Objective Background Suicide has become a major public health issue of global concern. Suicidal ideation represents the initial psychological and one of the strongest predictorsactivities associated with suicidal behavior. Suicidal ideation is a dynamic state factor rather than a static trait factor, so it is necessary to study the development trajectory of suicidal ideation and its related factors. Objective To investigate the development trajectory and relatedfactors of suicide ideation college students. Methods From 2019 to 2021,1438 college students in a university in Guangdong Province were selected for three longitudinal tracking each October by using the method of convenient sampling. The Self - rating ideas of suicide scale(SIOSS) was used to measure the level of suicide ideation. Data analysis was mainly based on the Latent Growth Mixed Model(LGMM) to analyze the development trajectory of students' suicide ideation. Multivariate Logistic Regression model was established to analyze the related factors to the variation of each potential category of suicidal ideation. Results From 2019 to 2021, the total scores of college students' suicidal ideation were 3. 79 ± 2. 87, 3. 71 ± 2. 90 and 3. 32 ± 2. 87, showing a decreasing trend over time. The development tendencies of college students' suicide ideation have been classified into 3 categories: Cl group (worsening suicidal ideation group) (11.8%), C2 group (persistent low suicidal ideation group) (79.6%), and C3 group (relieving suicidal ideation group) (8.6%). Compared with Cl group, college students who had an average (OR = 2. 52, 95% CI: 1. 31 -4. 86)or happy childhood (OR = 3. 95,95% CI: 2. 02 - 7. 74), no history of suicide attempt (OR = 9. 03, 95% CI: 3, 49 - 23. 36), and were extroverted (OR = 1. 03, 95% C/: 1. 01 - 1. 05) were more likely to enter C2 group. Students who were from cities (OR = 0. 54, 95% CI: 0, 31 - 0. 93), got high neuroticism scores (OR = 0. 86, 95% CI: 0, 84 - 0. 88) were less likely to enter the C2 group. College students with happy childhood life(OR = 3. 29, 95% CI: L 40 - 7. 74) were more likely to enter the C3 group, but students from cities (OR 二 0. 37, 95% C/;0. 18 - 0. 78) were less likely to enter the C3 group. Conclusion The development tendencies of college students' suicide ideation can be classified into three categories: worsening suicidal ideation group, persistent low suicidal ideation group, and relieving suicidal ideation group. Mandatory policies for waste separation may induce residents’ psychological reactance, which always manifests as multiple negative emotions. This psychological reaction changes dynamically and may continuously harm municipal waste management. However, how this psychological reactance changes over time and how we can intervene in it still lacks exploration. To bridge this gap, the development trends of psychological reactance for different residents and the intervention effects of information publicity were theoretically analyzed based on psychological reactance theory and persuasion theory. A four-times tracing questionnaire survey of 200 general residents from Shanghai was launched, and the data were statistically analyzed using latent variable mixed growth modeling. The results show that: (1) Mandatory policies for waste separation can lead to three trends of psychological reactance among residents: growth mode, decline mode, and inverted U mode. The latter two of these categories account for a greater proportion of the population and may be influenced by values and cultural background. (2) In all three modes, normative and knowledge-based information publicity have a mitigating effect on the growing trend of psychological reactance, while the effect on their initial state is not significant. (3) The changing trend of residents’ psychological reactance to waste separation is dynamic. Information publicity can effectively alleviate the trend of residents’ psychological reactance. The findings provide a dynamic perspective on the negative outcomes of mandatory waste separation policies and are helpful for the government to develop more appropriate policies and interventions. Aim Design Methods Results Conclusion Impact Patient or Public Contribution To investigate the trajectory patterns and influencing factors of supportive care needs in stroke patients.A longitudinal study.In total, 207 stroke patients who received treatment at the Department of Neurology in a hospital in Xuzhou between July 2022 and July 2023 were recruited using convenience sampling. Questionnaires including supportive care needs, hospital anxiety and depression scale, and the Barthel index were investigated at baseline and at 1, 3, and 6 months. A latent class growth model was applied to identify the supportive care needs trajectories. Multiple logistic regression was used to determine the predictors for membership. This study adheres to STROBE reporting guidelines.Three patterns of supportive care needs trajectories were identified: A high needs slow decline group (20.8%), a medium needs stable group (56.5%) and a medium needs rapid decline group (22.7%). Based on further analysis, the findings indicated that age, education level, monthly income, comorbidity, activities of daily living, anxiety and depression were associated with the trajectory categories of supportive care needs with stroke patients.This study demonstrates heterogeneity in changes in supportive care needs among stroke patients. Healthcare providers need to consider these different categories of needs and develop individualized care measures based on the characteristics of different patients.Healthcare providers should be aware of the fluctuations in care needs of stroke patients at various stages. Background: Despite the growing attention given to adolescent behavior problems, little is known about the trajectories and factors that have influenced adolescent procrastination during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study monitors changes in procrastination behavior among Chinese adolescents during the pandemic and identifies vulnerable groups. Methods: A four-wave study using a representative sample of 11-to 18-year-olds in China was conducted, with baseline data collected in June 2020 (n = 4,156; 49% girls) and follow-ups in December 2020 (n = 3,392; 50% girls), August 2021 (n = 2,380; 48% girls), and October 2021 (n = 1,485; 49% girls). Procrastination behavior was assessed using the General Procrastination Scale. Latent growth curve models, latent growth mixture modes, and multivariate logistic regression models were used to describe the trajectory of procrastination and identify predictors of deterioration. Results: The proportion and overall trends of adolescent procrastination increased with the pandemic. Higher parental over-protection was a contributing factor to the higher baseline levels leading to the faster growth of adolescent procrastination. The model identified three distinct trajectories of lowincreasing [including 2,057 participants (49.5%)], moderate-stable [including 1,879 participants (45.2%)], and high-decreasing procrastination [including 220 participants (5.3%)]. More daily leisure screen-time, lower frequency of exercise weekly, and dissatisfaction with distance learning were the top three risk factors for moderate-stable and high-decreasing procrastination compared to low-increasing procrastination. Adolescents with mothers with a higher level of education were more liable to be high-decreasing procrastination than moderate-stable procrastination. Conclusion: The proportion and overall trends of adolescent procrastination increased with the pandemic. The categories of procrastination among adolescents during that time period were probed. Also, the study further clarified the risk factors for severe and moderate procrastination relative to no procrastination. Background: Disease progression in Alzheimer's Dementia (AD) is typically characterized by accelerated cognitive and functional decline, where heterogeneous trajectories can impact the observed treatment response., Methods: We hypothesized that unobserved heterogeneity could obscure treatment benefits in AD. The effect of unobserved heterogeneity was empirically quantified within the Alzheimer's Management By Albumin Replacement (AMBAR) phase 2b trial data. The ADAS-Cog 12 cognition endpoint was reanalyzed in a 2-class latent growth mixture model initially fit to the treatment arm. The model with the best fit was then applied across both treatment arms to a larger (n=1000) simulated dataset that was representative of AMBAR trial cognitive data., Results: Two classes of patients were observed: a stable cognitive trajectory class and a highly variable class. Removal of the latter (n=48, 22%) from the analysis and refitting efficacy models comparing the stable class to full placebo yielded significant treatment efficacy on cognition (p=0.007, Cohen's D=-0.4). Comparison of the stable class of each arm within the simulated dataset revealed a significant difference in treatment efficacy favoring the simulated stable treatment arm., Conclusion: This post hoc exploratory analysis suggests that prespecified strategies for addressing unobserved heterogeneity may yield improved effect detection in AD trials. The generalizability of the analytic strategy is limited by latent stratification in only the treatment arm, a requirement given the small placebo arm in AMBAR. Objective This study aims to identify distinct patterns of 10-year multimorbidity trajectory among Korean older adults and examine factors associated with the patterns. Methods Data were drawn from the six waves of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA, 2006–2016). We examined trajectories of multimorbidity of 1,705 older adults aged 65 and older using Growth Mixture Modeling. Then, the identified patterns were used as dependent variables to examine the correlates of multimorbidity trajectories. Explanatory variables considered were sociodemographic, psychological, health behavioural and interpersonal factors at baseline. Results Four distinct patterns of multimorbidity trajectories were identified: 'maintaining-low' (59.4%), 'chronically-high' (7.5%), 'moderately-increasing' (26.0%) and 'rapidly- increasing' (7.1%). Gender, depressive symptoms, life satisfaction and frequency of contacts with others were associated with trajectory membership. Specifically, women were more likely to be in the 'chronically-high' group than any other groups. Compared to the 'maintaining-low' group, those with higher levels of depressive symptoms and lower levels of life satisfaction were more likely to belong to the 'chronically-high' group and 'moderately-increasing' group, respectively. Respondents who had less frequent meetings with others in close relationships were more likely to be in the 'rapidly-increasing' group than the 'maintaining-low' group. Discussion These findings are suggestive of distinct trajectories of multimorbidity across older adulthood, indicating that multimorbidity experiences might differ among older adults. Moreover, results suggest that there may be gender inequalities in multimorbidity trajectories, and that levels of psychological well-being and social engagement could be useful in identifying older adults who are at higher risk of worsening multimorbidity. Background: Despite the accumulating evidence on the role of professional helping relationships for highly disadvantaged populations, methodological shortcomings have made it difficult to establish a robust relationships-outcomes link. This study sought to establish the impact of professional helping relationships on the trajectories over 24 months of housing stability for 2141 people facing severe and multiple disadvantage using data from the Housing First controlled trial in Canada.Method: The study used a mixed method design. Latent growth curve and growth mixture models assessed the impact of working alliance across the sample as a whole and within subgroups with different patterns of housing stability. Thematic analysis explored the factors that may affect the quality of working alliances within different subgroups.Results: Three distinct trajectories of housing stability emerged (i.e., Class 1: "sharp rise, sustained, and decline housing"; Class 2: "hardly any time housed"; Class 3: "high rise, sustained, and decline housing") with professional helping relationships having different effects in each. The analysis revealed structural and individual circumstances that may explain differences among the classes.Conclusions: The findings underscore the role of professional helping relationships, as distinct from services, in major interventions for highly disadvantaged populations, and draws new attention to the temporal patterns of responses to both the quality of relationship and targeted interventions. There is evidence that poverty is related to adverse child health outcomes. Yet, evidence is lacking on how economic hardship experiences during early childhood are related to adolescent obesity, how the relationship may differ by child sex, in addition to the potential child and maternal behavioral factors that link economic hardship and adolescent obesity. The purpose of the current study was to address this gap by using longitudinal data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study (N = 1814). The analytic sample included 50.5% girls, 20% experiencing overweight status, and 19% experiencing obesity. Majority of the adolescents were born to non-Hispanic black (49%), U.S. born (86%), married/cohabitating mothers (61%) with high school or greater level of education (75%). The economic hardship trajectory classes were determined using the latent growth mixture modeling approach and supported a 4-class trajectory model, with 5% of the adolescents in the high-increasing economic hardship trajectory class. The children in the high-increasing economic hardship class had increased odds of developing overweight/obesity in adolescence compared to those in low-stable class. This association was significantly moderated by child sex (i.e., relationship was significant for adolescent boys). Parenting stress and child snacking behaviors did not significantly mediate the association between economic hardship classes and overweight/obesity. Purpose: To examine changes in anxiety over time (trajectories) in men with prostate cancer faced with a decision to participate in a clinical trial and to identify demographic and study variables that predict these trajectories.Methods: Our data come from a larger study examining the efficacy of a decision aid on decisional conflict in men with prostate cancer who were deciding whether to participate in a prostate cancer clinical trial. We used latent growth mixture models to identify 'classes' (i.e. groups) of participants with different trajectories of anxiety, as assessed by the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory state scale, and binary logistic regression to determine predictors of anxiety 'class'.Results: In 128 men with prostate cancer (mean age = 63), growth mixture modelling identified two classes defined by different anxiety trajectories. One class (n = 27) started with a higher mean anxiety score and did not change over time (stable high), whereas the second class (n = 101) started with lower anxiety and significantly reduced over time (low and recovering). None of the demographic and study variables (including age, education, marital status, and decision to join the trial) was predictive of anxiety class.Conclusions: Men treated for prostate cancer who have high levels of anxiety after surgery may continue to have persistent high anxiety levels which do not reduce naturally over time. Patient or disease characteristics do not appear to predict anxiety. It is important, therefore, to monitor for anxiety in this population and refer for psychological interventions where required. Objective: The purpose of this study is twofold: first, to identify cognitive trajectories of older Koreans in a population-based longitudinal panel survey and, second, to investigate the main characteristics of the identified heterogeneous classes of cognitive trajectories.Methods: Data came from 2445 cognitively healthy persons aged 60 or older in the 2006 to 2012 Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging. Using Korean-mini mental status examination (K-MMSE) as a measure of global cognitive function, the latent growth mixture modeling approach examined potential heterogeneity of longitudinal changes over the 6 years.Results: This study found that older Koreans reported an average K-MMSE score of 27 at baseline and experienced a cognitive decline every 2 years by -1.6 (2006-2008) and -1.2 (2008-2010), followed by a slight increase of 0.7 in 2012. Results from the latent growth mixture modeling analysis indicated that there were 2 heterogeneous classes of longitudinal changes in the K-MMSE over a period of 6 years: class 1 with stable cognitive function and class 2 with sharp cognitive decline over time. The sharp decline was found among those older in age and with higher level of depression at baseline. On the contrary, being male, higher education, active social engagement, and regular exercise were main characteristics of stable cognitive function.Conclusion: As the first to examine cognitive trajectories among older Koreans, this study highlighted heterogeneity of cognitive trajectories in the population that should be considered for developing differential intervention strategies aimed at both promoting healthy brain and delaying/preventing cognitive decline. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a serious mental illness that affects current and former military service members at a disproportionately higher rate than the civilian population. Prior studies have shown that PTSD symptoms follow multiple trajectories in civilians and military personnel. The current study examines whether the trajectories of PTSD symptoms of veterans separated from the military are similar to continuously serving military personnel. The Millennium Cohort Study is a population-based study of military service members that commenced in 2001 with follow-up assessments occurring approximately every 3 years thereafter. PTSD symptoms were assessed at each time point using the PTSD Checklist. Latent growth mixture modeling was used to compare PTSD symptom trajectories between personnel who separated (veterans; n = 5292) and personnel who remained in military service (active duty; n = 16,788). Four distinct classes (resilient, delayed-onset, improving, and elevated-recovering) described PTSD symptoms trajectories in both veterans and active duty personnel. Trajectory shapes were qualitatively similar between active duty and veterans. However, within the resilient, improving, and elevated recovering classes, the shapes were statistically different. Although the low-symptom class was the most common in both groups (veterans: 82%; active duty: 87%), veterans were more likely to be classified in the other three classes (in all cases, p < 0.01). By examining the outcome trajectories of the dropout patients with different reasons in the schizophrenia trials, we note that although patients are recruited from the same protocol that have compatible baseline characteristics, they may respond differently even to the same treatment. Some patients show consistent improvement while others only have temporary relief. This creates different patient subpopulations characterized by their response and dropout patterns. At the same time, those who continue to improve seem to be more likely to complete the study while those who only experience temporary relief have a higher chance to drop out. Such phenomenon appears to be quite general in schizophrenia clinical trials. This simultaneous inhomogeneity both in patient response as well as dropout patterns creates a scenario of missing not at random and therefore results in biases when we use the statistical methods based on the missing at random assumption to test treatment efficacy. In this paper, we propose to use the latent class growth mixture model, which is a special case of the latent mixture model, to conduct the statistical analyses in such situation. This model allows us to take the inhomogeneity among subpopulations into consideration to make more accurate inferences on the treatment effect at any visit time. Comparing with the conventional statistical methods such as mixed-effects model for repeated measures, we demonstrate through simulations that the proposed latent mixture model approach gives better control on the Type I error rate in testing treatment effect. Abstract: Objective: Negative affect has been purported to play an important role in the etiology and maintenance of bulimic behaviors. The objective of this study was to identify daily mood patterns in the natural environment exhibited by individuals with bulimia nervosa and to examine the relationship between these patterns and bulimic behaviors. Method: One hundred thirty-three women aged 18–55 meeting DSM-IV criteria for bulimia nervosa were recruited through clinical referrals and community advertisements. Ecological momentary assessment was used to collect multiple ratings of negative affect, binge eating and purging each day for a two-week period using palmtop computers. Latent growth mixture modeling was used to identify daily mood patterns. Results: Nine distinct daily mood patterns were identified. The highest rates of binge eating and purging episodes occurred on days characterized by stable high negative affect or increasing negative affect over the course of the day. Conclusions: These findings support the conclusion that negative mood states are intimately tied to bulimic behaviors and may in fact precipitate such behavior. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Recent advances in statistical techniques for longitudinal data analysis have provided increased capabilities for elucidating individual differences in trajectories of change in child behaviours and abilities. However, most techniques still assume that there is a single underlying distribution with respect to changes over time, about which children are normally distributed. If there are multiple subgroups of youth following distinct developmental trajectories with unique predictors, however, the results of these statistical techniques may provide an incomplete analysis of the data. A newer class of statistical techniques, latent growth mixture modelling, provides a robust framework for examining heterogeneity in patterns of development. This paper illustrates the use of latent growth mixture modelling for examining heterogeneity in developmental trajectories of adolescent antisocial behaviour. Objective: To investigate the heterogeneity of the developmental trajectory of posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms (PTS) among children and adolescents after Lushan earthquake and to explore the effect of gender and age on the trajectory., Methods: A total of 1 623 participants completed three assessments at 2 weeks, 3 months and 6 months after the earthquake. Latent growth mixture model (LGMM) was used for statistical analysis in the software Mplus 8.0., Results: The PTS developmental trajectories among children and adolescents exposed to the earthquake had four categories: the normal stress group (31.1%, class 1), the persistent impairment group (4.5%, class 2), the psychological recovery group (46.8%, class 3) and the persistent mild symptom group (17.6%, class 4). The PTS development trajectories were significantly different in two gender groups, and the proportion of girls in the persistently injured group was higher than other three groups.
