Background: Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) can be considered as the preclinical manifestation of Alzheimer's disease. The objective of this study was to examine whether there would be differences of the clinical correlates due to evidence of subtle cognitive imparment (SCI) in inividuals with SCD. Method: One‐hundred‐and‐fifty‐five individuals with SCD (mean age: 68.18 ± 8.09 years) were included in this study. The participants underwent clinical assessments and completed detailed neuropsychological tests. The functional assessment was performed by the Korean Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) scale. Memory complaints were assessed using the Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire (PRMQ) consisting of 16 items that describe everyday memory failure. Result: SCD individuals with SCI (n = 20) had lower Mini‐Mental State Examination scores and showed lower performances in the neuropsychological tests than the SCD only group (n = 135). In addition, the SCI group had worse IADL performance than the SCD only group. There were no differenes in depressive symptoms and PRMQ scores between two groups. Conclusion: In SCD individuals, SCI was associated with subtle IADL deficits, but not with the severity of self‐reported memory complaints, compared to the SCD only group. Background: The diagnostic relevance of subjective memory complaints (SMCs) in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) remains to be unresolved. The aim of this study is to determine clinical correlates of SMCs in MCI. Furthermore, we examined whether there are the differences due to different aspects of complaints (i.e. prospective memory (PM) versus retrospective memory (RM) complaints).Methods: We examined the cross-sectional associations between SMCs and depressive symptoms, instrumental activities of daily living (IADL), and cognitive measures in sixty-six individuals with MCI (mean age: 65.7 ± 8.01 years). The criteria for MCI included SMCs, objective cognitive impairment, normal general cognitive function, largely intact functional activities, and absence of dementia. SMCs were assessed using the Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire (PRMQ), which contains 16 items describing everyday memory failure of both PM and RM.Results: SMC severity (i.e. PRMQ total score) was associated with stronger depressive symptoms and worse IADL performance. SMCs were not related to cognitive measures. For PM and RM subscores, both depressive symptoms and IADL were related to the PRMQ-PM and -RM scores. The main contributors to these PM and RM scores were depressive symptoms and IADL impairment, respectively.Conclusions: This study suggests that SMCs are more associated with depressive symptoms and IADL problems than with cognitive performance in individuals with MCI. Furthermore, while PM and RM complaints are related to both depressive symptoms and IADL, the differences between these main contributors suggest that RM complaints based on IADL could be more associated with the organically driven pathological features of MCI. In this work, we present an innovative and atom-efficient synthesis of trimethine cyanines (Cy3) using formaldehyde (FA) as a single-carbon reagent. The widespread application of Cy3 dyes in bioimaging and genomics/proteomics is often limited by synthetic routes plagued with low atom economy and substantial side-product formation. Through systematic investigation, we have developed a practical and efficient synthetic pathway for both symmetric and asymmetric Cy3 derivatives, significantly minimizing resource utilization. Notably, this approach yields water as the byproduct, in alignment with sustainable chemistry principles. Moreover, the efficient one-pot synthesis facilitates the detection of intracellular FA levels, utilizing the fluorescence signal of Cy3 in live cells. It is also possible to detect the endogenous FA in the intestinal tissues. We observed a significant decrease of FA in the small intestine of the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) mice compared to the healthy mice. This methodological advancement not only enhances the scope of fluorescent dye synthesis but also contributes to the sustainable practices within chemical manufacturing, offering a significant leap forward in the development of environmentally friendly synthetic strategies., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)
