In this paper, the effect of spin-coating cycles with different densities on the light scattering properties of Ag nanowires (Ag NWs) transparent conductive films was investigated. The Ag NWs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The results indicate that haze factor and the scattering in reflection and transmission directions increased with an increase in Ag NWs density. The resulting Ag NWs show cross point dropped down from ∼800 nm to ∼600 nm for spin coating 4–7 cycles. The ratio of back and forward scattering for Ag NWs exhibited a cross point that shifted to lower wavelengths with the increase in density. The controlling scattering properties of Ag NWs films may open a new avenue for Ag NWs application.

Flexible and stretchable conductive materials have received significant attention due to their numerous potential applications in flexible printed electronics. In this paper, we describe a new type of conductive filler for flexible electrodes&mdash, silver nanonets prepared through the &ldquo, dissolution&ndash, recrystallization&rdquo, solvothermal route from porous silver nanoflakes. These new silver fillers show characteristics of both nanoflakes and nanoparticles with propensity to form interpenetrating polymer&ndash, silver networks. This effectively minimizes trade-off between composite electrode conductivity and stretchability and enables fabrication of the flexible electrodes simultaneously exhibiting high conductivity and mechanical durability. For example, an electrode with uniform, networked silver structure from the flakiest silver particles showed the lowest increase of resistivity upon extension (3500%), compared to that of the electrode filled with less flaky (3D) particles (&gt, 50,000%).

Flexible and stretchable conductive materials have received significant attention in several applications such as flexible displays and sensors. In this paper, we report a highly dispersed porous Ag nanoflakes with clean surfaces were fabricated through an explosive growth process. The evolution process from silver nanoflakes to nanomeshes occurred by the novel “dissolution–recrystallization” solvothermal process. The as-obtained Ag meshes have the dual nature of nanoflakes and nanoparticles, which could create an intercross and interpenetration conductive network structures between silver and polymer in the printed elastic conductor, therefore, the silver meshes as conductive fillers used in elastic conductor simultaneously exhibit high conductivity and mechanical durability.

In this work, the role of long period stacking ordered (LPSO) phase in the crack propagation behavior of an as-cast Mg95.5Y3Zn1.5 alloy was investigated by dynamic four-point bent tests. The as-cast Mg95.5Y3Zn1.5 alloy is mainly composed of Mg matrix, 18R LPSO phase located at the grain boundaries and 14H LPSO phase located within the Mg matrix. The alloy exhibits excellent dynamic mechanical properties, the yield stress, maximum stress and strain to failure are 190.51 &plusmn, 3.52 MPa, 378.32 &plusmn, 4.26 MPa and 0.168 &plusmn, 0.006, respectively, at the strain rate of ~3000 s&minus, 1. The LPSO phase effectively hinders dynamic crack propagation in four typical ways, including crack tip blunting, crack opening inhibition, crack deflection and crack bridging, which are beneficial to the mechanical properties of the alloy under dynamic loadings.

High layer thickness has been used to improve the building efficiency in Selective Laser Melting (SLM), but its application is limited due to the poor component accuracy and performance. In order to eliminate the process instability and improve forming precision at high layer thicknesses, the effects of 100 μm and 200 μm layer thickness on surface quality, density, microstructure, defect behavior and tensile properties of Ti-6Al-4V fabricated by SLM were investigated in this work. It was found that high layer thickness seriously deteriorated surface roughness rather than density and tensile properties during SLM process. Specifically, all of the generated samples had relatively coarse surfaces (Sa > 45 µm), especially for the 200-µm layer thickness samples (Sa > 95 µm), which could be smoothed over (Sa = 13 µm) by the surface re-melting process. Moreover, when the layer thickness was 100 µm, the optimal ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and elongation were 1200 MPa, 1100 MPa and 10.2%, respectively; which were consistent with those at the thin layer thicknesses used in previous researches because of the similar density and microstructure. In comparison, samples fabricated at 200 µm layer thickness exhibited lower values of 1130 MPa, 1040 MPa and 7.57%, respectively; this was due to the existence of defects, such as pores, incomplete fusion defects and slag inclusions, and the formation of different microstructures, i.e., martensite and widmanstatten.

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs), γ-Fe2O3, with hydrophilic surfaces are fabricated in ethylene glycol solutions, without surfactant or additive, by solvothermal process from α-Fe2O3 nanoparticle as precursors. With the addition of a trace of hydrazine hydrate, the cubic phase Fe3O4 nanoparticles are obtained instead of γ-Fe2O3. The saturation magnetization value of γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles is up to 74.3 emu/g. This study provides a low cost, safe, and universal route to serve as excellent biocompatibility magnetic core for future applications in biomedical, agriculture, and horticulture applications.
