Purpose: To measure the surface temperature distribution after using a CO2 laser to heat titanium dental implants via different power settings, application intervals, and irradiation times. Materials and Methods: A total of 10 tissue-level titanium implants (Screw-Line Promote Plus, Camlog; 4.3 × 11 mm) were placed (EpoFix, Struers) and irradiated with a CO2 laser (Denta 2, Lutronic) with a wavelength of 10.6 µm at power levels of 4 watts (Group 1), 6 watts (Group 2), 8 watts (Group 3), and 10 watts (Group 4). A continuous beam mode (setting I) and noncontinuous beam modes with 5-second (setting II) and 10-second (setting III) pause intervals were used. For each setting, a total irradiation time of 50 seconds was used and repeated 10 times. The temperature was measured using external thermocouple (Testo) in contact with the implant surface at the implant shoulder, middle, and apex. A linear regression model was used to analyze the data (P = .05). Results: Setting I demonstrated the most rapid increase in implant surface temperature in all three test sites as well as the greatest total temperature at 50 seconds of irradiation time. The greater the pause interval (settings II and III) during the 50 seconds of irradiation, the lower the rate of temperature increase as well as the total temperature in all three test sites and with all power levels. The average temperature difference between the apex and shoulder site was significant for setting III for all groups, but not for any groups in settings I and II. Conclusions: Heating the internal aspect of an implant with a CO2 laser produces different temperature distribution profiles depending on the laser power level and the application interval. A simple and rapid method that is not based on race and ethnicity for classifying people with skin of color is of paramount importance in dermatology. The currently used Fitzpatrick classification of sun-reactive skin types is inadequate. Newer scales that have been used in immigration surveys and sociology studies are not applicable in the office setting. A new, non-racial and non-ethnic, colorimetric scale for skin of color has recently been proposed that is simple to perform. The scale has five colors: very light beige (skin color type 1), light brown (skin color type 2), medium brown (skin color type 3), dark brown (skin color type 4) and very dark brown (skin color type 5); an individual with white skin, such as in albinism, would have a skin color type 0 in this classification. In conclusion, the colorimetric scale enables the rapid classification of individuals with skin of color and allows for accurate assessment of skin cancer risk, more appropriate management of cosmetic dermatologic procedures and aesthetic devices, and enhanced ability for focused counseling regarding hair products, skin care interventions, and color-targeted makeup based on the person's skin tone.

C f /SiC composite is widely utilized in aerospace and defense sectors owing to their outstanding high-temperature and mechanical performance. However, this material is a typical hard-to-machining material. Building upon prior research on the novel laser-induced oxidation-assisted milling technology, this paper conducted an in-depth study of the oxidation of C f /SiC composite under laser induction. The study combined thermodynamic analysis with the detection of oxidation products to ascertain the oxidation reaction types of C f /SiC composite. The oxidation process under the induction of lasers with different energy densities was investigated by combining the oxide layer morphology, element distribution, and high-speed photography results. And the oxidation mechanism was elucidated. A second-order response surface model for the oxide layer thickness with respect to the laser energy density, scanning speed, and scanning path spacing was established, and parameter optimization was performed based on this model. AbstractPurposeMethodsResultsConclusionWe explored the elicitation role of the laser irradiations on the alleviation of nutrient-deficiency induced damage in anthocyanin-producing red-fleshed apple cell suspension in continuous production of anthocyanin.Anthocyanin-producing red-fleshed apple cells were irradiated by 4 intensity levels of red He-Ne (RHNL) and blue diode (BDL) lasers for 20 min.Nutrient deficiency indicated negative effect on total soluble proteins (TSP), superoxidase dismutase (SOD) activity, and total phenolics content (TPC) while it displayed a positive effect on malondialdehyde (MDA), total flavonoids content (TFC), O2-, H2O2-, and lipoxygenase (LOX) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities in light controls, illustrating oxidative stress. The laser irradiations on suspension cells indicated variable effects on measured parameters and were time of growth-, levels of intensity-, and laser type-dependent. Likewise, the elicitation effects of lasers relied on a critical threshold among ROS generation and antioxidative system which determines the fate of cells against oxidative stress. The same trend was displayed by RHNL at 6.46 mWcm−2 intensity and BDL at 13.73 mWcm−2. These intensities resulted in a significant increase in SOD, APX, POD, and CAT activities and TSP, TPC, TFC, proline, and glycine betaine accumulation, while induced decrease in LOX, and PPO activities and MDA, and ROS generation, alleviating cellular injury from prolonged nutrient deficiency by diminishing lipid peroxidation and oxidative damages of cell membrane.Results suggested that lasers application on mitigating nutrient deficiency stress relied on establishing a suitable balance between ROS generation and antioxidative system, which enables the nutrient-starved anthocyanin-producing cells to continuously produce anthocyanin. Although the technologies for auricular reconstruction in microtia have improved, issues such as low hairlines or excessive hair growth can still pose aesthetic problems for the reconstructed ear. Laser depilation has been reported as a solution for hair problems. However, few studies have discussed the appropriate region for hair removal. A retrospective analysis was performed on 276 patients with unilateral microtia who underwent the Nagata two-stage ear reconstruction. The gender ratio of male to female was 2.5 (198 males/78 females). Intense pulsed light depilation was used to remove hair. To determine the proper hair removal area, we measured the extent of hair removal. Before the first stage, the average vertical distance between the upper point (after localization) and hairline was 3.42 ± 4.75 mm (-10–20 mm). After the first stage, the average vertical distance between the upper point of the reconstructed ear and the hairline was 1.27 ± 2.41 mm (-10–15 mm). By using chi-square test to assess differences in hair removal success rates among various regions, we aimed to identify the suitable depilation region. Before the first stage, a depilation vertical distance ≥ 10 mm led to a 92.1% success rate. After the first stage surgery, among the patients needing additional hair removal, a vertical depilation distance ≥ 4 mm resulted in an 81.3% success rate. Based on our observation, we suggested that a depilation region of ≥ 10 mm (before the first surgery) or ≥ 4 mm (after the first surgery) would be the ideal range for laser hair removal. Objectives: This study aimed to compare the tissue dissolving capacities of sodium and calcium hypochlorite [NaOCl and Ca(OCl)2] solutions applied without activation or with two irrigant activation methods. Materials and Methods: One hundred and eight dentin cavities were prepared. Preweighed tissue pieces were placed in these dentin cavities, and samples were divided into nine groups of twelve. In groups 1, 2, and 3, NaOCl was used with non-activation (NA), passive ultrasonic (PUA), and laser activation (LA). With the same techniques, Ca(OCl)2 was used in groups 4, 5, and 6, and distilled water was used in groups 7, 8, and 9. The weight loss of tissue samples was calculated and analyzed using Two-way ANOVA and Duncan tests. Results: Distilled water groups showed no tissue dissolution in any conditions. NaOCI and Ca(OCI)2 showed statistically similar dissolving effectiveness when used with the same technique. Activated groups dissolved significantly greater tissue than non-activated ones, the highest in LA. Conclusions: Ca(OCI)2 can be an alternative to NaOCl; for both, the first choice of activation may be the LA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The use of robot-assisted laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) is emerging as a viable treatment option for brain tumors in patients aged 80–90 years (octogenarians). Correspondingly, the aim of this study was to describe the clinical feasibility of octogenarians undergoing LITT procedure for brain tumors at our institution. A retrospective review was conducted of all robot-assisted LITT procedures performed at our institution between 2013 and 2023 for octogenarians. Comparison of continuous variables was by Student t tests, and Kaplan-Meier estimates were used to estimate survival outcomes. A total of 20 of 311 (6%) LITT patients in the search cohort were octogenarians. Mean age was 82.6 years (range, 80.1–88.0 years) with 13 (65%) female patients. Brain tumor lesions most commonly were located on the left side (65%), and, for ablation, all were single trajectories with mean number of 2.3 ablations. No operative complications were seen during hospitalization, with mean length of stay of 1.6 days and most common disposition destination being home (95%). There were no 30- or 90-day readmissions or emergency department presentations. Mean follow-up was 12.4 months without any complications in that time. The most common pathology in our cohort was glioblastoma (55%). Robot-assisted LITT is a safe and effective treatment option for brain tumors in octogenarians with a very low morbidity risk. The intersection of dynamic compression, high-rate material response and X-ray science has seen rapid growth, leading to the establishment of specialized end-stations at international facilities such as Linac Coherent Light Source LCLS (Matter at Extreme Conditions – MEC) and Advanced Photon Source APS (Dynamic Compression Sector – DCS), both USA. Although these facilities excel in working with X-rays tailored for small material volumes (i.e. $\lt 1\, {\rm mm}^3$ < 1 mm 3 ), it needs a different approach to delve into subsequent processes. This is particularly the case in the transition from the micro- to mesoscale: here the ESRF distinguishes itself. The large beam size (several cm2) of the ID19 beamline, in conjunction with a strong high energy component, source flux density, and outstanding imaging sensitivity, enables sub-surface visualization of engineering-scale structures as well as natural systems in representative volume, under high rate and shock. This is particularly valuable when studying materials with complex mesostructures and heterogeneities on relevant volumetric scales, which often dominate the dynamic material response. The study of the behavior of materials under dynamic loading presents a unique challenge due to inherently spanning over multiple lengths- and timescales. The evolution of sudden (thermo)mechanical excitation, starting from the lattice scale and progressing through grains, phase domains, and ultimately to structures, exhibits a spectrum of responses spanning from the microscopic to bulk length scales. Consequently, a diverse range of diagnostics as well as driver instrumentation is required to identify, study, and characterize this material response spectrum. This article shall introduce platforms available at beamline ID19 and underline their potential by selected showcase applications. We present a newly developed laser-driven shock compression platform at the ID09 beamline of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF). This platform combines a custom high-power EKSPLA laser with ESRF's high-energy X-ray pulses to perform in situ, time-resolved X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements in materials under well characterized, moderate pressure (up to 1 Mbar) and short-duration shock waves. Its purpose is to serve as a shock driver to study materials under dynamic pressure, focusing on phase transitions in condensed matter. We provide a detailed description of this platform's design and functionalities, along with preliminary experimental results obtained from iron and tin samples subjected to shock compression. These results not only demonstrate the platform's ability to acquire high-quality X-ray diffraction data but also highlight its potential for advancing research in material science and high-energy-density physics. Purpose: Traditionally, bilateral urolithiasis treatment involved staged interventions due to safety concerns. Recent studies have shown that same-sitting bilateral retrograde intrarenal surgery (SSB-RIRS) is effective, with acceptable complication rates. However, there's no clear data on the optimum laser for the procedure. This study aimed to assess outcomes of SSB-RIRS comparing thulium fiber laser (TFL) and high-power holmium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Ho:YAG) laser in a multicenter real-world practice. Materials and Methods: Retrospective analysis was conducted on patients undergoing SSB-RIRS from January 2015 to June 2022 across 21 centers worldwide. Three months perioperative and postoperative outcomes were recorded, focusing on complications and stone-free rates (SFR). Results: A total of 733 patients were included, with 415 in group 1 (Ho:YAG) and 318 in group 2 (TFL). Both groups have similar demographic and stone characteristics. Group 1 had more incidence of symptomatic pain or hematuria (26.5% vs. 10.4%). Operation and lasing times were comparable. The use of baskets was higher in group 1 (47.2% vs. 18.9%, p<0.001). Postoperative complications and length of hospital stay were similar. Group 2 had a higher overall SFR. Multivariate regression analysis indicated that age, presence of stone at the lower pole, and stone diameter were associated with lower odds of being stone-free bilaterally, while TFL was associated with higher odds. Conclusions: Our study shows that urologists use both lasers equally for SSB-RIRS. Reintervention rates are low, safety profiles are comparable, and single-stage bilateral SFR may be better in certain cases. A nanocomposite (NC) of polyaniline (Pani), polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanoparticles (NP) was prepared using chemical coprecipitation and ex-situ casting procedures. ZnS NP were synthesized using the chemical coprecipitation technique in atmospheric air. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) scans indicated that the synthesized ZnS had a nanonature and fit the cubic zinc blended structure. We used an infrared pulsed laser to irradiate the Pani/PVP/ZnS NC samples with fluences ranging from 3 to18 J/cm2. The induced changes in the NC were investigated using the UV spectroscopy and International Commission on Illumination (CIE) color difference methodology. When the laser fluence increased up to 18 J/cm2 both the direct and indirect optical bandgaps (Eg) decreased. Additionally, we used the optical dielectric loss (ε") to detect the type of microelectronic transition for the NC samples. The Eg of the exposed NC samples and the pristine samples exhibited indirect allowed transitions. The laser effects on the absorbance, extinction coefficient, transmission, refractive index, dielectric parameters and optical conductivity of the NC were studied. Lastly, the color differences between the pristine and exposed samples were determined. The pristine Pani/PVP/ZnS showed a significant color difference with the laser irradiated samples. The changes of the studied optical parameters with the laser fluence indicated that the laser radiation represents a convenient tool that would allow the application of Pani/PVP/ZnS NC in optoelectronic devices. Background and Aims Lidar is a promising tool for fast and accurate measurements of trees. There are several approaches to estimate above-ground woody biomass using lidar point clouds. One of the most widely used methods involves fitting geometric primitives (e.g. cylinders) to the point cloud, thereby reconstructing both the geometry and topology of the tree. However, current algorithms are not suited for accurate estimation of the volume of finer branches, because of the unreliable point dispersions from, for example, beam footprint compared to the structure diameter. Method We propose a new method that couples point cloud-based skeletonization and multi-linear statistical modelling based on structural data to make a model (structural model) that accurately estimates the above-ground woody biomass of trees from high-quality lidar point clouds, including finer branches. The structural model was tested at segment, axis and branch level, and compared to a cylinder fitting algorithm and to the pipe model theory. Key Results The model accurately predicted the biomass with 1.6 % normalized root mean square error (nRMSE) at the segment scale from a k -fold cross-validation. It also gave satisfactory results when scaled up to the branch level with a significantly lower error (13 % nRMSE) and bias (−5 %) compared to conventional cylinder fitting to the point cloud (nRMSE: 92 %, bias: 82 %), or using the pipe model theory (nRMSE: 31 %, bias: −27 %). The model was then applied to the whole-tree scale and showed that the sampled trees had more than 1.7 km of structures on average and that 96 % of that length was coming from the twigs (i.e. <5 cm diameter). Our results showed that neglecting twigs can lead to a significant underestimation of tree above-ground woody biomass (−21 %). Conclusions The structural model approach is an effective method that allows a more accurate estimation of the volumes of smaller branches from lidar point clouds. This method is versatile but requires manual measurements on branches for calibration. Nevertheless, once the model is calibrated, it can provide unbiased and large-scale estimations of tree structure volumes, making it an excellent choice for accurate 3D reconstruction of trees and estimating standing biomass. Background: The issue of hair growth on reconstructed ears has been a matter of concern for both patients and surgeons, despite the notable progress made in microtia reconstruction technology in recent times. Objective: This study aims to present the practical implementation of long-pulsed 800-nm diode laser depilation technology in the field of auricular reconstruction. Furthermore, it seeks to establish a comprehensive and standardized protocol for utilizing lasers in the reconstruction of microtia ears. Methods: A total of 965 patients (comprising 1021 ears) diagnosed with congenital microtia underwent treatment using 800-nm long-pulsed diode laser depilation. The participants received 1–3 treatment sessions with intervals of 25–30 days. To assess the effectiveness of the treatment, two independent observers compared photographs and measured the reduction in terminal hair count before and after the final session. Clinical outcomes were evaluated using VAS questionnaires, and any adverse events were diligently recorded. Results: The findings indicated that the utilization of the long-pulsed 800-nm diode laser was both safe and efficient in achieving hair removal during microtia ear reconstruction. As additional sessions were conducted, pain scores demonstrated a decline, while adverse reactions remained minimal. Limitations: This is a retrospective single-institution study. Conclusion: The application of a long-pulsed 800-nm diode laser has been proved to be a safe and effective method for removing hair during the process of microtia ear reconstruction, involving the use of a tissue expander and autologous costal cartilage. To achieve satisfactory results in hair removal, it was found necessary to repeat the shots procedure two to three times. This article presents a review on some important recent research, development, and innovations related to the nonconventional machining of glass material. Nonconventional machining processes were identified suitable for machining of glass, years ago, and from then to now various technological developments have made nonconventional machining a viable alternate to the conventional machining of glass material. In this article, we have mainly focused on three important nonconventional machining processes, namely, last cutting, ultrasonic machining, and electrochemical discharge machining (ECDM). Novel aspects, effects of process parameters, and salient features are discussed. Mainly, previous five years' work is reviewed. Purpose: We aim to report here the first clinical series of patients treated with AEEP using a novel hybrid thulium:yttrium–aluminium-garnet (Tm:YAG) laser generator (RevoLix HTL, LISA Laser Products, Germany), i.e. capable of emitting both in pulsated and continuous-wave. Methods: We included 39 consecutive patients who underwent hybrid Tm:YAG AEEP (hybrid ThuLEP) at a single center starting from July 2022 and were followed-up until 3 months after surgery. Complete baseline, intraoperative, and follow-up demographic and clinical data were collected. The International Prostatic Symptoms Score (IPSS) questionnaire was used to quantify urinary symptoms at baseline and during follow-up. Post-operative follow-up further included a PSA test, uroflowmetry with post-void residual volume (PVR) measurement. Clavien-Dindo classification was used to classify complications. Results: Median (IQR) age at surgery and prostate volume were 68 (IQR 63–74) years and 85 (60–105) cc. Both en-bloc or two-lobes technique enucleation were performed according to the intraoperative and endoscopic anatomy, with a median operative time of 85 (63–108) minutes. Bladder catheter was removed in all cases on postoperative day two. Intraoperative bleeding requiring conversion to bipolar enucleation was observed in two patients. After discharge, one patient developed arm phlebitis which was treated with anticoagulants leading to new onset haematuria requiring short term catheterisation (Clavien-Dindo grade II) and two more patients had a single episode of acute urinary retention (Clavien-Dindo grade I). Median pre- vs postoperative Qmax and IPSS were 8.0 (7.0–9.4) vs. 25.0 (22.5–32.5) ml/s and 22 (20–28) vs. 1 (0–2), whereas PVR decreased from 70 (50–115) to 0 (0–26) ml. Phase change materials (PCMs) have gained a tremendous interest as a means to actively tune nanophotonic devices through the large optical modulation produced by their amorphous to crystalline reversible transition. Recently, materials such as Sb2S3 emerged as particularly promising low loss PCMs, with both large refractive index modulations and transparency in the visible and near‐infrared. Controlling the local and reversible phase transition in this material is of major importance for future applications, and an appealing method to do so is to exploit pulsed lasers. Yet, the physics and limits involved in the optical switching of Sb2S3 are not yet well understood. Here, the reversible laser‐induced phase transition of Sb2S3 is investigated, focusing specifically on the mechanisms that drive the optically induced amorphization, with multi‐physics considerations including the optical and thermal properties of the PCM and its environment. The laser energy threshold for reversibly changing the phase of the PCM is determined through both theoretical analysis and experimental investigation, not only between fully amorphous and crystalline states but also between partially recrystallized states. Then, the non‐negligible impact of the material's polycrystallinity and anisotropy on the power thresholds for optical switching is revealed. Finally, the challenges related to laser amorphization of thick Sb2S3 layers are addressed, as well as strategies to overcome them. Vitrimers, an emerging class of polymer materials, are thermosets with dynamic covalent cross-linkers, allowing for topology rearrangement at elevated temperatures. However, vitrimers have several drawbacks, such as slow response times and often lack photothermal catalytic activity. Herein, we demonstrate that embedding functional nanofillers, i.e., hierarchically assembled plasmonic gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on graphene nanoplatelets (GNPIs) into a vitrimer matrix, induces an ultrafast photothermal healing response. Unlike previous research that mainly focused on bulk materials, our exploration of vitrimer nanocomposite films uncovers unique advantages, such as optical transparency in the visible wavelength, flexibility, and ultrafast localized healing upon exposure to a 532 nm wavelength laser. These remarkable properties of vitrimer nanocomposite films were demonstrated with three various filler compositions and concentrations, where AuNPs/GNPls serve as a powerful filler. Photothermally activated self-healing of these hybrid materials is demonstrated by taking advantage of the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of AuNPs and the broad absorbance wavelength and high thermal conductivity of GNPls. Furthermore, profilometry is utilized to quantify the volume percent recovery of healing, providing quantitative evidence of increased healing with a higher filler concentration and laser dosage. This localized, ultrafast healing is pivotal for future coating applications, where bulk heating could lead to undesirable deformations. Our comprehensive understanding of the role of filler composition, filler concentration, and laser dosage in the self-healing properties of films opens up a wide array of potential applications for these light-responsive functional materials. We demonstrate femtosecond ultra-stable green laser generation by an ytterbium-doped polarization-maintaining fiber laser with a 2.4 mm long lithium triborate (LBO) crystal. We generated 5.6 W of femtosecond green light at 520 nm for a fundamental power of 12 W, which corresponds to a conversion efficiency of 46.7%. The fiber chirped-pulse amplifier, which has an environmentally immune front end, delivered 170 fs pulses at a 75 MHz repetition rate centered at 1040 nm. According to the dispersion of the optical material in a double-frequency setup, the introduced dispersion had a negligible effect for the green laser, and the pulse duration of the generated green laser was calculated to be 171 fs, resulting in an excellent power stability, with fluctuation as low as 0.16% of the generated green light. Technologies associated with using concentrated energy flows are increasingly used in industry due to the need to manufacture products made of hard alloys and other difficult-to-process materials. This work is devoted to expanding knowledge about the processes accompanying the impact of laser pulses on material surfaces. The features of these processes are reflected in the acoustic emission signals, the parameters of which were used as a tool for understanding the accompanying phenomena. The influence of plasma formations above the material surface on self-oscillatory phenomena and the self-regulation process that affects pulse productivity were examined. The stability of plasma formation over time, its influence on the pulse performance, and changes in the heat flux power density were considered. Experimental data show the change in the power density transmitted by laser pulses to the surface when the focal plane is shifted. Experiments on the impact of laser pulses of different powers and durations on the surface of a hard alloy showed a relationship between the amplitude of acoustic emission and the pulse performance. Background: Pilonidal disease (PD) is an acquired condition related to hair-induced mechanical forces on the skin surface of the intergluteal cleft, with subsequent abscess formation with or without a concomitant draining sinus (pit). While surgical management currently is the mainstay of treatment, pilonidal disease laser treatment (PiLaT) has recently been recognized as a promising treatment option for non-inflammatory diseases. Nonetheless, there is a paucity of available data on adolescent pilonidal disease laser treatment (a-PiLaT). Methods: We describe our preliminary experience with PiLaT performed in adolescents aged 10–17 years at our tertiary paediatric surgical hospital from 2019 to 2023. Data on perioperative characteristics and clinical outcomes at follow-up were retrospectively analysed. Results: A total of 17 consecutive patients (n = 12 female, 71%) underwent a-PiLaT. At the time of treatment, the patients' mean age and body mass index were 13.6 ± 1.6 years and 25.3 ± 5.6 kg m−2, respectively. The mean operative time was 21.5 ± 10.4 min, whereas the mean follow-up period was 24.5 ± 16.8 months, with a complication rate of 24% (n = 4) and recurrence rate of 18% (n = 3). With respect to postsurgical scar assessment, the mean Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale scores (score range 6–60, with higher scores indicating worse outcome) were 14.2 ± 6.5 (patients' evaluation) and 11.4 ± 4.7 (observers' evaluation). Conclusion: The a-PiLaT represents a novel approach for managing PD in adolescents. Our preliminary data on the outcomes of a small series of patients with pilonidal sinuses after a-PiLaT indicated complication and recurrence rates comparable to those reported in the literature for adults. To present an efficient method for fabricating artificial kidney stones with acoustic and physical properties to assess their fragmentation efficiency under shock waves and laser lithotripsy for very hard stones. The mixture ratio of super-hard plaster and water was adjusted to produce artificial kidney stones for comparison with > 95% human genuine calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM) and uric acid (UA) stones. Acoustic and physical properties, such as wave speed, stone hardness, density, compressive strength, and stone-free rates under shock-wave and laser lithotripsy, were assessed. The longitudinal wave speed of artificial stones prepared at a plaster-to-water ratio of 15:3 closely matched that of COM stones. Similarly, the transverse wave speed of artificial stones prepared at a plaster-to-water ratio of 15:3 to 15:5 aligned with that of COM stones. Stone fragmentation using shock-wave of artificial stones with mixed ratios ranging from 15:3 to 15:5 resembled that of COM stones. The Vickers hardness was similar to that of artificial stones produced with a mixing ratio of 15:3, similar to that of COM stones, while that of artificial stones produced with a mixing ratio of 15:5 was similar to that of UA stones. Density-wise, artificial stones with mixing ratios of 15:4 and 15:5 resembled COM stones. Compressive strength test results did not confirm the similarity between natural and artificial stones. The stone fragmentation using laser showed that stones produced with higher moisture content at a mixing ratio of 15:6 were similar to COM stones. Continuously manipulating the resonant wavelength of lasing modes within a large spectral range is of great significance for expanding device functionality. Here, to synthesize a single CsPbClxBr3‐x perovskite microwire with the energy bandgap gradient spanning from 2.33 to 2.83 eV along the length direction defined as the axis by using the vapor‐phase anion exchange method is proposed. A high‐quality (≈103), wide range (≈60 nm), and continuously tunable single‐mode laser is achieved in as‐prepared perovskite microwire alloy, which provides both gain media and microresonator. Simultaneously, the exciton recombination dynamics and atomic‐scale interdiffusion mechanisms at different components are clarified through time‐resolved photoluminescence (PL) spectra and theoretical calculations. The vacancy defects have a significant impact on the interdiffusion of halogen anions, excitonic recombination lifetime, and fluorescence quantum efficiency. Objective Photobiomodulation (PBM) is not implemented in routine clinical management for knee osteoarthritis. This study aims to systematically investigate the effects of PBM in patients with knee osteoarthritis, comparing with placebo to understand its true clinical effects. Methods PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases were searched up to October 2023. Randomized placebo-controlled trials applying PBM versus placebo were included. Study characteristics, intervention parameters, and patient-reported and physical examination outcome measures were collected. The risk of bias was judged using the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials (version 2) and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) to interpret the certainty of results. Results Ten studies were included comprising 542 participants. All studies were judged with unclear to a high risk of bias. Meta-analysis for pain at rest (6 studies) showed that PBM significantly reduced pain at rest as compared to placebo (−0.7 [95% CI = −1.1 to −0.2]), moderate effect, very low certainty of evidence, whereas for the Timed "Up & Go" Test (three studies), no significant effect was detected. Statistically significantly within-group (PBM) mean improvement was detected for pain, Lequesne Index, and gait performance outcomes, but not always clinically relevant or significant when compared to placebo. Conclusion PBM reduces pain intensity in patients with knee osteoarthritis and may improve disability. However, the very low certainty of evidence does not allow to recommend its isolated use but may be used to complement other widely recommended therapies. More rigorous clinical trials and the revision of the recommended dosage guidelines are warranted to increase the strength of evidence. Impact The findings indicate that photobiomodulation can reduce pain and improve disability in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters are used to prevent fatal and nonfatal pulmonary embolism in patients who otherwise cannot receive anticoagulation for venous thrombosis. While generally safe and effective, complications can arise, especially after prolonged implantation. Timely retrieval is essential once the indication for insertion has resolved. However, encountering patients with long-standing embedded filters is not uncommon. This case report discusses the successful retrieval of a permanent Greenfield IVC filter after 29 years. Objectives: To address the paucity of literature comparing outcomes achieved with utilisation of the high‐power holmium:yttrium‐aluminium‐garnet (Ho:YAG) laser with MOSES technology vs those achieved with the thulium fibre laser (TFL) in mini‐percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Methods: A retrospective review was performed of patients undergoing supine mini‐PCNL between August 2021 and May 2023. Exclusion criteria were urinary diversion, simultaneous utilisation of >1 laser platform, use of any other form of fragmentation, and ureteric stones. The Ho:YAG platform (Lumenis Pulse P120H™ with MOSES technology, 120W; Boston Scientific®) and the TFL (Soltive SuperPulsed Thulium Fibre [SPTF], 60W; Olympus®) were compared. Data on stone‐free rate (SFR) were determined by computed tomography performed on the first postoperative day and presented as absence of stone fragments, no fragments larger than 2 mm, or no fragments larger than 4 mm. Results: A total of 100 patients met the inclusion criteria, 51 mini‐PCNLs with the Ho:YAG laser and 49 with the SPTF laser. No significant differences in demographics or stone characteristics were detected between the two groups. The Ho:YAG laser utilised less energy and time, resulting in higher ablation efficiency (P < 0.05) and less total operating time (P < 0.05). Overall, there was no difference in SFR in any category between the Ho:YAG group and the SPTF group (no fragments: relative risk [RR] 0.81, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.59–1.12, P = 0.21; fragments <2 mm: RR 0.86, 95% CI 0.67–1.10, P = 0.23; fragments <4 mm: RR 0.96, 95% CI 0.80–1.15, P = 0.67). Conclusions: Although we observed an equivalent postoperative SFR, this study supports a shorter operating time and greater intra‐operative laser efficiency with the Ho:YAG laser over the SPTF laser in mini‐PCNL. Introduction: We aimed to investigate the incidence, prenatal factors and outcomes of twin‐to‐twin transfusion (TTTS) with right ventricular outflow tract obstruction (RVOTO). Material and methods: A systematic search was conducted to identify relevant studies published until February 2023 in English using the databases PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. Studies reporting on pregnancies with TTTS and RVOTO were included. The random‐effect model pooled the mean differences or odds ratios (OR) and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals. Heterogeneity was assessed using the I2 value. Results: A total of 17 studies encompassing 4332 TTTS pregnancies, of which 225 cases had RVOTO, were included. Incidence of RVOTO at time of TTTS diagnosis was 6%. In all, 134/197 (68%) had functional pulmonary stenosis and 62/197 (32%) had functional pulmonary atresia. Of these, 27% resolved following laser and 55% persisted after birth. Of those persisting, 27% required cardiac valve procedures. Prenatal associations were TTTS stage III (53% vs 39% in no‐RVOTO), stage IV TTTS (28% in RVOTO vs 12% in no‐RVOTO) and ductus venosus reversed a‐wave (60% in RVOTO vs 19% in no‐RVOTO). Gestational age at laser and gestational age at delivery were comparable between groups. Survival outcomes were also comparable between groups, including fetal demise of 26%, neonatal death of 12% and 6‐month survival of 82% in RVOTO group. Findings were similar when subgroup analysis was done for studies including head‐to‐head analysis. Conclusions: RVOT occurs in about 6% of the recipient twins with TTTS, especially in stages III and IV and those with reversed ductus venosus a‐wave. The findings from this systematic review support the need for a thorough cardiac assessment of pregnancies complicated by TTTS, both before and after laser, to maximize perinatal outcome, and the importance of early diagnosis of TTTS and timely management. Objectives: The present trial’s aim was to compare the remineralization potential of self-assembling peptide P11-4 combined with fluoride to that of fluoride varnish. Materials and methods: Twenty-eight participants with 58 incipient carious lesions were enrolled in the present trial. Participants were randomly divided into two groups with 14 participants and 29 incipient lesions in each group. Patients were assigned either to self-assembling peptide combined with fluoride (Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus™) or sodium fluoride varnish (NaF, Bifluorid 10) groups. Both agents were applied according to the manufacturer’s instructions on non-cavitated incipient carious lesions. Lesions were assessed by two calibrated and blinded assessors at baseline, and after one-, three- and six-months using a laser fluorescence device (DIAGNOdent). Results: Although laser fluorescence scores significantly improved in both groups over time (p < 0.05), no notable differences were evident between both groups at one-month (p > 0.05). Yet, at three- and six-months statistically lower laser fluorescence readings were evident in the self-assembling peptide combined with fluoride group in comparison to the fluoride alone group (p < 0.05). There was 60% less risk for caries progression for Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus™ when compared to NaF varnish after six months. Self-assembling peptide combined with fluoride was able to change 65.5% of non-cavitated carious lesions from DIAGNOdent score 3 (11–20) to score 1 (0–4). Fluoride varnish was able to change 13.8% of the lesions from score 3 to score 1 after six months. Conclusions: The self-assembling peptide combined with fluoride varnish showed higher remineralization potential than fluoride varnish alone for incipient carious lesions over a six-months follow up. Introduction: Vascular lasers may represent a promising treatment option for periorbital veins. This article aims to: (1) systematically review the literature on the safety and effectiveness of vascular laser treatment for periorbital veins and (2) assess safety and effectiveness through a retrospective case series. Methods: Systematic review: Articles that assessed the safety and effectiveness of vascular laser treatment for periorbital veins were included and quality assessed using the Downs and Black checklist. Case series: Patient records were retrospectively reviewed from January 2020 to November 2023 to identify all patients who underwent laser treatment for periorbital veins. Outcomes assessment included percentage improvement, patient overall satisfaction and adverse effects. Results: Systematic review: Three articles were included, discussing treatment of blue, periorbital veins using a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser. Patient Fitzpatrick skin Types I–IV were treated with high patient satisfaction rates and complete clearance of treated veins. Adverse effects included pain, erythema, mild oedema, urticaria and blister formation. Quality of included studies ranged from 7 to 14 out of 21 points. Case series: Thirty‐four patients with skin Types I–V were included. Blue and red periorbital veins were treated using 1064 and 532 nm wavelengths respectively. Mean percentage improvement was 4.8 (complete resolution) and patients' overall satisfaction was ranked 3 (completely satisfied). Adverse effects included erythema, oedema, and bruising. Conclusion: Treatment of red and blue periorbital veins using 532 and 1064 nm vascular lasers appears a safe treatment option. Background: Current clinical approaches to regenerate temporomandibular joint (TMJ) articulating cartilage defects only treat the symptoms (i.e. pain and dysfunction) and do not seek to restore joint integrity for long‐term relief. Therefore, we investigated a novel self‐assembling tissue‐engineered cartilage to overcome this significant clinical issue for TMJ regenerative purposes. Objectives: Examine the maturation of dynamic self‐regenerating cartilage (dSRC) using auricular chondrocytes and evaluate a novel combinatorial approach with fractional laser treatment and dSRC implantation for TMJ cartilage repair. Materials and Methods: A suspension of 107 freshly harvested rabbit ear chondrocytes was cultured under a continuous reciprocating motion to form the dSRC. After 2, 4 and 8 weeks of culture, dSRC samples were stained with H&E, Safranin‐O and Toluidine Blue. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was performed for collagens type I and II. Channels (300–500 μm diameter and 1.2–1.5 mm depth) were created in six freshly harvested condyles using a fractional Erbium laser. Two groups were tested: dSRC in a laser‐ablated lesion (experimental) and an empty laser‐ablated channel (control). TMJ condyles were cultured for up to 8 weeks and analysed as described above. Results: H&E staining showed a high cell density in dSRC compared to native cartilage. All dSRC groups demonstrated intense Safranin‐O staining, indicating high glycosaminoglycan (GAG) production and intense Toluidine Blue staining showed high proteoglycan content. IHC confirmed that dSRC consisted predominantly of collagen type II. The experimental group showed improved cartilage repair at both time points compared to the empty channels. Conclusion: dSRC viability and successful matrix formation were demonstrated in vitro. The combination of fractional laser ablation and dSRC implantation enhanced cartilage repair. These days, metal matrix composites (MMCs) are being widely utilized in automotive and aerospace industries as prominent alternatives to traditional materials. Owing to their elevated strength-to-weight proportion, exceptional fracture toughness, and lightweight design, they can be used in a variety of applications. MMCs undergo extensive machining while making parts and components out of them. The machining of monolithic materials, such as metals and alloys, is a widely used and established process in different industries, such as the aerospace, bio-medical, and automotive sectors. Because of the properties of the metal matrix and the strong reinforcement, MMCs provide unique challenges. Modern machining processes have been found to be superior in overcoming challenges and achieving improved machinability of MMCs. An overview of MMC machining with modern methods is provided in this article. This article first outlines MMCs and addresses the need for and difficulties associated with their machining. Next, it reviews previous investigations on the machining of MMCs employing modern methods like electrical discharge machining, laser machining, abrasive machining, and hybrid machining. Productivity and surface integrity issues, including delamination and roughness, etc., are discussed. (1) Background: This study aimed to evaluate how laser-activated irrigation (LAI) influences the retention of a fiber post when used before an endodontic filling, as well as after post space preparation. (2) Materials and Methods: Sixty freshly extracted human incisors were selected. The teeth were randomly assigned to three groups—CONVENTIONAL (CONV), PIPS or SWEEPS—and treated endodontically. Each group received irrigation with 1 × 5 mL EDTA (17%) and 3 × 5 mL NaOCl (5.25%). In the first group, the irrigants were not activated, while in the second and third group, LAI was adopted using PIPS and SWEEPS protocols (Lightwalker from Fotona, Ljubliana, Slovenia). After post space preparation, each group received the same irrigation protocol initially established. Sticky posts (everStick Post, GC AUSTRIA GmbH Swiss) were individually adapted to the corresponding post spaces and cemented using dual cure resin cement (Gradia Core, GC Austria GmbH Swiss). All specimens were vertically embedded into self-curing acrylate (Duracryl plus, Spofa Dent, Europe), and each was sectioned into three segments of type A and type B samples for debonding through push-out and pull-out tests. The results were statistically analyzed. (3) Results: The pull-out test showed the superiority of the SWEEPS group, with a mean fracture force of 133.0 ± 50.7 N, followed by the PIPS group, with 102 N, with a lower standard deviation of ± 34.5 N. The CONV group registered the lowest fracture force. Concerning the push-out test, the SWEEPS group showed superior shear stress in comparison to the other two groups (13.45 ± 4.29 MPa); the CONV group was inferior, with shear tension values of 8.31 ± 4.67 MPa. (4) Conclusions: It can be stated that the SWEEPS and PIPS protocols resulted in considerably higher fiber post retention than the conventional method, whereas the SWEEPS protocol was superior to the PIPS protocol. This study explores the impact of additive manufactured porous architecture on the tribological performance of Ti6Al4V. Biomimetic porous architectures were manufactured on dense multi-layer using direct energy deposition with a dense layer followed by a porous layer. Varied scanning intervals during laser processing for the porous layer influenced the microstructure and, consequently, the hardness, the corrosion resistance and the tribological behavior of the dense layer. The results indicate a substantial improvement in tribocorrosion performance, particularly noteworthy in reducing corrosive wear rates, making porous architectures beneficial for both biomimetic structures and enhanced tribocorrosion resistance in body fluids. The validation of laser welding of metallic materials is challenging due to its highly dynamic processes and limited accessibility to the weld. The measurement of process emissions and the processing laser beam are one way to record highly dynamic process phenomena. However, these recordings always take place via the surface of the weld. Phenomena on the inside are only implicitly recognizable in the data and require further processing. To increase the validity of the diagnostic process, the multispectral emission data are synchronized with synchrotron data consisting of in situ high-speed images based on phase contrast videography. The welding process is transilluminated by synchrotron radiation and recorded during execution, providing clear contrasts between solid, liquid, and gaseous material phases. Thus, dynamics of the vapor capillary and the formation of defects such as pores can be recorded with high spatial and temporal resolution of <5 μm and >5 kHz. In this paper, laser welding of copper Cu-ETP and CuSn6 is investigated at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY). The synchronization is achieved by leveraging a three-stage deep learning approach. A preprocessing Mask-R-CNN, dimensionality reduction PCA/Autoencoders, and a final LSTM/Transformer stage provide end-to-end defect detection capabilities. Integrated gradients allow for the extraction of correlations between defects and emission data. The novel approach of correlating image and sensor data increases the informative value of the sensor data. The authors report incoherent random laser action in systems where the optical feedback is provided by multiple scattering generated by different classes of silver nanoparticles in the colloidal state, having plasmon resonances at different frequencies. They found improved performance of triangular silver nanoplates as compared to nanospheres, with a threshold as low as 1 mJ/cm2 and a 5 times lower optimal silver concentration, due to plasmonic enhancement effects and tuning of the plasmon resonance. The nanoparticles were also tested for stability against illumination by the pump laser, as the onset of pulsed laser melting is comparable to random laser threshold in terms of pump fluence, severely limiting the range of operation of nanoparticles with main plasmon resonance close to the pump wavelength. The optimal approach to choose plasmonic nanoparticles for random lasing must, therefore, take the stability aspect into serious consideration as well as the plasmonic enhancement of random lasing. Background: Current management options for PTMC include lobo-isthmectomy and active surveillance (AS). Recently, ultrasound-guided minimally invasive procedures (MITs) are offered as a nonsurgical therapy for PTMC because they do not require hospitalization and general anaesthesia, and do not result in loss of thyroid function or cosmetic damage. MITs are reported to consistently provide, mostly in large retrospective series of patients, a rapid, safe, and cost-effective way to eradicate low-risk thyroid malignancies. However, conclusive data from well-conducted prospective studies on the histologically-proven completeness of tumor ablation and the long-term clinical advantages versus AS are still lacking. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ultrasound-guided minimally invasive treatments (MITs) for PTMC in comparison to traditional surgical methods and active surveillance, and to assess their role in current clinical practice. Methods: A structured literature review was conducted using keywords related to PTMC, MIT, and comparative techniques. Studies were evaluated based on treatment modality, patient selection, follow-up duration, complication rates, and clinical outcomes. Results: MITs have shown promising results in the management of PTMC. These treatments offer several advantages over surgery, such as reduced use of surgical resources, lower costs, minimal work disruption, and fewer major complications. However, there are still limitations, including the need for long-term surveillance and the potential risk of incomplete tumor ablation. Conclusions: MITs represent a promising non-surgical option for managing low-risk PTMC, especially for patients ineligible for or refusing surgery. Despite favorable outcomes, more robust prospective data are needed to confirm their long-term benefits and completeness of tumor ablation. Skin diseases pose challenges in treatment due to the skin's complex structure and protective functions. Topical drug delivery has emerged as a preferred method for treating these conditions, offering localized therapy with minimal systemic side effects. However, the skin's barrier properties frequently limit topical treatments' efficacy by preventing drug penetration into deeper skin layers. In recent years, laser-assisted drug delivery (LADD) has gained attention as a promising strategy to overcome these limitations. LADD involves using lasers to create microchannels in the skin, facilitating the deposition of drugs and enhancing their penetration into the target tissue. Several lasers, such as fractional CO2, have been tested to see how well they work at delivering drugs. Despite the promising outcomes demonstrated in preclinical and clinical studies, several challenges persist in implementing LADD, including limited penetration depth, potential tissue damage, and the cost of LADD systems. The rapid development of emerging technologies observed in recent years, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile internet, big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of Everything, are generating escalating demands for expanding the capacity density, and speed in next‐generation optical communications. This poses a significant challenge to existing communication techniques. Within this context, the integration of near‐infrared broadband, tunable, and high‐gain luminescent materials into silicon optical circuits or fiber architectures to transmit and modulate light shows enormous potential for advancing next‐generation communication techniques. Here, this review provides an overview of the recent breakthroughs in near‐infrared luminescent epitaxial/colloidal quantum dots, and metal‐active‐center‐doped materials for broadband optical amplifiers and tunable lasers. We also expound on efforts to enhance the bandwidth and gain of these materials‐based amplifiers and lasers, exploring the challenges associate with developing ultra‐broadband and high‐speed optical communication systems. Additionally, the potential applications in Fifth Generation Fixed Networks, integration with 5G and 6G wireless networks, compensation for current Si electronic based CMOS for high computing capability, and the prospects of these light sources for next‐generation optoelectronic devices are discussed. Objective: Endoscopic management of subglottic stenosis (SGS) includes a wide range of techniques. This 17‐year review compares treatment outcomes between carbon dioxide (CO2) laser and cold steel. Study Design: Retrospective chart review. Setting: Single tertiary care center. Methods: A chart review was performed for all patients undergoing endoscopic treatment of SGS at Cleveland Clinic between July 12, 2000 and September 1, 2017. Data collected included demographics, stenosis etiology, stenosis severity, comorbidities, treatment modality, and airway procedure history. The primary endpoint was repeated treatment‐free survival (RTFS) within 2 years using a Kaplan‐Meier analysis and Cox proportional hazard model. Results: A total of 139 patients (median [interquartile range] aged 48.7 [37.8, 57.0] years; 83.4% female) were included in the analysis, with etiologies including idiopathic (56.8%), granulomatosis with polyangiitis (25.2%), and intubation (16.5%). All patients underwent either cold steel (107 patients) or CO2 laser (32 patients) lysis of stenosis with concurrent dilation. RTFS within 2 years was 50.2% for CO2 laser and 31.9% for cold steel (hazard ratio [HR] and 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.69, 0.96‐2.97, P =.07). In patients with no prior airway procedures, there was no difference in RTFS between laser and cold knife (P =.41). However, in patients with prior airway procedures, RTFS was significantly greater in the laser group, even after adjusting for age, smoking history, and stenosis etiology (50.0% vs 16.8%, adjusted HR and CI: 2.82, 1.14‐6.98, P =.025). Purpose: This study systematically reviewed the clinical and radiographic outcomes of laser versus conventional pulpotomy in primary teeth. It also compared the success and effectiveness of different lasers to enhance the understanding and use of laser pulpotomy as an alternative treatment. Methodology: An electronic search was carried out in PubMed and Cochrane from 1st January 1999 to 31st December 2023. The published articles in the English language were searched using MeSH terms and text words. Only randomized controlled trials with a sample size of more than 10 and follow-ups over 6 months were included. Meta-analysis and forest plots were evaluated by utilizing Review Manager 5.4 software. Two reviewers assessed the risk of bias using the RoB 2 tool and discrepancies were resolved by the third reviewer. The success rates were combined using a random effects model to determine clinical and radiographic outcomes. We used risk ratios with 95% confidence intervals (CI) as the primary effect measures and set the significance level at 0.05. Results: Only 18 studies met the inclusion criteria after an electronic search. Among them, 13 studies evaluated the clinical and radiographic outcomes of laser with formocresol pulpotomy, 2 studies compared with ferric sulfate pulpotomy, and the remaining studies with Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) pulpotomy. The various studies showed different levels of bias. There was no significant difference in the clinical success rate (p = 0.47; RR: 1.01; 95% CI 0.98–1.04; I2 = 0%; p = 0.70) and radiographic success rate (p = 0.94; RR: 1.00; 95% CI 0.91–1.09; I2 = 64%; p = 0.001) between laser pulpotomy and formocresol. Similarly, there was no significant difference between laser pulpotomy and ferric sulfate or MTA pulpotomy. Conclusion: Diode laser and LLLT can be considered as alternative pulpotomy agents to formocresol in primary teeth. Most grey horses will develop at least one tumour if they live long enough. Dermal melanoma and dermal melanomatosis are histologically identical, but dermal melanoma can present as either isolated single or multiple discreet lesions, while dermal melanomatosis presents as multiple coalescing lesions. These tumours are slow growing and have a predilection for the base of the tail, perineum, prepuce, parotid salivary gland and commissures of the lips. This report describes 980‐nm diode laser photothermal ablation as a non‐invasive treatment for equine dermal melanoma.To report the results of a series of horses that underwent laser photothermal ablation of equine dermal melanomas with a 980‐nm diode therapy laser.Retrospective case series.Horses were sedated for a standing procedure and restrained in stocks. A thermocouple needle was inserted deep to/into each lesion and the laser was applied either in contact or non‐contact fashion at 4–6 watts until a temperature of 50°C was reached. Masses that were significantly thicker than 1 cm had thermocouple needles placed at multiple levels. After 1 month, treatment sites were re‐evaluated. Lesions in which the planned treatment and follow‐up were completed were included.Fifty‐one individual melanomas in seven horses were included. Fifty lesions were classified as ‘Complete Response’ (CR). One thicker lesion had a ‘Partial Response’ (PR) but there was CR to the depth that temperature was reached.Only tumours approximating 1 cm in thickness are practical.Laser photothermal ablation using a 980‐nm therapy laser is a practical, non‐invasive and readily available modality for treating smaller equine dermal melanomas. Underwater target three-dimensional detection is crucial for effectively recognizing and acquiring target information in complex water rings. The underwater robotic operating system as a conventional underwater operating platform, generally equipped with a binocular or monocular camera, how to utilize the underwater monocular camera with high precision and high efficiency to complete the target three-dimensional information acquisition is the main research starting point of this paper. To this end, this paper proposes a laser-assisted three-dimensional depth monocular detection method for underwater targets, which utilizes three cross lasers to assist the monocular camera system in capturing the depth data at different positions of the target plane at one time. The image correction by the four-point laser calibration method in this paper solves the difficulties of image distortion caused by an unstable underwater environment and lens effect, as well as laser angle deviation caused by the tilting of the underwater robot. The instability of the underwater environment and the lens can cause image distortion, and the tilt of the underwater robot causes the laser angle to deviate. After correcting the image, the depth data between the target and the robot can be calculated based on the geometric relationship that exists between the imaginary rectangle formed by the laser dots and laser lines in the image and the imaginary rectangle formed between the lasers on the device. This method uses a single image to obtain target depth information and is capable of measuring not only horizontal planes but also multiplanes and inclined planes. Experiments show that the algorithm improves the performance accuracy in underwater environments and land environments compared to traditional methods, and obtains depth information for the entire plane at once. Considering the superior luminous intensity characteristics of lasers, a thermal simulation platform employing laser-induced heating in an aerobic environment was developed. Achieving a uniformly distributed flat-topped square laser beam output was facilitated through optical fibre bundling techniques, while precise control over laser power output was attained through current modulation. Utilising the aforementioned system, thermal shock simulation experiments were conducted in an aerobic environment, subjecting two types of high-temperature-resistant composites, namely C/C and C/SiC, to temperatures up to 1800 °C. These composites were lightweight, heat-resistant materials designed for hypersonic vehicle applications. The results show that the system and method can be used to simulate high temperatures, rapid temperature increases, and thermal shocks on C/C composite materials, with minimal variation in the coupling coefficient under aerobic conditions. The system and method can also provide key technology support for thermal-force-oxygen coupling testing of high temperature resistant materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Aims Methods Conclusions Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a prevalent form of hair loss that affects both men and women, severely impacting patients' quality of life. Traditional treatments include oral medications, topical medications, and hair transplantation, but these methods have certain side effects and limitations. How to safely effectively and maximally promote hair growth has been a key issue in the treatment of AGA. In recent years, fractionated laser therapy, as a noninvasive method, has gradually gained attention due to its minimally invasive and highly effective nature.In this paper, we summarized the studies related to fractional laser treatment of AGA in the past 15 years, and discussed its therapeutic mechanism, clinical effect, future development direction, and advantages and disadvantages compared with traditional treatment methods in the treatment of AGA.An extensive literature search was conducted using PubMed, Google, Google Scholar, Embase, and Scopus. All available articles studying fractional laser treatment of AGA were compiled in March 2024. Titles and abstracts were then screened for relevance and thoroughly examined for patient clinical outcomes. Prospective clinical trials, retrospective chart reviews, case series, and individual case reports were included in the literature review.Fractional laser treatment of AGA showed remarkable efficacy and high safety. Compared with traditional treatments, fractional laser has the advantages of minimally invasive, quick recovery, fewer side effects, and a wide range of population applicability, providing an effective treatment option for AGA patients. In recent years, essential oils (EOs) have received increased attention from the research community, and the EOs of cinnamon, patchouli, and geranium have become highly recognized for their antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and antioxidant effects. Due to these properties, they have become valuable and promising candidates for addressing the worldwide threat of antimicrobial resistance and other diseases. Simultaneously, studies have revealed promising new results regarding the effects of physical fields (magnetic and electric) and LASER (MEL) exposure on seed germination, plant growth, biomass accumulation, and the yield and composition of EOs. In this frame, the present study aims to investigate the influence of MEL treatments on cinnamon, patchouli, and geranium EOs, by specifically examining their composition, antimicrobial properties, and antioxidant activities. Results showed that the magnetic influence has improved the potency of patchouli EO against L. monocytogenes, S. enteritidis, and P. aeruginosa, while the antimicrobial activity of cinnamon EO against L. monocytogenes was enhanced by the electric and laser treatments. All exposures have increased the antifungal effect of geranium EO against C. albicans. The antioxidant activity was not modified by any of the treatments. These findings could potentially pave the way for a deeper understanding of the efficiency, the mechanisms of action, and the utilization of EOs, offering new insights for further exploration and application.
