National audience; L'ontologie SAREF (Smart Applications REFerence Ontology) est à l'honneur de l'ETSI IoT Conférence 2023. Elle est développée à l'ETSI pour contribuer à la stratégie européenne en matière de données.Lors de l'ETSI IoT Conférence, qui se tient du 4 jusqu’au 6 juillet dans les locaux de l'Institut européen des normes de télécommunications (ETSI) à Sophia-Antipolis, plusieurs présentations porteront sur l'ontologie SAREF, qui est une contribution de l'ETSI à l'interopérabilité sémantique sur les espaces européens des données.

International audience; The Web is a decentralised system where each Web server can serve a set of URIs that identify resources. Each resource can be associated with one or more representations. This promotes content negotiation, which is the mechanism by which a Web client can request a resource representation that satisfies a set of constraints. This is also true in the Semantic Web, since when resources are described, different vocabularies are used (e.g. Schema.org and FOAF), and when they are served in the Web, they are serialised in different formats (e.g. text/turtle and application/rdf+xml). In this context, HTTP provides the means to negotiate representations using media types, and semantic validation languages (e.g. SHACL) could be used to define the constraints that knowledge graphs must conform to. If a resource was only identified by a single URI (as it would be the case with unique names assumption), it would mean that all representations would be present on one and only one server. This implies that one would be able to negotiate all representations of a resource with that server. However, this is not possible in the actual Web, because Web standards do not assume unique names and representations are scattered and distributed in different places. Still, a URI can only be served by one server, so in general, several servers should be consulted to get all representations of a resource. Consequently, when we negotiate with a Web server, we only consider a subset of all existing representations. In this article, we propose an approach to perform content negotiation even when representations are dispersed and present in multiple locations. We focus on this specific data management solution by leveraging equivalence links, which consists of querying the Web of Data with Content Negotiation, involving on-the-fly SHACL shape validation. To this end, we provide two algorithms, the first in a basic context (i.e. considering only media type constraints) and the second in a semantic context (i.e. also considering SHACL shapes). An implementation of the algorithms as well as separate experiments were conducted to measure the benefits and assess the time requirements of such methods. The conclusion is that utilising equivalence links (such as owl:sameAs) present in knowledge graphs enables more effective content negotiation of Web resources by allowing the discovery, validation and serving of representations stored in a distributed manner.

International audience; Resources on the Web are identified by Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs), and can be accessed using web protocols such as HTTP. A resource can have several representations varying along a set of dimensions, forming a set of variants. Content negotiation (CN) is the mechanism for selecting the appropriate variant that conforms to a set of preferences (constraints). Over the years, various dimensions of CN, styles of CN, as well as ways to convey constraints have emerged to satisfy new requirements and solve new use cases. This demo presents a new resource called Content Negotiation Theoretical Framework (CNTF): a website that collects knowledge about CN use cases, styles, dimensions, etc., and organises it according to an ontology. CNTF aims to highlight existing solutions, if available, or suggest plausible ways to satisfy common requirements. It is intended to be used to disseminate our future proposals for advancing CN, making it a sustainable and up-to-date digital survey of CN.

Resources on the Web are identified by uniform resource identifiers (URIs). Each resource can have several representations describing it, which we call variants. A user (client) wanting a particular representation of that resource makes a request to its URI along with a set of constraints. Content negotiation is the process by which a server matches the client’s preferences to the set of variants of the resource. For a long time, media type and language were the primary constraints that differentiated the variants. Later, variants were created to represent different evolving versions over time of the resource with the same media type and language. Furthermore, today, with the use of semantic web technologies, especially RDF, a resource can be described using multiple vocabularies and ontologies and adhering to different web ontology language profiles. A finer negotiation of the content is therefore necessary, and the server response must be flexible, especially to answer a request if no representation perfectly validates all the constraints. In this work, we present the challenges associated with solving the fine-grained content negotiation problem in a heterogeneous web environment. We present our research questions to solve this problem and the proposed hypotheses. Finally, we describe our methodology, including an evaluation plan, and provide preliminary results obtained and the direction we plan to take, Les ressources sur le Web sont identifiées par des identificateurs uniformes de ressources (URI). Chaque ressource peut avoir plusieurs représentations la décrivant, que nous appelons variantes. Un utilisateur (client) souhaitant une représentation particulière de cette ressource fait une requête à son URI avec un ensemble de contraintes. La négociation de contenu (NC) est le processus par lequel un serveur fait correspondre les préférences du client à l’ensemble des variantes de la ressource. Pendant longtemps, le type de média et la langue étaient les principales contraintes qui différenciaient les variantes. Plus tard, des variantes ont été créées pour représenter différentes versions évolutives dans le temps de la ressource avec le même type de média et la même langue. De plus, aujourd’hui, avec l’utilisation des technologies du web sémantique, notamment RDF, une ressource peut être décrite à l’aide de plusieurs vocabulaires et ontologies et en adhérant à différents profils de langage d’ontologie web. Une négociation plus fine de contenu est donc nécessaire, et la réponse du serveur doit être flexible, notamment pour répondre à une requête si aucune représentation ne valide parfaitement toutes les contraintes. Dans ce travail, nous présentons les défis associés à la résolution du problème de la négociation fine de contenu dans un environnement web hétérogène. Nous présentons nos questions de recherche pour résoudre ce problème et les hypothèses proposées. Enfin, nous décrivons notre méthodologie, y compris un plan d’évaluation, et fournissons les résultats préliminaires obtenus et la direction que nous envisageons de prendre.

International audience; The openness and accessibility of the Web has contributedgreatly to its worldwide adoption. Uniform ResourceIdentifier (URI) is the cornerstone of resource identificationon the Web. A resource on the Web can be describedin many ways. The large number of ways to describea resource can make it difficult for a user to find an adequaterepresentation. This situation has motivated fruitfulresearch on content negotiation (CN) to satisfy user requirementsefficiently and effectively. We focus on the topic ofCN, and our goal is to present a comprehensive state ofthe art that includes (1) identifying the characteristics ofCN scenarios (styles, dimensions, and means of conveyingconstraints), (2) comparing and classifying some existingcontributions, (3) identifying use cases that the current stateof CN struggles to address, (4) suggesting research directionsfor future work. The results of the state of the art showthat the problem of CN is relevant and far from being solved.; L'ouverture et l'accessibilité du Web a largement contribué à son adoption à l'échelle mondiale. L'identifiant uniforme de ressource (URI) est la pierre angulaire de l'identification des ressources sur le Web. Une ressource sur le Web peut être décrite de nombreuses façons, ce qui peut rendre difficile pour un utilisateur de trouver une représentation adéquate. Cela a motivé une recherche fructueuse sur la négociation de contenu (NC) afin de satisfaire les besoins de l'utilisateur de manière efficace. Notre objectif de recherche est de présenter un état de l'art qui inclut (1) une identification des caractéristiques des scénarios de la NC (styles, dimensions et moyens de transmission des contraintes), (2) une comparaison et une classification de quelques contributions existantes, (3) des cas d'utilisation pas encore couverts dans l'état de l'art, (4) une suggestion de directions de recherche pour les travaux futurs. Les résultats de l'état de l'art montrent que le problème de la NC est pertinent et loin d'être résolu.

Software engineering has always had a strong influence in ontology engineering. This article aims to identify these influences for some of the major themes of modern software engineering : 1. Requirements engineering ; 2. Software development life cycle models ; 3. Modularization ; 4. Patterns; 5. Development environments ; 6. Version naming ; 7. Version control and editing workflow; 8. Automation ; 9. Continuous Integration and Deployment. For each theme we identify work in the field of ontology engineering that relates to it, and provide lessons learned from our work on the specification of the ETSI Smart Applications REFerence ontology (SAREF) development framework and workflow, and development of the Community SAREF Portal for user engagement, L'ingénierie logicielle a toujours eu une grande influence dans l'ingénierie des ontologies. Cet article a pour objectif d'identifier ces influences pour certains des grands thèmes de l'ingénierie logicielle moderne : 1. Ingénierie des besoins ; 2. Modèles de cycle de vie du développement logiciel ; 3. Modularisation ; 4. Patrons ; 5. Environnements de développement ; 6. Nommage des versions ; 7. Contrôle des versions et workflow d'édition ; 8. Automatisation ; 9. Intégration et déploiement continu. Pour chaque thème nous identifions des travaux du domaine de l'ingénierie des ontologies qui s'y rapportent, et apportons un retour d'expérience de notre travail de spécification du cadre de développement et du flux de travail de l'ontologie ETSI Smart Applications REFerence (SAREF), et développement du portail communautaire SAREF.

International audience; Hypermedea is an extension of the JaCaMo multi-agent programming framework to act on Web and Web of Things environments. It includes 4 main components: (1) a Linked Data component to discover statements (as RDF triples) about some Web environment, (2) an ontology component to infer implicit statements from discovered ones, (3) a planner to reason over the consequences of an agent’s actions in the environment and (4) a protocol binding component that turns high-level actions into low-level protocol-specific network operations. Hypermedea is evaluated in terms of performances of the Linked Data navigation and planning components, which both encapsulate computation-intensive algorithms.

In a document-based world as the one of Web APIs, the triple-based output of SPARQL endpoints can be a barrier for developers who want to integrate Linked Data in their applications. A different JSON output can be obtained with SPARQL Transformer, which relies on a single JSON object for defining which data should be extracted from the endpoint and which shape should they assume. We propose a new approach that amounts to merge SPARQL bindings on the base of identifiers and the integration in the grlc API framework to create new bridges between the Web of Data and the Web of applications.

Knowledge graphs are crucial assets for tasks like query answering or data integration. These tasks can be viewed as reasoning problems, which in turn require efficient reasoning systems to be implemented. To this end, we present VLog, a rule-based reasoner designed to satisfy the requirements of modern use cases, with a focus on performance and adaptability to different scenarios. We address the former with a novel vertical storage layout, and the latter by abstracting the access to data sources and providing a platform-independent Java API. Features of VLog include fast Datalog materialisation, support for reasoning with existential rules, stratified negation, and data integration from a variety of sources, such as high-performance RDF stores, relational databases, CSV files, OWL ontologies, and remote SPARQL endpoints.

L’interconnexion entre les objets via internet ne cesse de se développer. Une tendance qui devrait se poursuivre dans les années à venir. Pour permettre la communication entre les machines, une des solutions réside dans le web sémantique. Explications. « Le web sémantique permet de donner aux machines un accès au web semblable à celui des humains » indique Maxime Lefrançois, chercheur en intelligence artificielle à Mines Saint-Étienne. Ce domaine du web est actuellement utilisé par les entreprises pour récolter et partager des informations, notamment auprès des utilisateurs. Cela permet d’adapter des offres de produits au profil des consommateurs par exemple. Aujourd’hui le web sémantique occupe une place importante dans les recherches menées sur l’internet des objets, c’est-à-dire l’interconnexion entre les machines et les objets connectés via internet.

International audience; Nous dressons un panorama des travaux autour du développement du jumeau numérique du bâtiment de l'Espace Fauriel de Mines Saint-Étienne. Ce projet soulève des problématiques variées en internet des objets et intelligence artificielle, tout en ayant une dimension éthique liée aux objectifs de développement durable de l'ONU (ODD 7, 11 et 13). Il est valorisé dans des enseignements, des projets étudiants, et des projets de recherche.

The first hurdle after installing VIVO is to fill it with an initial set of data about an institution, its researchers and their publications. Done manually it is a cumbersome and time-consuming process. One approach to overcome this is to use open-data containing a persistent identifier(PID) like ROR, ORCID or DOI. The advantage lies in the reduced processing of input data: since data does not need to be disambiguated, the data ingestion process can be reduced to mapping the data to the VIVO ontology. While several tools exist that are able to import one PID-identified object into VIVO, the release of Datacite Commons takes this approach to the next level. Datacite Commons offers an interface to a so-called PID-Graph: a structure of multiple connected data objects each identified by a PID. It makes queries possible that take advantage of the connections between several PIDs like e.g. querying an organization (identified by a ROR iD) and its affiliated persons (identified by their ORCID iD) and subsequently their publications (identified by a DOI), and thus providing a quick data basis for an empty Research Information System. In this talk, we will present a microservice importing data from the Datacite Commons PID-Graph and the ROR API into VIVO ( https://github.com/vivo-community/generate2vivo ). This microservice is based on lifting rules defined using the SPARQL-Generate RDF transformation language, which we will overview beforehand. SPARQL-Generate is an expressive template-based language to generate RDF streams or text streams from RDF datasets and document streams in arbitrary formats (for more information see website https://w3id.org/sparql-generate/ ), Diese Arbeit ist im Projekt TAPIR entstanden. National audience; Les journées francophones d'Ingénierie des Connaissances (IC) sont organisées chaque année depuis 1997, d'abord sous l'égide du Gracq (Groupe de Recherche en Acquisition des Connaissances) puis sous celle du collège SIC (Science de l'Ingénierie des Connaissances) de l'AFIA. Cette année encore, IC est hébergée par la plateforme PFIA, avec plusieurs autre conférences francophones dans le domaine de l'intelligence artificielle. L'ingénierie des connaissances peut être vue comme la partie de l'Intelligence Artificielle se préoccupant des connaissances selon les points de vue de la représentation, l'acquisition et l'intégration dans des environnements numériques. Sa finalité est la production de méthodes et outils « intelligents », capables d'aider l'humain dans ses activités et ses prises de décisions. La conférence Ingénierie des Connaissances réunit la communauté francophone et est un lieu d'échanges et de réflexions, de présentation et de confrontation des théories, pratiques, méthodes et outils. Cette communauté doit désormais prendre en compte l'essor des algorithmes d'apprentissage et leurs retombées sur les pratiques individuelles et collectives, tout en conservant l'humain au centre des systèmes de données et connaissances. Pour cette année 2021 de la conférence, nous avons eu l'honneur de recevoir Elena Simperl-professeure au King's College London-, qui a donné une conférence invitée intitulée « What Wikidata teaches us about knowledge engineering ? ». Concernant les contributions scientifiques, 22 articles ont été soumis. Au total 15 articles ont été acceptés et constituent le contenu de ces actes. Ces articles sont de plusieurs types. 10 articles longs présentent des contributions originales dans les thèmes de la conférence. 4 articles sont dérivés d'une publication dans les conférences et journaux internationaux du domaine, et contribuent ainsi à leur diffusion et à leur discussion dans la communauté francophone. Enfin, 1 article est un papier court. Pour la seconde fois consécutive, l'édition PFIA 2021 se déroule de manière virtuelle sur fond de pandémie de Covid-19. Nous constatons néanmoins un maintien de l'intérêt des auteurs pour diffuser leurs contributions originales à la communauté, et un maintien également de l'implication des membres du comité de programme et du comité de pilotage IC. Le résultat est une collection dans ces actes d'articles scientifiques de haute qualité, qui intègrent les commentaires de leurs quatre évaluations constructives et bienveillantes, de haute qualité également. Il nous reste à remercier chaleureusement l'ensemble des acteurs de la communauté francophone d'Ingénierie des Connaissances, et à nous souhaiter de pouvoir se réunir à nouveau en présentiel dès l'année prochaine pour l'édition 2022 de PFIA à Saint-Étienne.

Relation linking is an important problem for knowledge graph-based Question Answering. Given a natural language question and a knowledge graph, the task is to identify relevant relations from the given knowledge graph. Since existing techniques for entity extraction and linking are more stable compared to relation linking, our idea is to exploit entities extracted from the question to support relation linking. In this paper, we propose a novel approach, based on DBpedia entities, for computing relation candidates. We have empirically evaluated our approach on different standard benchmarks. Our evaluation shows that our approach significantly outperforms existing baseline systems in both recall, precision and runtime.

We propose a new end-to-end method for extending a Knowledge Graph (KG) from tables. Existing techniques tend to interpret tables by focusing on information that is already in the KG, and therefore tend to extract many redundant facts. Our method aims to find more novel facts. We introduce a new technique for table interpretation based on a scalable graphical model using entity similarities. Our method further disambiguates cell values using KG embeddings as additional ranking method. Other distinctive features are the lack of assumptions about the underlying KG and the enabling of a fine-grained tuning of the precision/recall trade-off of extracted facts. Our experiments show that our approach has a higher recall during the interpretation process than the state-of-the-art, and is more resistant against the bias observed in extracting mostly redundant facts since it produces more novel extractions.

This paper presents an empirical study aiming at understanding the modeling style and the overall semantic structure of Linked Open Data. We observe how classes, properties and individuals are used in practice. We also investigate how hierarchies of concepts are structured, and how much they are linked. In addition to discussing the results, this paper contributes (i) a conceptual framework, including a set of metrics, which generalises over the observable constructs; (ii) an open source implementation that facilitates its application to other Linked Data knowledge graphs.

Linked lists represent a countable number of ordered values, and are among the most important abstract data types in computer science. With the advent of RDF as a highly expressive knowledge representation language for the Web, various implementations for RDF lists have been proposed. Yet, there is no benchmark so far dedicated to evaluate the performance of triple stores and SPARQL query engines on dealing with ordered linked data. Moreover, essential tasks for evaluating RDF lists, like generating datasets containing RDF lists of various sizes, or generating the same RDF list using different modelling choices, are cumbersome and unprincipled. In this paper, we propose List.MID, a systematic benchmark for evaluating systems serving RDF lists. List.MID consists of a dataset generator, which creates RDF list data in various models and of different sizes; and a set of SPARQL queries. The RDF list data is coherently generated from a large, community-curated base collection of Web MIDI files, rich in lists of musical events of arbitrary length. We describe the List.MID benchmark, and discuss its impact and adoption, reusability, design, and availability.

International audience; The advent of the Web of Things as an application layer for the Internet of Things has led to widespread of Web services exposing data and functionalities of the networked objects. Since resource-oriented architectures align well with the Web of Things archi-tectures, RESTful services have been the goto interface to expose the connected devices on the Web. However, the heterogeneity of descriptions of devices and services as well as underlying IoT-level protocols has lead to a number of interoperability issues. Recently, the growing popularity of semantically-enabled Web services has led to the emergence of services described with and exchanging RDF. In this position paper, we attempt to frame the challenges encountered in enabling semantic interoperability of heterogeneous WoT services, with the help of a production line scenario. We also propose preliminary solutions to the main issues hampering the establishment of true semantic interoperability on the WoT.

International audience; L’ontologie SmartM2M SAREF (Smart Applications REFerence ontology) a pour ambition de contribuer à la transformation numérique de l’industrie en Europe, en prenant en compte les difficultés liées à l’interopérabilité sémantique sur l’Internet des Objets et les applications web. Il s'agit d'un standard de l’ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute), organisme de normalisation européen du domaine des télécommunications qui travaille à la mise en œuvre de normes et de standards autour des objets connectés, des données collectées et des applications. SAREF consiste en une ontologie noyau versionnée, et différents ontologies satellites versionnées également qui ciblent des domaines métiers comme l'énergie, l'environnement, le bâtiment, la ville intelligente, l'industrie du future, l'agriculture numérique, l'automobile, le eHealth, les wearables, la gestion de l'eau. Chacune de ces ontologies est versionnée.

International audience; The rapid advancement and ubiquitous penetration of mobile networks and software-defined networking technology enable us to sense, predict and control the physical world using information technology – the so-called Internet of Things (IoT).1 Consequently, business models and processes have been redesigned across a broad range of industries where objects are connected over the Web for communication with other objects on the Web, leading to the so-called Web of Things (WoT) on top of the IoT.Pervasive connectivity, smart personal devices, for example in our homes, and demand for data testify to a WoT that will continue to grow. New devices are being developed and are becoming cheaper, making their integration into everyday objects ever more feasible, and as people buy into WoT technology, economies of scale lend themselves to the creation of ever more data-centric businesses.

The present document presents SAREF4EHAW, an extension of SAREF for the eHealth/Ageing-well Domain.

National audience; Cet article présente le contexte et les objectifs du projet ANR nommé Constrained Semantic Webof Things (CoSWoT). CoSWoT a pour objectif de proposer une architecture logicielle distribuée compatibleWoT et embarquée sur des dispositifs contraints. Cette architecture a deux caractéristiques principales :(1) elle utilisera des modèles de connaissances à base de graphes pour déclarer la logique applicative desdispositifs et la sémantique des messages échangés ; (2) les dispositifs auront des capacités de raisonnementafin de répartir les tâches de traitement entre eux. Le développement d’applications WoT sera simplifié :notre plateforme permettra le développement et l’exécution d’applications intelligentes et décentralisées duWoT malgré l’hétérogénéité des dispositifs connectés. La plateforme proposée sera testée sur plusieurs casd’utilisation dans le bâtiment intelligent et en agriculture numérique.

International audience; SPARQL-Generate est un langage de transformation de RDF qui permet d’interroger des jeux de données RDF et des flux de documents dans des formats hétérogènes, pour générer du RDF ou du texte. La version actuelle de SPARQL-Generate permet d’exprimer des requêtes depuis tout type de CSV, JSON, HTML, GeoJSON, CBOR (version binaire de JSON), ou encore des flux de messages WebSocket ou MQTT.SPARQL-Generate est utilisé dans de nombreux cas d’utilisation, notamment: génération de linked data à partir de flux de documents; génération de linked data à partir de gros documents; transformation de jeux de données RDF; génération d’une ontologie à partir de documents; génération de documentation d’ontologies. Le langage intègre différentes astuces syntaxiques facilitant la déclaration de transformations de documents en RDF, incluant (1) l’identification des documents sources, (2) la sélection itérative de sous-parties de ces documents, (3) des IRIs et littéraux à variables, (4) l’appel à des requêtes externes, (5) la génération de listes RDF. Il inclue une sous-partie du langage de transformation STTL (SPARQL-Template), qui permet également de générer du texte. De plus, Étant une extension de SPARQL 1.1, le langage présente également les avantages suivants: Ceux qui sont familiers de SPARQL peuvent apprendre facilement SPARQL-Generate. SPARQL-Generate bénéficie de l’expressivité de SPARQL 1.1: agrégats, modificateurs de séquences de solutions, fonctions SPARQL et mécanisme d’extension. SPARQL-Generate s’intègre naturellement avec les standards existants pour consommer le Web des données, comme SPARQL ou les frameworks de programmation Web Sémantique. L’implémentation, basée sur Jena et disponible sous licence Apache 2.0, est utilisable sur un site internet de démonstration, en ligne de commande, ou sous forme de librairie Java.

International audience; This paper is co-authored by an informal group of experts from a broad range of backgrounds, all of whom are active in standards groups, consortia, alliances and/or research projects in the Internet of Things (IoT) space. This paper has two objectives: 1) explain the need for semantic interoperability, 2) provide recommendations for semantic interoperability standards using ontologies. The target audience for this paper are: ● IoT system product owners who need to understand how they can effectively ensure interoperability of their products. ● IoT system and standardization engineers without background in semantic technologies. International audience; Semantic technologies have recently gained significant support in a number of communities, in particular the IoT community. An important problem to be solved is that, on the one hand, it is clear that the value of IoT increases significantly with the availability of information from a wide variety of domains. On the other hand, existing solutions target specific applications or application domains and there is no easy way of sharing information between the resulting silos. Thus, a solution is needed to enable interoperability across information silos. As there is a huge heterogeneity regarding IoT technologies on the lower levels, the semantic level is seen as a promising approach for achieving interoperability (i.e. semantic interoperability) to unify IoT device description, data, bring common interaction, data exploration, etc.
