We present a suite of cosmological N-body simulations with cold dark matter and baryons aiming at modeling the low-density regions of the IGM as probed by the Lyman-$\alpha$ forests at high redshift. The simulations are designed to match the requirements imposed by the quality of BOSS and eBOSS data. They are made using either 2x768$^3$ or 2x192$^3$ particles, spanning volumes ranging from (25 Mpc.h$^{-1})^3$ for high-resolution simulations to (100 Mpc.h$^{-1})^3$ for large-volume ones. Using a splicing technique, the resolution is further enhanced to reach the equivalent of simulations with 2x3072$^3$= 58 billion particles in a (100 Mpc.h$^{-1}$)^3 box size, i.e. a mean mass per gas particle of 1.2x10$^5$M_sun.h$^{-1}$. We show that the resulting power spectrum is accurate at the 2% level over the full range from a few Mpc to several tens of Mpc. We explore the effect on the one-dimensional transmitted-flux power spectrum of 4 cosmological parameters ($n_s, \sigma_8, \Omega_m, H_0$) and 2 astrophysical parameters ($T_0, \gamma$) related to the heating rate of the IGM. By varying the input parameters around a central model chosen to be in agreement with the latest Planck results, we built a grid of simulations that allows the study of the impact on the flux power spectrum of these six relevant parameters. We improve upon previous studies by not only measuring the effect of each parameter individually, but also probing the impact of the simultaneous variation of each pair of parameters. We thus provide a full second-order expansion, including cross-terms, around our central model. We check the validity of the second-order expansion with independent simulations obtained either with different cosmological parameters or different seeds. Finally, a comparison to the one-dimensional Ly-$\alpha$ forest power spectrum obtained with BOSS shows an excellent agreement., Comment: 30 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in JCAP. Moreover, specific T-cell response has been less studied, but it has recently been shown that when asymptomatic, patients more frequently display a T-cell response than a humoral response.7 Given that chilblains are described as a later manifestation of COVID-19,1 it is unsurprising that the patients had negative PCR results. 17. First NGS full genome characterization of a hepatitis C virus genotype 7 divergent subtype

- Abstract
We report the near full length genome sequence, of an hepatitis C virus isolate from a man originating from Democratic Republic of Congo, whose genotype could not be determined by the routinely used sequence technique.The near-complete genome sequence of this variant BAK1 was obtained by the association of two next generation sequencing technologies.Evolutionary analysis indicates that this isolate BAK1 could be the first reported strain belonging to a new HCV-7b subtype. This new subtype has been incorrectly identified as genotype 2 by Versant HCV Genotype 2.0 assay (LiPA).The requirement of three independent isolates has been filled and a new subtype can be assigned. More examples of HCV-7 are required to better understand its origin, its pathogenicity and its relationship with genotype 2.

We report on the measurement of W-boson pair-production with the L3 detector at LEP at an average centre-of-mass energy of 172.13 GeV. In a data sample corresponding to a total luminosity of 10.25 pb(-1) we select 110 four-fermion events with pairs of hadronic jets or leptons with high invariant masses. Branching fractions of W decays into different fermion-antifermion pairs are determined with and without the assumption of charged-current lepton universality. The branching fraction for hadronic W decays is measured to be: B(W --> hadrons) = 64.2(-3.8)(+3.7) (stat.) +/- 0.5 (syst.) %. Combining all final states the total cross section for W-pair production is measured to be: sigma(ww) = 12.27(-1.32)(+1.41) (stat.) +/- 0.23 (syst.) pb. The results are in good agreement with the Standard Model. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.

On the basis of about 3.1 million Z decays collected with the L3 detector at LEP, we observe that the production of these particles is well modelled by string fragmentation. International audience; The BOSS quasar spectra analyzed so far contain over a quarter billion pixels of information on the intervening intergalactic medium. The statistical power of BOSS has previously enabled 10% of the eventual full dataset to yield the first measurements of three dimensional large-scale structure in the Lya forest (Slosar et al 2011). Here we present results from a sample several times larger, covering several topics in cosmology and intergalactic medium science which are qualitatively transformed by the dense sampling (20 quasars per square degree) and enormous sky area. These include new constraints on cosmology and the neutrino mass from a Lya forest power spectrum measurement using 20 times more spectra than the largest previously published analysis (from SDSS), a new catalog of metal absorbers and a stacking analysis which has uncovered many metal species never before seen in the intergalactic medium. Cross-correlations of quasars, galaxies, metal lines and Lyman series absorption provide us with a wide variety of probes, including of cosmology, quasar host masses, lifetimes, and absorber galaxy masses. We show several of these results. We also show through correlation function analysis that the prime task, of making a BAO detection from Lya forest clustering, (the first BAO constraint between z=1 and the CMB) is well on the way to completion.

Using a data sample of 1475000 Z --> q (q) over bar(gamma) events collected during 1993 with the L3 detector at LEP, we have studied the purely leptonic decays of heavy flavour mesons, D-s(-) --> tau(-)(v) over bar(tau) and B- --> tau(-)(v) over bar(tau). A signal is observed in the invariant mass distribution M(gamma D-s(-)) corresponding to the decay sequence D-s(*-) --> gamma D-s(-), D-s(-) --> tau(-)(v) over bar(tau), tau(-)(v) over bar(tau), tau(-) --> l(-)(v) over bar(l)v(tau). The branching fraction for D-s(-) tau(-) (v) over bar(tau) decays is measured to be B(D-s(-) --> tau(-)(v) over bar(tau)) = 0.074 +/- 0.028(stat) +/- 0.016(syst) +/- 0.018(norm). No signal of B- --> tau-(v) over bar(tau) decays is observed in the data, corresponding to an upper limit on the branching fraction B(B- --> tau(-)(v) over bar(tau)) < 5.7 x 10(-4) at 90% CL. A study of neutral-current four-fermion processes is performed, using data collected by the L3 detector at LEP during high-energy runs at centre-of-mass energies 130-136, 161 and 170-172 GeV, with integrated luminosities of 4.9, 10.7 and 10.1 pb(-1), respectively. Total and differential cross sections for the process e(+)e(-) --> gamma gamma(gamma), and the total cross section for the process e(+)e(-) --> gamma gamma gamma, are measured at energies around 91 GeV using the data collected with the L3 detector from 1991 to 1993. We set lower limits, at 95% CL, on a contact interaction energy scale parameter Lambda > 602 GeV, on the mass of an excited electron m(c)* > 146 GeV and on the QED cut-off parameters Lambda(+) > 149 GeV and Lambda(-) > 143 GeV. Upper limits are also set on the branching fractions of Z decaying into gamma gamma, pi degrees gamma and eta gamma of 5.2 x 10(-5), 5.2 x 10(-5) and 7.6 x 10(-5) respectively. The reactions e(+)e(-) --> rho(+)rho(-)n gamma (rho = e, mu, tau) are studied using the data collected from 1990 to 1994. The data are consistent with the QED expectations.

A search for the decays B-d,s(0) --> gamma gamma in 2.95 million hadronic Z decays has been performed using the L3 detector at LEP. No candidates are found in the signal region and upper limits have been set on the branching ratios: Br(B-d(0) --> gamma gamma) < 3.9 x 10(-5) and Br(B-s(0) --> gamma gamma) < 14.8 x 10(-5) at 90% CL. These are the first limits set on these exclusive rare decays.

We have measured the total and differential cross sections of the reaction e+ e- --> gamma-gamma(gamma) at center-of-mass energies around 91 GeV, with an integrated luminosity of 14.2 pb-1. The results are in good agreement with QED predictions. We set lower limits, at 95% confidence level, on the QED cutoff parameters of LAMBDA+ > 139 GeV, LAMBDA- > 108 GeV and on the mass of an excited electron of m(e*) > 127 GeV. We searched for Z0 rare decays with photonic signatures in the final state. Upper limits, at 95% confidence level, for the branching ratio of ZO decaying into pi-0-gamma/gamma-gamma, eta-gamma and gamma-gamma-gamma are 1.2 x 10(-4), 1.8 x 10(-4), 3.3 x 10(-5) respectively.

CRISTAL ,WORKFLOW - Abstract
CRISTAL is a distributed scientific workflow system used in the manufacturing and production phases of HEP experiment construction at CERN. The CRISTAL project has studied the use of a description driven approach, using meta-modelling techniques, to manage the evolving needs of a large physics community. Interest from such diverse communities as bio-informatics and manufacturing has motivated the CRISTAL team to re-engineer the system to customize functionality according to end user requirements but maximize software reuse in the process. The next generation CRISTAL vision is to build a generic component architecture from which a complete software product line can be generated according to the particular needs of the target enterprise. We report a detection of the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) feature in the three-dimensional correlation function of the transmitted flux fraction in the Lyα forest of high-redshift quasars. The study uses 48 640 quasars in the redshift range 2.1 ⩽ z ⩽ 3.5 from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) of the third generation of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-III). At a mean redshift z = 2.3, we measure the monopole and quadrupole components of the correlation function for separations in the range 20 h
-1 Mpc < r < 200 h-1 Mpc. A peak in the correlation function is seen at a separation equal to (1.01 ± 0.03) times the distance expected for the BAO peak within a concordance ∧CDM cosmology. This first detection of the BAO peak at high redshift, when the universe was strongly matter dominated, results in constraints on the angular diameter distance DA and the expansion rate H at z = 2.3 that, combined with priors on H0 and the baryon density, require the existence of dark energy. Combined with constraints derived from cosmic microwave background observations, this result implies H(z = 2.3) = (224 ± 8) km s-1 Mpc-1 , indicating that the time derivative of the cosmological scale parameter a = H(z = 2.3)/(1 + z) is significantly greater than that measured with BAO at z ∼ 0.5. This demonstrates that the expansion was decelerating in the range 0.7 < z < 2.3, as expected from the matter domination during this epoch. Combined with measurements of H0 , one sees the pattern of deceleration followed by acceleration characteristic of a dark-energy dominated universe. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published
