Approximately 10% of patients experience symptoms of Post COVID-19 Condition (PCC) after a SARS-CoV-2 infection. Akin acute COVID-19, PCC may impact a multitude of organs and systems, such as the cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, and neurological systems. The frequency and associated risk factors of PCC are still unclear among both community and hospital settings in individuals with a history of COVID-19. The LOCUS study was designed to clarify the PCC’s burden and associated risk factors. LOCUS is a multi-component study that encompasses three complementary building blocks. The “Cardiovascular and respiratory events following COVID-19” component is set to estimate the incidence of cardiovascular and respiratory events after COVID-19 in eight Portuguese hospitals via electronic health records consultation. The “Physical and mental symptoms following COVID-19” component aims to address the community prevalence of self-reported PCC symptoms through a questionnaire-based approach. Finally, the "Treating and living with Post COVID-19 Condition" component will employ semi-structured interviews and focus groups to characterise reported experiences of using or working in healthcare and community services for the treatment of PCC symptoms. This multi-component study represents an innovative approach to exploring the health consequences of PCC. Objective: The current scoping review aims to scope the body of literature on patient and family engagement in different types of surgical interventions throughout the perioperative journey. Introduction: Surgical procedures are among the most complex components of healthcare delivery. Surgical patients have a 2.5times higher risk of adverse events than non-surgical patients, and a significant proportion of these adverse events are preventable. Patients and families are the only constant participants throughout the perioperative journey, and, as such, patient and family engagement (PFE) can benefit the quality and safety of care. There is scarce evidence on PFE throughout the entire perioperative journey, starting from referral until hospital-primary healthcare handover. Thus, the current reviews aims to map the existing knowledge on the PFE in all types of ambulatory, elective or emergency surgical procedures. Inclusion criteria: The current review will consider the population as any adult (≥18 years old) surgical patient and their family/caregiver. As for the concept and context, this review focuses on investigating PFE in patient safety interventions throughout the perioperative journey, including within and outside of hospital/healthcare. Methods: The current review was based on the Joanna Briggs Institute update guidelines along with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). The electronic databases PubMed, Web of Science, SCOPUS, CINAHL, and PsychINFO will be searched for scientific articles published between the year 2003-2023, published in English, Portuguese, or Spanish. In addition, a gray literature search was conducted. The search query will be developed in collaboration with the research librarian, and the selection of sources of evidence and data extraction will be conducted by two independent researchers; in case of disagreement, this researcher will be consulted to reach consensus. The number of eligible studies included in this review will be presented using a PRISMA flow diagram, and the interventions mapped according to the WHO Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021–2030 objective four pillars.

Evaluating causal effects of public health interventions using traditional randomized controlled trials might not be feasible. Quasi-experimental designs are a valid option but still not widely used in Portugal. Knowing their use will support the development of this research area. We thus propose a protocol to perform a scoping review aiming at identifying and characterising the use of quasi-experimental studies to evaluate causal effects of public health interventions in Portugal. We will include studies assessing causal effects of one or more public health intervention using a quasi-experimental study. PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and CINHAL will be searched combining free text and controlled vocabulary terms from two concepts: quasi-experimental studies and Portugal. Grey literature will be identified through screening of tables of contents of non-indexed publications and institutional repositories of national Public Health PhD and MSc programmes theses. Title and abstract followed by full-text, double-screening, will be performed. Searches will be supplemented by reference mining and contact of authors of eligible studies. We will extract information on intervention assessed, study design, statistical analysis approach and reporting guidelines followed using a standardised extraction form. Results will be synthesized narratively, with descriptive information on areas and characteristics of assessed public health interventions, study design and statistical analysis employed. Whenever possible, descriptions will be categorized and absolute and relative frequencies will be reported. Our review will identify gaps in the use of quasi-experimental studies thus informing further development of this research area in Portugal.

Dissertação de mestrado em Engenharia Humana, Com esta dissertação, pretende-se clarificar quais os fatores que necessariamente influenciam as diferenças de cultura e clima de segurança entre os vários níveis da organização e quais os procedimentos a adotar para os uniformizar. Foi desenvolvido um estudo de caso numa empresa da área industrial de metalomecânica com as respetivas áreas de negócio, comercialização de máquinas de terraplanagem para a construção civil e obras públicas e posterior assistência técnica pós-venda com o objetivo de verificar se a empresa partilha a cultura de segurança de igual forma. Ao nível bibliográfico fez-se uma pesquisa, cujo objetivo foi encontrar estudos realizados com estes dois conceitos e entender qual a sua relação com os fatores de risco nas empresas. Permitindo assim, atualização e identificação da pertinência atual destes conceitos. Para este estudo foi necessário proceder ao levantamento, compilação e análise da informação existente na empresa, relacionada com os índices de segurança dos anos de 2017, 2018 e 2019. A sinistralidade de 2020 foi desenvolvida no âmbito deste trabalho permitindo a continuação da análise da evolução temporal destes dados e realizar um estudo comparativo entre os diferentes anos. Posteriormente, foi elaborado um plano de formação e ação de formação que foi aplicado aos trabalhadores da empresa. De modo a perceber o clima de segurança vivido na empresa, foi aplicado um questionário de aceitação de risco aos trabalhadores. Para além da avaliação do clima de segurança, este questionário indica-nos o nível de aceitação de risco por parte dos trabalhadores. Os principais resultados indicam que com a aplicação do plano de formação elaborado de acordo as necessidades da empresa. Através da análise das respostas ao questionário de aceitação de risco foi notório que nem toda a empresa partilha do mesmo clima de segurança e por consequência a cultura de segurança também não é partilhada de igual forma pelos trabalhadores. Contudo, alterando metodologias e introduzindo novas ferramentas de trabalho, a empresa encaminha-se para um nível superior de cultura de segurança. Todo este trabalho serviu não só para a realização desta dissertação como também para uma melhoria significativa da cultura de segurança da empresa., This dissertation aims to clarify which factors necessarily influence the differences in culture and safety climate among the various levels of the organization and which procedures should be adopted to standardize. A case study was developed in a company in the metalworking industrial area with the respective business areas, marketing of earthmoving machinery for civil construction and public works and subsequent after-sales technical assistance with the objective of verifying whether the company shares the safety culture equally. At the bibliographic level it is intended to do a more exhaustive search, to try to find more studies carried out with these two concepts and what their relationship is with the risk factor in companies. For this study it was necessary to survey, analyze and compile information related to the safety indexes that existed in the company from previous years, namely 2017, 2018 and 2019. In order to continue this work in 2020, it was necessary to execute all the information for further analysis and comparison with the other years. Following the analysis of all this information, a training plan and training action was developed and applied to the company's employees. In order to understand the safety climate in the company, a questionnaire of risk acceptance was applied to the workers, besides the evaluation of the safety climate, this questionnaire indicates the level of risk acceptance by the workers. Gathering all this information, it is possible to answer the main objective of this dissertation as well as project work for the future of the company. The main results indicate that with the application of the training plan prepared according to the needs of the company. Through the analysis of the answers to the risk acceptance questionnaire it was clear that not all the company shares the same safety climate and consequently the safety culture is not equally shared by the workers. However, by changing methodologies and introducing new work tools, the company is moving towards a higher level of safety culture. All this work served not only for the completion of this dissertation but also for a significant improvement in the safety culture of the company.

Research Areas: Infectious Diseases ; Pharmacology & Pharmacy Animal and food sources are seen as a potential transmission pathway of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to humans. The aim of this study is to describe Campylobacter, Salmonella, and commensal Escherichia coli multi-drug resistance (MDR) in the food chain between 2014 and 2019 in Portugal. AMR surveillance data from food-producing animals and food were assessed. MDR relative frequencies were estimated by bacterial genus and year. AMR profiles were created using observations of resistance to antimicrobial classes from each isolate. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing results were clustered using k-modes. Clusters were described by population, AMR classification, β-lactamases, sample stage, sample type, season, and year. Overall, MDR was more prevalent for E. coli, ranging from 74–90% in animal and 94–100% in food samples. MDR was found to be more widespread in resistance profiles that were common among E. coli and Salmonella isolates and in those exclusively observed for E. coli, frequently including (fluoro)quinolones and cephalosporins resistance. β-lactam resistance was observed around 75% to 3rd/4th-generation cephalosporins in E. coli. Clusters suggest an escalating MDR behaviour from farm to post-farm stages in all bacteria and that Salmonella (fluoro)quinolones resistance may be associated with broilers.
