Linguistic similarities increase cooperative behavior between people, while linguistic differences can reduce cooperativeness, and even promote aversion towards outsiders. This may not only be true for sharing the same native language, but also for more subtle similarities such as using similar syntactic constructions. In our experiment, participants communicated with two interaction partners (which were in fact standardized chat bots), one of which syntactically aligned their language with the participants and one of which didn’t. Afterwards, participants decided with which of the two partners they would like to play a cooperation game that determined the financial bonus that they would receive for participation. Against our predictions, linguistically aligned communication partners were not preferred as cooperation partners over non-aligned communication partners. This suggests that formal linguistic similarity may be less relevant for the outcome of negotiations than previously expected, and has real-life implications for conflict resolution, especially in intercultural communication settings.

This paper presents the results of laboratory tests of water hammer phenomenon induced in two series-connected copper pipes with different diameters (a diameter ratio of 1:1.25) by a quick-closing valve installed at the end of the simple upstream tank–pipeline–valve system. Test results were compared with calculations made with the use of various friction loss models incorporated in a one-dimensional model based on a method of characteristics. The calculation takes into consideration quasi-steady and unsteady friction models as well as a special discretization procedure of the solution domain that ensures the elimination of numerical diffusion in the numerical scheme. The main attention was paid to determining the value of the pressure wave speed in the pipes, which has a significant influence on the compliance between the calculations and the experimental results of the pressure amplitudes and wave frequencies. Two methods of determining the wave speed were proposed and evaluated based on the measurements. The results presented in this article indicate that the use of the proposed procedure instead of the classic formulas for determining the pressure wave speed gives the desired correspondence between the frequencies of the measured and calculated waves. Calculation examples made with the use of different friction models showed that application of the developed procedure for discretization of the solution domain and the method used for determining the wave speed opened the possibility of reliable verification of these models, free of numerical errors and frequency discrepancies between the computational and measured wave. Morphological measurements and genetic analysis of Epitrimerus violarius Liro (Acariformes: Eriophyoidea) with illustrations of males, females, and immature stages are presented in this paper. This species was reported for the first time in Poland and was collected from the leaves of Viola uliginosa in Cracow. The findings of this research provide insights for reassignment from the genus Epitrimerus Nalepa to the genus Leipothrix Keifer, within the family Eriophyidae. Aside from the molecular analysis that confirms the association with the proposed genus, the reassignment is also supported by the absence of femoral seta (bv) on both pairs of legs, and the presence of bifurcate gnathosomal seta, which are unique for Leipothrix. This study aimed to identify the most useful white-fleshed apple samples to distinguish apple cultivars and a clone. Whole apples, apple slices, seeds, and leaves belonging to 'Free Redstar', clone 118, 'Ligolina', 'Pink Braeburn', and 'Pinokio' were imaged using a digital camera. The texture parameters were extracted from images in color channels L, a, b, R, G, B, X, Y, Z, U, V, and S. The classification models were built using traditional machine learning algorithms. Models developed using selected image seed textures allowed the classification of apple cultivars and a clone with the highest average accuracy of up to 97.4%. The apple seeds 'Free Redstar' were distinguished with the highest accuracy, equal to 100%. Machine learning models built based on the textures of apple skin allowed for the clone and cultivar classification with slightly lower correctness, reaching 94%. Meanwhile, the average accuracies for models involving selected flesh and leave textures reached 86.4% and 88.8%, respectively. All the most efficient models for classifying individual apple fruit parts and leaves were developed using Multilayer Perceptron. However, models combining selected image textures of apple skin, slices (flesh), seeds, and leaves produced the highest average accuracy of up to 99.6% in the case of Bayes Net. Thus, it was found that including features of different parts of apple fruit and apple leaves in one model can allow for the correct distinguishing of apples in terms of cultivar and clone.
