The present study includes an Motivational Interviewing-Existential Psychotherapy (MI–EP) group counseling program development and assessment of its effectiveness for college students having depressive symptoms. The program, consisting of 8 sessions over 4 weeks, was developed based on MI–EP to reduce depression and enhance a sense of meaning in life. The analysis, using a quasi-experimental design, demonstrated a significant decrease in depression of the experimental group. The sense of meaning in life was higher in the experimental group than in the control group. These results remained persistent during the follow-up test period, extending one-month post-treatment. The theoretical implications for the development and effectiveness verification of the MI–EP group counseling program were discussed, and suggestions were made for further research. Psychosocial adaptation is important for individuals with disabilities as they strive for optimal quality of life (QOL). However, studies applying the psychosocial model in South Korea are limited. Our study especially focused on identifying the relationship between stress, disability acceptance, and QOL among people with physical disabilities. Stress by disability can act as an antecedent event and a risk factor, while disability acceptance serves as a process that promotes positive QOL within the framework of the psychosocial adaptation. So, this study investigates whether disability acceptance mediates the relationship between stress and QOL in South Korea. The study used the 2021 Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled in Korea data. A total of 1,872 participants (68.9% male; M = 50.02 years) were included. Results from the regression model through PROCESS Macro in SPSS revealed that disability stress is partially negatively related to QOL. The indirect path of stress, disability acceptance, and QOL was also significant, indicating that disability acceptance is a significant mediator of the relationship between stress and QOL. Especially, individuals with physical disabilities who experience high levels of stress on their disabilities are more likely to have a lower QOL. This association is partially due to decreased disability acceptance. This study is significant because it applied the psychosocial adaptation model to individuals with physical disabilities in South Korea, providing empirical validation of its effectiveness. Previous studies have attempted to identify factors that explain the effect of problem drinking onto both depression and suicidal ideation. Problem drinking, depression, and suicide ideation are associated, but the mechanism(s) explaining this association is underdefined in the current research landscape. For this reason, the present study is vital in expanding the understanding of these associations. The proposed study explored the interplay between problem drinking and depressive symptoms including suicide ideation. Drawing on the Interpersonal Theory of Suicide (ITOS), two interpersonal constructs (i.e., thwarted belongingness [TB] and perceived burdensomeness [PB]) were considered as mediators. It was hypothesized that problem drinking would contribute to greater depressive symptoms and suicide ideation as well through TB and PB. Participants with a history of drinking (N = 539; 43% female; M = 39.47 years, SD = 12.49) were recruited via Amazon's Mechanical Turk and completed an online survey that included Problem Drinking, TB and PB, Depression and Suicide Ideation. Depression and suicide ideation were measured using the PHQ, which contains a single item assessing suicide ideation. Results from structural equation modeling partially supported the hypotheses in that problem drinking is significantly associated with depression and suicide ideation through PB. However, problem drinking was not associated with TB indicating that TB does not account for the effect of problem drinking onto either depression or suicide ideation. This preliminary study extends prior findings with specific interpersonal constructs and has implications that provide groundwork for future research and clinical application for social aspects of drinking.
