The present study was aimed to investigate the effect of photon flux density and silver nitrate either alone or in combination on in-vitro micro-propagation of banana cv. Grand Nain (AAA). Five different concentrations of silver nitrate (0 to 68 µM) and PFD (0-55 µmol m-2 s-1) were assessed. Plantlets were grown in culture room at 24±2°C with 16±8 h photoperiod. Highest number of bud formation was observed in explant cultured in bud establishment medium (MBE) medium supplemented with AgNO3 (34 µM) and placed under dark condition. Additionally maximum bud break was observed in the pre developed buds exposed to PFD of 45 µmolm-2s-1. Maximum shoot and root elongation was observed in shoot elongation medium supplemented with AgNO3 (34 µM) under 50 µmolm-2s-1 of photon flux density. Light quality also affected the total chlorophyll and phenolic content. Incorporation of silver nitrate in the culture medium reduced tissue browning and precocious rooting. Darkness and low light intensity significantly reduce precocious rooting in buds and resulted in albino effect in elongated shoots. However, high light intensity increased shoot proliferation and shoot elongation. The results obtained could be valuable for rapid and mass multiplication of banana to fulfilling the demand of Cavendish sub-group. Simultaneously the substitution of fluorescent lights with light emitting diode (LED) will be cost effective and result in cost saving of annual electricity consumption. The Total Phenolic Content (TPC), antioxidant and antibacterial activities of methanolic extract of Marigold flower (MF) (Tagetes erecta) and Beet root (BR) (Beta vulgaris) were examined. The present work reveals that MF contained greater amount of TPC (42.5 mg/g GAE) as compared to BR (39.4 mg/g GAE). Methanolic extract of MF exhibited excellent DPPH free radical scavenging power (IC50 0.0716 mg/mL) and reducing power at 1 mg/mL concentration. Similar results have been obtained in FTC and TBA method. The results of antibacterial test indicated that the methanolic extract of MF and BR is significantly effective against both type of Gram-negative (Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae) and Gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus) bacterial strains. Therefore, the present study suggests that the Marigold and BR are promising source of herbal medicinal products with noteworthy antioxidant and antibacterial activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work was carried out for green synthesis of silver nanoparticles and investigation of its antibacterial activity. Rosa indica is of considerable interest and is well known compound because of its antioxidant, antidibetic, anti-inflammantry, antimicrobial activities. In the present study rapid and facile synthesis of silver nanoparticles at room temperature has been shown. On addition of plant extracts to Silver nitrate solution the change in color of the reaction mixture was obsereved which proved the formation of nanoparticles. Further, the green synthesised silver nanoparticles were characterized UV-Vis spectrophotometer, XRD analysis, FTIR, DLS, SEM with EDX. The average particles size of silver nanoparticles show between 1-100 nm through DLS anaylsis. Antibacterial activity of the Silver nanoparticles was evaluated by testing against Gram negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and Gram positive(Bacillus subtilis) bacteria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
