Ticagrelor is also known to have pleiotropic effects of unknown mechanisms. Ticagrelor could influence the expression of molecules involved in resolution of inflammation. This study aimed to investigate if ticagrelor could change the expression of CYP4F2 and its encoded protein concentration and, additionally, to determine ticagrelor possible antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria.Methods: CYP4F2 expression was determined in HUVEC and HepG2 cell lines by qPCR. CYP4F2 protein concentration was determined by ELISA. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed using a disc diffusion method.Results: Ticagrelor was observed to reduce the expression of CYP4F2 in HUVEC and HepG2 cell lines. It also reduced CYP4F2 protein levels in HUVEC cells. Ticagrelor had no bactericidal activity against gram-negative third generation cephalosporin resistant E. coli.Conclusion: Ticagrelor reduced CYP4F2 protein concentration in HUVEC, and CYP4F2 expression in HUVEC and HepG2 cells, but had no effect on third-generation cephalosporin-resistant E. coli strains.Keywords: ticagrelor, HUVEC, HepG2, CYP4F2 gene, CYP4F2 protein, antimicrobial effect, ischemic heart disease

For all enrolled patient’s platelet aggregation (induction with high-sensitivity adenosine diphosphate, ADP HS) testing was performed using a MULTIPLATE® analyzer. Venous blood was also collected for genotyping.Results: Patients experiencing ticagrelor-related dyspnea had lower ADP HS value (ADP HS ≤ 19.5 U; OR = 2.254; P = 0.009), higher creatinine concentration (> 90 μmol/l; OR = 3.414; P = 0.019), and lower GFR value (< 60 mL/min/1.73 m2; OR = 2.211; P = 0.035). ABCB1 T allele was associated with ticagrelor-related dyspnea (OR = 2.550; P = 0.04).Conclusion: Ticagrelor-related dyspnea was found to be related to low platelet aggregation, increased plasma creatinine concentration, decreased GFR, and ABCB1 T allele. Carriers of the ABCB1 T allele had a higher plasma creatinine concentration that could be associated with an inhibitory effect of ticagrelor on P-glycoprotein function.Keywords: ticagrelor, ticagrelor pharmacogenomics, ticagrelor related dyspnea, ABCB1 gene polymorphisms, platelet aggregation

Abstract

Members of the I-Move+hospital working group - Portugal: B. Nunes, I. Kislaya, A.P. Rodrigues (National Health Institute Doutor Ricardo Jorge, Lisbon), V. Gomes, R. Côrte-Real (Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Central, Lisbon), J. Poças, M.J. Peres (Centro Hospitalar de Setúbal, Setúbal). In a multicentre European hospital study we measured influenza vaccine effectiveness (IVE) against A(H3N2) in 2016/17. Adjusted IVE was 17% (95% confidence interval (CI): 1 to 31) overall; 25% (95% CI: 2 to 43) among 65-79-year-olds and 13% (95% CI: -15 to 30) among those ≥ 80 years. As the A(H3N2) vaccine component has not changed for 2017/18, physicians and public health experts should be aware that IVE could be low where A(H3N2) viruses predominate. Abstract

In Europe, annual influenza vaccination is recommended to elderly. From 2011 to 2014 and in 2015-16, we conducted a multicentre test negative case control study in hospitals of 11 European countries to measure influenza vaccine effectiveness (IVE) against laboratory confirmed hospitalised influenza among people aged ≥65years. We pooled four seasons data to measure IVE by past exposures to influenza vaccination. We swabbed patients admitted for clinical conditions related to influenza with onset of severe acute respiratory infection ≤7days before admission. Cases were patients RT-PCR positive for influenza virus and controls those negative for any influenza virus. We documented seasonal vaccination status for the current season and the two previous seasons. We recruited 5295 patients over the four seasons, including 465A(H1N1)pdm09, 642A(H3N2), 278 B case-patients and 3910 controls. Among patients unvaccinated in both previous two seasons, current seasonal IVE (pooled across seasons) was 30% (95%CI: -35 to 64), 8% (95%CI: -94 to 56) and 33% (95%CI: -43 to 68) against influenza A(H1N1)pdm09, A(H3N2) and B respectively. Among patients vaccinated in both previous seasons, current seasonal IVE (pooled across seasons) was -1% (95%CI: -80 to 43), 37% (95%CI: 7-57) and 43% (95%CI: 1-68) against influenza A(H1N1)pdm09, A(H3N2) and B respectively. Our results suggest that, regardless of patients' recent vaccination history, current seasonal vaccine conferred some protection to vaccinated patients against hospitalisation with influenza A(H3N2) and B. Vaccination of patients already vaccinated in both the past two seasons did not seem to be effective against A(H1N1)pdm09. To better understand the effect of repeated vaccination, engaging in large cohort studies documenting exposures to vaccine and natural infection is needed. We conducted a multicentre test-negative case-control study in 27 hospitals of 11 European countries to measure 2015/16 influenza vaccine effectiveness (IVE) against hospitalised influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 and B among people aged ≥ 65 years. Patients swabbed within 7 days after onset of symptoms compatible with severe acute respiratory infection were included. Information on demographics, vaccination and underlying conditions was collected. Using logistic regression, we measured IVE adjusted for potential confounders. We included 355 influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 cases, 110 influenza B cases, and 1,274 controls. Adjusted IVE against influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 was 42% (95% confidence interval (CI): 22 to 57). It was 59% (95% CI: 23 to 78), 48% (95% CI: 5 to 71), 43% (95% CI: 8 to 65) and 39% (95% CI: 7 to 60) in patients with diabetes mellitus, cancer, lung and heart disease, respectively. Adjusted IVE against influenza B was 52% (95% CI: 24 to 70). It was 62% (95% CI: 5 to 85), 60% (95% CI: 18 to 80) and 36% (95% CI: -23 to 67) in patients with diabetes mellitus, lung and heart disease, respectively. 2015/16 IVE estimates against hospitalised influenza in elderly people was moderate against influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 and B, including among those with diabetes mellitus, cancer, lung or heart diseases. Abstract

Objective. To evaluate the in vivo effects of cadmium and zinc ions on mitotic activity and protein synthesis in mouse liver. Material and methods. White outbred mice were injected intraperitoneally with cadmium chloride solution (14 µmoles cadmium per 1 kg of body mass) and/or with zinc sulfate solution (48 µmoles zinc per 1 kg of body mass). Histological slides were examined by light microscopy. For each specimen, the number of mitotic cells was counted in 10 randomly selected reference areas. Protein synthesis was evaluated by incorporation of [14C]-labeled leucine into newly synthesized peptides and proteins. Results. We found that the mitotic index of mouse liver cells was increased for periods of 2–8 h after cadmium chloride injection; after 24 h the mitotic index significantly diminished. These data indicate a possible increase in liver cell regeneration during the initial 8 h following acute cadmium exposure. Zinc ions did not affect liver mitotic activity, and, interestingly, decreased the mitotic index in the liver of cadmium-treated mice to control levels. An examination of the kinetics of protein synthesis in mouse liver over a 24 h period after cadmium chloride injection revealed that incorporation diminished by 38% at 2 h, then increased 51% by 8 h and again decreased by 32% at 24 h as compared to control. Zinc ions increased protein synthesis in mouse liver 8 h after zinc sulfate injection. In assessing the effects of cadmium and zinc ions in vivo, it appeared that zinc ions tended to protect protein synthesis in response to cadmium ions but only at 2 h after cadmium intoxication. Conclusions. Zinc ions are capable of normalizing an increase in the mitotic index of liver cells at the early stage of cadmium poisoning (up to 8 h) and to protect the liver translation machinery against inhibition by cadmium.

Abstract

At the Morphometric Reference Center of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Heart Federation (WHF) for the Pathobiological Determinants of Atherosclerosis in Youth (PBDAY) Project, histomorphometric studies were carried out on aortic and coronary artery walls of 590 people ranging from 5 to 34 yr of age, who were of European, American, Asian and African origin (6 countries) and died of trauma. The aim was to evaluate the mean intimal and medial thickness of arterial tissues.Computerized operator-assisted morphometry with a semiautomatic image analyzer was carried out on 2,893 histological slides (prepared at the WHO Reference Center in Malmö, Sweden). Our data show that age-dependent trends for prevalence of fatty streaks and atherosclerotic plaques in arteries are different: prevalence of fatty streaks increases until a plateau is reached, while exponential growth characterizes atherosclerotic plaque prevalence. Age is statistically associated with an increase in mean intimal and medial thickness in all specimens.Mean intimal and medial thickness differs in arterial wall specimens of individuals from various geographic locations: persons from countries with high mortality rates from cardiovascular disease tend to have greater mean intimal thickness in youth. Men with hypertension and those who smoke have significantly greater combined means of intimal thickness than normotensives and non-smokers respectively. The also have significantly greater combined means of medial thickness than normotensive men. Histomorphometric data provide evidence of the development of atherosclerotic lesions at an early age and relate their progression to ethnic and lifestyle factors and to major coronary heart disease risk factors.

Abstract Background The extent of angiogenesis is an important prognostic factor for colorectal carcinoma, however, there are few studies concerning changes in angiogenesis with radiotherapy (RTX). Our aim was to investigate changes in tumor angiogenesis influenced by radiotherapy to assess the prognostic value of angiogenesis the microvessel density (MVD) in overall survival after radiotherapy. Methods Tumor specimens were taken from 101 patients resected for rectal cancer. The patients were divided into three groups according to the treatment they received before surgery (not treated, a short course, or long course of RTX). Tumor specimens were paraffin-embedded and immunohistochemistry was performed with primary antibody against CD-34 to count MVD. Results MVD was significantly lower in the group of patients treated with a long course of RTX (p 2) (1953.047; p = 0.002), if the histological grade is moderate/poor (127.407; p = 0.013), if the tumor is T3/T4 (111.618; p = 0.014), and if the patient is male (17.92; p = 0.034) adjusted by other variable in model. Conclusion Our results show that a long course of radiotherapy significantly decreased angiogenesis in rectal cancer tissue. MVD was found to be a favourable marker for tumor behaviour during RTX and a predictor of overall survival after long course of RTX. Further investigations are now needed to determine the changes in angiogenesis during a shorter course of RTX.

Abstract

Purpose: We developed a transthoracic echo simulator that can measure psychomotor skill in echo to assist in training as well as for certification of competence. The simulator displays cine loops on a computer in response to the user scanning a mannequin with a mock transducer. The skill metric is the deviation angle between the image acquired by the user and the anatomically correct plane for the specified view. We sought to determine whether the simulator-based test could distinguish levels of expertise. Methods: Attendees at an echo course or at the annual meeting of the Swedish Heart Association were invited to take a 15 min test on the simulator. On the test, the user scanned the mannequin and acquired 4 views: parasternal long axis (pLAX) in patient 1, apical 4 chamber (a4c) and aLAX in patient 2, and pLAX in patient 3. Scan time was limited to 15 min. Attendees were asked regarding current work status, position, and experience with echo assessed from duration in years and procedure volume in the past 12 months. Results: Of the 61 participants there were 22 sonographers, 2 nurses, and 37 doctors who were all in practice except 1 doctor who was a resident. The data of nurses was combined with that of sonographers because their procedure volume was nearer to that of sonographers (850 ± 599 tests/yr) than doctors (312 ± 393, p < 0.001). Doctors and non-doctors had similar duration of experience (9 ± 8 vs. 12 ± 11 yrs, p=NS). The test was not completed by 12 participants (18%) but unfamiliarity with the simulator may have contributed because the deviation angle for pLAX dropped between the first and third patients (23 ± 11 to 18 ± 10 degrees, p<0.020). The average deviation angle over the 4 views was slightly lower for sonographers than for doctors (26 ± 11 vs. 30 ± 14 degrees, p=NS). The deviation angle for pLAX (55 ± 37 degrees) was higher than for a4C (17 ± 22 degrees) or either pLAX view (p<0.00001). pLAX was the only view whose deviation angle correlated significantly with experience and only with procedure volume (r=-0.302, p=0.025). Conclusions: The results of this study demonstrate that the skill metric employed, angle of deviation between the plane of an acquired view and the plane of the anatomically correct image for that view, can distinguish the relative experience of sonographers and doctors in practice. Simulation-based testing provides objective and quantitative assessment of the psychomotor skill of image acquisition and may be of value in certification of trainees and in maintenance of certification examination of practicing sonographers and doctors.

Abstract

Objective:  We aimed to investigate the reproducibility of vena contracta (VC) in mitral regurgitation (MR) of different etiology between an inexperienced and an experienced echocardiographer. Background: MR is the second most common valvular heart disease in Europe that requires surgery.  Echocardiography is the principal modality of investigation when MR is suspected. In European and American guidelines VC is described as one of the most feasible echocardiographic measurements in the assessment of MR. There is a lack of publications regarding intra-observer variability and studies comparing inexperienced and experienced echocardiographers for the assessment of VC. Method/Material: VC of 55 recorded 2D echocardiograms with known MR of different degree and etiology were analyzed from parasternal long axis view, 4- and 3 chamber view. The mean value of the different plane measurements of each exam was used for statistical analysis. Analyses were made by an inexperienced (A) fellow echocardiographer (<100 studies) and a level 3 experienced (B) echocardiographer. Measurements of VC by the 2 echocardiographers were performed blinded to clinical data. Measurements were performed with at least 2 weeks apart, blinded to the first measurement. Results: Three exams were excluded (feasibility 95%) from statistical analysis because adequate color Doppler images from all tree planes was not available. The inter class correlation (ICC) between the first and second analysis was (r=0.75; 95% CI -1.1 to 1.7mm) for A and (r=0.94; 95% CI -0.76 to 0.84mm) for B. There was good ICC between the 2 echocardiographers (r=0.78; 95% CI -1.5 to 1.3mm). The intra observer variability was 11.1% for A and 6.1% for B. The inter observer variability was 11.7% (p>0.05 for all). Conclusion: Measurement of vena contracta in mitral regurgitation is a feasible semi-quantitative parameter. Good correlation and narrow limits of agreement between a novice and an experienced echocardiographer was demonstrated in our study.

Abstract

Background and Aims: Coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) is common after ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), leading to adverse clinical outcomes. However, its diagnosis remains difficult, and mechanisms elusive. This study explores the role of Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), a gut microbiota metabolite, as a potential biomarker for diagnosing CMD in STEMI patients., Methods: This prospective, observational study enrolled 210 STEMI patients with multivessel coronary artery disease who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). TMAO levels were measured at baseline, 3 months, and 12 months post-PCI, whilst coronary physiology was assessed at 3 months. The primary endpoint was the incidence of CMD at 3 months, with the secondary endpoint being major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) at 12 months. An additional 59 consecutive patients were enrolled for validation., Results: TMAO levels varied from baseline to 3 months, then stabilised. The areas under the ROC curve for baseline TMAO and TMAO at 3-month were 0.55 (95 % CI 0.46-0.64; p = 0.426), and 0.80 (95 % CI 0.73-0.87; p < 0.001), respectively. The optimal cut-off for TMAO at 3-month to diagnose CMD was 3.91, with similar sensitivity and specificity in the derivation and validation cohort. The incidence of MACCE was higher in patients with TMAO≥3.91 (41.4 % vs 10.7 %; p < 0.001). The addition of 3-month TMAO improved the diagnostic performance of traditional risk factors., Conclusion: TMAO is a robust biomarker for CMD and is significantly associated with the incidence of MACCE. Abstract

Background: Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is the most prevalent type of cardiovascular disease. The main cause of IHD is atherosclerosis, which is a multifactorial inflammatory disease of blood vessels. Studies show that bacteria might have a significant impact on the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and plaque rupture. This study aimed to evaluate the complexity of interactions between bacteria and the human body concerning metabolites and bacterial genes in patients with ischemic heart disease., Methods: Bacterial 16S rDNA and wcaF , papC , and sdhC genes were detected in whole blood using a real-time PCR methodology. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure the concentration of the LL-37 protein. An analysis of ARA in blood plasma was performed., Results: Bacterial 16S rDNA was detected in 31% of the study patients, and the genes wcaF and sdhC in 20%. Enterobacterales genes were detected more frequently in patients younger than 65 years than in patients aged 65 years and older ( p = 0.018) and in patients with type 2 diabetes ( p = 0.048). Concentrations of the human antimicrobial peptide LL-37 and 12S-HETE concentrations were determined to be higher if patients had 16S rDNA and biofilm-specific genes., Conclusions: The results of this study enhance the understanding that Enterobacterales bacteria may participate in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and IHD. Bacterial DNA and host metabolites in higher concentrations appear to be detected.

Abstract

Late-life depression (LLD) is a multifactorial disorder, with susceptibility and vulnerability potentially influenced by gene-environment interaction. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the 5-HTTLPR polymorphism is associated with LLD. The sample of 353 participants aged 65 years and over was randomly selected from the list of Kaunas city inhabitants by Residents' Register Service of Lithuania. Depressive symptoms were ascertained using the EURO-D scale. The List of Threatening Events Questionnaire was used to identify stressful life events that happened over the last 6 months and during lifetime. A 5-HTTLPR and lifetime stressful events interaction was indicated by higher odds of depression in those with s/s genotype who experienced high stress compared to l/l carriers with low or medium stress, while 5-HTTLPR and current stressful events interaction analysis revealed that carriers of either one or two copies of the s allele had increased odds of depressive symptoms associated with stress compared to participants with the l/l genotype not exposed to stressful situations. Although no significant direct association was found between the 5-HTTLPR short allele and depression, our findings demonstrated that lifetime or current stressful life events and their modification by 5-HTTLPR genotype are risk factors for late-life depression., (© 2023. Abstract

Aim: To examine the relationship between patient-provider communication, psychosocial patient self-efficacy, resources and support for self-management and socio-demographics within individualized care of older adults with diabetes., Design: A quantitative study with a cross-sectional survey design., Methods: Data were collected from September 2019 to January 2021 using: Individualized Care Scale, The Communication Assessment Tool, The Diabetes Empowerment Scale and The Resources and Support for Self-Management Scale. Patients with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes mellitus that were 65 years old and over (N = 145) participated in the study., Results: The most positive aspects of patient-provider communication were respect and creating a comfortable environment for the patient. A significant relationship was observed between patients' perceptions and support of individualized care and diabetes-related measures. Effective communication was the main factor associated with support for individualizing care, and together with education level, empowerment and access to resources, explained 23% of the variance., (© 2022 The Authors. Abstract

Background: The NR3C2 gene encodes the mineralocorticoid receptor, which is present on cardiomyocytes. Prior studies reported an association between the presence of NR3C2 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and an increased cortisol production during a stress response such as acute myocardial infarction (AMI), which may lead to adverse cardiac remodeling. Objective: To study the impact of the NR3C2 rs2070950, rs4635799 and rs5522 gene polymorphisms on left ventricular (LV) remodeling, rhythm and conduction disorders in AMI patients. Methods: A cohort of 301 AMI patients who underwent revascularization was included. SNPs of the NR3C2 gene (rs2070950, rs4635799 and rs5522) were evaluated. A total of 127 AMI patients underwent transthoracic echocardiography follow-up after 72 h and 6 months. Results: The rs2070950 GG genotype and rs4635799 TT genotype were most common in patients who had LV end-diastolic volume increase < 20% and the same or increased LV ejection fraction, indicating a possible protective effect of these SNPs. The rs5522 TT genotype was associated with a higher frequency of arrhythmias, while the presence of at least one rs5522 C allele was associated with a lower risk of arrhythmias. Conclusion: SNPs of the NR3C2 gene appear to correlate with better ventricular remodeling and a reduced rate of arrhythmias post-AMI, possibly by limiting the deleterious effects of cortisol on cardiomyocytes.

46. Determining the International Spread of B.1.1.523 SARS-CoV-2 Lineage with a Set of Mutations Highly Associated with Reduced Immune Neutralization.

Abstract

Here, we report the emergence of the variant lineage B.1.1.523 that contains a set of mutations including 156&#95;158del, E484K and S494P in the spike protein. E484K and S494P are known to significantly reduce SARS-CoV-2 neutralization by convalescent and vaccinated sera and are considered as mutations of concern. Lineage B.1.1.523 presumably originated in the Russian Federation and spread across European countries with the peak of transmission in April-May 2021. The B.1.1.523 lineage has now been reported from 31 countries. In this article, we analyze the possible origin of this mutation subset and its immune response using in silico methods.

47. SARS-CoV-2: Two Years in the Pandemic: What Have We Observed from Genome Sequencing Results in Lithuania?

Abstract

SARS-CoV-2 has spread vastly throughout the word. In this study, we focus on the patterns of spread in Lithuania. By analysing the genetically sequenced data of different lineages and their first appearances, we were able to compare the dynamics of spreading of the lineages and recognize the main possible cause. The impact of emigration patterns and international travel on the variety of lineages was also assessed. Results showed different patterns of spread, and while a vast variety of different lineages were brought in by international travel, many of the viral outbreaks were caused by local lineages. It can be concluded that international travel had the most impact on the spread of SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract

As there is some evidence that the risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD) is partially attributable to environmental exposure to some metals and metalloids, we examined an association between AD and arsenic, chromium, and selenium in 53 AD patients and 217 controls. Urinary arsenic, blood chromium, and selenium were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Logistic regression models calculating odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used to estimate AD association with arsenic, chromium, and selenium. In AD patients, urinary arsenic and blood chromium were significantly higher, while blood selenium was significantly lower compared to controls. Increased blood selenium was related to a significant decrease in the odds of AD after adjustment for risk factors. Blood selenium per 1 kg × 10 -9 /m 3 × 10 -4 increment was associated with 1.4 times lower risk of AD (OR = 0.71; 95% CI 0.58-0.87). A significant increase in the odds of AD associated with increased blood chromium was also seen in the adjusted model: the OR per 1 kg × 10 -9 /m 3 × 10 -3 chromium increment was 2.39 (95% CI 1.32-4.31). The association of urinary arsenic with the risk of AD was not significant. The data obtained provide evidence that selenium reduces the risk of Alzheimer's disease, while chromium increases it.

Abstract

Aims: The goals of this study were to develop a new technique that could pave the way for a quicker determination of CYP4F2 rs3093135 and CYP2C19 rs4244285 variants directly from a patient's blood and to attempt to apply this technique in clinical practice. Patients & methods: The study included 144 consecutive patients admitted with ST elevation myocardial infarction. A blood-direct PCR and real-time PCR were used to detect variants of interest. Results & conclusion: Patients with bleeding events had the CYP2C19 GG (*1*1) variant more frequently than patients without bleeding events. The CYP4F2 TT variant was more frequently detected in patients with bleeding events 3 months after hospitalization.

Background: Evidence shows that microRNAs (miRNAs) could play a key role in the homeostasis and development of major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder. The present study is aimed at investigating the changes in circulating miRNA expression profiles in a plasma of patients suffering from major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD) to distinguish and evaluate these molecules as biomarkers for mood disorders., Methods: A study enrolled a total of 184 subjects: 74 controls, 84 MDD patients, and 26 BD patients. Small RNA sequencing revealed 11 deregulated circulating miRNAs in MDD and BD plasma, of which expression of 5, hsa-miR-139-3p, miRNAs hsa-let-7e-5p, hsa-let-7f-5p, hsa-miR-125a-5p, and hsa-miR-483-5p, were further verified using qPCR. miRNA gene expression data was evaluated alongside the data from clinical assessment questionnaires., Results: hsa-let-7e-5p and hsa-miR-125a-5p were both confirmed upregulated: 0.75-fold and 0.25-fold, respectively, in the MDD group as well as 1.36-fold and 0.68-fold in the BD group. Receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis showed mediocre diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of both hsa-let-7e-5p and hsa-miR-125a-5p with approximate area under the curve (AOC) of 0.66. ROC analysis of combined miRNA and clinical assessment data showed that hsa-let-7e-5p and hsa-miR-125a-5p testing could improve MDD and BD diagnostic accuracy by approximately 10%., Conclusions: Circulating hsa-let-7e-5 and hsa-miR-125a-5p could serve as additional peripheral biomarkers for mood disorders; however, suicidal ideation remains the major diagnostic factor for MDD and BD., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2022 Dovydas Gecys et al.)
