In this paper, we give a characterization of Fano type varieties of plc pairs. This extends a result due to Choi and Park for pklt pairs. Moreover, we show that for a plc pair $(X,\Delta)$, if no plc centers are contained in the augmented base locus $\mathbf{B}_{+}(-(K_X+\Delta))$, then $(X,\Delta)$ admits a good $-(K_X+\Delta)$-minimal model.

Electroencephalography (EEG) is a generally used neuroimaging approach in brain-computer interfaces due to its non-invasive characteristics and convenience, making it an effective tool for understanding human intentions. Therefore, recent research has focused on decoding human intentions from EEG signals utilizing deep learning methods. However, since EEG signals are highly susceptible to noise during acquisition, there is a high possibility of the existence of noisy data in the dataset. Although pioneer studies have generally assumed that the dataset is well-curated, this assumption is not always met in the EEG dataset. In this paper, we addressed this issue by designing a dataset refinement algorithm that can eliminate noisy data based on metrics evaluating data influence during the training process. We applied the proposed algorithm to two motor imagery EEG public datasets and three different models to perform dataset refinement. The results indicated that retraining the model with the refined dataset consistently led to better generalization performance compared to using the original dataset. Brain-computer interface (BCI) enables direct communication between the brain and external devices by decoding neural signals, offering potential solutions for individuals with motor impairments. This study explores the neural signatures of motor execution (ME) and motor imagery (MI) tasks using EEG signals, focusing on four conditions categorized as sense-related (hot and cold) and motor-related (pull and push) conditions. We conducted scalp topography analysis to examine activation patterns in the sensorimotor cortex, revealing distinct regional differences: sense--related conditions primarily activated the posterior region of the sensorimotor cortex, while motor--related conditions activated the anterior region of the sensorimotor cortex. These spatial distinctions align with neurophysiological principles, suggesting condition-specific functional subdivisions within the sensorimotor cortex. We further evaluated the performances of three neural network models-EEGNet, ShallowConvNet, and DeepConvNet-demonstrating that ME tasks achieved higher classification accuracies compared to MI tasks. Specifically, in sense-related conditions, the highest accuracy was observed in the cold condition. In motor-related conditions, the pull condition showed the highest performance, with DeepConvNet yielding the highest results. The detection of pilots' mental states is critical, as abnormal mental states have the potential to cause catastrophic accidents. This study demonstrates the feasibility of using deep learning techniques to classify different fatigue levels, specifically a normal state, low fatigue, and high fatigue. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to classify fatigue levels in pilots. Our approach employs the hybrid deep neural network comprising five convolutional blocks and one long short-term memory block to extract the significant features from electroencephalography signals. Ten pilots participated in the experiment, which was conducted in a simulated flight environment. Compared to four conventional models, our proposed model achieved a superior grand-average accuracy of 0.8801, outperforming other models by at least 0.0599 in classifying fatigue levels. In addition to successfully classifying fatigue levels, our model provided valuable feedback to subjects. Brain-computer interface (BCI) technology enables direct interaction between humans and computers by analyzing brain signals. Electroencephalogram (EEG) is one of the non-invasive tools used in BCI systems, providing high temporal resolution for real-time applications. However, EEG signals are often affected by a low signal-to-noise ratio, physiological artifacts, and individual variability, representing challenges in extracting distinct features. Also, motor imagery (MI)-based EEG signals could contain features with low correlation to MI characteristics, which might cause the weights of the deep model to become biased towards those features. To address these problems, we proposed the end-to-end deep preprocessing method that effectively enhances MI characteristics while attenuating features with low correlation to MI characteristics. The proposed method consisted of the temporal, spatial, graph, and similarity blocks to preprocess MI-based EEG signals, aiming to extract more discriminative features and improve the robustness. We evaluated the proposed method using the public dataset 2a of BCI Competition IV to compare the performances when integrating the proposed method into the conventional models, including the DeepConvNet, the M-ShallowConvNet, and the EEGNet. The experimental results showed that the proposed method could achieve the improved performances and lead to more clustered feature distributions of MI tasks. For the $N$-dimensional Fourier matrix $\mathcal F_N$, we show that if $N \geq 2$, then all $2\times 2$ principal minors of $\mathcal F_N$ are nonzero if and only if $N$ is square-free. Additionally, we show that if $N > 4$, then all $3\times 3$ principal minors of $\mathcal F_N$ are nonzero if and only if $N$ is square-free. In this article, we investigate properties of digital H-spaces in the graph theoretic model of digital topology. As in prior work, the results obtained often depend fundamentally on the choice between NP$_1$ and NP$_2$ product adjacencies. We explore algebraic properties of digital H-spaces preserved under digital homotopy equivalence, and we give a general construction that produces examples of digital H-spaces which are not homotopy-equivalent to digital topological groups in both categories. Further, we show that this construction essentially classifies all NP$_2$-digital H-spaces. In a short appendix, we resolve a question that was left unresolved in [17], and complete the full classification of digital topological groups.

Electrocardiograms (ECGs) and photoplethysmograms (PPGs) are generally used to monitor an individual's cardiovascular health. In clinical settings, ECGs and fingertip PPGs are the main signals used for assessing cardiovascular health, but the equipment necessary for their collection precludes their use in daily monitoring. Although PPGs obtained from wrist-worn devices are susceptible to noise due to motion, they have been widely used to continuously monitor cardiovascular health because of their convenience. Therefore, we would like to combine the ease with which PPGs can be collected with the information that ECGs provide about cardiovascular health by developing models to synthesize ECG signals from paired PPG signals. We tackled this problem using generative adversarial networks (GANs) and found that models trained using the original GAN formulations can be successfully used to synthesize ECG signals from which heart rate can be extracted using standard signal processing pipelines. Incorporating a frequency-domain constraint to model training improved the stability of model performance and also the performance on heart rate estimation.

We consider tilings $(\mathcal{Q},\Phi)$ of $\mathbb{R}^d$ where $\mathcal{Q}$ is the $d$-dimensional unit cube and the set of translations $\Phi$ is constrained to lie in a pre-determined lattice $A \mathbb{Z}^d$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$. We provide a full characterization of matrices $A$ for which such cube tilings exist when $\Phi$ is a sublattice of $A\mathbb{Z}^d$ with any $d \in \mathbb{N}$ or a generic subset of $A\mathbb{Z}^d$ with $d\leq 7$. As a direct consequence of our results, we obtain a criterion for the existence of linearly constrained frequency sets, that is, $\Phi \subseteq A\mathbb{Z}^d$, such that the respective set of complex exponential functions $\mathcal{E} (\Phi)$ is an orthogonal Fourier basis for the space of square integrable functions supported on a parallelepiped $B\mathcal{Q}$, where $A, B \in \mathbb{R}^{d \times d}$ are nonsingular matrices given a priori. Similarly constructed Riesz bases are considered in a companion paper.

In this paper, we present a novel multi-modal attention guidance method designed to address the challenges of turn-taking dynamics in meetings and enhance group conversations within virtual reality (VR) environments. Recognizing the difficulties posed by a confined field of view and the absence of detailed gesture tracking in VR, our proposed method aims to mitigate the challenges of noticing new speakers attempting to join the conversation. This approach tailors attention guidance, providing a nuanced experience for highly engaged participants while offering subtler cues for those less engaged, thereby enriching the overall meeting dynamics. Through group interview studies, we gathered insights to guide our design, resulting in a prototype that employs "light" as a diegetic guidance mechanism, complemented by spatial audio. The combination creates an intuitive and immersive meeting environment, effectively directing users' attention to new speakers. An evaluation study, comparing our method to state-of-the-art attention guidance approaches, demonstrated significantly faster response times (p < 0.001), heightened perceived conversation satisfaction (p < 0.001), and preference (p < 0.001) for our method. Our findings contribute to the understanding of design implications for VR social attention guidance, opening avenues for future research and development.

The existence of a Fourier basis with frequencies in $\mathbb{R}^d$ for the space of square integrable functions supported on a given parallelepiped in $\mathbb{R}^d$, has been well understood since the 1950s. In a companion paper, we derived necessary and sufficient conditions for a parallelepiped in $\mathbb{R}^d$ to permit an orthogonal basis of exponentials with frequencies constrained to be a subset of a prescribed lattice in $\mathbb{R}^d$, a restriction relevant in many applications. In this paper, we investigate analogous conditions for parallelepipeds that permit a Riesz basis of exponentials with the same constraints on the frequencies. We provide a sufficient condition on the parallelepiped for the Riesz basis case which directly extends one of the necessary and sufficient conditions obtained in the orthogonal basis case. We also provide a sufficient condition which constrains the spectral norm of the matrix generating the parallelepiped, instead of constraining the structure of the matrix.

Brain-computer interface (BCI) has garnered the significant attention for their potential in various applications, with event-related potential (ERP) performing a considerable role in BCI systems. This paper introduces a novel Distributed Inference System tailored for detecting task-wise single-trial ERPs in a stream of satellite images. Unlike traditional methodologies that employ a single model for target detection, our system utilizes multiple models, each optimized for specific tasks, ensuring enhanced performance across varying image transition times and target onset times. Our experiments, conducted on four participants, employed two paradigms: the Normal paradigm and an AI paradigm with bounding boxes. Results indicate that our proposed system outperforms the conventional methods in both paradigms, achieving the highest $F_{\beta}$ scores. Furthermore, including bounding boxes in the AI paradigm significantly improved target recognition. This study underscores the potential of our Distributed Inference System in advancing the field of ERP detection in satellite image streams.

In contrast to four conventional models, our proposed model achieved a superior grand--average accuracy of 0.8613, surpassing other conventional models by at least 0.0597 in classifying workload levels across all participants. Our model not only successfully classified workload levels but also provided valuable feedback to the participants. Non-invasive brain-computer interface technology has been developed for detecting human mental states with high performances. Detection of the pilots' mental states is particularly critical because their abnormal mental states could cause catastrophic accidents. In this study, we presented the feasibility of classifying distraction levels (namely, normal state, low distraction, and high distraction) by applying the deep learning method. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first attempt to classify distraction levels under a flight environment. We proposed a model for classifying distraction levels. A total of ten pilots conducted the experiment in a simulated flight environment. The grand-average accuracy was 0.8437 for classifying distraction levels across all subjects. Brain-computer interface (BCI) is a communication system between humans and computers reflecting human intention without using a physical control device. Since deep learning is robust in extracting features from data, research on decoding electroencephalograms by applying deep learning has progressed in the BCI domain. However, the application of deep learning in the BCI domain has issues with a lack of data and overconfidence. To solve these issues, we proposed a novel data augmentation method, CropCat. CropCat consists of two versions, CropCat-spatial and CropCat-temporal. We designed our method by concatenating the cropped data after cropping the data, which have different labels in spatial and temporal axes. In addition, we adjusted the label based on the ratio of cropped length. As a result, the generated data from our proposed method assisted in revising the ambiguous decision boundary into apparent caused by a lack of data. Due to the effectiveness of the proposed method, the performance of the four EEG signal decoding models is improved in two motor imagery public datasets compared to when the proposed method is not applied. The standard empirical risk minimization (ERM) can underperform on certain minority groups (i.e., waterbirds in lands or landbirds in water) due to the spurious correlation between the input and its label. Several studies have improved the worst-group accuracy by focusing on the high-loss samples. The hypothesis behind this is that such high-loss samples are \textit{spurious-cue-free} (SCF) samples. However, these approaches can be problematic since the high-loss samples may also be samples with noisy labels in the real-world scenarios. To resolve this issue, we utilize the predictive uncertainty of a model to improve the worst-group accuracy under noisy labels. To motivate this, we theoretically show that the high-uncertainty samples are the SCF samples in the binary classification problem. This theoretical result implies that the predictive uncertainty is an adequate indicator to identify SCF samples in a noisy label setting. Motivated from this, we propose a novel ENtropy based Debiasing (END) framework that prevents models from learning the spurious cues while being robust to the noisy labels. In the END framework, we first train the \textit{identification model} to obtain the SCF samples from a training set using its predictive uncertainty. Then, another model is trained on the dataset augmented with an oversampled SCF set. The experimental results show that our END framework outperforms other strong baselines on several real-world benchmarks that consider both the noisy labels and the spurious-cues.
