As the technical knowledge base of medical informatics has rapidly advanced, voices have been raised concerned that the use of these technical advances during clinical encounters between physicians and their patients could have a dehumanizing effect upon the physician-patient relationship. To assess the validity of these fears, this paper contains a review of the body of knowledge that presently exists concerning the effects of physician use of computers during clinical encounters upon the physician-patient relationship.

The article presents a case study on an outdoor advertising developed by a radio station of Fargo, North Dakota which showed a woman in a provocative scene promoting the objectification of women and raised several ethical issues. It focuses on the practical problems of dealing with such issues which involve media ethics as well as business ethics. The article discusses the importance of moral reasoning and awareness to ethical issues in highlighting and overcoming the ethical problems.
