The Pohang Accelerator Laboratory X‐ray Free‐Electron Laser (PAL‐XFEL) operates hard X‐ray and soft X‐ray beamlines for conducting scientific experiments providing intense ultrashort X‐ray pulses based on the self‐amplified spontaneous emission (SASE) process. The X‐ray free‐electron laser is characterized by strong pulse‐to‐pulse fluctuations resulting from the SASE process. Therefore, online photon diagnostics are very important for rigorous measurements. The concept of photo‐absorption and emission using solid materials is seldom considered in soft X‐ray beamline diagnostics. Instead, gas monitoring detectors, which utilize the photo‐ionization of noble gas, are employed for monitoring the beam intensity. To track the beam position at the soft X‐ray beamline in addition to those intensity monitors, an X‐ray ionization beam position monitor (XIBPM) has been developed and characterized at the soft X‐ray beamline of PAL‐XFEL. The XIBPM utilizes ionization of either the residual gas in an ultra‐high‐vacuum environment or injected krypton gas, along with a microchannel plate with phosphor. The XIBPM was tested separately for monitoring horizontal and vertical beam positions, confirming the feasibility of tracking relative changes in beam position both on average and down to single‐shot measurements. This study investigates the effects of rotor–rotor interaction on the wake and thrust characteristics of a small tandem rotor operating in a crosswind. Flow velocity and force measurements were conducted in a wind tunnel with two rotors arranged parallel to a crosswind. The results show that the rotor–rotor interaction significantly influences the wake characteristics and thrust generations of the tandem rotor and its effects vary depending on the crosswind speed and distance between rotor tips. In the tandem rotor configuration, the front rotor wake prevents the crosswind flow from reaching the rear rotor wake, thereby reducing the crosswind influence on it. However, under the strong rotor–rotor interaction, such as that caused by high crosswind speeds and short distances between rotor tips, the wakes of both rotors collide with each other and rapidly break down as they proceed downward. Tip-vortex characteristics are also affected by rotor–rotor interaction, which is investigated in terms of variations in the time-averaged tip-vortex trajectory and dissipation ratio with the strength of rotor–rotor interaction. These wake variations by rotor–rotor interaction lead to a decrease in thrust coefficients of the front and rear rotors, with a more significant reduction observed for the rear rotor. The thrust of the rear rotor is more significantly reduced as the crosswind speed increases and the distance between rotor tips narrows. Ocular neuropathic pain (ONP) has various etiologies, and patients have various symptoms. The clinical management of patients with ONP has been debated. We aimed to evaluate the effect of repeated greater occipital nerve block (GONB) on ONP based on convergence in the trigeminocervical complex. In this single-center retrospective study, the medical records of 204 patients who were referred to the pain clinic by the ophthalmology department of our hospital and subsequently underwent repeated GONB for chronic ONP between January 2008 and February 2022 were analyzed. They received GONB every two weeks, up to 10 times. Symptoms of ONP were divided into five categories: eye pain, dysesthesias/allodynia, non-eye pain, visual disturbance, and tearing. The primary outcome of this study was the pain relief scale (PRS) score after repeated injections. The differences and magnitude of decrease in the overall pain relief scale score were statistically significant (estimate = −0.55, p < 0.001). There were two patients who had recurrence of ONP and seven patients who had adverse events. According to our study, repeated GONB can reduce symptom severity in patients with ONP. Therefore, it appears that GONB can be considered a multimodal management method for ONP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

On March 25th 2019, the Belle II detector recorded the first collisions delivered by the SuperKEKB accelerator. This marked the beginning of the physics run with vertex detector. The vertex detector was aligned initially with cosmic ray tracks without magnetic field simultaneously with the drift chamber. The alignment method is based on Millepede II and the General Broken Lines track model and includes also the muon system or primary vertex position alignment. To control weak modes, we employ sensitive validation tools and various track samples can be used as alignment input, from straight cosmic tracks to mass-constrained decays. With increasing luminosity and experience, the alignment is approaching the target performance, crucial for the first physics analyses in the era of Super-BFactories. We will present the software framework for the detector calibration and alignment, the results from the first physics run and the prospects in view of the experience with the first data.

The Belle II experiment features a substantial upgrade of the Belle detector and will operate at the SuperKEKB energy-asymmetric e+e− collider at KEK in Tsukuba, Japan. The accelerator completed its first phase of commissioning in 2016, and the Belle II detector saw its first electron-positron collisions in April 2018. Belle II features a newly designed silicon vertex detector based on double-sided strip layers and DEPFET pixel layers. A subset of the vertex detector was operated in 2018 to determine background conditions (Phase 2 operation). The collaboration completed full detector installation in January 2019, and the experiment started full data taking. This paper will report on the final arrangement of the silicon vertex detector part of Belle II with a focus on online monitoring of detector conditions and data quality, on the design and use of diagnostic and reference plots, and on integration with the software framework of Belle II. Data quality monitoring plots will be discussed with a focus on simulation and acquired cosmic and collision data.

Because all career choices are about future actions, time is an important contextual variable in social cognitive career choice (Hesketh, 2000). However, there is a dearth of research examining the effect of time. The authors examined how temporal distance to career entry influences the perceived importance of self-efficacy and outcome expectations concerning a career pursuit. They also examined the moderating effects of perceived support and barriers, as well as country. The participants were college students in the United States (n= 180) and in South Korea (n= 215). The results of hierarchical regression analyses did not show main effects of time, but a 3-way interaction indicated the complex interplay of time and other contextual variables. Implications for career counseling and future research are discussed. (Contains 3 tables.)

As gender roles in the society are being rapidly redefined, female students today are showing outstanding academic prowess and pursuing higher education. The current study recruited Korean international students (n = 76) enrolled in universities in the US and examined gender differences in academic adjustment. The findings of the current study suggested that female "alpha psychology" might apply to international students' adjustment. Korean female students showed a higher level of adjustment than males. English proficiency was a positive predictor of adjustment. The number of Korean students in the same major was significantly and positively related to male international students' adjustment but not significantly related to female students' adjustment.

Korean students reported higher instructor decision authority and lower levels of instructor verbal and nonverbal immediacy in Korean classrooms than in US classrooms. Verbal immediacy was positively related to the satisfaction of Korean students in the US, whereas it was not significantly related to the satisfaction of Korean students in Korea. Korean students studying in the US indicated lower satisfaction when their perceived levels of instructor decision authority were lower than their expected levels of instructor decision authority, compared to when their perceived levels were higher than their expected levels.
