This study evaluated the isotopic composition of three zooplankton species - Notodiaptomus amazonicus (Wright, 1935), Moina minuta Hansen, 1899 and Bosmina hagmanni Stingelin, 1904 - from the Upper Paraná River floodplain. We predicted that there would be isotopic variability among species in the different sampled environments. Samplings were conducted in three lakes from the Baía subsystem and in two lakes from the Paraná subsystem. At each location, some abiotic variables were measured, and zooplankton (3 to 4) and phytoplankton (3) samples were taken. The species sampled did not present significant differences between subsystems; however, they were different among the lakes, with variations of about 10.8‰ for δ13C and 5.8‰ for δ15N. The isotopic values found for phytoplankton also did not differ significantly among sampling stations, presenting variations of about 9.3‰ for δ13C and 7.4‰ for δ15N. These results indicate that the isotopic values of species varied among the lakes, and that they are dependent on isotopic signals from phytoplankton.

This paper intends to be a contribution on the occurrence and geographical distribution of testate amoebae (Protozoa, Amoebozoa, Rhizopoda) in Brazilian inland waters, specifically the families Hyalospheniidae, Plagiopyxidae, Microcoryciidae, Cryptodifflugiidae, Phryganelidae, Euglyphidae, Trinematiidae and Cyphoderiidae. Fifty-four infra-generic taxa have been recorded. The genera with the greatest number of taxa are Nebela (Hyalospheniidae), with 17 taxa, and Euglypha (Euglyphidae), with 14 taxa. Euglypha acantophora (Ehrenberg), E. cristata Leidy, E. laevis (Ehrenberg), E. strigosa (Ehrenberg), Trinema enchelys (Ehrenberg), T. lineare Pénard and Cyphoderia ampulla (Ehrenberg) are the species with the greatest number of records in Brazil. Current research is a contribution towards the knowledge of testate amoebae (Protozoa, Amoebozoa, Rhizopoda) in Brazilian inland waters, specifically of the genera Cucurbitella, Lagenodifflugia, Pentagonia, Pontigulasia, Protocucurbitella, Suiadifflugia (Difflugiidae), and Lesquereusia, Quadrulella, Netzelia (Lesquereusiidae). In this paper the occurrence and geographical distribution of these genera in Brazil are discussed. A total of 22 infra-generic taxa are recorded, among which 6 belong to the genus Cucurbitella, 5 to Lesquereusia, 3 to Netzelia, 2 to Pontigulasia, 2 to Quadrulella, 1 to Lagenodifflugia, 1 to Pentagonia, 1 to Protocucurbitella and 1 to Suiadifflugia. Spatial and temporal variation was analyzed in the composition, diversity, and abundance of cyclopoid copepods associated with Eichhornia azurea (Swartz) Kunth in two lotic environments of the Upper Paraná river basin. Sixteen cyclopoid taxa were identified. There were no differences in the composition of copepod species between environments or hydrological phases. Cyclopoids were generally more abundant during the low water phase. The most abundant species in both environments were Macrocyclops albidus albidus (Jurine) and Microcyclops finitimus Dussart. Densities and some measurements of species richness were in general higher in the Ivinheima River, which has many associated floodplain lakes. This fact suggests the importance of associated lentic environments for patterns of abundance and species richness found in lotic environments. Low values for β diversity of the cyclopoid assemblage in both environments seem to indicate that the littoral region has low temporal heterogeneity Analisamos a variação espacial e temporal da composição, diversidade e abundância dos copépodos ciclopóides associados à Eichhornia azurea (Swartz) Kunth em dois ambientes lóticos da bacia do alto rio Paraná. Foram identificados dezesseis táxons de ciclopóides. Não foram constatadas diferenças na composição de espécies entre os ambientes ou fases hidrológicas. Os ciclopóides foram, em geral, mais abundantes durante a fase de águas baixas. As espécies mais abundantes nos dois ambientes foram Macrocyclops albidus albidus (Jurine) e Microcyclops finitimus Dussart. As densidades e algumas medidas de riqueza de espécies foram, em geral, maiores no rio Ivinheima, o qual apresenta muitas lagoas de várzea associadas. Esse fato sugere a importância de ambientes lênticos para os padrões de abundância e riqueza de espécies encontrados em ambientes lóticos. Os baixos valores de diversidade β para a assembléia de ciclopóides nos dois ambientes estudados sugerem que a região litorânea têm uma baixa heterogeneidade temporal

Among the testate amoebae the genus Difflugia contains the largest number of species, comprising about three hundred named species, varieties and forms. Testate amoebae fauna, more intensively studied in recent years in Brazil, hailed from a variety of different habitats such as sediments, aquatic macrophytes and the plankton. However, these studies have been limited to few geographic regions. In this study we furnish current information on the geographic distribution and occurrence of the species of genus Difflugia in Brazilian inland waters. Taxonomic information is also provided. A total of 60 infra-generic taxa is listed, among which Difflugia corona Wallich, D. lobostoma Leidy, D. oblonga Ehrenberg, D. urceolata Carter and D. acuminate Ehrenberg are the most frequent and the most widespread in freshwater environments in Brazil Entre as tecamebas, o gênero Difflugia apresenta o maior número de espécies, com aproximadamente 300 espécies, variedades e formas descritas. No Brasil, a fauna de tecamebas, proveniente de diferentes hábitats, como sedimento,macrófitas aquáticas e plânton, tem sido mais intensivamente estudada nos últimos anos. No entanto, essas pesquisas estão limitadas a poucas regiões geográficas. Neste estudo,são fornecidas informações sobre a distribuição geográfica e a ocorrência das espécies do gênero Difflugia no Brasil. Informações taxonômicas atualizadas são fornecidas. É apresentado um total de 60 táxons infragenéricos, dentre os quais Difflugia corona Wallich, D. lobostoma Leidy, D. oblonga Ehrenberg, D. urceolata Carter and D. acuminata Ehrenberg são os que apresentam maior freqüência de ocorrência e os mais amplamente distribuídos nos sistemas de água doce brasileiros

The present study aimed to analyze the species richness of testate amoebae, as well as to describe their geographic distribution and different habitat types in Brazilian freshwater environments. Until now, 346 infrageneric taxa have been recorded, belonging to 13 families and 40 genera. In the Center-West region, 267 taxa were recorded; 188 taxa in the Southeast; 129 taxa in the South, 53 taxa in the North; and 18 taxa in Northeast region. A total of 282 taxa were recorded in plankton; 80 taxa in aquatic macrophytes; 81 taxa in sediment; and 73 taxa in moss/sphagnum. The results regarding testate amoebae species richness are not yet conclusive, given that most research on these organisms was carried out in central, southeastern and southern Brazil. The higher number of taxa observed in plankton may be due to the fact that most studies on testate amoebae in Brazil had been carried out in the planktonic compartment, including reservoirs, floodplain lagoons, channels, tributaries and rivers. In addition, the majority of studies with sediment samples were conducted in estuaries or coastal lagoons, where salinity is a restricting factor for the occurrence of these organisms. Este trabalho visa realizar um levantamento da riqueza de espécies de amebas testáceas, bem como descrever a distribuição geográfica e a distribuição em diferentes tipos de habitats desses organismos em ambientes aquáticos continentais brasileiros. Até o momento, são registrados 346 táxons infragenéricos, pertencentes a 13 famílias e 40 gêneros. São registrados 267 táxons na região centro-oeste, 188 táxons na região sudeste, 129 táxons na região sul, 53 táxons na região norte e 18 táxons na região nordeste. São registrados 282 táxons no plâncton; 131 táxons em macrófitas aquáticas, 81 táxons no sedimento e 73 táxons em musgos/esfágnos. Os resultados sobre a riqueza de tecamebas não é ainda conclusiva, visto que a maioria das pesquisas foi conduzida nas regiões centro-oeste, sudeste e sul. O maior número de táxons registrados no plâncton pode ser em virtude de que a maioria dos estudos sobre tecamebas, no Brasil, ter sido realizada no compartimento planctônico, incluindo reservatórios, lagoas de várzeas, canais, tributários e rios. Além disso, a maior parte dos estudos, em amostras de sedimento, foi conduzida em estuários ou lagoas costeiras, onde a salinidade é um fator limitante para a ocorrência desses organismos.
