Topological edge state (TES) has emerged as a significant research focus in photonics due to its unique property of unidirectional transmission. This feature provides immunity to certain structural disorders or perturbations, greatly improving the robustness of photonic systems and enabling various applications such as optical isolation and topological lasers. Nevertheless, most of current researches focus on the fixed generated TES with no means to control, leaving untapped potential for manipulating the TES through specific methods. In this work, we propose a topological Su–Schriffer–Heeger (SSH) waveguides-lattice scheme that enables the controllable TES without changing the topological phase of the system. Light is selectively localized at the edges of the SSH waveguide lattice, which is determined by the special waveguide modes. Eventually, achieving an effective mode splitter. To validate our proposal, we further demonstrate such mode-controlled TES with a fabricated on-chip device in experiment. The experimentally tested results confirm a successful separation of the waveguide modes with the mode extinction ratio of approximately 10 dB in each channel near the wavelength of 1550 nm. This scheme presents a promising approach for manipulating the TES in photonic systems, thereby facilitating the design of optical controllable topological photonic devices.

Objective To explore the clinical application of follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplantation in male androgen alopecia (AGA). Methods From August 2016 to September 2018, male AGA patients operated with FUE hair transplantation in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Medical University were retrospectively analyzed.At one year after transplantation, clinical curative effect was evaluated by the survival hair density and follicles rate of FUE transplantation, meanwhile surgical complications, patient satisfaction rate and life quality score were measured and analyzed. Results A total of 126 male AGA patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included, with average age was (37±9.05) years and average disease course was (10±2.76) years.According to the Hamilton-Norwood grade standard, there were 5 grade Ⅱpatients, 55 grade Ⅲ patients, 54 grade Ⅳ patients, 10 grade Ⅴ patients, and 2 grade Ⅵ patients.At one year after transplantation, viable hair density on the anterior hairline and the top of the head was (65±7) FUs/cm2 and (43±4) FUs/cm2, respectively.The survival rate of hair follicles was more than 90%, even more than 95% among the 107 AGA patients.The effective rate was 100%(126/126), no serious complications occurred, and the satisfaction rate of patients was 97.6%(123/126).Besides, the scores of physical function, psychological function, social function and material life status of 126 AGA patients were significantly increased than those before transplantation (all P < 0.01). Conclusions FUE hair transplantation has significant clinical effect, and is highly safe and effective.With the potential to dramatically improve life quality, it can be widely applied in treatment of AGA.

Cylindrical vector beams with polarization singularities, transmission stability and turbulence resilient, are orthogonally structured light beams providing new degrees of freedom for multiplexing optical communications. The demultiplexing of the CVBs with high efficiency and low crosstalk is of vital importance for the practical applications. Here, we propose a lens-less CVB sorting approach with a set of dielectric metasurface devices. The metasurface is composed of elliptical silicon nanopillars, which are capable of vector field steering. By performing mode transformations on both left-handed and right-handed polarization components of the CVBs, cylindrical vector beams can be demultiplexed with high efficiency and reduced crosstalk. Furthermore, by adjusting the phase response of the vectorial diffractive element into a set of Pancharatnam–Berry (PB) phase planes, we experimentally demonstrate 11 CVBs sorting with a set of P–B phase liquid crystal devices. The proposed device may benefit the CVB-based mode multiplexing communications in future.

Pituitary adenoma is one common type of intracranial tumors, accounting for about 10% of intracranial tumors. Although pituitary adenomas are benign tumors, the complete resection and recurrence prevention remain challengeable due to aggressive growth of tumor, limited equipment conditions and surgical techniques of the surgeon. The proportion of recurrent pituitary adenomas is rising year by year and the difficulty of treatment also increases. This article reviews the diagnosis and treatment of recurrent pituitary adenomas based on the summary data of invasive or recurrent pituitary adenomas cases in our center, including indication for the second transsphenoidal surgery, surgical techniques, and prevention and treatment of postoperative complications, to provide reference for clinicians in this field.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is currently the most prevalent metabolic disorder all over the world, and lipid metabolic disorders and inflammation are closely associated and contribute to the pathogenesis of NAFLD. Cholesterol 25-hydroxylase (Ch25h) and its product, 25-hydroxycholesterol (25-HC), play important roles in cholesterol homeostasis and inflammation, but whether Ch25h and 25-HC are involved in NAFLD remains uncertain. In this study, we use Ch25h knockout mice, hepatic cells and liver biopsies to explore the role of Ch25h and 25-HC in lipid metabolism and accumulation in liver, determine the molecular mechanism of lipid accumulation and inflammation influenced by Ch25h and 25-HC, and assess the regulatory effects of Ch25h and 25-HC on human NAFLD. Our results indicate that mice lacking Ch25h have normal cholesterol homeostasis with normal diet, but under the condition of high fat diet (HFD), the mice show higher total cholesterol and triglyceride in serum, and prone to hepatic steatosis. Ch25h deficiency reduces the cholesterol efflux regulated by liver X receptor α (LXRα), increases the synthesis of cholesterol mediated by sterol-regulatory element binding protein 2 (SREBP-2), and increases the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome, therefore promotes hepatic steatosis. Collectively, our data suggest that Ch25h and 25-HC play important roles in lipid metabolism and inflammation, thereby exerting anti-NAFLD functions.

Polarimetry has been demonstrated essential in various disciplines, such as optical communications, imaging, and astronomy. On-chip nanostructures for polarization measurements are most expected to replace the conventional bulk elements, and hence minimize the polarimeter for integrated applications. Some on-chip nanophotonic polarimeter via polarization detection has been implemented, in which the separation of two spin polarized states is needed. However, due to the relatively low coupling efficiency or complicated photonic silicon circuits, on-chip polarimetry using a single device still remains challenging. Here, we introduce and investigate an on-chip polarimeter with nanostructures using the inverse design method. The developed device shows the ability to detect the four polarization components of light, two of which are the spin polarizations, and the other two are the linear polarizations. The retrieved Stokes parameters with experimentally tested data are in close agreement with the numerical results. We also show the proof of concept demonstration for high-speed Stokes vector optical signals detection. In the high-speed communication experiment with data rate up to 16 GBd, the detected optical signals via polarization measurements at multiple wavelengths in the C-band were recovered with the bit error rate below the 20% forward error correction threshold. The proposed on-chip polarimeter shows promising performance both in Stokes polarimetry and high-speed optical communication applications.

As an innovative minimally invasive surgical technology, robot-assisted surgery (RAS) has greatly improved the accuracy and safety of surgery through the advantages of three-dimensional magnification, tremor filtering, precision and flexibility, and has been carried out by an increasing number of surgeries. In recent years, robots have been gradually applied to children, bringing new ideas and challenges to pediatric surgeons. This review will describe the advantages and limitations of robotic surgery in children, summarize its application in pediatric surgery, and provide an outlook. It is believed that clinicians should actively carry out RAS under the premise of rigorously ensuring surgical indications and strive to improve the efficacy of surgical treatment for children.

This study aimed to identify the mediation effects of health locus of control (HLC) and hope between stroke patients’ social support and self-management.

The source of water supply in Nanchang City is relatively single, and the safety of urban water supply is difficult to guarantee. According to the hydrogeological conditions of the study area, a threedimensional visualization numerical model of groundwater system was established. After the model identification and verification, combined with the target of emergency water supply in Nanchang city, the emergency exploitation of groundwater in Youkou emergency water source was simulated by using the model under different emergency exploitation schemes, respectively. The prediction results show that compared with scheme I and scheme II, scheme III is most suitable for the requirements of well layout, which has the advantages with the minimum drawdown of groundwater level, and the maximum exploitation. For scheme III, under the conditions that the dewatered aquifers are no more than 1/2 and 2/3 of the original aquifer, the emergency exploitation of 36.55×104m3/d and 49.45×104m3/d can be provided, which could meet the emergency water demands of 54.9% and 74.3% of the local residents, respectively.
