Abstract

Sodium-ion batteries are emerging as promising alternatives to lithium-ion batteries due to the abundance of sodium resources. Na3V2(PO4)2F3 (NVPF), a cathode material for sodium ion batteries, is attracting attention from its rate capability and high working voltage, but its low discharge capacity is one of the challenges. In this work, we aim to design a high-capacity NASICON-type cathode of sodium-ion battery by discovering element combinations that can stabilize the sodium excess phase in NVPFs. For the efficient discovery of element combinations, we propose a Bayesian optimization-based algorithm for chemical composition discovery. Specifically, we propose an element mapping technique to solve the limitation of Bayesian optimization in discovering chemical composition. By constructing a chemical space applicable to Bayesian optimization through element mapping and optimizing the constructed chemical space, we found optimal binary element combinations. This work not only offers insights into designing high-capacity cathodes, but also demonstrates the efficacy of the proposed algorithm in data-driven materials design., Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

This paper provides a friendly introduction to chip-firing games and graph gonality. We use graphs coming from the five Platonic solids to illustrate different tools and techniques for studying these games, including independent sets, treewidth, scramble number, and Dhar's burning algorithm. In addition to showcasing some previously known results, we present the first proofs that the dodecahedron graph has gonality $6$, and that the icosahedron graph has gonality~$9$., Comment: 22 pages, 23 figures

Abstract

Chess graphs encode the moves that a particular chess piece can make on an $m\times n$ chessboard. We study through these graphs through the lens of chip-firing games and graph gonality. We provide upper and lower bounds for the gonality of king's, bishop's, and knight's graphs, as well as for the toroidal versions of these graphs. We also prove that among all chess graphs, there exists an upper bound on gonality solely in terms of $\min\{m,n\}$, except for queen's, toroidal queen's, rook's, and toroidal bishop's graphs., Comment: 24 pages, 25 figures

Abstract

Radiation therapy is a primary and effective NasoPharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) treatment strategy. The precise delineation of Gross Tumor Volumes (GTVs) and Organs-At-Risk (OARs) is crucial in radiation treatment, directly impacting patient prognosis. Previously, the delineation of GTVs and OARs was performed by experienced radiation oncologists. Recently, deep learning has achieved promising results in many medical image segmentation tasks. However, for NPC OARs and GTVs segmentation, few public datasets are available for model development and evaluation. To alleviate this problem, the SegRap2023 challenge was organized in conjunction with MICCAI2023 and presented a large-scale benchmark for OAR and GTV segmentation with 400 Computed Tomography (CT) scans from 200 NPC patients, each with a pair of pre-aligned non-contrast and contrast-enhanced CT scans. The challenge's goal was to segment 45 OARs and 2 GTVs from the paired CT scans. In this paper, we detail the challenge and analyze the solutions of all participants. The average Dice similarity coefficient scores for all submissions ranged from 76.68\% to 86.70\%, and 70.42\% to 73.44\% for OARs and GTVs, respectively. We conclude that the segmentation of large-size OARs is well-addressed, and more efforts are needed for GTVs and small-size or thin-structure OARs. Abstract

Abstract Background Many individuals consider nocturia a significant nuisance, leading to a reduced health-related quality of life (HRQOL). However, there has been a lack of psychometrically sound patient-reported outcome measures to assess the impact of nocturia on patients in Chinese contexts. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Nocturia Quality of Life Module (ICIQ-NQOL) for use among primary care patients in Hong Kong, China. Additionally, it sought to investigate the mechanisms that link nocturia and sleep quality with HRQOL by employing moderated mediation analysis. Methods The traditional Chinese version of the ICIQ-NQOL was developed through iterative translations, cognitive debriefing interviews, and panel reviews. The psychometric evaluation included assessments of factor structure, convergent validity, concurrent validity, known-group validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability and responsiveness. Study instruments included the ICIQ-NQOL, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and a modified Incontinence Impact Questionnaire-Short Form (IIQ-7). Results A total of 419 primary care patients were recruited from general outpatient clinics, among whom 228 experiencing an average of two or more nocturia episodes per night over the past four weeks. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the two-factor structure of the ICIQ-NQOL. Concurrent validity was confirmed by moderate correlations between the IIQ-7 total score and the total score as well as two domain scores of the ICIQ-NQOL (r ranging from 0.43 to 0.49, all p
