6. Effects of tranquilization therapy in elderly patients suffering from chronic non-communicable diseases: A meta-analysis

Abstract

The current meta-analysis searched the literature connected to different tranquilizers used to treat elderly people and assessed it in terms of dose, types of outcomes and adverse effects, to determine a safe and acceptable tranquilizer and its optimal dose. A systematic literature review was undertaken for randomized controlled trials, case-control, retrospective and prospective studies on the use of tranquilizers in elderly patients, using PubMed, Ebsco, SCOPUS and Web of Science. PICOS criteria were used to select studies, and pertinent event data was collected. This meta-analysis includes 16 randomized control trials spanning the years 2000 to 2022, using the data from 2224 patients. The trials that were included used various tranquilizers such as diazepam, alprazolam, temazepam and lorazepam, and indicated high treatment efficacy and low adverse effects. With a p-value of 0.853 for Egger’s test and 0.13 for Begg’s test, the current meta-analysis shows a minimal probability of publication bias. A recent meta-analysis supports the use of tranquilizers in older people to treat sleeplessness, epilepsy or anxiety, but only at modest doses, because large doses are harmful and produce numerous withdrawal symptoms.

Abstract

Highly efficient surface acoustic wave (SAW) transducers offer significant advantages for microfluidic atomization. Aiming at highly efficient atomization, we innovatively accomplish dual-surface simultaneous atomization by strategically positioning the liquid supply outside the IDT aperture edge. Initially, we optimize Lamb wave transducers and specifically investigate their performance based on the ratio of substrate thickness to acoustic wavelength. When this ratio h / λ is approximately 1.25, the electromechanical coupling coefficient of A0-mode Lamb waves can reach around 5.5% for 128° Y-X LiNbO3. We then study the mechanism of droplet atomization with the liquid supply positioned outside the IDT aperture edge. Experimental results demonstrate that optimized Lamb wave transducers exhibit clear dual-surface simultaneous atomization. These transducers provide equivalent amplitude acoustic wave vibrations on both surfaces, causing the liquid thin film to accumulate at the edges of the dual-surface and form a continuous mist. Abstract

In response to the unusually obvious booming problems of the rear-wheel drive vehicles during operation, the booming tests were conducted on the entire vehicle to confirm the booming states. At the same time, the bench sweep frequency tests were performed on the transmission systems of the rear-drive vehicles to study the influences of the transmission system resonance mode on the booming vibrations. Building the multi-body dynamics model of the vehicles with the help of ADAMS software, using the model after the benchmarking to perform modal analysis calculations to study the mechanism of booming vibrations, and then a plan was formulated to improve the booming vibrations, and to verify the booming vibrations on the actual vehicles. The results show that the improvement plan for the clutch stiffness and the vibrations of the drive shafts may effectively solve the booming problems of the rear-drive vehicles. Abstract

The aim of the present paper was to explore the effect of initial lesions on the course of femoral head necrosis. A fracture mechanics model of the femoral head was developed and validated using the computed tomography (CT) scan images of a healthy volunteer and material mechanics test results of fresh femur samples. The dynamic development of stresses and fractures of the femoral head with various initial lesions were simulated under various loads. The results showed that the initial lesion of the femoral head spreads faster and collapses deeper as the load increases. The location of the initial lesion has a significant effect on the collapse of the femoral head. The lesions in the anterior and lateral areas of the femoral head are more likely to accelerate the collapse of the femoral head than the lesions in other areas. This study is helpful in predicting the collapse risk and guiding the daily activities of patients with femoral head necrosis. 40. Two-photon polymerization-based 4D printing and its applications

Abstract

Two-photon polymerization (TPP) is a cutting-edge micro/nanoscale three-dimensional (3D) printing technology based on the principle of two-photon absorption. TPP surpasses the diffraction limit in achieving feature sizes and excels in fabricating intricate 3D micro/nanostructures with exceptional resolution. The concept of 4D entails the fabrication of structures utilizing smart materials capable of undergoing shape, property, or functional changes in response to external stimuli over time. The integration of TPP and 4D printing introduces the possibility of producing responsive structures with micro/nanoscale accuracy, thereby enhancing the capabilities and potential applications of both technologies. This paper comprehensively reviews TPP-based 4D printing technology and its diverse applications. First, the working principles of TPP and its recent advancements are introduced. Second, the optional 4D printing materials suitable for fabrication with TPP are discussed. Finally, this review paper highlights several noteworthy applications of TPP-based 4D printing, including domains such as biomedical microrobots, bioinspired microactuators, autonomous mobile microrobots, transformable devices and robots, as well as anti-counterfeiting microdevices. In conclusion, this paper provides valuable insights into the current status and future prospects of TPP-based 4D printing technology, thereby serving as a guide for researchers and practitioners.
