Abstract: The research is focused on the study of expression means of negative (pejorative) evaluation in sports discourse. Based on the textual and audio-video resources related to sports reporting, the authors study lexical and stylistic levels of assessment, their linguistic and pragmatic peculiarities and nuances. The study highlights the broadness of expressive means in the English sports discourse, which is conditioned by their multiple functionalities. The article provides the diagrams presenting the occurrence and frequency of lexical units (emotive lexicon in sports reports; phraseological units and tropes intended to express negative evaluation in a sports report). The research results and findings contribute to the development of sports discourse as the object of linguistic study.

Abstract: The $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2S)$ charmonium states, composed of $c\bar{c}$ quark pairs and known since the 1970s, are widely believed to serve as ideal probes to test quantum chromodynamics in high-energy hadronic interactions. However, there is not yet a complete understanding of the charmonium-production mechanism. Recent measurements of $J/\psi$ production as a function of event charged-particle multiplicity at the collision energies of both the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) show enhanced $J/\psi$ production yields with increasing multiplicity. One potential explanation for this type of dependence is multiparton interactions (MPI). We carry out the first measurements of self-normalized $J/\psi$ yields and the $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio at both forward and backward rapidities as a function of self-normalized charged-particle multiplicity in $p$$+$$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV. In addition, detailed {\sc pythia} studies tuned to RHIC energies were performed to investigate the MPI impacts. We find that the PHENIX data at RHIC are consistent with recent LHC measurements and can only be described by {\sc pythia} calculations that include MPI effects. The forward and backward $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio, which serves as a unique and powerful approach to study final-state effects on charmonium production, is found to be less dependent on the charged-particle multiplicity., Comment: 301 authors from 69 institutions, 8 pages, 3 figures. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review D Letters. 3. On Advanced Monte Carlo Methods for Linear Algebra on Advanced Accelerator Architectures

Abstract: In this paper we present computational experiments with the Markov Chain Monte Carlo Matrix Inversion ($(\text{MC})^2\text{MI}$) on several accelerator architectures and investigate their impact on performance and scalability of the method. The method is used as a preconditioner and for solving the corresponding system of linear equations iterative methods, such as generalized minimal residuals (GMRES) or bi-conjugate gradient (stabilized) (BICGstab), are used. Abstract: In this paper, we propose an approach for an application of Bayesian optimization using Sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) and concepts from the statistical physics of classical systems. Our method leverages the power of modern machine learning libraries such as NumPyro and JAX, allowing us to perform Bayesian optimization on multiple platforms, including CPUs, GPUs, TPUs, and in parallel. Our approach enables a low entry level for exploration of the methods while maintaining high performance. 5. $Z^\prime$-mediated dark matter freeze-in at stronger coupling

Abstract: We study freeze-in production of fermionic dark matter mediated by a $Z^\prime$ gauge boson. In particular, we explore the regime of Boltzmann-suppressed production, when the Standard Model (SM) thermal bath temperature never exceeds the dark matter mass. The corresponding gauge coupling is then required to be significant, up to order one. Abstract: Multilayer nanoscale systems incorporating buried ultrathin tunnel oxides, 2D materials, and solid electrolytes are crucial for next-generation logics, memory, quantum and neuro-inspired computing. Still, an ultrathin layer control at angstrom scale is challenging for cutting-edge applications. Here we introduce a scalable approach utilizing focused ion-beam annealing for buried ultrathin oxides engineering with angstrom-scale thickness control. Our molecular dynamics simulations of Ne+ irradiation on Al/a-AlOx/Al structure confirms the pivotal role of ion generated crystal defects. We experimentally demonstrate its performance on Josephson junction tunning in the resistance range of 2 to 37% with a standard deviation of 0.86% across 25x25 mm chip. Moreover, we showcase +-17 MHz frequency control (+-0.172 A tunnel barrier thickness) for superconducting transmon qubits with coherence times up to 500 us, which is promising for useful fault-tolerant quantum computing. This work ensures ultrathin multilayer nanosystems engineering at the ultimate scale by depth-controlled crystal defects generation.

Abstract: The PHENIX experiment measured the centrality dependence of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlation functions in $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$~GeV Au$+$Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The data are well represented by L\'evy-stable source distributions. The extracted source parameters are the correlation-strength parameter $\lambda$, the L\'evy index of stability $\alpha$, and the L\'evy-scale parameter $R$ as a function of transverse mass $m_T$ and centrality. The $\lambda(m_T)$ parameter is constant at larger values of $m_T$, but decreases as $m_T$ decreases. The L\'evy scale parameter $R(m_T)$ decreases with $m_T$ and exhibits proportionality to the length scale of the nuclear overlap region. The L\'evy exponent $\alpha(m_T)$ is independent of $m_T$ within uncertainties in each investigated centrality bin, but shows a clear centrality dependence. At all centralities, the L\'evy exponent $\alpha$ is significantly different from that of Gaussian ($\alpha=2$) or Cauchy ($\alpha=1$) source distributions. Comparisons to the predictions of Monte-Carlo simulations of resonance-decay chains show that in all but the most peripheral centrality class (50%-60%), the obtained results are inconsistent with the measurements, unless a significant reduction of the in-medium mass of the $\eta'$ meson is included. In each centrality class, the best value of the in-medium $\eta'$ mass is compared to the mass of the $\eta$ meson, as well as to several theoretical predictions that consider restoration of $U_A(1)$ symmetry in hot hadronic matter., Comment: 401 authors from 75 institutions, 20 pages, 15 figures, 2 tables. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review C. Abstract: We present electrical and thermal transport measurements in single crystals of the metallic oxide RuO$_2$. The resistivity and Seebeck coefficient measured up to 970K confirm the metallic nature of transport. Magnetoresistance and Hall effect measurements as a function of orientation can be most easily described by a multiband transport model. We find that the ordinary Hall effect dominates any anomalous Hall signal in single crystals.

Abstract: High-momentum two-particle correlations are a useful tool for studying jet-quenching effects in the quark-gluon plasma. Angular correlations between neutral-pion triggers and charged hadrons with transverse momenta in the range 4--12~GeV/$c$ and 0.5--7~GeV/$c$, respectively, have been measured by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 for Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$~GeV. Suppression is observed in the yield of high-momentum jet fragments opposite the trigger particle, which indicates jet suppression stemming from in-medium partonic energy loss, while enhancement is observed for low-momentum particles. The ratio and differences between the yield in Au$+$Au collisions and $p$$+$$p$ collisions, $I_{AA}$ and $\Delta_{AA}$, as a function of the trigger-hadron azimuthal separation, $\Delta\phi$, are measured for the first time at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. 11. Gaussian Recombining Split Tree

Abstract: Binomial trees are widely used in the financial sector for valuing securities with early exercise characteristics, such as American stock options. However, while effective in many scenarios, pricing options with CRR binomial trees are limited. Major limitations are volatility estimation, constant volatility assumption, subjectivity in parameter choices, and impracticality of instantaneous delta hedging. This paper presents a novel tree: Gaussian Recombining Split Tree (GRST), which is recombining and does not need log-normality or normality market assumption. GRST generates a discrete probability mass function of market data distribution, which approximates a Gaussian distribution with known parameters at any chosen time interval. GRST Mixture builds upon the GRST concept while being flexible to fit a large class of market distributions and when given a 1-D time series data and moments of distributions at each time interval, fits a Gaussian mixture with the same mixture component probabilities applied at each time interval. Gaussian Recombining Split Tre Mixture comprises several GRST tied using Gaussian mixture component probabilities at the first node. Our extensive empirical analysis shows that the option prices from the GRST align closely with the market.

12. Spontaneous strain in quasi-two-dimensional Janus CdSe nanoplatelets and its microscopic mechanisms

Abstract: Spontaneous strain and spontaneous folding of thin nanoplatelets are known phenomena whose microscopic mechanisms are still debating. In this work, first-principles calculations are used to study the mechanical stresses that arise in Janus CdSe nanoplatelets and result in their spontaneous strain. Calculations reveal the existence of three microscopic mechanisms of this phenomenon. Two bulk mechanisms are associated with the inverse piezoelectric effect in an electric field created by the difference in electronegativities of ligands and by the depolarizing field resulting from the difference in the potential jumps in electrical double layers on the surfaces of nanoplatelets. These mechanisms account for 5-25% of the observed effect. The third mechanism is associated with the surface strain of nanoplatelets by bridging bonds, and its influence is predominant. It is shown that the latter mechanism cause spontaneous folding of thin CdSe nanoplatelets and, depending on the values of surface stresses and lateral orientation of nanoplatelets, can result in formation of their experimentally observed structures such as scrolls, spirals, and twisted ribbons., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, 3 tables

13. Time-adaptive phase estimation

Abstract: Phase estimation is known to be a robust method for single-qubit gate calibration in quantum computers, while Bayesian estimation is widely used in devising optimal methods for learning in quantum systems. We present Bayesian phase estimation methods that adaptively choose a control phase and the time of coherent evolution based on prior phase knowledge. In the presence of noise, we find near-optimal performance with respect to known theoretical bounds, and demonstrate some robustness of the estimates to noise that is not accounted for in the model of the estimator, making the methods suitable for calibrating operations in quantum computers. We determine the utility of control parameter values using functions of the prior probability of the phase that quantify expected knowledge gain either in terms of expected narrowing of the posterior or expected information gain. In particular, we find that by maximising the rate of expected gain we obtain phase estimates having standard deviation a factor of 1.42 above the Heisenberg limit, which is the lowest value we know of for sequential phase estimation. The methods provide optimal solutions accounting for available prior knowledge and experimental imperfections with minimal effort from the user. The effect of many types of noise can be specified in the model of the measurement probabilities, and the rate of knowledge gain can easily be adjusted to account for times included in the measurement sequence other than the coherent evolution leading to the unknown phase, such as times required for state preparation or readout.

Abstract: We study freeze-in production of Higgs portal dark matter (DM) at temperatures far below the dark matter mass. The temperature of the Standard Model (SM) thermal bath may have never been high such that dark matter production via thermal emission has been Boltzmann suppressed. This allows for a significant coupling between the Higgs field and DM, which is being probed by the direct DM detection experiments and invisible Higgs decay searches at the LHC. Abstract: An analysis of calibrations of extensive air showers with zenith angles $\theta \le 50^{\circ}$ and energies $E_{\text{SD}} \ge 10^{18.5}$ eV was carried out in experiments at the Yakutsk array and Telescope Array. The values of $E_{\text{SD}}$ were determined from particle densities measured with ground-based scintillation detectors at a distance $r = 800$ m from shower axis. Measured densities were compared with the values obtained in simulations preformed with the use of CORSIKA code within the framework of QGSJet-II.04 hadron interaction model for primary protons. For showers with $\theta = 0^{\circ}$ the $E_{\text{SD}}$ estimates of both arrays are very close, and their energy spectra are similar in shape and absolute value. 18. Dynamical quantum Ansatz tree approach for the heat equation

Abstract: Quantum computers can be used for the solution of various problems of mathematical physics. In the present paper, we consider a discretized version of the heat equation and address its solution on quantum computer using variational Anzats tree approach (ATA). We extend this method originally proposed for the system of linear equations to tackle full time dependent heat equation. The key ingredients of our method are (i) special probabilistic quantum circuit in order to add heat sources to temperature distribution, (ii) limiting auxiliary register in the preparation of quantum state, (iii) utilizing a robust cluster of repetitive nodes in the anzats tree structure. Abstract: The well-known mathematical instrument for detection common roots for pairs of polynomials and multiple roots of polynomials are resultants and discriminants. For a pair of polynomials $f$ and $g$ their resultant $R(f,g)$ is a function of their coefficients. Zeros of resultant $R(f,g)$ correspond to the families of coefficients of $f$ and $g$ such that $f$ and $g$ have a common root. Herewith the calculation of this common root is a separate problem. The principal results on calculation of a unique common root of two polynomials and also about calculating a unique root of multiplicity 2 of a polynomial in terms of the first order partial derivatives of resultants and discriminants are given in the monograph by I.M. Gelfand, M.M. Kapranov, A.V. Zelevinsky [1, Ch. 3, Ch. 12]. A significant development of the ideas of this book in the direction of searching for formulas for multiple roots of polynomials is presented in the paper by I.A. Antipova, E.N. Mikhalkin, A.K. Tsikh [2]. The key result of this article is [2, Theorem 1] where the expression for a unique root of multiplicity $s \geq 3$ in terms of the first order partial derivatives of resultant of the polynomial and it's derivative of order $s-1$. In the present article the explicit formulas for higher derivatives of resultants of pairs of polynomials possessing common roots are obtained. On this basis a series of results that differ in ideas from [2, Theorem 1] linking higher derivatives of resultants and common multiple roots are proven. Abstract: The Spin Physics Detector collaboration proposes to install a universal detector in the second interaction point of the NICA collider under construction (JINR, Dubna) to study the spin structure of the proton and deuteron and other spin-related phenomena using a unique possibility to operate with polarized proton and deuteron beams at a collision energy up to 27 GeV and a luminosity up to $10^{32}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. As the main goal, the experiment aims to provide access to the gluon TMD PDFs in the proton and deuteron, as well as the gluon transversity distribution and tensor PDFs in the deuteron, via the measurement of specific single and double spin asymmetries using different complementary probes such as charmonia, open charm, and prompt photon production processes. Other polarized and unpolarized physics is possible, especially at the first stage of NICA operation with reduced luminosity and collision energy of the proton and ion beams. This document is dedicated exclusively to technical issues of the SPD setup construction.

Abstract: Superconducting Nb thin films have recently attracted significant attention due to their utility for quantum information technologies. In the processing of Nb thin films, fluoride-based chemical etchants are commonly used to remove surface oxides that are known to affect superconducting quantum devices adversely. However, these same etchants can also introduce hydrogen to form Nb hydrides, potentially negatively impacting microwave loss performance. Here, we present comprehensive materials characterization of Nb hydrides formed in Nb thin films as a function of fluoride chemical treatments. In particular, secondary-ion mass spectrometry, X-ray scattering, and transmission electron microscopy reveal the spatial distribution and phase transformation of Nb hydrides. The rate of hydride formation is determined by the fluoride solution acidity and the etch rate of Nb2O5, which acts as a diffusion barrier for hydrogen into Nb. The resulting Nb hydrides are detrimental to Nb superconducting properties and lead to increased power-independent microwave loss in coplanar waveguide resonators. However, Nb hydrides do not correlate with two-level system loss or device aging mechanisms. Overall, this work provides insight into the formation of Nb hydrides and their role in microwave loss, thus guiding ongoing efforts to maximize coherence time in superconducting quantum devices.

Abstract: Active development of quarries in the Republic of Karelia contributes to the improvement of the control system of the parameters of drilling and blasting operations with the aim of ensuring the safety of buildings and structures near mining facilities. During the study of the seismic effect of industrial explosions, the technology of blasting has been considered and a typical scheme of blasting at a mining enterprise has been described. In the quarries of the Kostomuksha mining and processing plant, to reduce the seismic effect, short-blasting is used. The created monitoring system in Karelia makes it possible to select not only teleseismic earthquakes, but also regional and local scale events on the seismic records. Explosions are recorded by seismic stations of the Karelian network and other regions if the magnitude of the event is more than 1.7. As a result of the waveforms' analysis of the records of the seismic station KOS6, located a few kilometers from the quarries, a clear entry of the transverse wave has been noted. The values of the local magnitudes of the explosions established during the six months of 2018 vary from 1.5 to 2.5 and do not exceed 3. The constructed averaging line shows the dependence of magnitude on the total charge; facts of its growth are noted with an increase in the total mass of the charge, as well as significant spread of data from the averaging line. In the course of the study, the possibility of reducing the seismic effects of industrial explosions through the use of effective short-delayed invocation schemes has been determined.

Abstract: We present a detailed characterization of the structure and evolution of differentially rotating plasmas driven on the MAGPIE pulsed-power generator (1.4 MA peak current, 240 ns rise-time). The experiments were designed to simulate physics relevant to accretion discs and jets on laboratory scales. A cylindrical aluminium wire array Z pinch enclosed by return posts with an overall azimuthal off-set angle was driven to produce ablation plasma flows that propagate inwards in a slightly off-radial trajectory, injecting mass, angular momentum, and confining ram pressure to a rotating plasma column on the axis. However, the plasma is free to expand axially, forming a collimated, differentially rotating axial jet that propagates at $\approx 100$ km/s. The density profile of the jet corresponds to a dense shell surrounding a low-density core, which is consistent with the centrifugal barrier effect being sustained along the jet's propagation. We show analytically that, as the rotating plasma accretes mass, conservation of mass and momentum implies plasma radial growth scaling as $r \propto t^{1/3}$. As the characteristic moment of inertia increases, the rotation velocity is predicted to decrease and settle on a characteristic value $\approx 20$ km/s. 24. Probing sterile neutrino freeze-in at stronger coupling

Abstract: The regime of dark matter (DM) freeze-in at stronger coupling interpolates between freeze-in and freeze-out. It relies on Boltzmann-suppressed dark matter production, implying that the Standard Model bath temperature never exceeds the dark matter mass. In this work, we study this regime in the context of sterile neutrino dark matter, which can be sufficiently long-lived for a tiny sterile-active mixing. The sterile neutrino is assumed to couple to a real singlet scalar, providing for a thermal production mechanism of the former. We find that DM mass can range from GeV to tens of TeV consistently with all the constraints. 25. Dynamic flexoelectric instabilities in nematic liquid crystals

Abstract: Electro-hydrodynamic phenomena in liquid crystals constitute an old but still very active research area. The reason is that these phenomena play the key role in various applications of liquid crystals and due to the general interest of physical community to out-of-equilibrium systems. Nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) are ideally representative for such investigations. Our article aims to study theoretically the linear NLCs dynamics. We include into consideration orientation elastic energy, hydrodynamic motion, external alternating electric field, electric conductivity and flexoelectric polarization. We analyze the linear stability of the NLC film, determining dynamics of perturbations with respect to the homogeneous initial state of the NLC. For the purpose we compute eigen-values of the evolution matrix for a period of the external alternating electric field. These eigen-values determine the amplification factors for the modes during the period. The instability occurs when the principal eigen-value of the evolution matrix becomes unity by its absolute value. The condition determines the threshold (critical field) for the instability of the uniform state. It turns out that one might expect various types of the instability, only partially known and investigated in the literature. Particularly, we find that the flexoelectric instability may lead to two-dimensionally space modulated patterns exhibiting time oscillations. 27. Two-dimensional turbulence in a finite box

Abstract: We present theory of two-dimensional turbulence excited by an external force in thin fluid films on scales larger than the film thickness. The principal feature of two-dimensional turbulence is the tendency of producing motions of larger and larger scales thanks to the nonlinear interaction. The tendency leads to formation of the so-called inverse cascade and, at some conditions, of big coherent vortices. We discuss the mean velocity profile of the coherent vortices and the flow fluctuations on the background of the mean velocity for different regimes. We demonstrate that the regime of strongly interacting fluctuations leads to an anisotropic scaling inside the coherent vortices.

28. Correlations of fluctuations of two-dimensional flow forced by a random force on top of a shear flow

The problem is motivated by the analysis of big coherent vortices appearing as a consequence of the inverse energy cascade in a finite box at large Reynolds numbers. We develop the perturbation theory for calculating nonlinear corrections to correlation functions of the flow fluctuations assuming that the external force is short correlated in time. We analyze corrections to the pair correlation function of vorticity and some moments. The analysis enables one to establish validity of the perturbation theory for laboratory experiments and numerical simulations.

Abstract: We examine fluctuations of vorticity inside the coherent vortex, appearing as a consequence of the inverse energy cascade in two-dimensional turbulence. Temporal and spacial correlations can be characterized by the pair correlation function. The interaction between the fluctuations leads to non-zero value of the third moment of vorticity. We examine the pair correlation function and the third moment for the model where the pumping is short correlated in time. We find explicit expressions for the Gaussian spacial correlation function of the pumping force. They confirm the general predictions obtained earlier.

Abstract: We study the correlations of vorticity fluctuations inside a coherent vortex resulting from the inverse energy cascade in two-dimensional turbulence. The presence of a coherent flow, which is a differential rotation, suppresses small-scale fluctuations of the flow, which are created by an external force, and lead to the fact that these fluctuations can be considered as non-interacting and, therefore, examined in a linear approximation. We calculate the pair correlation function of vorticity and demonstrate that it has a power-law behavior both in space and in time. The obtained results allow us to start a systematic study of the effects associated with the nonlinear interaction of fluctuations, which play an essential role on the periphery of a coherent vortex. Abstract: Dark matter freeze-in at stronger coupling is operative when the Standard Model (SM) bath temperature never exceeds the dark matter mass. An attractive feature of this scenario is that it can be probed by direct detection experiments as well as at the LHC. In this work, we show how the mechanism can be realized in a simple UV complete framework, emphasizing the role of the maximal temperature of the SM thermal bath. We demonstrate that the maximal temperature can coincide with the reheating temperature or be close to it such that dark matter production is always Boltzmann-suppressed. This possibility is realized, for example, if the inflaton decays primarily into feebly interacting right-handed neutrinos, which subsequently generate the SM thermal bath. Abstract: We present evidence for strong radiative cooling in a pulsed-power-driven magnetic reconnection experiment. Two aluminum exploding wire arrays, driven by a 20 MA peak current, 300 ns rise time pulse from the Z machine (Sandia National Laboratories), generate strongly-driven plasma flows ($M_A \approx 7$) with anti-parallel magnetic fields, which form a reconnection layer ($S_L \approx 120$) at the mid-plane. The net cooling rate far exceeds the Alfv\'enic transit rate ($\tau_{\text{cool}}^{-1}/\tau_{\text{A}}^{-1} > 100$), leading to strong cooling of the reconnection layer. We determine the advected magnetic field and flow velocity using inductive probes positioned in the inflow to the layer, and inflow ion density and temperature from analysis of visible emission spectroscopy. A sharp decrease in X-ray emission from the reconnection layer, measured using filtered diodes and time-gated X-ray imaging, provides evidence for strong cooling of the reconnection layer after its initial formation. X-ray images also show localized hotspots, regions of strong X-ray emission, with velocities comparable to the expected outflow velocity from the reconnection layer. These hotspots are consistent with plasmoids observed in 3D radiative resistive magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the experiment. X-ray spectroscopy further indicates that the hotspots have a temperature (170 eV) much higher than the bulk layer ($\leq$ 75 eV) and inflow temperatures (about 2 eV), and that these hotspots generate the majority of the high-energy (> 1 keV) emission.

Abstract: The paper considers methods of particle cooling mostly concentrating on cooling of high energy heavy particles in the high energy colliders. Presently, there are two major methods of the cooling the electron cooling and stochastic cooling. The latter can be additionally separated on the microwave stochastic cooling, the optical stochastic cooling (OSC) and the coherent electron cooling (CEC). OSC and CEC are essentially extensions of microwave stochastic cooling operating in 1-10 GHz frequency range to the optical frequencies corresponding to 30-300 THz frequency range. The OSC uses undulators as a pickup and a kicker, and an optical amplifier for signal amplification, while the CEC uses an electron beam for all these functions.

Abstract: We present results from the first experimental study of strongly radiatively-cooled magnetic reconnection. Two exploding aluminum wire arrays, driven simultaneously by the Z machine ($I_{max} = 20 \, \text{MA}$, $t_{\text{rise}} = 300 \, \text{ns}$), generate a radiatively-cooled reconnection layer ($S_L \approx 120$) in which the total cooling rate exceeds the hydrodynamic transit rate ($\tau_{\text{hydro}}/\tau_{\text{cool}} > 100$). Measurements of X-ray emission from the reconnection layer using a filtered diode ($>1$ keV) show a narrow (50 ns FWHM) burst of emission at 220 ns after current start, consistent with the formation and subsequent rapid cooling of the reconnection layer. Time-gated X-ray images of the reconnection layer show fast-moving (up to 50 km/s) hotspots inside the layer, consistent with the presence of plasmoids observed in 3D resistive magnetohydrodynamic simulations. X-ray spectroscopy shows that these hotspots generate the majority of Al K-shell emission (at around 1.6 keV) prior to the onset of cooling, and exhibit temperatures of 170 eV, much greater than the temperature of the plasma inflows and the rest of the reconnection layer.

Abstract: Over the past few years, one of the most notable advancements in AI research has been in foundation models (FMs), headlined by the rise of language models (LMs). As the models' size increases, LMs demonstrate enhancements in measurable aspects and the development of new qualitative features. However, despite researchers' attention and the rapid growth in LM application, the capabilities, limitations, and associated risks still need to be better understood. To address these issues, we introduce an open Multimodal Evaluation of Russian-language Architectures (MERA), a new instruction benchmark for evaluating foundation models oriented towards the Russian language. The benchmark encompasses 21 evaluation tasks for generative models in 11 skill domains and is designed as a black-box test to ensure the exclusion of data leakage. The paper introduces a methodology to evaluate FMs and LMs in zero- and few-shot fixed instruction settings that can be extended to other modalities. We propose an evaluation methodology, an open-source code base for the MERA assessment, and a leaderboard with a submission system. We evaluate open LMs as baselines and find that they are still far behind the human level. Abstract: Magnetic reconnection is an important process in astrophysical environments, as it re-configures magnetic field topology and converts magnetic energy into thermal and kinetic energy. In extreme astrophysical systems, such as black hole coronae and pulsar magnetospheres, radiative cooling modifies the energy partition by radiating away internal energy, which can lead to the radiative collapse of the layer. In this paper, we perform 2D & 3D simulations to model the MARZ (Magnetic Reconnection on Z) experiments, which are designed to access cooling rates in the laboratory necessary to investigate reconnection in a previously unexplored radiatively-cooled regime. These simulations are performed in GORGON, an Eulerian resistive magnetohydrodynamic code, which models the experimental geometry comprising two exploding wire arrays driven by 20 MA of current on the Z machine (Sandia National Laboratories). Radiative losses are implemented using non-local thermodynamic equilibrium tables computed using the atomic code Spk, and we probe the effects of radiation transport by implementing both a local radiation loss model and P$_{1/3}$ multi-group radiation transport. The load produces highly collisional, super-Alfv\'enic $(M_{A} \approx 1.5)$, supersonic $(M_S \approx 4-5)$ plasma flows which generate a reconnection layer ($L/{\delta} \approx 100, S_L \approx 400$). The reconnection layer undergoes radiative collapse when the radiative losses exceed Ohmic and compressional heating ${\tau}_{cool}^{-1}/{\tau}_A^{-1} \approx 100$; this generates a cold strongly compressed current sheet, leading to an accelerated reconnection rate, consistent with theoretical predictions. Finally, the current sheet is unstable to the plasmoid instability, but the magnetic islands are extinguished by strong radiative cooling before ejection from the layer.

Abstract: New antiviral agents are essential to improving treatment and control of SARS-CoV-2 infections that can lead to the disease COVID-19. Antimicrobial peptoids are sequence-specific oligo-N-substituted glycine peptidomimetics that emulate the structure and function of natural antimicrobial peptides but are resistant to proteases. We demonstrate antiviral activity of a new peptoid (TM9) against the coronavirus, murine hepatitis virus (MHV), as a closely related model for the structure and antiviral susceptibility profile of SARS-CoV-2. This peptoid mimics the human cathelicidin LL-37, which has also been shown to have antimicrobial and antiviral activity. In this study, TM9 was effective against three murine coronavirus strains, demonstrating that the therapeutic window is large enough to allow the use of TM9 for treatment. All three isolates of MHV generated infection in mice after 15 min of exposure by aerosol using the Madison aerosol chamber, and all three viral strains could be isolated from the lungs throughout the 5-day observation period post-infection, with the peak titers on day 2. MHV-A59 and MHV-A59-GFP were also isolated from the liver, heart, spleen, olfactory bulbs, and brain. These data demonstrate that MHV serves as a valuable natural murine model of coronavirus pathogenesis in multiple organs, including the brain.

Abstract: The PHENIX experiment has performed a systematic study of identified charged-hadron ($\pi^\pm$, $K^\pm$, $p$, $\bar{p}$) production at midrapidity in $p$$+$Al, $^3$He$+$Au, Cu$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV and U$+$U collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=193$ GeV. Identified charged-hadron invariant transverse-momentum ($p_T$) and transverse-mass ($m_T$) spectra are presented and interpreted in terms of radially expanding thermalized systems. The particle ratios of $K/\pi$ and $p/\pi$ have been measured in different centrality ranges of large (Cu$+$Au, U$+$U) and small ($p$$+$Al, $^3$He$+$Au) collision systems. The values of $K/\pi$ ratios measured in all considered collision systems were found to be consistent with those measured in $p$$+$$p$ collisions. However the values of $p/\pi$ ratios measured in large collision systems reach the values of $\approx0.6$, which is $\approx2$ times larger than in $p$$+$$p$ collisions. These results can be qualitatively understood in terms of the baryon enhancement expected from hadronization by recombination. Identified charged-hadron nuclear-modification factors ($R_{AB}$) are also presented. Enhancement of proton $R_{AB}$ values over meson $R_{AB}$ values was observed in central $^3$He$+$Au, Cu$+$Au, and U$+$U collisions. The proton $R_{AB}$ values measured in $p$$+$Al collision system were found to be consistent with $R_{AB}$ values of $\phi$, $\pi^\pm$, $K^\pm$, and $\pi^0$ mesons, which may indicate that the size of the system produced in $p$$+$Al collisions is too small for recombination to cause a noticeable increase in proton production., Comment: 480 authors from 78 institutions, 18 pages, 6 tables, 16 figures. v2 is version accepted for publication in Physical Review C.
