Abstract

Optical pumping of molecules provides unique opportunities for the control of chemical reactions at a wide range of rotational energies. Chemical reactivity for the hydrogen abstraction reaction SiO$^+$ + H$_2$ $\rightarrow$ SiOH$^+$ + H is investigated in an ion trap. The SiO$^+$ cation is prepared with a narrow rotational state distribution, including super-rotor states with rotational quantum number $\it{(j)}$ as high as 170 using a broad-band optical pumping method. The super-rotor states of SiO$^+$ are shown to substantially enhance the reaction rate, a trend reproduced by complementary theoretical studies. The mechanism for the rotational enhancement of the reactivity is revealed to be a strong coupling of the SiO$^+$ rotational mode with the reaction coordinate at the transition state on the dominant dynamical pathway. This work reports for the first time a chemical reaction with extreme rotational excitation of a reactant and its kinetic characterization.

7. Isomer-specific kinetics of the C+ + H2O reaction at the temperature of interstellar clouds

Abstract

The reaction C+ + H2O → HCO+/HOC+ + H is one of the most important astrophysical sources of HOC+ ions, considered a marker for interstellar molecular clouds exposed to intense ultraviolet or x-ray radiation. Despite much study, there is no consensus on rate constants for formation of the formyl ion isomers in this reaction. This is largely due to difficulties in laboratory study of ion-molecule reactions under relevant conditions. Here, we use a novel experimental platform combining a cryogenic buffer-gas beam with an integrated, laser-cooled ion trap and high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometer to probe this reaction at the temperature of cold interstellar clouds. We report a reaction rate constant of k = 7.7(6) × 10-9 cm3 s-1 and a branching ratio of formation η = HOC+/HCO+ = 2.1(4). Theoretical calculations suggest that this branching ratio is due to the predominant formation of HOC+ followed by isomerization of products with internal energy over the isomerization barrier.

13. Optical Control of Reactions between Water and Laser-Cooled Be+ Ions

Abstract

We investigate reactions between laser-cooled Be+ ions and room-temperature water molecules using an integrated ion trap and high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometer. This system allows simultaneous measurement of individual reaction rates that are resolved by reaction product. The rate coefficient of the Be+(2S1/2) + H2O → BeOH+ + H reaction is measured for the first time and is found to be approximately two times smaller than predicted by an ion-dipole capture model. Zero-point-corrected quasi-classical trajectory calculations on a highly accurate potential energy surface for the ground electronic state reveal that the reaction is capture-dominated, but a submerged barrier in the product channel lowers the reactivity. Furthermore, laser excitation of the ions from the 2S1/2 ground state to the 2P3/2 state opens new reaction channels, and we report the rate and branching ratio of the Be+(2P3/2) + H2O → BeOH+ + H and H2O+ + Be reactions. The excited-state reactions are nonadiabatic in nature.

16. The ortho-to-para ratio of interstellar NH$_2$: Quasi-classical trajectory calculations and new simulations

Abstract

Based on recent $Herschel$ results, the ortho-to-para ratio (OPR) of NH$_2$ has been measured towards the following high-mass star-forming regions: W31C (G10.6-0.4), W49N (G43.2-0.1), W51 (G49.5-0.4), and G34.3+0.1. The OPR at thermal equilibrium ranges from the statistical limit of three at high temperatures to infinity as the temperature tends toward zero, unlike the case of H$_{2}$. Depending on the position observed along the lines-of-sight, the OPR was found to lie either slightly below the high temperature limit of three (in the range $2.2-2.9$) or above this limit ($\sim3.5$, $\gtrsim 4.2$, and $\gtrsim 5.0$). In low temperature interstellar gas, where the H$_{2}$ is para-enriched, our nearly pure gas-phase astrochemical models with nuclear-spin chemistry can account for anomalously low observed NH$_2$-OPR values. We have tentatively explained OPR values larger than three by assuming that spin thermalization of NH$_2$ can proceed at least partially by H-atom exchange collisions with atomic hydrogen, thus increasing the OPR with decreasing temperature. In this paper, we present quasi-classical trajectory calculations of the H-exchange reaction NH$_2$ + H, which show the reaction to proceed without a barrier, confirming that the H-exchange will be efficient in the temperature range of interest. With the inclusion of this process, our models suggest both that OPR values below three arise in regions with temperatures $\gtrsim20-25$~K, depending on time, and values above three but lower than the thermal limit arise at still lower temperatures., Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures. The preoperative plasma lipid profile, including cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), of 1713 cervical cancer patients was compared with that of 10,397 healthy women. Then, we evaluated the impact of lipids on overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) in cervical cancer using univariate and multivariate Cox models.Results: While plasma TC, TG, and LDL were significantly higher, HDL was lower in patients with cervical cancer than in healthy women. TG was identified as an independent predictor for RFS and OS among patients with cervical cancer. Further stratified by age, patients with higher TGs showed a significantly worse RFS and OS than those with lower TGs among patients ≥ 50 years old but not among those < 50 years old.Conclusion: Cervical cancer was associated with a disordered lipid profile. Hypertriglyceridemia was an independent poor prognostic indicator for cervical cancer, especially for elderly patients. Strengthening lipid management may be beneficial for improving postoperative OS and RFS in patients with cervical cancer.Keywords: cervical cancer, lipid profile, triglyceride, cholesterol, prognosis

Abstract

Anionocages have been developed as a unique family of hydrogen bonded cages. However, strategies for constructing anionocages are mainly limited to that based on (PO43−)‐bisurea coordination, neither the ligands nor the anions lack the simplicity and diversity of the maturely developed analogues based on metal coordination (i.e. metallocage). We report herein a more simple strategy for anionocages design based on (RPO32−)‐monourea coordination, utilizing monourea rather than bisurea as the hydrogen binding donor, and RPO32− rather than PO43− as the acceptor. Two fluorescent, quadruple helicate anionocages were constructed by a bis‐monourea ligand, and dianions PhOPO32− (H1) or HOPO32− (H1A), respectively, which were capable of encapsulating a series of cation guests. As revealed by molecular modeling, H1 features remarkable guest‐adaptive cavity breathing without change of the quadruple helicate topology, which allowed the encapsulation of different sized guests in an "induced fit" manner. The primary end point was progression free survival (PFS). Secondary end points included overall survival (OS), objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), and toxicity. Toxicities were assessed according to Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events.Results: A total of 26 metastatic or recurrent cervical cancer patients were enrolled in this study. No complete response (CR) occurred, 4 patients (15.4%) showed partial response (PR), 11 patients (42.3%) had stable disease (SD), and 11 patients (42.3%) had progressive disease (PD), with DCR of 57.7% and ORR of 15.4%. Median progression-free survival (PFS) was 3.0 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0–6.3 months) and overall survival (OS) was 7.0 months (95% CI: 5.1–8.9 months) respectively. The most common adverse effects were hand-foot syndrome (50.0%), secondary hypertension (26.9%) and fatigue (26.9%). Three patients discontinued treatment due to grade 3 toxicities (one case for hand-foot syndrome, two cases for diarrhea) and 6 patients required dose reduction because of adverse effects.Conclusion: Apatinib seems active in heavily-pretreated metastatic or recurrent cervical cancer. Our objective was to determine the prognostic significance of removed and metastatic pelvic lymph node status and further perform risk stratification in patients with stage IIIC1p cervical cancer.Patients and Methods: Patients with stage IIIC1p cervical cancer and undergoing radical hysterectomy with lymphadenectomy in 2008– 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients’ stage was classified using the revised 2018 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging schema. Univariate and multivariable models were used to examine the association between removed and metastatic lymph node status and recurrence-free survival/overall survival.Results: During a median follow-up of 34 months, 73 relapses and 44 deaths were observed among 273 patients with stage IIIC1p cervical cancer. Parametrial involvement and metastatic lymph node ratio (mLNR) were identified as independent predictors for recurrence-free survival. Parametrial involvement and mLNR were independent predictors for overall survival. A stratification system was then created based on parametrial involvement and mLNR. A total of 123 (45.1%), 127 (46.5%) and 23 (8.4%) patients were classified into the low-risk, intermediate-risk, and high-risk groups, with as a 5-year recurrence-free survival of 81.7%, 51.1%, 38%, respectively. Compared to the low-risk group, the intermediate- and high-risk groups had a significantly greater risk of recurrence and death.Conclusion: The prognosis of stage IIIC1p patients varied significantly. A risk stratification system based on parametrial involvement and mLNR successfully separated patients into low, intermediate, and high-risk group.
