Abstract Sub-mesoscale and mesoscale (i.e., 1–10 km and 10–200 km, respectively) ocean processes are highly relevant for the understanding of global circulation, mixing of water masses and energy exchange between ocean layers. However, the processes happening at these scales are hard to be characterized using direct measurements of temperature and salinity. Direct measurements are obtained from vertical probes and/or autonomous vehicles, which, despite their high vertical resolution, are sparsely located in space and therefore unable to capture spatial details at these scales. Seismic oceanography (SO) data have been successfully used to imaging and characterize the ocean at these spatial scales. These data represent indirect measurements of the ocean temperature and salinity along kilometric transects with high horizontal resolution (i.e., a near-synaptic view of the system under investigation), but lower vertical resolution when compared with direct observations. Despite its complex oceanographic setting, the Madeira Abyssal Plain is still largely uncharacterized due to the lack of direct observations. We show for the first time a comprehensive processing, modelling and interpretation of three 2-D seismic oceanography sections from this region. The data show coherent seismic reflection in space, depth and time and shed light into this oceanographic setting with an unprecedent horizontal resolution. The SO modelling and interpretation are combined with existing direct measurements and a quantitative method to correlate thermohaline staircases interpreted from conductivity-temperature-depth casts and seismic reflections is proposed. The results show the relatively stable presence of thermohaline staircases in simultaneously time and space between 1200 and 2000 m of water depth and their spatial variability and contribute to the generalization of SO in physical oceanography.

Abstract Predicting the subsurface spatial distribution of geological facies from fullstack geophysical data is a main step in the geo-modeling workflow for energy exploration and environmental tasks and requires solving an inverse problem. Generative adversarial networks (GANs) have shown great potential for geologically accurate probabilistic inverse modeling, but existing methods require multiple sequential steps and do not account for the spatial uncertainty of facies-dependent continuous properties, linking the facies to the observed geophysical data. This can lead to biased predictions of facies distributions and inaccurate quantification of the associated uncertainty. To overcome these limitations, we propose a GAN able to learn the physics-based mapping between facies and seismic domains, while accounting for the spatial uncertainty of such facies-dependent properties. During its adversarial training, the network reads the observed geophysical data, providing solutions to the inverse problems directly in a single step. The method is demonstrated on 2-D examples, using both synthetic and real data from the Norne field (Norwegian North Sea). The results show that the trained GAN can model facies patterns matching the spatial continuity patterns observed in the training images, fitting the observed geophysical data, and with a variability proportional to the spatial uncertainty of the facies-dependent properties.

Com o avançar da tecnologia, passou a fazer parte da graduação médica atual o aprendizado em teleconsultas. Esta pesquisa apresenta as representações de um grupo de alunos de um curso de Medicina localizado na capital do estado de São Paulo sobre suas experiências com a realização de teleconsultas síncronas supervisionadas durante estágio realizado em um ambulatório-escola, durante o segundo semestre de 2021. Trata-se de pesquisa qualitativa que utilizou o software IRaMuTeQ® e “Análise do Conteúdo”. Esses educandos pontuam entraves para a utilização das teleconsultas, destacando preocupações com a humanização, segurança da pessoa atendida e qualidade da consulta, mas visualizam potencialidades tais como a facilidade de acesso e a comodidade. Reconhecem a importância da prática durante sua Graduação em um mundo cada vez mais tecnológico, mas trazem inquietações relacionadas à perda do exame físico e à mercantilização da Medicina.

This study investigates the crucial role of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology in mitigating CO2 emissions from Poland’s power systems, which is essential not only for meeting climate targets but also for maintaining energy security in the country. Acknowledging natural gas as a transitional fuel, the focus is on evaluating the decarbonization potential of the natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) power plant. The NGCC with and without an amine-based carbon capture unit was modeled using IPSEpro (SimTech, version 7.0). It was found that the annual CO2 emission from 435.68 MWe (net) NGCC can be reduced from 1,365,501 tons (357.8 kgCO2/MWh) to 136,556 tons (42.9 kgCO2/MWh). On the other hand, the CCS reduced the net electric power of the NGCC from 435.68 MW to 363.47 MW and the net energy efficiency from 55.60% to 46.39%. Nonetheless, these results demonstrate the potential of using the amine-based CO2 capture technology in NGCC systems. This is especially important in the context of the decarbonization of the Polish power system.

During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, governments and public health authorities collected massive amounts of data on daily confirmed positive cases and incidence rates. These data sets provide relevant information to develop a scientific understanding of the pandemic's spatiotemporal dynamics. At the same time, there is a lack of comprehensive approaches to describe and classify patterns underlying the dynamics of COVID-19 incidence across regions over time. This seriously constrains the potential benefits for public health authorities to understand spatiotemporal patterns of disease incidence that would allow for better risk communication strategies and improved assessment of mitigation policies efficacy. Within this context, we propose an exploratory statistical tool that combines functional data analysis with unsupervised learning algorithms to extract meaningful information about the main spatiotemporal patterns underlying COVID-19 incidence on mainland Portugal. We focus on the timeframe spanning from August 2020 to March 2022, considering data at the municipality level. First, we describe the temporal evolution of confirmed daily COVID-19 cases by municipality as a function of time, and outline the main temporal patterns of variability using a functional principal component analysis. Then, municipalities are classified according to their spatiotemporal similarities through hierarchical clustering adapted to spatially correlated functional data. Our findings reveal disparities in disease dynamics between northern and coastal municipalities versus those in the southern and hinterland. We also distinguish effects occurring during the 2020-2021 period from those in the 2021-2022 autumn-winter seasons. The results provide proof-of-concept that the proposed approach can be used to detect the main spatiotemporal patterns of disease incidence. The novel approach expands and enhances existing exploratory tools for spatiotemporal analysis of public health data.

To evaluate aerobic capacity, strength and other physiological, nutritional, and psychological variables which may influence the performance of transgender women (TW) athletes and compare them to cisgender women (CW) and cisgender men (CM) athletes, as well as changes in TW performance over the course of a year. Prospective cohort study including three groups: TW, CW and CM volleyball athletes. Subjects will be comprehensively assessed at two different moments: baseline and after 6–12 months of adequate hormonal therapy. Evaluation will comprise clinical, medical, nutritional and psychological interviews, incremental treadmill cardiopulmonary exercise testing, hand grip strength test, vertical jump test, analysis of sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index), hormonal profile, echocardiogram, analysis of resting energy expenditure, assessment of bone mass and body composition through dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scans, and untargeted metabolomic analysis. CW and CM matched by age, body mass index and level of physical activity will undergo a similar evaluation. The assessment of the strength, aerobic capacity, haematological, nutritional and psychological status of TW using gold-standard tests will contribute to understanding the impact of oestrogen therapy on the exercise performance of these athletes and how they compare with CW and CM.

Abstract Background Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) are an unsupervised learning clustering and dimensionality reduction algorithm capable of mapping an initial complex high-dimensional data set into a low-dimensional domain, such as a two-dimensional grid of neurons. In the reduced space, the original complex patterns and their interactions can be better visualized, interpreted and understood. Methods We use SOM to simultaneously couple the spatial and temporal domains of the COVID-19 evolution in the 278 municipalities of mainland Portugal during the first year of the pandemic. Temporal 14-days cumulative incidence time series along with socio-economic and demographic indicators per municipality were analyzed with SOM to identify regions of the country with similar behavior and infer the possible common origins of the incidence evolution. Results The results show how neighbor municipalities tend to share a similar behavior of the disease, revealing the strong spatiotemporal relationship of the COVID-19 spreading beyond the administrative borders of each municipality. Additionally, we demonstrate how local socio-economic and demographic characteristics evolved as determinants of COVID-19 transmission, during the 1st wave school density per municipality was more relevant, where during 2nd wave jobs in the secondary sector and the deprivation score were more relevant. Conclusions The results show that SOM can be an effective tool to analysing the spatiotemporal behavior of COVID-19 and synthetize the history of the disease in mainland Portugal during the period in analysis. While SOM have been applied to diverse scientific fields, the application of SOM to study the spatiotemporal evolution of COVID-19 is still limited. This work illustrates how SOM can be used to describe the spatiotemporal behavior of epidemic events. While the example shown herein uses 14-days cumulative incidence curves, the same analysis can be performed using other relevant data such as mortality data, vaccination rates or even infection rates of other disease of infectious nature.

IntroductionThe seafloor is an important interface between the lithosphere and the hydrosphere, where processes related to circulation and energy exchange happen along with various marine processes widely developed in the water column near the seafloor. These processes are still not yet completely understood as there are constraints of submarine detection technology and the interdisciplinary nature of these complex environments. Seismic reflection data have been a preferable tool to study and image these processes due to their characteristics in terms of spatial resolution. In seismic reflection data, submarine sand waves show hair-like reflection configurations with low continuity and wearing-hair style, appearing with an angle with the seafloor. Investigation of the relationship between the characteristics of submarine sand waves induced hair-like reflection configuration and hydrodynamics is crucial for understanding hair-like reflection configuration generation and spatiotemporal evolution. MethodsThis study combines fluid dynamics numerical simulation and seismic oceanography to discuss the seismic response characteristics and formation mechanisms of the hair-like reflection configuration. First, we create a seawater time-variant fluid-dynamical model followed by the numerical simulation of seismic oceanography data. This procedure results in seismic oceanography numerical simulation sections with hair-like reflection configurations for different constant flow conditions forced on the boundary. Optimal matching method is then applied to interpret field seismic reflection sections given the results obtained with the numerical experiments. Results and discussionAs consequence, the fluid dynamic explanation for the formation mechanism of the hair-like reflection configuration due to differences in seawater thermohaline is proposed. The study provides additional comprehension and further insights into the dynamic process of submarine sand waves induced hair-like reflection configuration using the seismic oceanography method.

Vaccine hesitancy tends to exhibit geographical patterns and is often associated with social deprivation and migrant status. We aimed to estimate COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy in a high-vaccination-acceptance country, Portugal, and determine its association with sociodemographic risk factors. We used the Registry of National Health System Users to determine the eligible population and the Vaccination Registry to determine individuals without COVID-19 vaccine doses. Individuals older than five with no COVID-19 vaccine dose administered by 31 March 2022 were considered hesitant. We calculated hesitancy rates by municipality, gender, and age group for all municipalities in mainland Portugal. We used the spatial statistical scan method to identify spatial clusters and the Besag, Yorke, and Mollié (BYM) model to estimate the effect of age, gender, social deprivation, and migrant proportion across all mainland municipalities. The eligible population was 9,852,283, with 1,212,565 (12%) COVID-19 vaccine-hesitant individuals. We found high-hesitancy spatial clusters in the Lisbon metropolitan area and the country’s southwest. Our model showed that municipalities with higher proportions of migrants are associated with an increased relative risk (RR) of vaccine hesitancy (RR = 8.0; CI 95% 4.6; 14.0). Social deprivation and gender were not associated with vaccine hesitancy rates. We found COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy has a heterogeneous distribution across Portugal and has a strong association with the proportion of migrants per municipality.

Summary: Background: By October 30, 2022, 76,871 cases of mpox were reported worldwide, with 20,614 cases in Latin America. This study reports characteristics of a case series of suspected and confirmed mpox cases at a referral infectious diseases center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Methods: This was a single-center, prospective, observational cohort study that enrolled all patients with suspected mpox between June 12 and August 19, 2022. Mpox was confirmed by a PCR test. We compared characteristics of confirmed and non-confirmed cases, and among confirmed cases according to HIV status using distribution tests. Kernel estimation was used for exploratory spatial analysis. Findings: Of 342 individuals with suspected mpox, 208 (60.8%) were confirmed cases. ABSTRACT Purpose: To describe the use of endocavitary ultrasound probe as an auxiliary tool when performing partial nephrectomy in cases of endophytic renal tumors, to standardize the method, and to report the preliminary results achieved with this technique. Methods: Fifteen patients diagnosed with completely endophytic underwent partial nephrectomy with the use of an endocavitary ultrasound probe. This article describes the technique involved in partial nephrectomy and details the preparation of the endocavitary ultrasound probe to ensure its safe use. Results: All the patients had a RENAL score between 8 and 11. The median time of warm ischemia was 26 and 18 minutes for laparoscopic or robot-assisted surgery, respectively. The median duration of surgery was 150 minutes, and the median console time was 145 minutes for the laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgery groups, respectively. The median estimate of blood loss was 200 mL. Only three patients in the laparoscopic group had focal positive surgical margins. There were no cases of infection at the site of probe entry. Conclusions: Intraoperative use of an endocavitary ultrasound probe for partial nephrectomy is possible and a safe alternative to the excision of endophytic tumors when neither robotic probes nor laparoscopic probes are available.

Abstract The rapid spread of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic has simultaneous time and space dynamics. This behaviour results from a complex combination of factors, including social ones, which lead to significant differences in the evolution of the spatiotemporal pattern between and within countries. Usually, spatial smoothing techniques are used to map health outcomes, and rarely uncertainty of the spatial predictions are assessed. As an alternative, we propose to apply direct block sequential simulation to model the spatial distribution of the COVID-19 infection risk in mainland Portugal. Given the daily number of infection data provided by the Portuguese Directorate-General for Health, the daily updates of infection rates are calculated by municipality and used as experimental data in the geostatistical simulation. The model considers the uncertainty/error associated with the size of each municipality’s population. The calculation of daily updates of the infection risk maps results from the median model of one ensemble of 100 geostatistical realizations of daily updates of the infection risk. The ensemble of geostatistical realizations is also used to calculate the associated spatial uncertainty of the spatial prediction using the interquartile distance. The risk maps are updated daily and show the regions with greater risks of infection and the critical dynamics related to its development over time.

A two-dimensional multichannel seismic reflection profile acquired in the Madeira Abyssal Plain during June 2016 was used in a modeling workflow comprising seismic oceanography processing, geostatistical inversion and Bayesian classification to predict the probability of occurrence of distinct water masses. The seismic section was processed to image in detail the fine scale structure of the water column using seismic oceanography. The processing sequence was developed to preserve, as much as possible, the relative seismic amplitudes of the data and enhance the shallow structure of the water column by effectively suppressing the direct arrival. The migrated seismic oceanography section shows an eddy at the expected Mediterranean Outflow Water depths, steeply dipping reflectors, which indicate the possible presence of frontal activity or secondary dipping eddy structures, and strong horizontal reflections between intermediate water masses suggestive of double diffuse processes. We then developed and applied an iterative geostatistical seismic oceanography inversion methodology to predict the spatial distribution of temperature and salinity. Due to the lack of contemporaneous direct measurements of temperature and salinity we used a global ocean model as spatial constraint during the inversion and nearby contemporaneous ARGO data to infer the expected statistical properties of both model parameters. After the inversion, Bayesian classification was applied to all temperature and salinity models inverted during the last iteration to predict the spatial distribution of three distinct water masses. A preliminary interpretation of these probabilistic models agrees with the expected ocean dynamics of the region.

Pipe structures are considered as fluid conduits beneath cold seeps. These structures have been observed in many geological settings and are widely accepted as the most critical pathway for fluid migration. One of such pipe structures in the Haima cold seep region is investigated herein. The pipe structure extends from below the BSR and reaches the seafloor. It is characterized by a string of events with short and strong seismic amplitudes, similar to the string of bead reflections (SBRs) associated with small-scale caves in carbonate reservoirs. This leads to the hypothesis that multiple small-scale bodies exist within the pipe structure. We test this hypothesis by analysis of diffraction waves and numerical seismic modeling. Travel time pattern analysis indicates that the diffractors within the pipe structure caused the rich diffraction waves on the shot records, and the reversed polarity indicates that the diffractors have a lower impedance than the surrounding sediments. These low-impedance bodies are interpreted as gas pockets within the pipe structures. Based on these interpretations, a conceptual model is proposed to describe the fluid migration process within the pipe. Briefly, we propose that gas pockets within the pipe structure could be analogue to the magma chambers located beneath volcanoes and this may provide a new insight into how gases migrate through the pipe structure and reach the seafloor.

A PRESENTE OBRA É FRUTO DE UM SEMINÁRIO SOBRE "AGRICULTURA E MEIO RURAL NO ESTADO DO RIO DE JANEIRO", REALIZADO EM SETEMBRO DE 1996, QUE CONTOU COM A PARTICIPAÇÃO DE PESQUISADORES QUE SE DEDICAM AO ESTUDO DA TEMÁTICA RURAL DO ESPAÇO FLUMINENSE.

O objetivo central deste trabalho é apresentar um breve retrospecto histórico- geográfico acerca do município de Nova Friburgo, presente na região Serrana Fluminense, destacando, para tanto, sua trajetória histórica e todo o conjunto de repercussões sócio -espacias daí advindas. Para isso retomaremos a história de Nova Friburgo desde sua fundação como uma colônia de suíços ainda no século XIX, o conjunto das atividades mais significativas ali desenvolvidas ao longo do tempo, além de toda a nova dinâmica social resultante

O mapeamento de plataformas de abrasão ao longo da costa usando embarcações e ecobatimetro é dificultado pelas baixas profundidades rasas e alta agitação de ondas. O presente trabalho mapeou os terraços de abrasão emersos e submersos ao longo do litoral do Espírito Santo, Brasil, até a profundidade de 10 m usando técnicas de sensoriamento remoto. Os dados foram obtidos a partir de imagens de satélite Landsat 8, Digital Globe (Google Earth) e ortofotografias foram avaliados quando a eficácia de cada material no mapeamento proposto. Todos os três tipos de imagens utilizadas para mapeamento remoto mostraram interferência de fatores ambientais, principalmente nuvens e turbidez devido à suspensão de sedimentos finos. As imagens derivadas do Google Earth apresentam a maior resolução entre os 3 tipos, mas são menos disponíveis devido à menor frequência de sobrevoo, o que limita a escolha de dias com condições ideais de mapeamento. As imagens landsat, com menor resolução, permitem mais liberdade para a seleção de dias com condições favoráveis para o mapeamento. Ortofotos se mostram úteis no mapeamento de detalhes. Os resultados da detecção remota foram comparados aos dados batimétricos, coletados a partir de uma ecosonda montada em um caiaque, o que proporcionou a representação do relevo em 3D, com melhor indicação da rugosidade do substrato rochoso.

Frente à necessidade de compreender as diferentes investigações antropológicas realizadas fora dos grandes centros produtores dos paradigmas da disciplina, apresentaremos o desenvolvimento da antropologia na América Latina, focando principalmente na antropologia brasileira; bem como pesquisas antropológicas interessadas nos processos de construção de Estados nacionais pós-independência, nomeadamente Timor-Leste e Índia. Por fim, atualizaremos o debate da escrita antropológica focando não apenas na questão poética, mas sobretudo na sua dimensão política.

In the geostatistical modeling and characterization of natural resources, the traditional approach for determining the spatial distribution of a given deposit using stochastic sequential simulation is to use the existing experimental data (i.e., direct measurements) of the property of interest as if there is no uncertainty involved in the data. However, any measurement is prone to error from different sources, for example from the equipment, the sampling method, or the human factor. It is also common to have distinct measurements for the same property with different levels of resolution and uncertainty. There is a need to assess the uncertainty associated with the experimental data and integrate it during the modeling procedure. This process is not straightforward and is often overlooked. For the reliable modeling and characterization of a given ore deposit, measurement uncertainties should be included as an intrinsic part of the geo-modeling procedure. This work proposes the use of a geostatistical simulation algorithm to integrate uncertain experimental data through the use of stochastic sequential simulations with local probability functions. The methodology is applied to the stochastic modeling of a benchmark mineral deposit, where certain and uncertain experimental data co-exist. The uncertain data is modeled by assigning individual probability distribution functions to each sample location. Different strategies are proposed to build these local probability distributions. Each scenario represents variable degrees of uncertainty. The impacts of the different modeling approaches on the final deposit model are discussed. The resulting models of these proposed scenarios are also compared against those retrieved from previous studies that use conventional geostatistical simulation. The results from the proposed approaches showed that using stochastic sequential simulation with local probability functions to represent local uncertainties decreased the estimation error of the resulting model, producing fewer misclassified ore blocks.

Devido à crescente demanda por energias sustentáveis, gestão de resíduos e o uso de materiais recicláveis, o presente trabalho objetivou o desenvolvimento de compósitos poliméricos de matriz de polipropileno reciclado visando o uso como placas absorvedoras de energia solar. Nessa matriz polimérica adicionou-se como fase dispersa um resíduo do tabaco (pó de fumo) empregando teores de 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% e 30%, em massa. Além disso, estudou-se a adição de negro de fumo junto ao pó de fumo, utilizando teores de 6% e 10% de cada fase dispersa. As formulações foram misturadas em homogeneizador de laboratório, moídas em moinhos de facas e processadas por moldagem por compressão a 180°C, obtendo-se placas com dimensões de 400x400mm e espessura de 4 mm, as quais, foram caracterizadas e avaliadas em testes de absorção de calor, tração, flexão, dureza e densidade. Os resultados indicaram potencial de aplicação no sistema de aquecimento solar de água devido aos resultados de absorção térmica. Também, a utilização do negro de fumo como fase dispersa mostrou-se uma grande contribuição para as características mecânicas do material. Outro importante resultado diz respeito a possibilidade de se estar usando um polímero reciclado e um resíduo industrial gerado em grande quantidade, tal como é o pó de fumo, na produção das placas caracterizando assim um ganho ambiental.

INTRODUCTION: In Brazil, patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in the chronic phase were not given first-line imatinib treatment until 2008. Therefore, there was a long period of time between diagnosis and the initiation of imatinib therapy for many patients. This study aims to compare the major molecular remission (MMR) rates of early versus late imatinib therapy in chronic phase CML patients. METHODS: Between May 2002 and November 2007, 44 patients with chronic phase CML were treated with second-line imatinib therapy at the Hematology Unit of the Ophir Loyola Hospital (Belém, Pará, Brazil). BCR-ABL transcript levels were measured at approximately six-month intervals using quantitative polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: The early treatment group presented a 60% probability of achieving MMR, while the probability for those patients who received late treatment was 40%. The probability of either not achieving MMR within one year of the initiation of imatinib therapy or losing MMR was higher in patients who received late treatment (79%), compared with patients who received early treatment (21%, odds ratio=5.75, P=0.012). The probability of maintaining MMR at 30 months of treatment was 80% in the early treatment group and 44% in the late treatment group (P=0.0005). CONCLUSIONS: For CML patients in the chronic phase who were treated with second-line imatinib therapy, the probability of achieving and maintaining MMR was higher in patients who received early treatment compared with those patients for whom the time interval between diagnosis and initiation of imatinib therapy was longer than one year.

Os materiais biodegradáveis, ou parcialmente degradáveis, tem ganhado espaço nos últimos tempos devido ao aumento das políticas que visam controlar e diminuir os problemas ambientais. Dentro deste cenário, este trabalho teve o objetivo de estudar compósitos poliméricos parcialmente biodegradáveis, utilizando termoplástico de amido (TPS) e biomassa fúngica provinda dos gêneros Aspergillus sp e Penicillium sp. Para a confecção destes compósitos utilizou-se como matriz uma blenda com 20% de TPS e 80% de polipropileno (PP), em massa. Como fase dispersa foi utilizada biomassa fúngica em fração mássica de 5%. O principal objetivo da adição desta biomassa foi a possibilidade de aumento das propriedades mecânicas, sem alterar as características biodegradáveis do material. Os compósitos foram cortados em corpos de prova e estes foram avaliados através de ensaios de tração, flexão e dureza. Os resultados indicaram a dependência das propriedades das amostras considerando o tipo de fase dispersa na formulação e também a possibilidade de uso deste material para diversas aplicações.

As expressões idiomáticas (EI) estão frequentemente presentes na nossa comunicação rotineira e são rapidamente aceitas, inseridas e compreendidas por indivíduos de diferentes faixas etárias. EIs como: chutar o balde podem soar estranhas na primeira vez em que ouvimos, mas logo logo são incorporadas no nosso vocabulário. Há indivíduos com diagnóstico de Síndrome de Asperger (AS) que apresentam dificuldade em compreender as EIs. Eles atribuem um sentido literal às expressões, sendo incapazes de alcançar um significado idiomático quando as palavras não mantém uma relação composicional entre forma e significado. Elaboramos um protocolo experimental com intuito de comparar as respostas neurofisiológicas (N400) entre dois grupos: Controle (GC) e Síndrome de Asperger (AS). Constatamos que os indivíduos com AS podem apresentar dificuldade na interpretação de expressões idiomáticas devido à imprevisibilidade semântica dessas construções.

O artigo avalia a relação da morfodinâmica da praia do Lagomar, Macaé - RJ, com o clima de ondas regional e local do RJ, obtido através de resultados de simulações do modelo Wavewatch III, disponíveis para os anos de 1990-2009. Para tanto, foram avaliados três pontos de saídas de dados de ondas próximos à costa, sob diferentes graus de exposição, e seus resultados foram validados com dados medidos em campo por boia oceanográfica fundeada nas proximidades de Arraial do Cabo. Posteriormente, o comportamento das ondas foi relacionado com a morfologia da praia, a partir da análise de 41 perfis topográficos, avaliados em multiescala temporal (1995-2004). Os resultados apontaram boa correlação do modelo com dados reais de altura e período de ondas para a costa do RJ e boa correlação entre as variações da energia das ondas e as variações do volume no perfil da praia ao longo da escala temporal avaliada.

Conduziu-se o presente trabalho com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito da substituição dos náuplios de Artemia sp. pelo rotífero enriquecido e congelado (Brachionus plicatilis, O.F. Müller, 1786) sobre a sobrevivência e peso seco das larvas. O experimento foi conduzido em blocos casualizados, sendo testados quatro regimes alimentares na larvicultura do camarão M. rosenbergii, com quatro repetições por tratamento. Nos regimes alimentares, realizaram-se substituições progressivas de náuplios de Artemia sp. (nas) pelo rotífero Brachionus plicatilis (rots) e testaram-se os seguintes tratamentos: 100% B. plicatilis (30 rots/mL) (T1); 100% Artemia sp. (5 nas/mL) (T2), 60% Artemia sp. (3 nas/mL) + 40% B. plicatilis (12 rots/mL) (T3) e 40% Artemia sp. (2 nas/mL) + 60% B. plicatilis (18 rots/mL) (T4), adicionando-se a estes tratamentos ração úmida. Os resultados da sobrevivência final em pós-larvas foram analisados pelo teste do X² e demonstraram não haver diferenças significativas do tratamento T2 (68,36%) sobre os tratamentos T3 (68,76%) e T4 (64,60%). O tratamento T1 (100% B. plicatilis) apresentou mortalidade total no 14º dia do experimento. O peso seco médio das pós-larvas foi analisado estatisticamente pela ANOVA, não apresentando diferenças significativas entre os valores de 3,29 mg (T2), 3,08 mg (T3) e 3,38 mg (T4). A taxa de mortalidade baseada no número de larvas encontradas mortas diariamente, em relação ao número de larvas estocadas inicialmente, foi maior para todos os tratamentos nos primeiros 15 dias do experimento. Portanto, os resultados demonstraram que a substituição total de rotíferos enriquecidos e congelados acarretou a mortalidade total das larvas, mas a substituição parcial de 40% e 60% dos náuplios de Artemia sp. pelo B. plicatilis foi viável, não apresentando prejuízos significativos em termos de sobrevivência e peso seco das pós-larvas.This work was carried out to identify the replacement of the nauplii Artemia sp. for the enriched and frozen rotifer (Brachionus plicatilis O.F. Müller, 1786) on the larval development and survival of the freshwater prawn M. rosenbergii. The experiment was developed according to the following treatments: 100% B. plicatilis (30 rots/ mL) (T1); 100% Artemia sp. (5 nas/ mL) (T2), 60% Artemia sp. (3 nas/ mL) + 40% B. plicatilis (12 rots/ mL) (T3) e 40% Artemia sp. (2 nas/ mL) + 60% B. plicatilis (18 rots/ mL) (T4). Humid ration was added to all treatments. The results of the final survival in post-larvae were analyzed by the X² test and demonstrated no significant differences from treatment T2 (68.36%) to T3 and T4: 68.76% and 64.60%, respectively. T1 treatment (100% B. plicatilis) presented total mortality at 14th day of the experiment. Average dry weight of the pos-larvae was analyzed statistically by ANOVA and showed no significant differences in values: 3.29 mg (T2), 3.08 mg (T3) and 3.38 mg (T4). No significant differences among treatments T2, T3 and T4 were observed. The best mortality rate was observed from 1 to 15 day of hatchery based on the number of dead larval stored in the daily material siphoned. Therefore, these results suggest that the total substitution of the enriched and frozen rotifer is not recommended due to a total mortality of larvae, whereas the partial replacement of 40% and 60% of the Artemia sp nauplii by the enriched and frozen rotifer is possible, with no significant damages to survival and post-larval growth.

A mobilidade de praia ocorre em diversas escalas temporais e sua melhor compreensão se dá pela análise integrada dos diferentes processos atuantes na costa em sua escala de eventos. No município de Guarapari (ES), características naturais em nível regional e local somaram-se a problemas decorrentes da ocupação e uso da orla marítima de forma desordenada, acarretando processos acentuados de erosão costeira, com consequente perda dos serviços naturais e qualidade ambiental. Neste aspecto, este trabalho se propôs a avaliar as alterações da linha de costa da Praia do Morro (Guarapari – ES), balneário sobremaneira frequentado por turistas, que apresenta estado erosivo significativo. A análise das variações ocorreu de forma à contemplar as escalas multidecadal e anual. A obtenção dos dados foi realizada através de aerofotos, nas quais foram utilizadas técnicas de geoprocessamento, aplicação de modelos computacionais de predição de enseada e por meio da aplicação de métodos de obtenção de dados morfodinâmicos in loco, este último em um período de 1 ano de monitoramento. As maiores taxas de erosão no intervalo multidecadal se manifestaram na extremidade NE do arco, entre 1970 e 1978; entretanto, para o intervalo de 1970 a 2007, as taxas de erosão mantiveram-se basicamente constantes. Ao final, foi possível encontrar validação metodológica entre as diferentes escalas abordadas e inferir diagnósticos com base nos resultados obtidos.

Herein is reported the first record of Trechona venosa (Araneae, Dipluridae) for the state of Minas Gerais. The previous records are restricted to a maximum range of about 50 km from the Atlantic Ocean coast, in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo. The new record extends the species distribution to 200 km far from coast.
