O3heterostructure anchored copper mesh was intentionally synthesized using a facile two-step hydrothermal method. The resultant mesh with superhydrophilicity and underwater superoleophobicity was capable of separating various oil/water mixtures with superior separation efficiency and high permeation flux driven by gravity. Benefiting from the joint effects of the smaller band gap of Ag/α-Fe2O3heterojunction, inherent antibacterial capacity of α-Fe2O3and Ag nanoparticles, favorable conductive substrate, as well as the hierarchical structure with superwettability, such mesh presented remarkably enhanced degradation capability toward organic dyes under visible light irradiation and antibacterial activity against both Escherichia coli(E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus(S. aureus) compared with the pure α-Fe2O3coated mesh. Impressively, the mesh exhibited bifunctional water purification performance, in which organic dyes were eliminated simultaneously from water during oil/water separation in one filtration process. More importantly, this mesh behaved exceptional chemical resistance, mechanical stability and long-term reusability. Therefore, this material with multifunctional integration may hold promising potential for steady water purification in practice.

Abstract

Purpose Retinoblastoma (RB) is a pediatric ocular malignancy due to biallelic inactivation of the RB1 gene. Genetic testing is critically important for treatment decisions for this disease. Targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) has been demonstrated to be an effective strategy for discovering all types of mutations in the RB1 gene. The aim of this study is the application of targeted NGS in a cohort of Chinese patients with retinoblastoma to identify germline mutations in the RB1 gene. Methods Blood samples were collected from 149 unrelated probands with retinoblastoma (62 bilaterally and 87 unilaterally) and their parent(s). Genomic DNA was analyzed with custom panel-based targeted NGS, and the panel was designed to include exons 1–27 of the RB1 gene with flanking intronic sequences. Single nucleotide variations (SNVs) and small insertions/deletions (InDels) identified were confirmed with Sanger sequencing. If the Sanger sequencing of a low-frequency variant (LFV) detected with targeted NGS was negative, PCR-based deep NGS was conducted for added confirmation. Copy number variations (CNVs) detected with targeted NGS were confirmed with multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA). Results Overall, 74 germline mutations were detected in 48.3% of the probands (72/149, 56 bilateral and 16 unilateral cases). The total detection rate in the bilateral cases was 90.3% (56/62). These mutations included 64 SNVs and InDels (25 nonsense, 20 splicing, ten frameshift, eight missense, and one synonymous variants) and ten CNVs. All CNVs were confirmed with MLPA. Twenty-four (32.4%, 24/74) variants detected were novel, including nine splicing, six frameshift, five missense, and four nonsense variants. Eight LFVs (10.8%, 8/74) were found with targeted NGS; six of which were identified with Sanger sequencing, and two were identified with PCR-based deep NGS (13.16% and 3.000% mutant rates, respectively). Conclusions This study expanded the spectrum of germline mutations in RB1 using targeted NGS technology, which is a cost-saving and efficient method for genetic sequencing of retinoblastoma and may improve the molecular diagnosis of retinoblastoma.
