Abstract

Using current-voltage (I-V) and capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements, we report on the unusual physics and promising technical applications associated with the formation of Schottky barriers at the interface of a one-atom-thick zero-gap semiconductor (graphene) and conventional semiconductors. When chemical vapor deposited graphene is transferred onto n-type Si, GaAs, 4H-SiC and GaN semiconductor substrates, there is a strong van der Waals attraction that is accompanied by charge transfer across the interface and the formation of a rectifying (Schottky) barrier. Thermionic emission theory in conjunction with the Schottky-Mott model within the context of bond-polarization theory provides a surprisingly good description of the electrical properties. Applications, such as to sensors where in forward bias there is exponential sensitivity to changes in the Schottky barrier height due to the presence of absorbates on the graphene or to analogue devices for which Schottky barriers are integral components are promising because of graphene's mechanical stability, its resistance to diffusion, its robustness at high temperatures and its demonstrated capability to embrace multiple functionalities., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, 1 table (Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License.)

Abstract

Many copy number variants (CNVs) confer risk for the same range of neurodevelopmental symptoms and psychiatric conditions including autism and schizophrenia. Yet, to date neuroimaging studies have typically been carried out one mutation at a time, showing that CNVs have large effects on brain anatomy. Here, we aimed to characterize and quantify the distinct brain morphometry effects and latent dimensions across 8 neuropsychiatric CNVs. We analyzed T1-weighted MRI data from clinically and non-clinically ascertained CNV carriers (deletion/duplication) at the 1q21.1 (n = 39/28), 16p11.2 (n = 87/78), 22q11.2 (n = 75/30), and 15q11.2 (n = 72/76) loci as well as 1296 non-carriers (controls). Case-control contrasts of all examined genomic loci demonstrated effects on brain anatomy, with deletions and duplications showing mirror effects at the global and regional levels. Although CNVs mainly showed distinct brain patterns, principal component analysis (PCA) loaded subsets of CNVs on two latent brain dimensions, which explained 32 and 29% of the variance of the 8 Cohen’s d maps. The cingulate gyrus, insula, supplementary motor cortex, and cerebellum were identified by PCA and multi-view pattern learning as top regions contributing to latent dimension shared across subsets of CNVs. The large proportion of distinct CNV effects on brain morphology may explain the small neuroimaging effect sizes reported in polygenic psychiatric conditions. Nevertheless, latent gene brain morphology dimensions will help subgroup the rapidly expanding landscape of neuropsychiatric variants and dissect the heterogeneity of idiopathic conditions.

48. Impact du poids de naissance sur la survenue des complications néonatales chez des patientes diabétiques de type 1

Abstract

Malgré une prise en charge optimisée lors de la grossesse chez les patientes DT1, certaines complications ne sont pas contrôlées comme l’excès de croissance fœtale (EPF) qui est associé à d’autres complications comme l’hypoglycémie néonatale, la détresse respiratoire, le transfert en réanimation. L’objectif était de déterminer l’impact du poids de naissance (PN) sur les complications néonatales et d’identifier des facteurs maternels prédictifs. Étude observationnelle, rétrospective, monocentrique entre 1997 et 2022. Nous avons recueilli les données métaboliques maternelles, obstétricales et pédiatriques. La macrosomie (LGA) est définie par un PN≥90epercentile (AUDIPOG). Les complications néonatales comme l’hypoglycémie néonatale, la détresse respiratoire et les transferts néonataux ont été analysés en catégories de percentiles de naissance. Sept cent quatre-vingt-dix-sept grossesses de patientes DT1 ont été analysées. Le PN moyen était de 3520 grammes avec 52,8 % de LGA. 30,9 % des nouveau-nés ont présenté une hypoglycémie, 8,4 % une détresse respiratoire, et 12,4 % ont été transférés en néonatalogie. Nous avons montré un risque significativement accru d’hypoglycémie néonatale (OR=1,67 ; IC95 %=1,17–2,36), de détresse respiratoire (OR=3,08 ; IC95 %=1,60–5,93) et de transferts néonataux (OR=3,32 ; IC95 %=1,19–5,60) en cas de PN>97epercentile. Nous n’avons pas montré d’augmentation significative du risque de ces complications selon la durée de diabète, la présence d’une rétinopathie ou d’une prééclampsie. L’EPF est associé aux hypoglycémies néonatales et à la détresse respiratoire. Ces données sont intéressantes dans la prise en charge clinique de ces patientes notamment en ce qui concerne les décisions de fin de grossesse et la surveillance qui doit être accrue en raison du risque néonatal.
