Etching of copper with acidic CuCl2 solution is a widely used chemical method in printed circuits production. During the process, the solution is enriched in Cu(I) ions, resulting in reduction and then loss of etching bath capacity. In order to ensure the required etching kinetics, the solution is regenerated by oxidation of Cu(I) to Cu(II). The industrially applied Cu(I) oxidants are, e.g.: Cl2, chlorates. Their application is expensive and associated with drawbacks related to health, safety and environmental hazards (e.g. Cl2 emission). In the result of long-standing cooperation between the IMN and MATUSEWICZ Budowa Maszyn, an innovative, original and environmentally friendly method of acidic solutions regeneration used during printed circuits etching was developed. A new-type reactor equipped with oxidation monitoring-control systems using oxygen or oxygen-enriched air was applied. The reactor construction enables to run the process with oxygen circulation in the reactor, ensures full oxygen utilisation in the regeneration process, achievement of the required performance and process rate, and eliminates expensive, hazardous and often toxic reagents. This is an innovative method, and since there are no analogous technologies currently known and used in Europe and worldwide, the presented method is technologically, economically and ecologically unrivalled.

Mutual solubility measurements were carried out for three multi-component systems of ammonium perrhenate (NH 4 ReO 4 ) and one of the ammonium salts (NH 4 NO 3 , NH 4 Cl or (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 ) dissolved in water. Experiments were carried out using the isothermal solution saturation method at 293.15K. The concentrations of the reagents in saturated solutions in each system were determined by analytical methods. On the basis of the results, the solubility isotherms were determined. The phase diagrams were prepared for each investigated system. The eutonic point and the solubility isotherms of both tested salts are marked on each phase diagram. The data provided were implemented to predict the composition of the solid phase in the purification process of crude ammonium perrhenate (CAP) by recrystallisation from solutions of ammonia salts. The paper investigated the possibility of extractive separation of palladium from platinum and rhodium with ionic liquid Cyphos IL 101. A technological solution obtained by dissolving waste materials was used as the test material. Based on the experiments performed, it was found that a 10% (v/v) solution of the Cyphos IL 101 ionic liquid in toluene allows the extraction of both Pd and Pt with an efficiency of 99% from the initial solution when extraction is carried out at the pH 0.5, v org :v aq phase ratio 1:1 and contact time of 15 min. Moreover, the research proved that it is possible to separate Pd from Pt at the stripping stage using a 0.1 mol/dm 3 thiourea solution while maintaining a high selectivity coefficient., (© 2024. The objective of this study was to assess the potential for recovering precious metals from technological solutions using an ion-exchange dynamic method. Precious metals like platinum, palladium, rhodium, and gold are essential materials in various industries such as: automotive, electronics, pharmaceuticals, and jewellery. Due to their limited occurrence in primary sources, there is a growing trend in the market to extract these metals from secondary sources. The research involved conducting sorption and elution tests under different parameters to investigate their impact on the process in dynamic conditions. Additionally, an attempt was made to calculate the operational and total capacity of the resins, which has not been done previously for industrial solutions. The results showed that using Puromet MTS9200, Puromet MTS9850, and Lewatit MonoPlus MP600 resins, the sorption process could be effectively carried out in dynamic conditions with a contact time of 5 min between the technological solution and the resin bed. For optimal elution, the contact time between the eluent solution and the bed should range between 10 and 30 min. To improve rhodium sorption efficiency, it was found that neutralizing the technological solution to a pH of approximately 7 and using Lewatit MonoPlus MP600 resin could be beneficial., (© 2024. This research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of new organic substances, including a novel ionic liquid based on polyhexamethylenebiguanidine, polyhexamethyleneguanidine, and safranin in the copper electrorefining process. Experiments were conducted on a small laboratory scale using industrial copper anodes. Single doses of new additives did not improve process indicators (current efficiency, average cell voltage, specific energy consumption) or the quality of copper cathode deposits. However, a combination of a new ionic liquid based on polyhexamethylenebiguanidine and thiourea resulted in a satisfactory current efficiency of 97%, an average cell voltage of 0.110 V, a low specific energy consumption index of approximately 100 kWh/t Cu , and smooth cathode surfaces. These results were superior to those obtained with industrial additives (bone glue and thiourea). The findings enhance our understanding of how these substances influence the electrorefining process and suggest the potential for more efficient and sustainable methods. Further research is recommended to validate these findings and explore their industrial applications.

The article describes the technology of molybdic acid recovery from spent petrochemical catalysts (HDS) developed and implemented in industrial activity. HDS catalysts contain molybdenum in the form of MoO 3 and are used for the hydrodesulfurization of petroleum products. After deactivation, due to the impurities content in the form of sulfur, carbon and heavy metals, they constitute hazardous waste and, at the same time, a valuable source of the Mo element, recognized as a critical raw material. The presented technology allows the recovery of molybdic acid with a yield of min. 81%, and the product contains min. 95% H 2 MoO 4 . The technology consisted of oxidizing roasting of the spent catalyst, then leaching molybdenum trioxide with aqueous NaOH to produce water-soluble sodium molybdate (Na 2 MoO 4 ), and finally precipitation of molybdenum using aqueous HCl, as molybdic acid (H 2 MoO 4 ). Industrial-scale testing proved that the technology could recover Mo from the catalyst and convert it into marketable molybdic acid. This proves that the technology can be effectively used to preserve molybdenum.

Rhenium is largely used as an additive to nickel- and cobalt-based superalloys. Their resistance to temperature and corrosion makes them suitable for the production of turbines in civil and military aviation, safety valves in drilling platforms, and tools working at temperatures exceeding 1000 °C. The purity of commercial rhenium salts is highly important. Potassium, which is a particularly undesirable element, can be removed by recrystallization. Therefore, it is crucial to possess detailed knowledge concerning process parameters including the dissolved solid concentration and the resulting saturation temperature. This can be achieved using simple densimetric methods. Due to the fact that data concerning the physicochemical properties of ammonium perrhenate (APR) NH 4 ReO 4 and potassium perrhenate (PPR) KReO 4 are imprecise or unavailable in the scientific literature, the goal of this study is to present experimental data including the solubility and density of water solutions of both salts. In the experiments, a densimeter with a vibrating cell was used to precisely determine the densities. Although the investigated solutions did not fit into the earlier proposed mathematical model, some crucial conclusions could still be made based on the results.

Platinum group metals (PGMs) are a group of six metals with high market value and key importance to many industrial sectors. Due to their low prevalence in the Earth's crust and high demand, these metals have been recognized as critical materials for many years. Along with economic development, the natural resources of the platinum group metals are gradually depleting, which is accompanied by the need to recover PGMs from secondary sources. The solutions resulting from the processing of such materials are characterized by high content of impurities and low content of precious metals. For this reason, in order to obtain pure metals, it is extremely important to choose an effective, selective method for the recovery and separation of the platinum group metals. This review focuses on the most important aspects of the characteristics of the PGMs, including their properties and occurrence, the processing of natural and secondary raw materials and the role of liquid-liquid extraction in the selective separation of metals from this group, not only on a laboratory scale but, above all, on an industrial scale. In addition, this study collects information on the most commonly used, commercially available extractants, based on current reports, taken from the scientific literature.

Rhenium is an element that exhibits a broad range of oxidation states. Synthesis paths of selected rhenium compounds in its seventh oxidation state, which are common precursors for organic reaction catalysts, were presented in this paper. Production technologies for copper perrhenate, aluminum perrhenate as well as the ammonia complex of cobalt perrhenate, are thoroughly described. An ion exchange method, based on Al or Cu metal ion sorption and subsequent elution by aqueous perrhenic acid solutions, was used to obtain perrhenates. The produced solutions were neutralized to afford the targeted aluminum perrhenate and copper perrhenate products in high purity. The developed technologies allow one to manage the wastes from the production of these perrhenates as most streams were recycled. Hexaamminecobalt(III) perrhenate was produced by a newly developed method enabling us to produce a high purity compound in a reaction of spent hexaamminecobalt(III) chloride solution with a perrhenic acid. All prepared compounds are the basis for precursor preparation in organic catalysis.

Technology used to produce high purity anhydrous rubidium perrhenate on an industrial scale from high purity perrhenic acid and rubidium nitrate by the ion-exchange method is described in this paper. This material is dedicated to catalyst preparation, therefore, strict purity requirements have to be fulfilled. These are satisfied by combining rubidium ion sorption on an ion exchange column and the subsequent elution of the high purity perrhenic acid solution, followed by crystallization, evaporation, purification, and drying. In the current study, rubidium and rhenium contents were found to be 22.5 wt.% and 55.4 wt.%, respectively, while contaminations were as follows: <2 ppm As, <2 ppm Bi, <5 ppm Ca, <5 ppm Cu, <3 ppm Fe, <10 ppm K, <3 ppm Mg, <5 ppm Mo, <2 ppm Na, <5 ppm Pb, and <3 ppm Zn.

This paper presents a method for the production of high-purity anhydrous nickel(II) perrhenate. The method comprises sorption of nickel(II) ions from aqueous nickel(II) nitrate solutions, using strongly acidic C160 cation exchange resin, and subsequent elution of sorbed nickel(II) ions using concentrated perrhenic acid solutions. After the neutralization of the resulting rhenium-nickel solutions, hydrated nickel(II) perrhenate is then separated and then dried at 160 °C to obtain the anhydrous form. The resulting compound is reduced in an atmosphere of dissociated ammonia in order to produce a Re-Ni alloy powder. This study provides information on the selected properties of the resulting Re-Ni powder. This powder was used as a starting material for the production of 77W-20Re-3Ni heavy alloys. Microstructure examination results and selected properties of the produced sintered heavy alloys were compared to sintered alloys produced using elemental W, Re, and Ni powders. This study showed that the application of anhydrous nickel(II) perrhenate in the production of 77W-20Re-3Ni results in better properties of the sintered alloys compared to those made from elemental powders.
