A series of Sm-Mn perovskite@mullite composites with different amounts of acid sites were successfully synthesized by regulating the level of in situ etched-surface modification. X-ray diffraction (XRD) test showed that the crystal structure of catalyst gradually changed from perovskite to perovskite@mullite composites and mullite. The characterization of temperature programmed desorption with ammonia (NH3-TPD) confirmed the acid sites on the surface of catalyst can be deployed by the in-situ modification. The temperature-programmed reduction with hydrogen (H2-TPR), and N2 adsorption–desorption showed that the surface modification also increased the reducibility, surface area, and mesoporosity of catalyst. The catalytic activities were compared by a long-term catalytic oxidation of chlorobenzene evaluation for 20 h of uninterrupted reaction at a relatively low temperature of 300 °C, and the Sm-Mn perovskite@mullite composite (SMPM-1.2) possessed the best catalytic stability. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurement determined that the high ratios of lattice oxygen and tetravalent manganese did not improve the stability of catalyst in the catalytic oxidation of chlorobenzene, but the activities trends of samples were consistent with the change of surface (Mn4++Mn3+)/Mn2+ ratios. Meanwhile, the catalytic experiments for benzene, toluene, o-xylene and acetone showed that the as-prepared catalyst was also suitable for the efficient removal of the different types of VOCs. This work supplied a method for the further development of high activity catalysts for the removal of VOCs.

An efficient and mild system for the aromatic halogenation using DABCO, a simple, cheap and easy of handling Lewis base, as the catalyst is reported.

Uniform, well-defined cadmium sulfide@cadmium selenide core/shell quantum dots (CdS@CdSe QDs) were, for the first time, successfully synthesized by a solvothermal method and chemical bath growth for photoelectrochemical activities. The as-synthesized CdS@CdSe QDs not only exhibit superior self-powered photoresponse behavior and excellent stability under ambient conditions but also display significantly improved current densities and photoresponsivity compared to those of individual CdS QDs or CdSe QDs, mainly due to the built-in electric field, and thus have great potential in the fields of renewable energy and renewable energy consumption for carbon neutrality target achievement.

Metal oxide-based materials are attractive anode candidates for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) because of their high theoretical capacity. However, these materials suffer from large volume expansion and poor stability of solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) during the charge-discharge process, casusing rapid capacity degradation. Herein, we report that Li3PO4-rooted and intact SEI in situ formed on the phosphate-modified SnO2/CNFs during cycling. The phosphate anions in the anode, could serve as the root to form Li3PO4 by bonding with Li ions and participate in the formation of the SEI, thus firmly anchoring and stabilizing the SEI layer. The rooted Li3PO4 and enriched LiF in the SEI could synergistically enhance the Li-ion diffusion, significantly reduce the volume expansion, and lead to ultrastable cycling performance over 1100 charge-discharge cycles at 1 A g-1. This work provides a new avenue for forming stable SEI rooted into the anode and inspires the development of interface engineering toward electrochemical energy storage.

The aim of the study was to assess the clinical utility of a third-generation sequencing (TGS) approach termed comprehensive analysis of thalassemia alleles (CATSA) for identifying both α and β thalassemia genetic carrier status. Prospective blood samples (n = 1759) with abnormal hemoglobin parameters were screened for pathogenic thalassemia variants by CATSA on the PacBio TGS platform. In 1159 individuals, a total of 1317 pathogenic thalassemia variants were identified and confirmed by independent PCR-based tests. Of the total thalassemia variants detected, the α-variant --SEA (35.4%) and β-variant c.126_129delCTTT (15%) were the most common. CATSA was also able to detect three types of rare HBA structural variants as well as five rare HBA2, three HBA1, and 10 HBB single-nucleotide variations/insertions and deletions. Compared with standard thalassemia variant PCR panel testing, CATSA identified all panel variants present, with no false-negative results. Carrier assignment was improved through identification of rare variants missed by the panel test. On the basis of allelic coverage, reliability, and accuracy, TGS with long-range PCR presents a comprehensive approach with the potential to provide a universal solution for thalassemia genetic carrier screening. It is proposed that CATSA has immediate clinical utility as an effective carrier screening approach for at-risk couples.

Background: Tetrasomy 18p syndrome is a very rare chromosomal disorder that is caused by the presence of isochromosome 18p.Most tetrasomy 18p cases are de novo cases,maternal origin trisomy 18p is a very rare condition.At present, only 4 cases of maternal origin trisomy 18p have been reported.This was the the fifth from maternal trisomy 18p,the mother has no apparent disease phenotype.Case presentation: We hereby report a case of a fetus with normal ultrasound features, the Karyotyping and Single Nucleotide Polymophism array (SNP array) confirmed tetrasomy 18p.The mother and grandfather are phenotypically normal and healthy,but with trisomy 18p was confirmed by conventional karyotyping and SNP array.Conclusions: We report a family with an 18p trisomic mother and grandfather,18p tetrasomic fetus,the mother and grandfather are phenotypically normal. The findings could provide a reference for the genetic counseling of trisomy

Pillar[n]arene-based amphiphiles, mainly including amphiphilic pillar[n]arenes and supra-amphiphilic pillar[n]arenes, have obtained considerable interests in recent years due to their fascinating chemical structures, various self-assembly behaviors, and widely applications. Thanks to the pillar-like frameworks and the rich host-guest recognitions of the cavities, these amphiphiles can be easily controlled to form dimensional and morphologic assemblies for multiple applications. Compared with traditional linear covalent amphiphiles, the introduction of host-guest recognitions facilitated the preparation and controllability of these supramolecular amphiphilic systems. Moreover, the host-guest recognitions endow the assemblies from pillar[n]arene-based amphiphiles with stimuli-responsive functions. In this mini-review, we summarized the chemical structures, self-assembly features, and the applications of pillar[n]arene-based amphiphiles. However, several research topics of pillar[n]arene-based amphiphiles can be further developed in the future, such as larger cavity amphiphilic pillar[n]arenes, co-assembly with 2D materials and utilization of the host-guest interactions.

Hollow MoS2/Co-0.1 nanopillars were successfully synthesized by sulfurizing CoMoO4 and subsequent acid etching, which were used as the anode material for lithium ion batteries. The introduction of suitable metal Co into MoS2 nanopillars effectively accelerates electron/ion transport kinetics, leading to high specific capacity and superior rate capability and cycling stability.

In recent years, two-dimensional (2D) black phosphorus (BP) has been widely applied in many fields, such as (opto)electronics, transistors, catalysis and biomedical applications due to its large surface area, tunable direct bandgap, superior charge carrier mobility, and unique in-plane anisotropic structure. To exploit its full potential and push the limits, studies on functional 2D BP nanostructures fabricated by a variety of methods, such as surface functionalization and hybridization, are rapidly expanding for next-generation devices with unprecedented properties. In this review, firstly, the synthetic techniques and fundamental properties of functional 2D BP nanostructures, including surface-modified 2D BP nanostructures and mixed-dimensional 2D BP-based heterostructures, are systematically summarized. Secondly, the recent progress of functional 2D BP nanostructures in the fields of energy storage and conversion, (opto) electronics, catalysis, sensors, nonlinear photonics, and biomedical applications is highlighted. Last but not least, the challenges and future opportunities in these emerging areas are discussed. We hope that this review can provide fundamental guidance on new designs of high-performance functional 2D BP nanostructures to meet the growing demand of next-generation devices.

A transition metal-based nanohybrid has recently been demonstrated as an electrocatalyst which shows great potential in replacing commercial precious metal catalysts in hydrogen evolution reactions. Herein, a tungsten trioxide/nickel disulfide (WO3/Ni3S2) heterojunction is developed. Compared to the corresponding single-component, the as-developed heterojunction electrode exhibits higher electrical/ionic conductivity and catalytic activity and stability due to the specific cooperativity. As expected, the WO3/Ni3S2 electrode shows high hydrogen evolution performance both at low and high current densities. In addition, the as-developed electrode can work stably for a long time both at high and low current densities.

At present, cyclometalated iridium (Ir)(III) complexes are the most promising emitters for OLEDs. Contrary to well-developed Ir(III)-based red and green phosphorescent complexes, the efficient blue emitters are limited and the performances of blue OLEDs are still not satisfactory. Inspired by this, we designed two novel blue Ir(III) complexes employing 2-(2,4-difluoropyridyl)pyridine (dfpypy) and 2,6-difluoro-3-(pyridin-2-yl)benzonitrile (FCN) as the main ligands, respectively, and phenyl(pyridin-2-yl)phosphinate (ppp) as the ancillary ligand. The rational design of the molecular structure makes the two complexes achieve blue emission and possess good electron mobility simultaneously. The devices based on the Ir(III) phosphors exhibited good electroluminescence performances with low turn-on voltages, a peak current efficiency of 24.51 cd A−1, a maximum external quantum efficiency of 12.4%, a peak power efficiency of 21.99 lm W−1 and low efficiency roll-off. These results provide an effective strategy for the future molecular design of blue Ir(III) complexes with good electron transport property for OLEDs.

具有良好单色性的可调谐光纤激光器是密集波分复用传输系统中的关键组件. 传统的调制方法难与全光通信网络兼容. 本文中, 我们利用MXene (Ti2NT x )的强光热效应, 对基于迈克尔逊干涉仪的全光波长调谐光纤激光器进行了研究. 对于全光调制器来说, 信号光的相移, 随控制光功率具有 0.03π mW−1 的线性关系. 获得 25 dB 的调制深度, 有利于提高调制器的灵敏度以实现快速的波长扫描. 另外, 实现的全光波长调谐激光器具有大边模抑制比, 宽波长调谐范围和窄3-dB光谱宽度. 这种新颖的基于Ti2NT x 的全光波长调谐器不仅扩展了全光调制器的应用领域, 而且也为基于 Ti2NT x 的异质结构提供了可扩展的可用性, 以构建高性能的全光纤激光器.

MXene as a novel two-dimensional (2D) material exhibits a lot of advantages in nonlinear optics. However, the common MXene, Ti3C2Tx and Ti2CTx nanosheets, easily suffer from degradation under ambient conditions, greatly limiting their practical applications. Here, we demonstrated one of MXene compounds, V2CTx, which has a strong modulation depth (nearly 50%), can serve as an excellent saturable absorber (SA) in passively mode-locked (PML) fiber lasers. More importantly, 206th harmonic order has been successfully generated in Er-doped mode-locked fiber laser, exhibiting maximum repetition rate of 1.01 GHz and pulse duration of 940 fs, which to the best of our knowledge, is the highest harmonic mode-locked fiber laser from the MXene SA so far. In addition, the high harmonic order mode-locked operation can maintain at least 24 h without any noticeable change, suggesting MXene V2CTx nanosheets have excellent stability in this mode-locked fiber laser. It is anticipated that the present work can pave the way to new design for MXene-based heterostructures for high-performance harmonic mode-locked lasers.

MXene is a promising two-dimensional (2D) material that is widely used in electro-photonic devices due to its unique properties. In this contribution, V2CT x , a novel MXene, was employed as a saturable absorber (SA) for hybrid passively mode-locked fiber lasers. An ultra-stable and self-starting mode-locked laser system with low threshold can be achieved using V2CT x nanosheets and nonlinear polarization evolution (NPE). Signal to noise ratio increased 13 dB compared with using only NPE SA. A 72 fs pulse duration is easily achieved from this hybrid mode-locked fiber laser system. To the best of our knowledge, this is the shortest pulse duration generated from the Yb-doped mode-locked fiber lasers using a hybrid or 2D SAs. This study proves that MXene V2CT x nanosheets can be developed as suitable SAs and served as potential advanced ultrafast photonic devices in the future.

A new type of supramolecular polymeric material was constructed efficiently via orthogonal pillar[5]arene-based host-guest and hydrogen bond interactions. The supramolecular polymeric materials prove to be a good catalyst for the Fenton reaction in water.

Due to their excellent and tailorable optoelectronic performance, low cost, facile fabrication, and compatibility with flexible substrates, solution-processed inorganic and hybrid photo-active materials have attracted extensive interest for next-generation photodetector applications. This review gives a comprehensive compilation of solution-processed photodetectors. The basic structures of the device and important parameters of photodetectors will be firstly summarized. Then the development of various solution processing technologies containing solution synthesis and liquid phase film-forming processes for the preparation of semiconductor films is described. From the materials science point of view, we give a comprehensive overview about the current status of solution processed semiconductor materials including inorganic and hybrid photo-active materials for the application of photodetectors. Moreover, challenges and future trends in the field of solution-processed photodetectors are proposed.

A novel palladium-catalyzed regio- and stereoselective dienylation via a combination of cascade carbopalladation and subsequent desulfitative coupling after the base-induced ring opening of sulfolenes has been described. In this reaction, a range of Z-selective conjugated dienes bearing oxindoles or isoquinolinediones are obtained in moderate yields.

Two-dimensional tin sulfide (SnS), as a black phosphorus-analogue binary semiconductor, has received considerable attention in photonics and optoelectronics. Herein, the third-order nonlinearity susceptibility Im χ3 is enhanced from −(6.88 ± 0.10) × 10−14 esu to −(15.90 ± 0.27) × 10−14 esu by the size-related quantum confinement in layered SnS nanosheets. Due to the energy level alignment, a phonon-bottleneck effect is observed, which leads to a prolonged carrier lifetime. These results provide a platform for actively tuning the linear and nonlinear optics, and pave the way for designing SnS-based tunable and anisotropic optoelectronic devices.

It is widely known that the excellent intrinsic electronic and optoelectronic advantages of bismuthene and tellurene make them attractive for applications in transistors and logic and optoelectronic devices. However, their poor optoelectronic performances, such as photocurrent density and photoresponsivity, under ambient conditions severely hinder their practical application. To satisfy the demand of high-performance optoelectronic devices and topological insulators, bismuth telluride nanoplates (Bi2Te3 NPs) with different sizes, successfully synthesized by a solvothermal approach have been, for the first time, employed to fabricate a working electrode for photoelectrochemical (PEC)-type photodetection. It is demonstrated that the as-prepared Bi2Te3 NP-based photodetectors exhibit remarkably improved photocurrent density, enhanced photoresponsivity, and faster response time and recovery time in the UV-Vis region, compared to bismuthene and tellurene-based photodetectors. Additionally, the PEC stability measurements show that Bi2Te3 NPs have a comparable long-term stability for on/off switching behaviour for the bismuthene and tellurene-based photodetectors. Therefore, it is anticipated that the present work can provide fundamental acknowledgement of the optoelectronic performance of a PEC-type Bi2Te3 NP-based photodetector, shedding light on new designs of high-performance topological insulator-based optoelectronic devices.

Monitoring harmful and toxic chemicals, gases, microorganisms, and radiation has been a challenge to the scientific community for the betterment of human health and environment. Two-dimensional (2D)-material-based sensors are highly efficient and compatible with modern fabrication technology, which yield data that can be proficiently used for health and environmental monitoring. Graphene and its oxides, black phosphorus (BP), transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), metal oxides, and other 2D nanomaterials have demonstrated properties that have been alluring for the manufacture of highly sensitive sensors due to their unique material properties arising from their inherent structures. This review summarizes the properties of 2D nanomaterials that can provide a platform to develop high-performance sensors. In this review, we have also discussed the advances made in the field of infrared photodetectors and electrochemical sensors and how the structural properties of 2D nanomaterials affect sensitivity and performance. Further, this review highlights 2D-nanomaterial-based electrochemical sensors that can be used to check for contaminations from heavy metals, organic/inorganic compounds, poisonous gases, pesticides, bacteria, antibiotics, etc., in water or air, which are severe risks to human wellbeing as well as the environment. Moreover, the limitations, future prospects, and challenges for the development of sensors based on 2D materials are also discussed for future advancements.

Recently, chain-like materials have attracted significant attention due to their unique structure and outstanding electro-optical properties. However, the photocarrier dynamics and pathways in these materials that determine the electro-optical performances of the prepared devices have barely been touched. Herein, selenium quantum dots (Se QDs), one typical chain-like material, were prepared via a facile liquid phase exfoliation approach. The photocarrier dynamics in selenium quantum dots were systematically investigated by ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy in the ultraviolet-visible regime. Four photocarrier decay pathways with different lifetimes were firstly detected, and they assist in the elucidation and reconstruction of the energy schematic diagram of Se QDs. Owing to the broadband photo-response and fast recovery time of Se QDs, a photoelectrochemical (PEC)-type photodetector was proposed for the first time to our knowledge, demonstrating its excellent photodetection properties. Considering the feasible fabrication method and clear photocarrier pathways, the excellent photocurrent density and stability of this photodetector undoubtedly guarantee that selenium is a promising candidate for advanced photonic devices.

Genome-wide noninvasive prenatal testing identifies several rare autosomal trisomies in the general obstetrical population, but its use is questioned by its low positive predictive value. Furthermore, the origin of rare autosomal trisomies and the clinical effect of reporting them has not been sufficiently investigated. In addition, professional societies express their need for data assessing the clinical use of genome-wide noninvasive prenatal testing for rare autosomal trisomies for years.This study aimed to investigate the origin of rare autosomal trisomies and the clinical effect of disclosing rare autosomal trisomies in clinical settings.Women who received noninvasive prenatal testing between March 2021 and March 2022 were prospectively enrolled. Clinical follow-up and cytogenetic and molecular investigations were performed. Posthoc analysis was performed to investigate the association between placental mosaicism and clinical outcomes.Overall, 154 rare autosomal trisomies were identified in 89,242 pregnancies (0.17%) through noninvasive prenatal testing. In the 120 cases in which cytogenetic and molecular investigations were carried out, the rare autosomal trisomies were found to originate from true fetal mosaicism (n=5), uniparental disomy (n=5), maternal mosaic trisomy (n=3), maternal malignancy (n=1), and confined placental mosaicism (n=106). Clinical follow-up showed that 40% of all rare autosomal trisomy cases had adverse perinatal outcomes. In women with false-positive noninvasive prenatal testing results originating from confined placental mosaicism, the frequency of adverse perinatal outcomes was 26%. More importantly, the placental mosaicism ratio revealed by noninvasive prenatal testing was significantly higher in women who experienced adverse perinatal outcomes than those who did not (0.688 vs 0.332; P.001).Women with noninvasive prenatal testing results indicative of rare autosomal trisomies are at risk of adverse perinatal outcomes, and that risk can be stratified using chromosomes and the mosaicism ratio revealed by noninvasive prenatal testing. Our data are valuable for obstetrical caregivers advising a patient with a noninvasive prenatal testing result indicative of a rare autosomal trisomy and a false-positive diagnosis and for managing risks during pregnancy.

Recently, nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (NGQDs), as a new type of quantum semiconductor and photoelectrochemical material, are promising candidates in photoelectric sensing, water splitting, and biological imaging and have various potential application prospects. In this work, NGQDs were prepared by a simple calcination method, and then a photoelectrochemical sensing platform based on the NGQDs electrode with superior photoelectrochemical activity was designed and fabricated for the detection of dopamine (DA). Benefitting from the quantum effect and size effect, NGQDs displayed an enhanced photocurrent effective within ultra-low detection limit (0.03 μm), wide detection range (0.03–450 and 450–9680 μm), and high sensitivity in detecting DA with the assistance of ultraviolet light irradiation. The NGQDs electrode also showed continuous and stable photocurrent densities after long-term experiment, indicating the excellent durability of NGQDs for DA detection.

NiFe layered double hydroxides (LDHs) usually exhibit high water-dissociation ability in the alkaline media and also provide an ideal substrate for anchoring noble metals, such as platinum (Pt), due to the 2D microstructure. Appropriate regulation of the interaction between Pt and substrate could enhance the intrinsic activity of composite catalysts toward the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in the alkaline media. Herein, we electrodeposit Pt nanoparticles on amorphous NiFe LDH (Pt/NiFe-ED) or crystalline NiFe LDH (Pt/NiFe-HD) to regulate the interaction between Pt and NiFe LDH. Experimental results reveal that Pt nanoparticles on NiFe-ED are smaller than those on NiFe-HD and possess a narrower size distribution. Thus, Pt/NiFe-ED (300 μM) exhibits a much lower overpotential of 81 mV at 100 mA cm-2 than Pt/NiFe-HD. In contrast, Pt/NiFe-HD exhibits a higher intrinsic activity than Pt/NiFe-ED, which could be caused by the easily elongated Pt-O bond. These findings provide new opportunities to understand the relationship between activity and crystallinity of substrates in the composite electrocatalyst.

To explore the value of chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) for the diagnosis of fetuses with high risk signaled by non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT).From June 2017 to August 2019, 628 pregnant women with high risk signaled by NIPT underwent invasive prenatal diagnosis. Amniotic fluid or cord blood samples were subjected to chromosomal karyotyping analysis or CMA. Pregnancy outcome and postnatal conditions of the fetuses were followed up.The positive predictive value for trisomy 21, trisomy 18, trisomy 13, sex chromosome aneuploidy, other rare trisomies and copy number variants (CNVs) among the 628 women were 86.4% (127/147), 41.7% (30/72), 12.9% (4/31), 43.7% (101/231), 16.5% (14/85) and 52.2% (35/67), respectively. In 218 samples with normal karyotype, 5.5% (12/218) of additional pathogenic CNVs and 2.3% (5/218) of loss of heterozygosity were detected by CMA.CMA combined with karyotyping analysis can be used as first-tier test for prenatal diagnosis for women with high-risk signaled by NIPT.

A palladium-catalyzed domino Heck cyclization/Hiyama coupling reaction by the trapping of the σ-alkylpalladium intermediate with arylsilanes is described. A wide range of aryl-tethered alkenes and arylsilanes are all compatible with the reaction conditions. This approach shows good yields and excellent functional group tolerance, presenting a more practical and sustainable alternative to the conventional domino Heck cyclization/Suzuki coupling reaction.

The effective non-precious metal catalysts toward the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are highly desirable for electrochemical water splitting. Herein, we prepare a novel glass-ceramic (Ni1.5 Sn@triMPO4 ) by embedding crystalline Ni1.5 Sn nanoparticles into amorphous trimetallic phosphate (triMPO4 ) matrix. This unique crystalline-amorphous nanostructure synergistically accelerates the surface reconstruction to active Ni(Fe)OOH, due to the low vacancy formation energy of Sn in glass-ceramic and high adsorption energy of PO43- at the VO sites. Compared to the control samples, this dual-phase glass-ceramic exhibits a remarkably lowered overpotential and boosted OER kinetics after surface reconstruction, rivaling most of state-of-the-art electrocatalysts. The residual PO43- and intrinsic VO sites induce redistribution of electron states, thus optimizing the adsorption of OH* and OOH* intermediates on metal oxyhydroxides and promoting the OER activity.

Porous Mn-based mullite SmMn2O5 was synthesized by the in-situ dismutation of solid state Mn3+ in bulk SmMnO3 perovskite to catalytic oxidation of benzene and chrolobenznen. The physicochemical property of catalyst was acquired by XRD, SEM, N2 adsorption–desorption, XPS, O2-TPD and H2-TPR. Compared with that of bulk SmMnO3 and bulk SmMn2O5, the porous SmMn2O5 mullite (SmMn2O5-ID) displayed higher molar ratios of Mn4+/Mn3+ and Olatt/Oads, and better active oxygen desorption capacity, reducibility and larger specific surface, which promoted the preferable low-temperature catalytic oxidation of VOC. The increase in the content of Mn4+ on the surface of the Sm-Mn mullite reduced the surface defects and increased the proportion of its surface lattice oxygen, thereby promoting the attack of VOC molecules by more lattice oxygen. Combined with the analysis of reactant intermediate for benzene oxidation by in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy, the catalytic mechanism of the catalyst was also explored. Moreover, SmMn2O5-ID also showed the excellent stability and the superior removal of mixed VOCs with different concentration ratios. This finding provides an efficient and practical method for exploiting highly active Mn-based mullite with a high efficiency and stability for the purification of air pollution.

To carry out prenatal diagnosis on a fetus with abnormal findings by ultrasonography and non-invasive prenatal testing.The fetus and both parents were subjected to chromosomal karyotyping and single nucleotide polymorphism array (SNP-array) analysis.The karyotypes of both parents were normal. The fetus carried a 46,N,der(X;16)(q28;q22) unbalanced translocation. SNP-array analysis confirmed that the derived chromosomal fragment of the fetus has originated from 16q.
