The bandgap is a fundamental property inherent to semiconductor materials such as silicon (Si) and germanium (Ge), determining their electronic and optical properties. Furthermore, combining Si and Ge allows for the potential to manipulate the optical and electronic properties of mixed materials. Various synthetic methods for Si/Ge nanoparticles (NPs) have been investigated, and there is a need to develop a simpler method for Si/Ge NP synthesis. We present a modified one-pot synthesis method to fabricate n-butyl Si/Ge NPs using a streamlined, room-temperature process that excludes surfactants. Ge–Ge, Ge–Si, and Si–Si optical phonons were exhibited by n-butyl-Si/Ge NPs at 285, 400, and 485cm−1, respectively, in Raman analysis. The Si-to-Ge ratios of the n-butyl-Si/Ge NPs ranged from 0.40:0.60 to 0.47:0.53 according to high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis. The PL spectrum (λem = 445nm) of n-butyl-Si/Ge NPs closely resembled those of Ge NPs (λem = 438nm); this result is discussed in relation to those obtained from reported theoretical calculations. Background: Clustering lifestyle risk behaviors is important for predicting cardiovascular disease risk. However, it is unclear which behavior mediates other ones to influence cardiovascular disease risk. We aimed to assess the causal inference of each lifestyle risk behavior for the atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk of the general population. Methods: We performed a Bayesian network mediation analysis using data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2014 to 2019. The main exposure was a combination of lifestyle risk behaviors including unhealthy weight, heavy alcohol consumption, inadequate sleep, physical inactivity, excessive sodium intake, and current smoking among subjects 40 to 79 years of age. The high risk of ASCVD (≥7.5% for the 10-year risk) was assessed using logistic regression, Bayesian networks, and structural equational models to examine the causal relationships between these six lifestyle risk behaviors. Results: Among all participants, the most prevalent lifestyle risk behavior for those at high risk for ASCVD was excessive sodium intake (95.6%), followed by inadequate sleep (49.9%) and physical inactivity (43.8%). Older age (65–79 years) and male sex were directly associated with a high risk for ASCVD. Physical inactivity, current smoking, excessive sodium intake, and unhealthy weight indirectly mediated the effects of older age (8.2% of the older age) and male sex (39.9% of males) to high ASCVD risk. Physical inactivity, current smoking, excessive sodium intake, and unhealthy weight particularly mediated the high ASCVD risk sequentially. Heavy alcohol consumption and inadequate sleep were not directly associated with high ASCVD risk and did not indirectly mediate the effects of older age and males on the high ASCVD risk. Conclusion: Lifestyle risk behaviors mediated the atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk in a different manner. Especially, physical inactivity preceded current smoking, excessive sodium intake, and unhealthy weight in relation to high ASCVD risk, and this causal relationship was different according to age and sex. Purpose: The aim of this study is to identify the key functional care problems, NANDA‐I nursing diagnoses, and intervention plans related to function‐focused care (FFC) using a web‐based case management system for patients who present different cognitive status. Methods: This study employed a retrospective descriptive research design. Data were obtained from system records on patients after the research team trained the case management system at a nursing home in Dangjin in South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. A total of 119 inpatient records were analyzed. Results: The key physical, cognitive, and social functional problems, nursing diagnoses in six domains (health promotion, elimination and exchange, activity/rest, perception/cognition, coping/stress tolerance, and safety/protection), and intervention plans were identified. Conclusion: The identified FFC case management information of interdisciplinary caregivers will provide evidence for the implementation of effective interventions according to a patient's functional status. Additional studies related to the establishment of a large clinical database of advanced case management systems focusing on interdisciplinary caregivers' functional management are needed to support the prioritization of functional care. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease influenced by a complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors. The activation of the JAK-STAT pathway increases the expression of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-4 and IL-13, further deteriorating AD. Therefore, for the treatment of AD, the JAK-STAT pathway is emerging as a significant target, alongside inflammatory cytokines. This study investigates the potential therapeutic effects of a novel herbal complex, LK5, composed of Scutellaria baicalensis, Liriope platyphylla, Sophora flavescens, Dictammus dasycarpus, and Phellodendron schneider, known for their anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating properties. We examined the anti-inflammatory and anti-AD effects of the LK5 herbal complex in HaCaT cells stimulated by LPS and IL-4/IL-13, as well as in a mouse model of AD induced by DNCB. In HaCaT cells stimulated with LPS or IL-4/IL-13, the LK5 herbal complex demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the expression of inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β, and downregulating the phosphorylation of STAT proteins. In a murine AD-like model induced by DNCB, administration of the LK5 herbal complex significantly ameliorated clinical symptoms, including dermatitis, ear thickness, and TEWL. Histological analysis revealed a reduction in epidermal thickness and mast cell infiltration. The LK5 herbal complex also inhibited pruritus induced by compound 48/80. Furthermore, the LK5 herbal complex treatment significantly decreased the levels of inflammatory cytokines such as TSLP, IL-6, and IgE in plasma and ear tissue of AD-induced mice. These findings suggest that the LK5 herbal complex may modulate the immune response and alleviate AD symptoms by inhibiting STAT pathways. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes a resource-efficient keyword spotting (KWS) system based on a convolutional neural network (CNN). The end-to-end KWS process is performed based solely on 1D-CNN inference, where features are first extracted from a few convolutional blocks, and then the keywords are classified using a few fully connected blocks. The 1D-CNN model is binarized to reduce resource usage, and its inference is executed by employing a dedicated engine. This engine is designed to skip redundant operations, enabling high inference speed despite its low complexity. The proposed system is implemented using 6895 ALUTs in an Intel Cyclone V FPGA by integrating the essential components for performing the KWS process. In the system, the latency required to process a frame is 22 ms, and the spotting accuracy is 91.80% in an environment where the signal-to-noise ratio is 10 dB for Google speech commands dataset version 2.
