Abstract

We describe a torsion pendulum with a large mass-quadrupole moment and a resonant frequency of 2.8 mHz, whose angle is measured using a modified Michelson interferometer. The system achieved noise levels of $\sim200\ \text{prad}/\sqrt{\text{Hz}}$ between 0.2-30 Hz and $\sim10\ \text{prad}/\sqrt{\text{Hz}}$ above 100 Hz. Such a system can be applied to a broad range of fields from the study of rotational seismic motion and elastogravity signals to gravitational wave observation and tests of gravity.

Abstract

We tested the gravitational $1/r^2$ law using a stationary torsion-balance detector and a rotating attractor containing test bodies with both 18-fold and 120-fold azimuthal symmetries that simultaneously tests the $1/r^2$ law at two different length scales. We took data at detector-attractor separations between $52~\mu$m and 3.0 mm. Newtonian gravity gave an excellent fit to our data, limiting with 95\% confidence any gravitational-strength Yukawa interactions to ranges $< 38.6~\mu$m., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

With a reinterpretation of recent results, the GRACE Follow-On mission can be applied to gravitational wave astronomy. Existing GRACE Follow-On data constrain the stochastic gravitational wave background to $\Omega_{GW}<3.3\times10^{7}$ at 100 mHz. With a dedicated analysis, GRACE Follow-On may be able to detect the inspiral of local neutron star binaries, inspiral of subgalactic stellar-mass black hole binaries, or mergers of intermediate-mass black hole binaries within the Milky Way.

Abstract

We used a torsion pendulum and rotating attractor with 20-pole electron-spin distributions to probe dipole-dipole interactions mediated by exotic pseudo-Goldstone bosons with $m_{\rm b}\leq 500 \; \mu$eV and coupling strengths up to 14 orders of magnitude weaker than electromagnetism. This corresponds to symmetry-breaking scales $F \leq 70$ TeV, the highest reached in any laboratory experiment. We used an attractor with a 20-pole unpolarized mass distribution to improve laboratory bounds on $CP$-violating monopole-dipole interactions with $1.5\:\mu$eV$

Abstract

This paper characterizes the immunity of I/Os under different supply voltages for fault-tolerant circuit designs against electromagnetic interference. The direct power injection approach is used as a means to characterize the immunity of circuits. In this work, the immunity characterization has been performed under two scenarios: (1) an input buffer of a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) followed by a single flip-flop, and (2) the FPGA input buffer followed by a redundancy-based fault-tolerant circuit. The experimental results show that when downscaling the supply voltage through a set of nominal values (i.e., 3.3, 2.5, 1.8, 1.5, 1.2 V), the immunity of I/Os is decreased from the highest level at 3.3 V to the lowest at 1.2 V. Particularly, the maximum difference in the immunity is about 16.8 dB at the frequency of 600 MHz. Moreover, experiments demonstrate that I/O buffers followed by the redundancy-based fault-tolerant circuit can improve the immunity of the circuit up to 4 dB below the frequency band of 400 MHz. Thus, the redundancy-based fault-tolerant circuit can support I/Os to operate reliably in the harsh environment.

Abstract

The effect of the desorption-recombination temperature on the microstructure and magnetic properties of hydrogenation-disproportionation-desorption-recombination (HDDR) processed Nd-Fe-B powders was studied. The NdxB6.4Ga0.3Nb0.2Febal (x=12.5-13.5, at.%) casting alloys were pulverized after homogenizing annealing, and then subjected to HDDR treatment. During the HDDR process, desorption-recombination (DR) reaction was induced at two different temperature, 810°C and 820°C. The higher Nd content resulted in enhanced coercivity of the HDDR powder, and which was attributed to the thicker and more uniform Nd-rich phase along grain boundaries. But this uniform Nd-rich phase induced faster grain growth. The remanence of the powder DR-treated at 820°C is higher than that DR-treated at 810°C. In addition, it was also confirmed that higher DR temperature is much more effective to improve squareness.

Abstract

Introduction: Majority of international guidelines for bipolar disorders are based on evidences from clinical trials. In contrast, the Korean Medication Algorithm Project for Bipolar Disorder (KMAP-BP) was developed to adopt an expert-consensus paradigm which was more practical and specific to the atmosphere in Korea. Objectives: In this study, preferred medication strategies for acute mania over six consecutively published KMAP-BP (2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022) were investigated. Methods: A written survey using a nine-point scale was asked to Korean experts about the appropriateness of various treatment strategies and treatment agents. Results: The most preferred option for the initial treatment of mania was a combination of a mood stabilizer (MS) and an atypical antipsychotic (AAP) in every edition. Preference for combined treatment for euphoric mania increased, peaked in KMAP-BP 2010, and declined slightly. Either MS or AAP monotherapy was also considered a first-line strategy for mania, but not for all types of episodes, including mixed/psychotic mania. Among MSs, lithium and valproate are almost equally preferred except in the mixed subtype where valproate is the most recommended MS. The preference of valproate showed reverse U-shaped curve. This preference change of valproate may indicate the concern about teratotoxicity in women. Quetiapine, aripiprazole, and olanzapine were the preferred AAP for acute mania since 2014. This change might depend on the recent evidences and safety profile. In cases of unsatisfactory response to initial medications, switching or adding another first-line agent was recommended. The most notable changes over time included the increasing preference for AAPs. Conclusions: The Korean experts have been increasingly convinced of the effectiveness of a combination therapy for acute mania. Abstract

Introduction Quality in medical care must be measured in order to be improved. Trauma management is part of health care, and by definition, it must be checked constantly. The only way to measure quality and outcomes is to systematically accrue data and analyze them. Material and methods A systematic revision of the literature about quality indicators in trauma associated to an international consensus conference Results An internationally approved base core set of 82 trauma quality indicators was obtained: Indicators were divided into 6 fields: prevention, structure, process, outcome, post-traumatic management, and society integrational effects. Conclusion Present trauma quality indicator core set represents the result of an international effort aiming to provide a useful tool in quality evaluation and improvement. Further improvement may only be possible through international trauma registry development. This will allow for huge international data accrual permitting to evaluate results and compare outcomes.
