Abstract

The hypothesis that the majority of former Laventhol and Horwath (L and H) clients sought out the big six auditing firms is tested. Results show that following the bankruptcy of L and H, the big six firms were barely successful in obtaining former L and H-audited companies as clients. The smaller auditing firms ably secured the smaller companies as clients. Lastly, the bankruptcy of L and H signals auditing firms to be careful with client-selection standards.
