13. Comparison of LDH-Organic/Inorganic Compound Modified Materials as Adsorbents for Heavy Metal Adsorption: Characteristic Structure and Adsorption Mechanism.

Abstract

This study modified layered double hydroxide (LDH) with organic compounds in hydrochar made from rambutan peels (prepared by hydrothermal method) and polyoxometalate compounds (tipe Keggin K4[α-SiW12O40].nH2O compound and prepared by sol-gel method). The synthesis of modified material was conducted through the coprecipitation method. The material was then applied as an adsorbent for Fe2+ ions. The material's properties were analyzed using XRD (Xray diffraction), FT-IR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy), and BET surface area analysis. The physicochemical characteristics of the modified material, a combination of the pure LDH and hydrochar/polyoxometalate compounds, will influence the adsorption results of Fe2+ metal ions. Furthermore, its application as an adsorbent was analyzed through kinetic and isotherm parameters, which were found to follow the pseudo-first-order (PFO) and Freundlich models. The adsorption capacities for NiAl-LDH, NiAl-LDH/Hc (modified with Hc), and NiAl-LDH/POM (modified with POM) materials were 32.789 mg/g, 47.393 mg/g, and 90.091 mg/g, respectively. Abstract

One of the main needs of humans is water, one source of water pollutantion is from dyes. Adsorption is the most popular method in removing pollutants as it is proven to be efficient. One of the dyes harmful to living things is malachite green. In this study, malachite green dye was removed using a layered double hydroxide (LDH) Zn-Al/magnetic biochar composite. The XRD, FTIR, BET, and VSM analyses show that the LDH Zn-Al, magnetic biochar, and LDH Zn-Al/magnetic biochar composite were successfully produced. The surface area of the Zn-Al/magnetic biochar composite made up of LDH increased from 9.621 m²/g to 99.473 m²/g. The point of zero charge of LDH Zn-Al and magnetic biochar were at pH 6, whereas the composite of these two materials was at pH 7. For LDH Zn-Al, magnetic biochar, and composite LDH Zn-Al/magnetic biochar, pH 8 is the ideal value for adsorption of malachite green. PSO (pseudo-second order) kinetics is the best-fit model. LDH Zn-Al, magnetic biochar, and LDH Zn- Al/magnetic biochar composite had adsorption capacities of 14.472, 15.552, and 25.907 mg/g, respectively, at a temperature of 60°C. Regeneration showed the LDH Zn-Al/magnetic biochar composite had superior and more effective ability compared to LDH Zn-Al and magnetic biochar. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of layered double hydroxide (LDH) and intercalated polyoxometalate were presented.. The growth of polyoxometalate on Ni/Mg layered double hydroxide for degradation procion red (PR) was reported. The degradation parameters and organic dye removal efficiency of Zn/Mg-LDH and both composite LDHpolyoxometalate were determined by considering factors such as pH of dye solution, catalyst dosage, and time as variables of degradation. X-Ray, FTIR, and SEM spectroscopy confirmed the layered double hydroxide structure. XRD and FTIR analysis confirmed the single-phase of the as-made and polyoxometalate intercalated LDH. SEM images show the formation of aggregates of small various sizes. The catalytic activity of the material was evaluated in the degradation of PR as a model pollutant. The result showed that MgAl-SiW12O40 has a good degradation capacity for PR as compared to MgAl-PW12O40, ZnAl-SiW12O40, and ZnAl-PW12O40. The result shows that the LDH composite presents stability and has good photocatalytic activities toward the reduction of methylene blue. The materials utilized for the fifth regeneration are indicated by the FTIR results, which verified the LDH composite structure. The photodegradation process of procion red for immaculate ZnAl-LDH, MgAl-LDH, ZnAl-[PW12O40], ZnAl-[SiW12O40], MgAl-[PW12O40], MgAl-[SiW12O40] amounted to 68%, 70%, 56%, 79%, 74%, and 80%, respectively. The capacity of LDH-polyoxometalate composite material to successfully photodegrade, as measured by the percentage of degradation, revealed an increase in photodegradation catalysis and the ability of LDH to regenerate.
