Simple Summary: Chimp Haven, the world's largest chimpanzee sanctuary, houses over 300 chimpanzees with a variety of health needs including obesity, cardiac disease, and wounding. The veterinary and behavioral staff work together to develop individualized plans for the physical and behavioral well-being of the chimpanzees in their care. We specifically focus on the interface between the veterinarian and the behavioral program director via two example cases to illustrate our methodology. These insights depict a comprehensive understanding of the operational landscape and the strategic considerations for delivering exceptional and individualized care to chimpanzees housed in group settings. Chimp Haven is a private, nonprofit organization that serves as the largest chimpanzee sanctuary in the world. The National Institutes of Health supports the federal sanctuary system, which is operated by Chimp Haven, to provide lifetime care for chimpanzees who have retired from biomedical research. Chimp Haven is home to over 300 chimpanzees, with a wide variety of individual health needs including infectious diseases. The chimpanzees live in large, mixed-sex social groups within corrals, multi-dimensional enclosures, and naturally forested habitats, which presents challenges for monitoring and balancing individual versus group needs. Primate veterinarians and animal behavior directors have an obligation to collaborate for the best possible health and welfare outcomes for the species in their care. This manuscript details how veterinarians and behavioral staff at Chimp Haven interface to enhance clinical management and improve chimpanzee welfare using two clinical cases to illustrate this relationship. This is accomplished through the development of individual care plans that include the utilization of welfare assessment metrics and positive reinforcement training programs collaboratively developed between the veterinarians and behaviorists to facilitate voluntary medical procedures without the need for social isolation. Specifically, welfare metrics such as monitoring chimpanzee wounding levels and severity, as well as targeted assessments, involve the input of both the veterinarians and behaviorists. Positive reinforcement training initiatives such as weight loss, heart health, and wound care also require the interface between the two disciplines. Despite the potential benefits of reporting a sexual assault to the police, few sexual assault victim-survivors choose to do so. Prior research on reasons for non-reporting has lacked American Indian/Alaska Native representation as well as a quantitative prioritization of non-reporting reasons. This study sought to fill those gaps by using quantitative data from 95 participants in an online, self-administered survey of victim-survivors of adult sexual assaults in Alaska. Descriptive, univariate results revealed great variation in the reasons for non-reporting. Further, which reasons were more commonly endorsed changed when measuring victim-survivor prioritization of reasons (primary, secondary, and tertiary) rather than simple endorsement. Lastly, there were few subgroup differences when conducting bivariate analyses using racial/ethnic identity and the act of reporting other adult sexual assaults in Alaska. The results of this study add to existing literature on non-reporting with an emphasis on changing how we measure the reasons behind non-reporting. The results also signal to criminal justice policy makers and practitioners that proactive, comprehensive efforts must be made to regain the faith and trust of current and potential victim-survivors so that they see the criminal justice system as a viable avenue for securing justice in ways that are meaningful to them. A recording of male and female zebra finches, Taeniopygia guttata, as they were subjected to varied levels of white noise was made to test for amplitude regulation of vocalizations. Both male and female zebra finches were found to increase amplitude levels of vocalization, regardless of whether these were learned, in response to increased noise levels. Results were compared to data on amplitude regulation in humans.

Introduction: Women with previous pregnancy-related cardiovascular risk indicators, including gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), have an increased risk of future cardiovascular disease (CVD). Although CVD screening and preventive care beginning in the early postpartum period are recommended, certain barriers limit access to such services. We plan to conduct a scoping review of the literature to explore and summarise evidence on the barriers and facilitators of postpartum CVD preventive services in women with a history of GDM and HDP., Methods and Analysis: This scoping review will be conducted in line with the Arksey and O'Malley's (2005) methodological framework and the Joanna Briggs Institute guidance for conducting a systematic scoping review and will follow the Evidence for Policy and Practice Information and the Coordinating Centre at the Institute of Education guidelines. The review results will be reported using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) checklist. We will search the following databases: Medline, Embase and CINAHL. We will conduct grey literature searches for registered dissertations and theses. Inclusion and exclusion criteria will be kept broad. Qualitative and quantitative studies published in English or French that investigated and reported percieved barriers or facilitators to postpartum CVD screening and preventive care among women with previous GDM and HDP will be included. Individual, interpersonal, organizational, and system level factors will be reported. Qualitative findings will be summarised narratively, and quantitative findings will be absorbed within the themes using the multisource synthesis method., Ethics and Dissemination: This review represents one objective of a larger project that was reviewed by the Ottawa Health Sciences Network Research Ethics Board (QI-184). We will disseminate knowledge emanating from this review through open-access publication, presentation/public forums on women's cardiovascular health, women's CVD prevention forums and social media.
