The triangular lattice antiferromagnet (TLAF) has been the standard paradigm of frustrated magnetism for several decades. The most common magnetic ordering in insulating TLAFs is the 120 structure. However, a new triple-Q chiral ordering can emerge in metallic TLAFs, representing the short wavelength limit of magnetic skyrmion crystals. We report the metallic TLAF Co1/3TaS2 as the first example of tetrahedral triple-Q magnetic ordering with the associated topological Hall effect (non-zero {\sigma}_{xy}(H=0)). We also present a theoretical framework that describes the emergence of this magnetic ground state, which is further supported by the electronic structure measured by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Additionally, our measurements of the inelastic neutron scattering cross section are consistent with the calculated dynamical structure factor of the tetrahedral triple-Q state., Comment: 23 pages, 4 figures, SI not included. Kitaev physics has recently attracted attention in condensed matter for its anticipated novel quantum spin liquid state. The thermal transport measurement is crucial for probing the novel features of charge-neutral quasiparticles. In this letter, we report a significant thermal Hall effect in $Na_2Co_2TeO_6$ (NCTO), a Kitaev quantum spin liquid candidate, when the magnetic field is applied along the out-of-plane direction of the honeycomb plane. The thermal conductivity ($\kappa_{xx}$) and thermal Hall conductivity ($\kappa_{xy}$) in NCTO reveal distinct magnetic field dependences below and above the Neel temperature ($T_N$) of 27 K. For $T>T_N$, $\kappa_{xx}$ has a monotonic decrease in the field dependence, while $\kappa_{xy}$ persists up to $T^*$ = 150 K. On the other hand, both $\kappa_{xx}$ and $\kappa_{xy}$ exhibit complex field dependence for $T

Combining magnetism with band topology provides various novel phases that are otherwise impossible. Among several cases, noncollinear metallic antiferromagnets can reveal particularly rich topological physics due to their diverse magnetic ground states. However, there are only a few experimental studies due to the lack of suitable materials, especially with triangular lattice antiferromagnets. Here, we report that metallic triangular antiferromagnet Co1/3TaS2 exhibits a substantial anomalous Hall effect (AHE) related to its noncollinear magnetic order. Our first-principles calculations found that hourglass Weyl fermions from the non-symmorphic symmetry trigger AHE. We further show that AHE in Co1/3TaS2 can be characterized by the toroidal moment, a vortex-like multipole component that arises from a combination of chiral lattice and geometrical frustration. Finally, the unusual field-tunability of the toroidal moment puts Co1/3TaS2 as a rare example of a noncollinear metallic antiferromagnet filled with interesting magnetic and topological properties., Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures, Accepted for publication in npj Quantum Materials

Recently, unconventional superconductivity having a zero-bias conductance peak is reported in doped topological Dirac semimetal (DSM) with lattice distortion. Motivated by the experiments, we theoretically study the possible symmetry-lowering lattice distortions and their effects on the emergence of unconventional superconductivity in doped topological DSM. We find four types of symmetry-lowering lattice distortions that reproduce the crystal symmetries relevant to experiments from the group-theoretical analysis. Considering inter-orbital and intra-orbital electron density-density interactions, we calculate superconducting phase diagrams. We find that the lattice distortions can induce unconventional superconductivity hosting gapless surface Andreev bound states (SABS). Depending on the lattice distortions and superconducting pairing interactions, the unconventional inversion-odd-parity superconductivity can be either topological nodal superconductivity hosting a flat SABS or topological crystalline superconductivity hosting a gapless SABS. Remarkably, the lattice distortions increase the superconducting critical temperature, which is consistent with the experiments. Novel effects induced by nonmagnetic impurities in frustrated magnets and quantum spin liquid represent a highly nontrivial and interesting problem. A theoretical proposal of extended modulated spin structures induced by doping of such magnets, distinct from the well-known skyrmions has attracted significant interest. Here, we demonstrate that nonmagnetic impurities can produce such extended spin structures in h-YMnO3, a triangular antiferromagnet with noncollinear magnetic order. Using inelastic neutron scattering (INS), we measured the full dynamical structure factor in Al-doped h-YMnO3 and confirmed the presence of magnon damping with a clear momentum dependence. Our theoretical calculations can reproduce the key features of the INS data, supporting the formation of the proposed spin textures. As such, our study provides the first experimental confirmation of the impurity-induced spin textures. With the advanced investigations into low-dimensional systems, it has become essential to find materials having interesting lattices that can be exfoliated down to monolayer. One particular important structure is a kagome lattice with its potentially diverse and vibrant physics. We report a van-der-Waals kagome lattice material, Pd3P2S8, with several unique properties such as an intriguing flat band. The flat band is shown to arise from a possible compact-localized state of all five 4d orbitals of Pd. The diamagnetic susceptibility is precisely measured to support the calculated susceptibility obtained from the band structure. We further demonstrate that Pd3P2S8 can be exfoliated down to monolayer, which ultimately will allow the possible control of the localized states in this two-dimensional kagome lattice using the electric field gating.

$Li_{2}RuO_{3}$ with a honeycomb structure undergoes a drastic transition from a regular honeycomb lattice with the $C2/m$ space group to a valence bond solid state of the $P2_{1}/m$ space group with an extremely strong dimerization at 550 K. We synthesized $Li_{2}Ru_{1-x}Mn_{x}O_{3}$ with a full solid solution and investigated doping effects on the valence bond solid state as a function of Mn content. The valence bond solid state is found to be stable up to $x = 0.2$, based on our extensive experiments: structural studies, resistivity, and magnetic susceptibility. On the other hand, the extended x-ray absorption fine structure analyses show that the dimer local structure remains robust even above $x = 0.2$ with a minimal effect on the dimer bond length. This indicates that the locally-disordered dimer structure survives well into the Mn-rich phase even though the thermodynamically stable average structure has the $C2/m$ space group. Our results prove that the dimer formation in $Li_{2}RuO_{3}$ is predominantly a local phenomenon driven by the formation of orbitally-assisted metal-metal bonds and that these dimers are relatively robust against doping-induced disorder., Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures

Spin-orbit coupling (SOC) is essential in understanding the properties of 5d transition metal compounds, whose SOC value is large and almost comparable to other key parameters. Over the past few years, there have been numerous studies on the SOC-driven effects of the electronic bands, magnetism, and spin-orbit entanglement for those materials with a large SOC. However, it is less studied and remains an unsolved problem in how the SOC affects the lattice dynamics. We, therefore, measured the phonon spectra of 5d pyrochlore Cd2Os2O7 over the full Brillouin zone to address the question by using inelastic x-ray scattering (IXS). Our main finding is a visible mode-dependence in the phonon spectra, measured across the metal-insulator transition at 227 K. We examined the SOC strength dependence of the lattice dynamics and its spin-phonon (SP) coupling, with first-principle calculations. Our experimental data taken at 100 K are in good agreement with the theoretical results obtained with the optimized U = 2.0 eV with SOC. By scaling the SOC strength and the U value in the DFT calculations, we demonstrate that SOC is more relevant than U to explaining the observed mode-dependent phonon energy shifts with temperature. Furthermore, the temperature dependence of the phonon energy can be effectively described by scaling SOC. Non-collinear magnetic order arises for various reasons in several magnetic systems and exhibits interesting spin dynamics. Despite its ubiquitous presence, little is known of how magnons, otherwise stable quasiparticles, decay in these systems, particularly in metallic magnets. Using inelastic neutron scattering, we examine the magnetic excitation spectra in a metallic non-collinear antiferromagnet CrB$_{2}$, in which Cr atoms form a triangular lattice and display incommensurate magnetic order. Our data show intrinsic magnon damping and continuum-like excitations that cannot be explained by linear spin wave theory. The intrinsic magnon linewidth $\Gamma(q,E_{q})$ shows very unusual momentum dependence, which our analysis shows to originate from the combination of two-magnon decay and the Stoner continuum. By comparing the theoretical predictions with the experiments, we identify where in the momentum and energy space one of the two factors becomes more dominant. Our work constitutes a rare comprehensive study of the spin dynamics in metallic non-collinear antiferromagnets. Unambiguous identification of fractionalized excitations in quantum spin liquids has been a long-standing issue in correlated topological phases. Conventional spectroscopic probes, such as the dynamical spin structure factor, can only detect composites of fractionalized excitations, leading to a broad continuum in energy. Lacking a clear signature in conventional probes has been the biggest obstacle in the field. In this work, we theoretically investigate what kinds of distinctive signatures of fractionalized excitations can be probed in two-dimensional nonlinear spectroscopy by considering the exactly solvable Kitaev spin liquids. We demonstrate the existence of a number of salient features of the Majorana fermions and fluxes in two-dimensional nonlinear spectroscopy, which provide crucial information about such excitations., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures + Supplemental Materials(6 pages, 2 figures)

Li2RuO3 undergoes a structural transition at a relatively high temperature of 550 K with a distinct dimerization of Ru-Ru bonds on the otherwise isotropic honeycomb lattice. It exhibits a unique herringbone dimerization pattern with a largest ever reported value of the bond shrinkage of about ~ 0.5 \r{A}. Despite extensive studies, both theoretical and experimental, however, its origin and its effect on physical properties still remain to be understood. In this work, using high quality single crystals we investigated the anisotropy of resistivity ($\rho$) and magnetic susceptibility ($\chi$) to find a very clear anisotropy: $\rho$$_c*$ > $\rho$$_b$ > $\rho$$_a$ and $\chi$$_b$ > $\chi$$_a$ > $\chi$$_c*$. For possible theoretical interpretations, we carried out density functional calculations to conclude that these anisotropic behavior is due to the correlation effects combined with the unique orbital structure and the dimerization of Ru 4d bands., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

The non-trivial magnon band topology and its consequent responses have been extensively studied in two-dimensional magnetisms. However, the triangular lattice antiferromagnet (TLAF), the best-known frustrated two-dimensional magnet, has received less attention than the closely related Kagome system, because of the spin-chirality cancellation in the umbrella ground state of the undistorted TLAF. In this work, we study the band topology and the thermal Hall effect (THE) of the TLAF with (anti-)trimerization distortion under the external perpendicular magnetic field using the linearized spin wave theory. We show that the spin-chirality cancellation is removed in such case, giving rise to the non-trivial magnon band topology and the finite THE. Moreover, the magnon bands exhibit band topology transitions tuned by the magnetic field. We demonstrate that such transitions are accompanied by the logarithmic divergence of the first derivative of the thermal Hall conductivity. $\mathsf{Mn_{3}Sn}$ has recently attracted considerable attention as a magnetic Weyl semimetal exhibiting concomitant transport anomalies at room temperature. The topology of the electronic bands, their relation to the magnetic ground state and their nonzero Berry curvature lie at the heart of the problem. The examination of the full magnetic Hamiltonian reveals otherwise hidden aspects of these unusual physical properties. Here, we report the full spin wave spectra of $\mathsf{Mn_{3}Sn}$ measured over a wide momentum - energy range by the inelastic neutron scattering technique. Using a linear spin wave theory, we determine a suitable magnetic Hamiltonian which not only explains the experimental results but also stabilizes the low-temperature helical phase, consistent with our DFT calculations. The effect of this helical ordering on topological band structures is further examined using a tight-binding method, which confirms the elimination of Weyl points in the helical phase. It has been recognized that the condensation of spin-triplet Cooper pairs requires not only the broken gauge symmetry but also the spin ordering as well. One consequence of this is the possibility of the Cooper-pair spin current analogous to the magnon spin current in magnetic insulators, the analogy also extending to the existence of the Gilbert damping of the collective spin-triplet dynamics. The recently fabricated heterostructure of the thin film of the itinerant ferromagnet SrRuO3 on the bulk Sr2RuO4, the best-known candidate material for the spin-triplet superconductor, offers a promising platform for generating such spin current. We will show how such heterostructure allows us to not only realize the long-range spin valve but also electrically drive the collective spin mode of the spin-triplet order parameter. We investigated the topological property of magnon bands in the collinear magnetic orders of zigzag and stripy phases for the antiferromagnetic honeycomb lattice and identified Berry curvature and symmetry constraints on the magnon band structure. Different symmetries of both zigzag and stripy phases lead to different topological properties, in particular, the magnon bands of the stripy phase being disentangled with a finite Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) term with non-zero spin Chern number. This is corroborated by calculating the spin Nernst effect. For the quantum well in an optical microcavity, the interplay of the Coulomb interaction and the electron-photon (e-ph) coupling can lead to the hybridizations of the exciton and the cavity photon known as polaritons, which can form the Bose-Einstein condensate above a threshold density. Additional physics due to the nontrivial Berry phase comes into play when the quantum well consists of the gapped two-dimensional (2D) Dirac material such as the transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) MoS$_2$ or WSe$_2$. Specifically, in forming the polariton, the e-ph coupling from the optical selection rule due to the Berry phase can compete against the Coulomb electron-electron (e-e) interaction. We find that this competition gives rise to a rich phase diagram for the polariton condensate involving both topological and symmetry breaking phase transitions, with the former giving rise to the quantum anomalous Hall and the quantum spin Hall phases., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

In this work, we investigate the nature of the fractional quantum Hall state in the 1/3-filled second Landau level (SLL) at filling factor $\nu=7/3$ (and 8/3 in the presence of the particle-hole symmetry) via exact diagonalization in both torus and spherical geometries. Specifically, we compute the overlap between the exact 7/3 ground state and various competing states including (i) the Laughlin state, (ii) the fermionic Haffnian state, (iii) the antisymmetrized product state of two composite fermion seas at 1/6 filling, and (iv) the particle-hole (PH) conjugate of the $Z_4$ parafermion state. All these trial states are constructed according to a guiding principle called the bilayer mapping approach, where a trial state is obtained as the antisymmetrized projection of a bilayer quantum Hall state with interlayer distance $d$ as a variational parameter. Under the proper understanding of the ground-state degeneracy in the torus geometry, the $Z_4$ parafermion state can be obtained as the antisymmetrized projection of the Halperin (330) state. Similarly, it is proved in this work that the fermionic Haffnian state can be obtained as the antisymmetrized projection of the Halperin (551) state. It is shown that, while extremely accurate at sufficiently large positive Haldane pseudopotential variation $\delta V_1^{(1)}$, the Laughlin state loses its overlap with the exact 7/3 ground state significantly at $\delta V_1^{(1)} \simeq 0$. At slightly negative $\delta V_1^{(1)}$, it is shown that the PH-conjugated $Z_4$ parafermion state has a substantial overlap with the exact 7/3 ground state, which is the highest among the above four trial states., Comment: 22 pages, 5 figures

We investigate the orbital fluctuations in the ferromagnetic-metallic phase of La$_{1.2}$Sr$_{1.8}$Mn$_2$O$_7$ by considering a two orbital model within a tight-binding description which reproduces the ARPES Fermi surface. We find strong antisymmetric transverse orbital fluctuations at wavevector ($ 0.5 \pi, 0.5 \pi$) resulting from the Fermi-surface nesting between the portions of bonding and antibonding bands instead of the widely believed nesting between the portions of bonding band despite their flat segments, which provide an insight into the origin of so called CE-type orbital fluctuations in the ferromagnetic-metallic phase. Subsequent renormalization of the phonons near wavevector ($0.5 \pi,0.5 \pi$) and the behavior of the phonon linewidth as a function of momentum are in agreement with the inelastic neutron scattering experiments.

We study the edge-mode excitations of a fractional quantum Hall droplet by expressing the edge state wavefunctions as linear combinations of Jack polynomials with a negative parameter. We show that the exact diagonalization within subspace of Jack polynomials can be used to generate the chiral edge-mode excitation spectrum in the Laughlin phase and the Moore-Read phase with realistic Coulomb interaction. The truncation technique for the edge excitations simplifies the procedure to extract reliably the edge-mode velocities, which avoids the otherwise complicated analysis of the full spectrum that contains both edge and bulk excitations.
