Bu çalışmada, Nevşehir ili, Tahar ve Güzelöz yörelerinde yüzeylenen ve volkanizmaya bağlı olarakoluşan geç Miyosen-Pliyosen yaşlı volkanosedimenter birimler içerisinde yer alan diyatomitlerinendüstriyel hammadde olarak kullanım alanları araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla, inceleme alanında, biriTahar yöresinde (TK), ikisi Güzelöz yöresinde (GÜ1 ve GÜ2) olmak üzere 3 adet stratigrafık kesitölçülmüştür. Örneklere çeşitli fi zikomekanik, kimyasal, mineralojik ve analitik testler uygulanmışve bu testlerin sonucunda, inceleme alanında yer alan her üç lokasyondaki diyatomitlerin asitteçözünmeyen madde miktarları; %74,20 - 84,20, suda çözünmeyen madde miktarları; %99,80, ateşkaybı değerleri (950°C de); %8,18 - 22,82, beyazlık değerleri; %80,45 - 84,79, ortalama dane boyudeğerleri; 0,7-209 μ , gözenek boyutları; 1,448 e-03A-5,888 e-04A, gözenek hacimleri; 1,148e-02-8,515 e-02 cc/g , özgül ağırlık değerleri; 2,33-2,49 gr/ cm3 , toplam gözeneklilikleri; %57-60, kümülatif yüzey alanı değerleri; 4,047 e+01-5,160 e+01 m2/g, pH değerleri; 5-7 (asit ve nötrortamı yansıttıkları), süzme hızı değerleri; 138-351 ml/dk, SiO2 içerikleri; %38,16-67,77 olarakbelirlenmiştir. Örneklerin palinolojik malzeme içermedikleri, genel olarak uzun, iri diatom cinsve türlerinden meydana geldikleri saptanmıştır. Analiz sonuçlarının değerlendirilmesi sonucunda,her üç lokasyonda yer alan diyatomitlerin yapı malzemesi, taşıyıcı, aşındırıcı ve temizleyici,yalıtım malzemesi olarak kullanıma uygun olmadıkları, Tahar ve Güzelöz-1 lokasyonlarında yeralan diyatomitlerin aynı zamanda genel olarak dolgu maddesi olarak da kullanılamayacaklarıbelirlenmiştir. Bunun yanında, inceleme alanındaki diyatomitler silikat imalatında ve SiO2yönünden zenginleştirmeye tabi tutularak süzücülerde kullanıma uygundurlar. Ayrıca, Güzelöz-2lokasyonunda yer alan diyatomitler lastik ve kağıt sanayinde dolgu maddesi olarak kullanılabilirler., In this study, utilization of Tahar-Güzelöz (Nevşehir) diatomites occurring within the late MiocenePliocene age vocanosedimentary units which formed due to volcanism and outcropping in Tahar and Güzelöz (Nevşehir) areas were investigated. In the study area, three stratigraphic sections were measured, one of which was measured in the Tahar area (TK), and the two others were measured in the Güzelöz area (GÜ1 and GÜ2). Various physicomechanical, chemical, mineralogical and analytical methods were used on the samples. Analyses results of the diatomites in the investigated area were determined as follow; amount of acid-insoluble matters; 74,20 - 84,20 %, amount of waterinsoluble matters; 99,80 %, loss on ignition ratios (950°C de); 8,18 - 22,82 %, whitenesses; 80,45 - 84,79 %, particle sizes; 0,7-209 μ , pore sizes; 1,448 e-03A-5,888 e-04A, pore volumes; 1,148 e-02 -8,515 e-02 cc/g , specifi c gravities; 2,33-2,49 gr/ cm3 , total porosities; 57 –60 %, cumulative specifi c surface areas; 4,047 e+01-5,160 e+01 m2 /g, pH; 5-7 (acit and neutral), fi ltration rates; 138-351 ml/dk, SiO2 contents; 38,16-67,77 %. It was determined that, the samples are not contain palinological material and these generally formed from long and large diatom genus and species. The evaluation of the analyses results showed that, none of the three location’s diatomites is suitable as construction material, carrier, mild abrasive and cleaner, isolution material. At the same time, determined that, the Tahar and Güzelöz–1 location’s diatomites can not be used as fi ller material. In addition, it was determined that, the subject diatomites can be used in the manufacture of silicate, and in percolator by the enrichment in terms SiO2 . Also, Güzelöz-2 location’s diatomites can be used as fi ller material in the rubber and paper industries.

Bu çalışmada, Nevşehir ili, Ürgüp ilçesi, Karacaören Yöresi'nde yüzeylenen ve Orta Anadolu Volkanizmasına bağlı olarak oluşan diyatomitlerin fizikokimyasal özellikleri ve kullanım alanları araştırılmıştır. İnceleme alanında, birisi Kuvaterner yaşlı göl çökelleri içerisinde (K1), diğeri geç MiyosenPliyosen yaşlı Ürgüp formasyonu'nun Bayramhacılı üyesi içerisinde yer alan göl çökellerinden (K2) olmak üzere 2 adet stratigrafik kesit ölçülmüştür. İnceleme alanında yer alan diyatomitlerin fizikokimyasal özelliklerini ve kullanım alanlarını belirlemek amacıyla araziden alınan örneklere Maden Tetkik ve Arama Genel Müdürlüğü (MTA) Laboratuvarı'nda ateş kaybı (1050 °C de), XRD, asitte ve suda çözünmeyen madde miktarı, ısı iletkenliği (101; 150 °C de ve ± 10 °C de), XRF, pH, toplam gözeneklilik, yoğunluk, özgül yüzey alanı, gözenek hacmi, gözenek boyutu, beyazlık, dane boyu ve SEM analizleri yaptırılmış, analiz sonuçlarının değerlendirilmesi sonucunda, çalışılan diyatomitlerin ticari değerlerinin olduğu, süzücülerde, dolgu ve yapı maddesi olarak ve silikat imalatında doğrudan, hafif aşındırıcı ve temizleyici olarak ve yalıtım maddesi yapımında ise işleme tabii tutularak kullanılabilecekleri ortaya konulmuştur, In this study, physicochemical properties and uses of diatomites which are formed due to Central Anatolia volcanism and outcropping in Karacaören (Ürgüp country, Nevşehir) area were investigated. Two stratigraphic sections were measured in the investigated area, one of these sections was measured in the Quaternary lake units (K1), and the other section was measured in the lacustrine sediments of late Miocene-Pliocene Ürgüp Formation's Bayramhacılı Member (K2). The specify to physicochemical properties and uses of study area's diatomite, loss on ignition (1050 °C), XRD, amount of acid and water-insoluble matter, thermal conductivity (in the range of 101; 150 °C and ± 10 °C), XRF, pH, total porosity, specific gravity, specific surface area, pore volume, pore size, whiteness, particle size and SEM analysis were carried out at the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration Laboratories on the samples collected from the area. The evaluation of the analyses results showed that, the subject diatomites have commercial value and it can be used directly in percolator, as a filler and structuring agents and in the manufacture of silicate. In addition, it can be used as mild abrasive and cleaner, in the manifacture of isolution material after processing

Güney, Ayşegül (Aksaray, Yazar), Taşkınpaşa (Nevşehir) yöresinde yüzeylenen geç Miyosen-Pliyosen yaşlı volkanosedimenter birimler içerisinde yer alan diyatomitlerin diyatom topluluğu ve paleoortamsal özelliklerini incelemek için Taşkınpaşa yöresinden ölçülen stratigrafik kesitten derlenen örneklerden 18 cinse ait 21 diyatom türü tanımlanmıştır. Tanımlanan türler içerisinde pennat formların, sentrik formlara göre daha bol olduğu ve göl suyunun tatlı su özelliğinde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Tanımlanan diyatom cins ve türlerinin derlenen örneklerdeki sayısal dağılımlarının değerlendirilmesi sonucunda; Taşkınpaşa yöresi diyatomitlerinin oluşumu sırasında göldeki su seviyesinin düşük olduğu, başlangıçta göl tabanının çamurlu, daha sonra ise bitkilerle kaplı olduğu, göl suyunun başlangıçta oligotrofik özellikte olduğu, zaman içerisinde önce ötrofik daha sonra da mesotrofik özellik kazandığı, besin miktarının ölçülü kesitin taban ve üst seviyelerinde yüksek, orta seviyelerinde ise orta düzeyde olduğu, pH değerinin pH >7 şeklinde (bazik) olduğu ve oksijen oranının orta seviyede bulunduğu belirlenmiştir., Twenty-one diatom species of 18 genera were identified from the samples which were collected from stratigraphic section in Taşkınpaşa (Nevşehir) area which is taken places in late Miocene-Pliocene aged volcanosedimentary units. It was determined that pennate forms are more abundant than centric forms within the defined species and the lake water has fresh water properties in this location. As a result of the quantitative evaluation of the identified diatom genera and species distributions in the collected samples; it have been determined that, in Taşkınpaşa area, during the formation of the diatomite deposits, lake water’s level was low, the bottom of the lake was initially muddy later covered with plants, lake water was initially in oligotrophic properties later changed into eutrophic and mesotrophic characteristics in time, the nutrient ratio of lake water was high in bottom and upper levels of the section but it was moderate at the middle level of the section. The lake water indicates alkaline (pH >7) properties. Oxygen ratio of the lake water was in middle level.

Bu tez çalışmasında, Taşkınpaşa (Nevşehir) ve İncesu (Kayseri) yörelerinde yüzeylenen geç Miyosen-Pliyosen yaşlı volkanosedimenter birimler içerisinde yeralan diyatomitlerin diyatom topluluğu ve paleoortamsal özellikleri incelenmiştir. İnceleme alanında 1 adet Taşkınpaşa yöresinden ve 1 adet İncesu yöresinden olmak üzere toplam 2 adet stratigrafik kesit ölçülmüştür. Ölçülen kesitlerden toplamda 14 adet örnek alınmış ve örneklerden Taşkınpaşa ve İncesu lokasyonlarında toplam 19 diyatom cinsine ait 26 tür tanımlanmıştır. Her iki lokasyondan tanımlanan türler içerisinde pennat formların, sentrik formlara göre daha bol olduğu ve göl suyunun tatlı su özelliğinde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Taşkınpaşa lokasyonunda; diyatomitlerin oluşumu sırasında göldeki su seviyesinin düşük olduğu, zaman içerisinde önce eutroph daha sonrada mesotroph özellik kazandığı, besin miktarının ölçülü kesitin taban ve üst seviyelerinde yüksek, ölçülü kesitin orta seviyelerinde ise orta düzeyde olduğu, pH değerinin pH >7 şeklinde (bazik özellikte) olduğu, oksijen oranının orta seviyede bulunduğu belirlenmiştir. İncesu lokasyonunda; diyatomitlerin oluşumu sırasında göldeki su seviyesinin yüksek olduğu, besin miktarının ölçülü kesitin tabanında düşük olduğu, ölçülü kesitin orta ve üst seviyelerinde ise yüksek düzeyde olduğu, pH değerinin kesitin tabanında pH=7 (nötr) veya pH7 (bazik) özellik kazandığı, oksijen oranının başlangıçta düşük seviyede bulunduğu belirlenmiştir., In this thesis study, diatom community and palaeoenvironmental characteristics of Taşkınpaşa (Nevşehir) and İncesu (Kayseri) diatomites were examined which are taken places in late Miocene–Pliocene aged volcanosedimentary units. Totaly two stratigraphic sections were measured in the study area. One of these sections was measured from Taşkınpaşa region and the other section was measured from İncesu region. A total of 14 samples were taken from the measured sections and 26 species of 19 different diatom genera were identified in Taşkınpaşa and İncesu locations. Lake water's oxygen ratio was initially low level.

Environmental conditions in one of Earth's most densely populated regions, East Asia, are dominated by the monsoon. While Quaternary monsoon variability is reasonably well understood, pre-Quaternary monsoon variability and dynamics remain enigmatic. In particular, little is known about potential relationships between northern hemispheric monsoon response and major Cenozoic changes in Antarctic ice cover. Here we document long-term East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) intensification through the Late Miocene–Pliocene (∼8.2 to 2.6 Ma), and attribute this to progressive Antarctic glaciation. Our new high-resolution magnetic records of long-term EASM intensification come from the Late Miocene–Pliocene Red Clay sequence on the Chinese Loess Plateau; we identify underlying mechanisms using a numerical climate-model simulation of EASM response to an idealized stepwise increase in Antarctic ice volume. We infer that progressive Antarctic glaciation caused intensification of the cross-equatorial pressure gradient between an atmospheric high-pressure cell over Australia and a low-pressure cell over mid-latitude East Asia, as well as intensification of the cross-equatorial sea-surface temperature (SST) gradient. These combined atmospheric and oceanic adjustments led to EASM intensification. Our findings offer a new and more global perspective on the controls behind long-term Asian monsoon evolution.

Her üç lokasyonda diatomitlerin oluşumu sırasında göl suyunun tatlı su özelliğinde olduğu, suyun nötr ve asit özellik gösterdiği, Tahar lokalitesinde; göldeki su seviyesinin ve su sıcaklığının yüksek olduğu, göl tabanında çamur bulunduğu, göl suyunun besin oranının değişken olduğu, göl suyunun oksijen oranının başlangıçta yüksek, daha sonra orta seviyede bulunduğu, Güzelöz–1 lokalitesinde; göldeki su seviyesinin, su sıcaklığının, besin oranının değişken olduğu ve göl tabanınında bitkilerin bulunduğu, göl suyunun oksijen oranının başlangıçta yüksek, daha sonra orta seviyede bulunduğu, Güzelöz–2 lokalitesinde; göldeki su seviyesinin, su sıcaklığının ve besin oranının yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir., In this thesis study, diatom community and paleoenvironmental features of the diatomites which are located in the late Miocene-Pliocene volcanosedimentary units and which are formed due to volcanism and outcropping in Tahar and Güzelöz (Nevşehir) areas were investigated. For this purpose, three stratigraphic sections were measured in the study area, one of these sections was measured in the Tahar area (TK) (in the late Miocene age Batramhacılı Member of Ürgüp Formation), and the two sections were measured in the Güzelöz area (GÜ1 and GÜ2) (early Pliocene age Kışladağ Member of Ürgüp Formation). From the diatomite samples of the three section locations, seventy-three species of 21 different diatom genera were identified with microscopic examination. The identified Diatomite’s palaeoenvirnmental properties by were evaluated by considering the distribution of numerical values (in 20 microscopic area) of the determined diatom genus and species; the formation of the diatomite at all locations, were determined the lake water was showing fresh water future and it were neutral and acid properties. At the Tahar location; lake water’s level and temperature was high, the bottom of the lake was muddy, the nutrient ratio of lake water was variable, lake water's oxygen ratio was initially high, later in the middle level, At the Güzelöz-1 location; lake water’s level, temperature and nutrient was variable. There were plants at the bottom of the lake, lake water's oxygen ratio was initially high, later in the middle level, At the Güzelöz-2 location; lake water’s level, temperature and nutrient was high.

En esta contribución se da a conocer el primer registro de termiteros fósiles para la región Mesopotámica de Argentina, y su disposición espacial, al tiempo que se discuten sus afinidades taxonómicas e implicancias paleoambientales. Las estructuras fósiles pertenecen a nidificaciones de insectos sociales atribuibles a miembros de la Familia Termitidae, y se ubican en la zona de contacto entre la base de la Fm. Toropí/Yupoí (Pleistoceno tardío) y el tope de la Fm. Ituzaingó (Mioceno tardío-Plioceno). Se las identifica en los alrededores del Arroyo Toropí (28°36’ S y 59°02’ W), Departamento Bella Vista, provincia de Corrientes. El estudio de las nidificaciones y su disposición espacial se realizó en cinco campos de termiteros mediante su relevamiento y descripción morfológica. La morfología de las estructuras estudiadas coincide claramente con la de los nidos de termitas, en donde resulta característica una fuerte muralla externa. La caracterización de campo, yacencia, desarrollo, frecuencia, tamaños e interrelaciones de los termiteros fósiles y actuales sugieren una estrecha similitud con montículos del género Cornitermes. La morfología presente muestra también cierta semejanza con Tacuruichnus farinai, descripta para el Piso/Edad Marplatense (Plioceno) de la región Pampeana. Por otro lado, el análisis fitolítico indicó que las cantidades y las morfologías fitolíticas son semejantes tanto en los termiteros actuales como en los fósiles. Desde un punto de vista paleoambiental, la abundancia de estos termiteros en el contacto entre las mencionadas unidades indicaría la existencia de suelos bien desarrollados, con abundante vegetación graminosa y condiciones húmedas y cálidas con estacionalidad marcada, In this contribution we show the first termite nests fossil record presence from the Mesopotamian region of Argentina and its spatial distribution. At the same time taxonomic affinities and paleoenvironmental implications are discussed. The discovery takes place in the contact area between the base of the Toropí / Yupoí formations (late Pleistocene) and the top of the Ituzaingó Fm. (late Miocene Pliocene), around the Toropí stream (28°36’ S y 59°02’ W), Bella Vista Department, Corrientes province. These fossil structures belong to nestings of social insects, such as the termite nests type. They could be attributable to representatives of the Termitidae Family. The study of nestings and their spatial arrangement was carried out on five termite nest fields, by surveying and detailed morphological description thereof. The morphology of the studied structures clearly matches with termite nests, with a typical strong outer wall. Characterization of field development, frequency, size and relationships of extant and fossil termite nests suggest a close similarity with mounds of the Cornitermes genus. Furthermore the morphology of these fossil termite nests also shows some resemblance to Tacuruichnus farinai, described for the Marplatanse Stage (Pliocene) of the Pampean region. From a paleoenvironmental point of view, the abundance of these termite nests in the contact between these units indicates the existence of well developed soils with abundant grassy vegetation and humid warm conditions with marked seasonality., Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo

Study was carried out within Horasan formation around Köprüköy located in the east of Erzurum This formation is available in the region of Erzurum-Pasinler-Horasan forming the northest where neo-tectonic sediments are surfaced in East Anatolia. The unit is composed of pebble stones, clays and marl iteration. Ostracod, gastropod and pelecypod species were observed on the levels of clay stone with soft clasts and marl taken from the area. Generally, ostracod species which are unique to Ponto-Caspian basin were described in these units within the scope of the study. These are such ostracod species as Amnicythere idonea Mandelstam, Markova, Rozyeva and Stepanajtys, Candona (Caspiocypris) erzurumensis Freels, Candona (Caspiocypris) araxica Freels, Candona (Caspiocypris) aff. alta (Zalanyi), Candona (Lineocypris) aff. granulosa Zalanyi, Bakunella cf. dorsoarcuata (Zalanyi), Bakunella cf. subtriangularis (Sveyer), Candona (Candona) lycica Freels, Candona (Candona) Armenia Freels, Candona (Candona) aff. elongata (Svejer), Fossilyocypris sarizensis (Safak, Nazik and Senol). There are also such micro mollusc species as Gyraulus inornatus, Dreissena polymorpha available in the sequence. Among these-genera; Candona (Candona) fresh water, Candona (Caspiocypris), Candona (Lineocypris), Fossilyocypris fresh-brackish water (oligohaline), Bakunella characterizes rarely fresh water,mostly brackish water, Amnicythere characterizes brackish water, Gyraulus, Dreissena characterize fresh water conditions. Ostracod fauna, determined in this study, indicates a group clearly supporting these comments in terms of the relation of age and environment and the age of the formation is Late Miocene-Pliocene according to the fauna.

İnceleme alanında yer alan diyatomitlerin fizikokimyasal özelliklerini ve kullanım alanlarını belirlemek amacıyla araziden alınan örneklere Maden Tetkik ve Arama Genel Müdürlüğü (MTA) Laboratuvarı’nda ateş kaybı (1050 °C de), XRD, asitte ve suda çözünmeyen madde miktarı, ısı iletkenliği (101; 150 °C de ve ± 10 °C de), XRF, pH, toplam gözeneklilik, yoğunluk, özgül yüzey alanı, gözenek hacmi, gözenek boyutu, beyazlık, dane boyu ve SEM analizleri yaptırılmış, analiz sonuçlarının değerlendirilmesi sonucunda, çalışılan diyatomitlerin ticari değerlerinin olduğu, süzücülerde, dolgu ve yapı maddesi olarak ve silikat imalatında doğrudan, hafif aşındırıcı ve temizleyici olarak ve yalıtım maddesi yapımında ise işleme tabii tutularak kullanılabilecekleri ortaya konulmuştur., In this study, physicochemical properties and uses of diatomites which are formed due to Central Anatolia volcanism and outcropping in Karacaören (Ürgüp country, Nevşehir) area were investigated. Two stratigraphic sections were measured in the investigated area, one of these sections was measured in the Quaternary lake units (K1), and the other section was measured in the lacustrine sediments of late Miocene-Pliocene Ürgüp Formation’s Bayramhacılı Member (K2). The specify to physicochemical properties and uses of study area’s diatomite, loss on ignition (1050 ° C), XRD, amount of acid and water-insoluble matter, thermal conductivity (in the range of 101; 150 ° C and ± 10 ° C), XRF, pH, total porosity, specific gravity, specific surface area, pore volume, pore size, whiteness, particle size and SEM analysis were carried out at the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration Laboratories on the samples collected from the area. The evaluation of the analyses results showed that, the subject diatomites have commercial value and it can be used directly in percolator, as a filler and structuring agents and in the manufacture of silicate. In addition, it can be used as mild abrasive and cleaner, in the manifacture of isolution material after processing.

Fossil capybaras were long regarded as composed of numerous taxa, each one endemic to a particular area, a scenario completely different from the one shown by the living species. The interpretation of the record according to new criteria of ontogenetic change has demonstrated that they are useful for biocorrelation because their members have short biochrons with wide geographic distribution. The levels with capybaras of each locality would represent a short lapse within the bearing lithostratigraphic units. In turn, they would also represent short intervals within the temporal extension proposed for each Stage/ Age or SALMA. All the late MioceneePliocene records of capybaras were analyzed and a chronological scheme was built mainly for Argentina, where records are most abundant. Numerical ages and magnetostratigraphic studies contribute to correlate this scheme with the global time scale. The Chasicoan SALMA would be correlated with part of the Tortonian Stage/Age; the Huayquerian SALMA with the late Tortonian-Messinian, and it could even extend to the earliest Zanclean. The Montehermosan SALMA would be restricted to the Zanclean. The Chapadmalalan SALMA would be correlated with the late Zanclean-early Piacenzian. Fil: Deschamps, Cecilia Marcela. RESUMEN El segmento del Batolito Norpatagónico comprendido entre los 44 y 45ºS está afectado por una intensa deformación frágil y dúctil localizada en zonas de cizalle, asociada espacialmente a la Zona de Falla Liquiñe-Ofqui. Esta zona de falla está representada regionalmente, por un lineamiento de azimut nor-noreste (Canal de Puyuguapi), que, según estudios anteriores, forma parte de un dúplex de rumbo a escala cortical en la Cordillera Patagónica. La deformación dúctil (Mioceno Superior-Plioceno) está documentada por zonas de milonita tabulares de ancho centimétrico a métrico, con foliación subvertical y lineación de estiramiento noreste, mientras que la deformación transtensional dextral se manifiesta a lo largo de zonas de cizalle este-oeste a noreste. La deformación frágil (post-Mioceno Superior), representada por fallas decamétricas con estrías y buenos indicadores cinemáticos, tiene una distribución areal más amplia y se sobreimpone a la fábrica dúctil. Su cinemática es compatible con un régimen dextral transpresional y transtensional a lo largo de zonas de falla de direcciones nor-noreste y este-noreste, respectivamente. El análisis cinemático de movimientos contemporáneos de rumbo, en el manteo y oblicuos de la deformación frágil-dúctil en los 44-45ºS, sugiere algún grado de partición de ésta en un régimen global de transpresión dextral en la Zona de Falla Liquiñe-Ofqui. ABSTRACT Dextral transpression and deformation partitioning in the Liquiñe-Ofqui Fault Zone, Aisén, Chile (44-45ºS). The segment of the North Patagonian Batholith between 44 and 45ºS is affected by locally intense ductile and brittle deformation spatially associated with the Liquiñe-Ofqui Fault Zone. The fault zone, at the regional scale, is representad by a north to northeast-trending lineament (Puyuguapi Canal) which makes up part of a crustal-scale strike-slip duplex in the Patagonian Cordillera as suggested by previous studies. Late Miocene-Pliocene ductile deformation is documented by centimetric-to metric-wide tabular mylonite zones with subvertical foliation and subvertical, oblique, and subhorizontally plunging lineations. Dextral transpressional deformation predominates along north to northeast-trending shear zones, whereas dextral transtensional deformation is documented along east to northeast trending shear zones. Brittle deformation, representad by decametric faults with striae and good kinematic indicators, is widely exposed and overprints the early ductile fabric. The post-Late Miocene brittle deformation is compatible with dextral transpressional and transtensional kinematics along north-northeast and east-northeast fault zones, respectively. A kinematic analysis of contemporaneous strike-slip, oblique-slip and contractional deformation on brittle faults and shear zones at 44ºS, suggests some degree of deformation partitioning of bulk dextral transpressional deformation in the Liquiñe-Ofqui Fault Zone.
