Abstract

O sexting é uma prática cada vez mais frequente na sociedade atual, mas ainda há poucos estudos sobre como os brasileiros veem a troca de mensagens sexuais. O objetivo desse estudo foi investigar a percepção de brasileiros acerca do sexting e fornecer um panorama de como o fenômeno ocorre na realidade brasileira. Foi realizado um survey online com perguntas discursivas com 41 participantes sobre a dinâmica da prática e foi utilizada a análise de conteúdo para tratamento dos dados. Os resultados revelaram que algumas visões sociais são permeadas por estereótipos, como se observa em pesquisas de outros países. O sexting ainda é em muitos momentos confundido com diferentes formas de violência, apesar de estar sendo naturalizado no país e de já ser parte da experiência sexual cotidiana de muitas pessoas. Evidenciou-se que a educação sexual no contexto digital se faz necessária para que as pessoas compreendam seus direitos e reconheçam as diferenças entre sexting saudável e violências possivelmente atreladas à prática.

2. Precipitation effects on grassland plant performance are lessened by hay harvest

Abstract

Abstract Climate and human management, such as hay harvest, shape grasslands. With both disturbances co-occurring, understanding how these ecosystems respond to these combined drivers may aid in projecting future changes in grasslands. We used an experimental precipitation gradient combined with mimicked acute hay harvest (clipping once a year) to examine (1) whether hay harvest influences precipitation effects on plant performance (cover and height) and (2) the role of inter-specific responses in influencing plant performance. We found that hay harvest reduced the strength of precipitation effects on plant performance through changes in bare-ground soil cover. Species performance were mainly influenced by change in abiotic factors, often responding negatively, as hay harvest increased bare-ground amount. Conversely, altered precipitation without hay harvest promoted plant species performance through abiotic factors change first, followed by biotic. Most species, including the dominant grass Schizachyrium scoparium, increased their performance with greater leaf area index (proxy for canopy structure). Our experiment demonstrates that plant performance responds directly to abiotic factors with hay harvest, but indirectly without hay harvest. Positive effects of increasing precipitation were likely due to microhabitat amelioration and resource acquisition, thus inclusion of hay harvest as a disturbance lessens positive impacts of biotic variables on species performance to climate change.

Abstract

Abstract Ecological communities are being impacted by global change worldwide. Experiments are a powerful tool to understand how global change will impact communities by comparing control and treatment replicates. Communities consist of multiple species, and their associated abundances make multivariate methods an effective approach to study community compositional differences between control and treated replicates. Dissimilarity metrics are a commonly employed multivariate measure of compositional differences; however, while highly informative, dissimilarity metrics do not elucidate the specific ways in which communities differ. Integrating two multivariate methods, dissimilarity metrics and rank abundance curves (RACs), have the potential to detect complex differences based on dissimilarity metrics and detail the how these differences came about through differences in richness, evenness, species ranks, or species identity. Here we use a database of 106 global change experiments located in herbaceous ecosystems and explore how patterns of ordinations based on dissimilarity metrics relate to RAC‐based differences. We find that combining dissimilarity metrics alongside RAC‐based measures clarifies how global change treatments are altering communities. We find that when there is no difference in community composition (no distance between centroids of control and treated replicates), there are rarely differences in species ranks or species identities and more often differences in richness or evenness alone. In contrast, when there are differences between centroids of control and treated replicates, this is most often associated with differences in ranks either alone or co‐occurring with differences in richness, evenness, or species identities. We suggest that integrating these two multivariate measures of community composition results in a deeper understanding of how global change impacts communities.

4. Drought mildly reduces plant dominance in a temperate prairie ecosystem across years

Abstract

Abstract Shifts in dominance and species reordering can occur in response to global change. However, it is not clear how altered precipitation and disturbance regimes interact to affect species composition and dominance. We explored community‐level diversity and compositional similarity responses, both across and within years, to a manipulated precipitation gradient and annual clipping in a mixed‐grass prairie in Oklahoma, USA. We imposed seven precipitation treatments (five water exclusion levels [−20%, −40%, −60%, −80%, and −100%], water addition [+50%], and control [0% change in precipitation]) year‐round from 2016 to 2018 using fixed interception shelters. These treatments were crossed with annual clipping to mimic hay harvest. We found that community‐level responses were influenced by precipitation across time. For instance, plant evenness was enhanced by extreme drought treatments, while plant richness was marginally promoted under increased precipitation. Clipping promoted species gain resulting in greater richness within each experimental year. Across years, clipping effects further reduced the precipitation effects on community‐level responses (richness and evenness) at both extreme drought and added precipitation treatments. Synthesis: Our results highlight the importance of studying interactive drivers of change both within versus across time. For instance, clipping attenuated community‐level responses to a gradient in precipitation, suggesting that management could buffer community‐level responses to drought. However, precipitation effects were mild and likely to accentuate over time to produce further community change.

Abstract

Abstract Simultaneous reductions in herbivore abundance and increases in nitrogen deposition have led to radical shifts in plant communities worldwide. While the individual impacts of these human‐caused disturbances are apparent, few studies manipulate both herbivory and N, nor differentiate among herbivore guilds, to understand contingencies in the ability of these drivers to affect producer diversity and productivity. As such, understanding how the main and combined effects of increasing soil N with declining herbivores may influence plant community structure and function is critical to better understand the future of grassland ecosystems under multiple global change drivers. In this study, we asked: (a) What are the main effects of small mammal herbivores, invertebrate herbivores, and soil N on plant community structure and function? and (b) Are the effects of invertebrate herbivores and soil N on plant community structure and function contingent on small mammal herbivory? We used a nested design, with invertebrate and soil N treatments nested within small mammal manipulations in an existing tallgrass prairie. We measured plant community structure by quantifying plant richness, evenness, diversity, and composition across two full growing seasons. We also recorded total aboveground biomass to quantify grassland productivity. We found that small mammal herbivores strongly shaped plant diversity, species composition, and productivity. Small mammal herbivores also mediated the effects of soil N and invertebrate herbivores on grassland community structure, but not composition or productivity. Small mammal reduction lowered plant species richness while increasing aboveground biomass and altering compositional similarity. Invertebrate herbivores, in the presence of small mammals, promoted plant dominance by reducing evenness without altering compositional similarity. Additionally, soil nitrogen addition reduced plant richness, but only when small mammals were reduced, and no effects were detected on compositional similarity or productivity. Our findings provide further evidence that temperate grasslands can be strongly influenced by consumers, and that consumers mediate the effects of resources as well as other consumer guilds on producer evenness and richness. Taken together, we provide evidence of strong contingencies in the drivers of grassland structure, with small mammals directly altering plant diversity as well as mediating the effects of soil nitrogen and invertebrate herbivory on plant richness and evenness. Therefore, we suggest it is imperative to consider how consumer guilds and resource types may interact to shape grassland plant communities.

Abstract

Resumo Presenciar um crime é uma situação de grande estresse e com forte carga emocional, fatores diretamente relacionados à qualidade do relato de testemunhas oculares. Em dois experimentos, participantes assistiram a eventos com diferentes cargas emocionais (neutro, assalto ou assassinato) e forneceram seus relatos após diferentes intervalos de retenção (teste imediato, 7 dias, 14 dias ou 21 dias). Os resultados mostraram que a carga emocional não teve efeito na memória de testemunhas para aspectos do crime e características do criminoso. O evento com maior carga emocional teve um efeito benéfico na memória após um intervalo de 7 dias, mas tal efeito não ocorreu em intervalos mais longos. Implicações teóricas e práticas relacionadas à interpretação do relato de testemunhas são discutidas.

7. Sexting and Gender Violence Among Young People: An Integrative Literature Review.

Abstract

Abstract This review aimed to systematize the studies on sexting and gender violence published between 2000 and 2016 in national and international journals. The search was performed in the databases - BVS-Psi, Psychlit, Medline, LILACS, and Oasis. We found 383 articles. After applying the exclusion criteria, 21 articles were analyzed. The results showed that sexting is not an a priori risk factor. The risk is related to variables such as the content of the messages, when it expresses violence, and age of the practitioners, indicating that the younger the age the greater the risk. It has been found that there are modalities related to gender violence, such as revenge pornography and slut-shaming, but these contents are not inherent to sexting.

Abstract

Abstract Warming is altering the way soils function in ecosystems both directly by changing microbial physiology and indirectly by causing shifts in microbial community composition. Some of these warming‐driven changes are short term, but others may persist over time. Here, we took advantage of a long‐term (14 yr) warming experiment in a tallgrass prairie to tease apart the influence of short‐ and long‐term warming on litter decomposition. We collected soils originating from warmed and control plots and incubated them with a common litter substrate in a reciprocal design under elevated and ambient growth chamber temperatures. Litter decomposition was 40% higher in soils that were warmed in the field for 14 yr (long‐term warming) relative to soils derived from ambient plots. Short‐term warming in the laboratory had less of an impact on decomposition—decomposition increased by 12% under laboratory warming. Using a two‐pool soil carbon model to explore how different carbon pools may be responding, we found that long‐term warming accelerated the turnover of labile, not recalcitrant, carbon in these prairie soils—a result that is likely due to shifts in soil community activity/composition. Taken together, our results offer experimental evidence that warming‐induced changes in the soil community that occur over 14 yr of warming have long‐lasting effects on carbon turnover.

Abstract

Background Understanding the underlying factors that determine the relative abundance of plant species is critical to predict both biodiversity and ecosystem function. Biotic and abiotic factors can shape the distribution and the relative abundance of species across natural communities, greatly influencing local biodiversity. Methods Using a combination of an observational study and a five-year plant removal experiment we: (1) documented how plant diversity and composition of montane meadow assemblages vary along a plant dominance gradient using an observational study; (2) tracked above- and belowground functional traits of co-dominant plant species Potentilla and Festuca along a plant dominance gradient in an observational study; (3) determined whether plant species diversity and composition was directly influenced by commonly occurring species Potentilla and Festuca with the use of a randomized plot design, 5-year plant removal experiment (no removal control, Potentilla removed, Festuca removed, n = 10). Results We found that subordinate species diversity and compositional dissimilarity were greatest in Potentilla and Festuca co-dominated sites, where neither Potentilla nor Festuca dominated, rather than at sites where either species became dominant. Further, while above- and belowground plant functional traits varied along a dominance gradient, they did so in a way that inconsistently predicted plant species relative abundance. Also, neither variation in plant functional traits of Festuca and Potentilla nor variation in resources and conditions (such as soil nitrogen and temperature) explained our subordinate diversity patterns. Finally, neither Potentilla nor Festuca influenced subordinate diversity or composition when we directly tested for their impacts in a plant removal experiment. Discussion Taken together, patterns of subordinate diversity and composition were likely driven by abiotic factors rather than biotic interactions. As a result, the role of abiotic factors influencing local-level species interactions can be just as important as biotic interactions themselves in structuring plant communities.

Abstract

Objetivo: Investigar o impacto da educação em primeiros socorros para escolares. Método:Realizada uma revisão de literatura do tipo integrativa, que utilizou a estratégia PICo para elaboração de pesquisa. A busca se deu entre os meses de maio a agosto de 2021 na Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), a partir dos Descritores em Ciência da Saúde “Primeiros socorros, Ensino e Escolares” e no Medical Subject Headings (MESH) “First Aid”, “Education” e “Students”, totalizando 07 artigos publicados no período de 2011 à 2021. Resultados: Identificou-se que os escolares que tiveram aproximação com a temática primeiros socorros, principalmente com metodologias ativas, simulações realísticas, ajudam na prevenção de acidentes e quando estes ocorrerem podem manusear as emergências mais comuns para o salvamento de vidas. Conclusão: Desta forma, os estudantes compreendem a importância desta temática abordada nas escolas para salvar vidas, através de ações didáticas que focam nas principais emergências acometidas pela sociedade.

26. Annual and perennial crop composition impacts on soil carbon and nitrogen dynamics at two different depths

Abstract

The sustainability of an agricultural field is largely influenced by crop growth habit and management practices such as tillage. Both strongly interact to shape ecosystem properties such as the fluxes and stocks of carbon and nitrogen. Recently, researchers have worked to develop perennial grain crops in order to enhance key ecosystem processes, such as carbon cycling and nitrogen fixation, with the use of perennial crops rather than traditionally used annual crops. In this study, we aimed to understand how soil disturbance combined with vegetation type [annual monoculture crops vs. perennial monocultures (intermediate wheatgrass (IWG)) vs restored native vegetation (RNV)] influenced the soil carbon and nitrogen dynamics. We collected soil samples at two depths (0–15 cm and 15–30 cm) from each vegetation treatment and incubated the soils in the laboratory for 120 days to determine the efflux of carbon and also analyzed the mineralization of both carbon and nitrogen. The results demonstrated the soils from the IWG had the greatest carbon flux, as well as carbon and nitrogen storage (annual monoculture < RNV < IWG). The differences in carbon flux, carbon and nitrogen storage from the IWG to the annual monoculture were 27, 40, 20%, respectively, while the IWG to the RNV was 11, 20, 10%. Shallow soil samples exhibited greater differences in all C and N comparisons between treatments compared to deeper soil samples. Taken together, our findings indicate that crop vegetation type and soil depth strongly influence carbon and nitrogen dynamics.

27. Síndrome de Burnout na Covid-19: Os Impactos na Saúde dos Trabalhadores da Saúde

Abstract

A pandemia do novo Coronavírus causou grandes repercussões socioeconômicas e na saúde pública, levando a sociedade a se adaptar a uma realidade que inclui isolamento social e rotina de teletrabalho. Contudo, os profissionais de saúde possuem uma posição fundamental no combate a pandemia, estando constantemente expostos ao vírus. Além disso, o esgotamento físico e mental aos quais estão expostos, faz com que muitos desenvolvam a Síndrome de Burnout. Este estudo analisou os aspectos do processo de desenvolvimento de Burnout pelos profissionais da saúde em virtude da pandemia da Covid-19. Foi realizada revisão integrativa da literatura nas bases de dados Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) e PUBMED, com os descritores “COVID-19”, “Burnout”, “Saúde do Trabalhador” e “Profissional da saúde”. A amostra foi composta por 44 artigos analisados por seu conteúdo com base em três núcleos temáticos. Quando abordados os impactos no processo de saúde e doença, a 48% dos artigos apontaram a depressão, 45% Burnout e 41% estresse. Quanto a promoção da saúde, 64% apresentaram propostas de intervenções preventivas em relação à doença mental e 59% o fornecimento de suporte emocional. Quanto aos fatores determinantes sociais da saúde, 50% destacaram o aumento da carga de trabalho, 64% o fato de ser profissional da área da saúde e 31% o esgotamento físico e mental. Dessa forma, faz-se necessário a implementação de estratégias de promoção de saúde no âmbito desses trabalhadores, com o intuito de minimizar os efeitos físicos e emocionais vivenciados por eles, e assim, melhorar a qualidade do serviço prestado.

Abstract

Most biological invasion literature—including syntheses and meta-analyses and the resulting theory—is reported from temperate regions, drawing only minimally from the tropics except for some island systems. The lack of attention to invasions in the tropics results from and reinforces the assumption that tropical ecosystems, and especially the continental tropics, are more resistant to invasions. We have critically assessed biological invasions in the tropics and compared them with temperate regions, finding relatively weak evidence that tropical and temperate regions differ in their invasibility and in the traits that determine invader success and impacts. Propagule pressure and the traits that promote adaptation to disturbances (e.g., high fecundity or fast growth rates) are generally favorable to invasions in both tropical and temperate regions. We emphasize the urgent need for greater investment and regional cooperation in the study, prevention, and management of biological invasions in the tropics.

Abstract

This article aims to reflect on sexting in the context of COVID-19, given its recommendation as a legitimate way of expressing sexuality in times of social distance. A narrative review was carried out, and documents issued by different countries were analyzed, presenting contents that express concern about the avoidance of contagion in affective-sexual expressions and pointing out possible risks of this practice. The strategic guidelines clarify alternative forms for affective relationships that avoid physical contact, pointing to sexting as a viable strategy for sexuality associated with other online experiences. Although sexting is an experience already consolidated in a technological society, information was presented about the stereotypes that permeate it. It also dealt with the risks that these experiences may involve, warning about distinctions between sexting and pornography and actions that encompass the adolescent public. We concluded that sexting needs to be investigated in the cultural context, and future studies are suggested to follow possible resignifications in the post-pandemic period.

43. Effects of drought on grassland phenology depend on functional types

Abstract

Shifts in flowering phenology are important indicators of climate change. However, the role of precipitation in driving phenology is far less understood compared with other environmental cues, such as temperature. We use a precipitation reduction gradient to test the direction and magnitude of effects on reproductive phenology and reproduction across 11 plant species in a temperate grassland, a moisture-limited ecosystem. Our experiment was conducted in a single, relatively wet year. We examine the effects of precipitation for species, functional types, and the community. Our results provide evidence that reduced precipitation shifts phenology, alters flower and fruit production, and that the magnitude and direction of the responses depend on functional type and species. For example, early-blooming species shift toward earlier flowering, whereas later-blooming species shift toward later flowering. Because of opposing species-level shifts, there is no overall shift in community-level phenology. This study provides experimental evidence that changes in rainfall can drive phenological shifts. Our results additionally highlight the importance of understanding how plant functional types govern responses to changing climate conditions, which is relevant for forecasting phenology and community-level changes. Specifically, the implications of divergent phenological shifts between early- and late-flowering species include resource scarcity for pollinators and seed dispersers and new temporal windows for invasion.

Abstract

We describe the development and testing of qPCR assays to detect four species of amphibians and reptiles of conservation concern in the South Central United States through environmental DNA (eDNA) samples. The target species include the Ringed Salamander (Ambystoma annulatum), Three-toed Amphiuma (Amphiuma tridactylum), Crawfish Frog (Rana areolata), and Chicken Turtle (Deirochelys reticularia). A set of primers and probes amplifying a 64–72 bp target regions were designed for each species from DNA sequence data for either the mitochondrial Cytochrome Oxidase I or Cytochrome B gene. All assays were assessed for target specificity, with no evidence of amplification in closely related or sympatrically-distributed non-target species. In vitro tests indicate that all assays consistently detect focal species down to concentrations of 2 × 10− 9 pg/µL. We evaluated the utility of qPCR assays on the eDNA samples collected during field surveys across Eastern Oklahoma, focusing on counties with vouchered historical records for the target species. Although detection rates were low for field applications of the assays, positive detection of Ambystoma annulatum, Rana areolata, and Deirochelys reticularia, but not Amphiuma tridactylum, were recorded. These assays can provide a practical tool for a non-invasive, genetic monitoring program that allows for both rapid detection and tracking of native aquatic and semi-aquatic amphibian and reptile species of conservation concern.

Abstract

Shifts in dominance and species reordering can occur in response to global change. However, it is not clear how altered precipitation and disturbance regimes interact to affect species composition and dominance.We explored community‐level diversity and compositional similarity responses, both across and within years, to a manipulated precipitation gradient and annual clipping in a mixed‐grass prairie in Oklahoma, USA. We imposed seven precipitation treatments (five water exclusion levels [−20%, −40%, −60%, −80%, and −100%], water addition [+50%], and control [0% change in precipitation]) year‐round from 2016 to 2018 using fixed interception shelters. These treatments were crossed with annual clipping to mimic hay harvest.We found that community‐level responses were influenced by precipitation across time. For instance, plant evenness was enhanced by extreme drought treatments, while plant richness was marginally promoted under increased precipitation.Clipping promoted species gain resulting in greater richness within each experimental year. Across years, clipping effects further reduced the precipitation effects on community‐level responses (richness and evenness) at both extreme drought and added precipitation treatments. Synthesis: Our results highlight the importance of studying interactive drivers of change both within versus across time. For instance, clipping attenuated community‐level responses to a gradient in precipitation, suggesting that management could buffer community‐level responses to drought. However, precipitation effects were mild and likely to accentuate over time to produce further community change., Shifts in dominance and species reordering can occur in response to global change. We manipulated an experimental precipitation gradient combined with clipping in a temperate mixed‐grass prairie to examine how both treatments can shape plant communities. We found that initial shifts in abundance were detected by examining species‐ to community‐level changes over time; drought increased evenness and this was related to the decline of the dominant species and increase in subdominants, while mesic conditions mildly promoted plant richness.

Abstract

Patterns of insect herbivory may follow predictable geographical gradients, with greater herbivory at low latitudes. However, biogeographic studies of insect herbivory often do not account for multiple abiotic factors (e.g., precipitation and soil nutrients) that could underlie gradients. We tested for latitudinal clines in insect herbivory as well as climatic, edaphic, and trait‐based drivers of herbivory. We quantified herbivory on five dominant grass species over 23 sites across the Great Plains, USA. We examined the importance of climate, edaphic factors, and traits as correlates of herbivory. Herbivory increased at low latitudes when all grass species were analyzed together and for two grass species individually, while two other grasses trended in this direction. Higher precipitation was related to more herbivory for two species but less herbivory for a different species, while higher specific root length was related to more herbivory for one species and less herbivory for a different species. Taken together, results highlight that climate and trait‐based correlates of herbivory can be highly contextual and species‐specific. Patterns of insect herbivory on dominant grasses support the hypothesis that herbivory increases toward lower latitudes, though weakly, and indicates that climate change may have species‐specific effects on plant–herbivore interactions., We investigated latitudinal patterns of insect herbivory in dominant North American rangeland grasses, finding support for the hypothesis that herbivory increases toward lower latitudes. Precipitation and plant functional traits were predictive of herbivory but in a species‐specific manner. Together, results suggest that geographic variation in herbivory is related to climate, soil, and plant traits in a species‐specific manner.

Abstract

Corps, mouvement, intentionnalité, sensibilité, temporalité sont des mots qui engagent ici des significations vers une compréhension phénoménologique de l'éducation qui habite l'espace et le temps de manière intersubjective, singulière et existentielle. Ce livre présente son propre mouvement en éducation, fortement soutenu par la pensée du philosophe français Maurice Merleau-Ponty (1908-1961) et du médecin et psychologue néerlandais Frederik Jacobus Johannes Buytendijk (1887-1974). Dans cette étude, éclairée par la philosophe Petrucia da Nóbrega, Christyan Giullianno réfléchit sur son expérience vécue comme un outil pour projeter une compréhension phénoménologique de l'éducation physique dans ses nuances éducatives.
