3. Hadath: From Social Media Mapping to Multi-Resolution Event-Enriched Maps

Abstract

Publicly available data is increasing rapidly, and will continue to grow with the advancement of technologies in sensors, smartphones and the Internet of Things. Data from multiple sources can improve coverage and provide more relevant knowledge about surrounding events and points of Interest. The strength of one source of data can compensate for the shortcomings of another source by providing supplementary information. Maps are also getting popular day-by-day and people are using it to achieve their daily task smoothly and efficiently. Starting from paper maps hundred years ago, multiple type of maps are available with point of interest, real-time traffic update or displaying micro-blogs from social media. In this paper, we introduce Hadath, a system that displays multi-resolution live events of interest from a variety of available data sources. The system has been designed to be able to handle multiple type of inputs by encapsulating incoming unstructured data into generic data packets. System extracts local events of interest from generic data packets and identify their spatio-temporal scope to display such events on a map, so that as a user changes the zoom level, only events of appropriate scope are displayed. This allows us to show live events in correspondence to the scale of view - when viewing at a city scale, we see events of higher significance, while zooming in to a neighbourhood, events of a more local interest are highlighted. The final output creates a unique and dynamic map browsing experience. Abstract

In this paper, a general moving object trajectories framework is put forward to allow independent applications processing trajectories data benefit from a high level of interoperability, information sharing as well as an efficient answer for a wide range of complex trajectory queries. Abstract

The rapid expansion of the world's population has resulted in an increased demand for agricultural products which necessitates the need to improve crop yields. To enhance crop yields, it is imperative to control weeds. Traditionally, weed control predominantly relied on the use of herbicides; however, the indiscriminate application of herbicides presents potential hazards to both crop health and productivity. Fortunately, the advent of cutting-edge technologies such as unmanned vehicle technology (UAVs) and computer vision has provided automated and efficient solutions for weed control. These approaches leverage drone images to detect and identify weeds with a certain level of accuracy. Nevertheless, the identification of weeds in drone images poses significant challenges attributed to factors like occlusion, variations in color and texture, and disparities in scale. The utilization of traditional image processing techniques and deep learning approaches, which are commonly employed in existing methods, presents difficulties in extracting features and addressing scale variations. In order to address these challenges, an innovative deep learning framework is introduced which is designed to classify every pixel in a drone image into categories such as weed, crop, and others. In general, our proposed network adopts an encoder–decoder structure. The encoder component of the network effectively combines the Dense-inception network with the Atrous spatial pyramid pooling module, enabling the extraction of multi-scale features and capturing local and global contextual information seamlessly. The decoder component of the network incorporates deconvolution layers and attention units, namely, channel and spatial attention units (CnSAUs), which contribute to the restoration of spatial information and enhance the precise localization of weeds and crops in the images. The performance of the proposed framework is assessed using a publicly available benchmark dataset known for its complexity. The effectiveness of the proposed framework is demonstrated via comprehensive experiments, showcasing its superiority by achieving a 0.81 mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) on the challenging dataset. 50. Towards a reactive system for managing big trajectory data

Abstract

Spatio-temporal events often describe the movements of an object in terms of space, time, and potential other attributes. Significant knowledge can be inferred by analysing them, either individually or atomically in form of trajectories. The trajectories can abstract additional properties and lead to deeper value. Moreover, external contextual information can be attributed to them to change their structure and lead to different perspectives. Because of this potentially valuable knowledge, nowadays indoor and outdoor tracking devices are used everywhere; generating countless events instantaneously. However, the extraction of knowledge from such heterogeneous, massive data is not a trivial task. In other terms, there is a need for a sophisticated system that is efficient in terms of distributed computing, failure handling, responsiveness, and abstraction. To answer this need, our study incorporates a fully fledged, reactive system for big trajectory data management. The system is unique of its kind because it is actor-based and features responsiveness, resiliency, and elasticity. Furthermore, our system is implemented using Scala; hence, we have the expressive power of both the Object-Oriented (OO) and Functional Programming (FP) paradigms. Allowing us to reach a higher level of abstraction to be able to process any trajectory type. The scope of this paper is to detail our system and discuss elasticity, routing strategies, load balancing, and our proper fault-tolerance mechanism. To fulfill this study, we consider the Geolife project’s GPS trajectory dataset.
