Abstract This study investigates the expressions of ADAM9, CDCP1 and t-PA in OSCC and their impacts on patient prognosis. Previous research has demonstrated the overexpression of ADAM9 and activation of plasminogen activator in OSCC, but CDCP1's role remains unexplored. While these biomolecules are known to contribute to lung cancer metastasis, their concurrent expressions in OSCC have not been thoroughly examined. Our aim is to assess the expressions of ADAM9, CDCP1, and t-PA in OSCC specimens, compare them with normal oral tissues, and explore their correlation with OSCC's clinicopathological features and patient survival outcomes.

Background: Ventilation limitation has a significant adverse effects on cardiovascular function and tissue oxygenation during exercise in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). High flow nasal cannula (HFNC) improve ventilation by washing out the anatomical dead space and providing oxygen at constant concentration. This study aimed to examine the effects of HFNC on the exercise performance and hemodynamic status in COPD patients. Methods: Fifteen patients with COPD performed two constant load exercise tests (CLET) at the 70% of maximum workload achieved at a previous incremental exercise test on arm ergometer. The CLET were performed with HFNC and with nasal cannula (NC) in random order. The hemodynamics parameters of subjects during exercises were measured by a bioelectrical impedance device. The tissue oxygenation status (oxygenated hemoglobin, deoxygenated hemoglobin (hHb), total hemoglobin) was measured by a near infrared spectrophotometer. Results: The exercise duration was longer for HFNC test than NC test (962.9 ± 281.7 s, vs 823.9 ± 184.9 s, p < 0.05). At the end of CLET, the PetCO2 was lower for HFNC than NC (29.3 ± 5.1 mmHg vs 32.1 ± 5.5 mmHg, p 0.05), stroke volume (NC:73.5 ± 21.0 vs HFNC 67.5 ± 16.3 ml, p > 0.05). PurposeThere is evidence that the Crystallin Alpha B (CRYAB) gene is involved in the regulation of the tumor microenvironment and influences tumor prognosis in some cancers. However, the role of CRYAB gene in prognosis and immunology in pan-cancer is still unclear.MethodsIn this study, we analyzed the transcriptional profiles and survival data of cancer patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. CRYAB gene and its relationships with pan-cancer were analyzed using R packages, TIMER2.0, GEPIA2, Sangerbox, UALCAN, cBioPortal, ESTIMATE algorithm, and STRING. Besides, real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was utilized to detect CRYAB expression in KIRC and a human KIRC cell line (Caki-1).ResultsWe found that CRYAB expression was different in tumors and adjacent tumors in human cancers, affecting patients’ prognosis in 15 cancer types. Additionally, CRYAB expression significantly correlated with tumor microenvironment (TME), immune checkpoints (ICP), tumor mutational burden (TMB), and microsatellite instability (MSI) in human cancers. Besides, CRYAB expression was positively associated with the immune infiltration of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and endothelial cells in most human cancers. Based on enrichment analysis, the most prevalent CRYAB gene mechanism in malignant tumors may be through anti-apoptotic activity. Moreover, some FDA-approved drugs were found to be associated with CRYAB and might be potential cancer therapeutic candidates.ConclusionsCRYAB is a crucial component of the TME and influences immune cell infiltration, making it a promising biomarker to assess immune infiltration and prognosis in many malignancies.

The recent expansion of shellfish mariculture could significantly impact the ocean carbon cycle and its associated biogeochemical processes. To understand the source and fate of particulate organic carbon (POC), a summer cruise was conducted from September 8 to 10, 2022, at a mussel farm on Gouqi Island and its adjacent areas located in the East China Sea. Parameters included in situ temperature and salinity, contents of dissolved oxygen (DO), suspended particulate matter (SPM), POC, and chlorophyll a (Chl a), as well as the stable carbon isotopic composition (δ13C) of organic matter in particle and sediment samples, which were analyzed to facilitate a comparative assessment of the areas inside and outside the mussel farm. The POM was much fresher (POC/Chl a < 150) inside the farm with little impact from sediment resuspension (lower SPM content, 11.6 ± 6.6 mg/L), while a significant influence of sediment resuspension was found outside the farm (SPM > 20 mg/L, POC/Chl a > 150). A two end-member mixing model showed that 82.0 ± 6.0% of POC originated from marine algae within the farm, much higher than that outside the farming area (66.1 ± 7.8%). Moreover, elevated DO saturation but relatively low Chl a concentration within the farm suggested continuous algae consumption following potential high productivity. The averaged δ13C values were similar among suspended POC, sinking POC, and sedimentary organic carbon within the farm, implying the fast export and burial of POC. This is likely due to the filter-feeding habits of mussels, who ingest fresh POC and then pack it as fecal pellets that rapidly settle into the sediment. This study sheds light on the distribution and sources of POM inside and outside the mussel farm on Gouqi Island, enhancing our understanding of the marine carbon cycle on shellfish farms and providing insights into the underlying biogeochemical processes. ABSTRACT Waterlogging causes a significant reduction in soil oxygen levels, which in turn negatively affects soil nutrient use efficiency and crop yields. Rhizosphere microbes can help plants to better use nutrients and thus better adapt to this stress, while it is not clear how the plant-associated microbes respond to waterlogging stress. There are also few reports on whether this response is influenced by different sequencing methods and by different soils. In this study, using partial 16S rRNA sequencing targeting the V4 region and two full-length 16S rRNA sequencing approaches targeting the V1 to V9 regions, the effects of waterlogging on soybean rhizosphere bacterial structure in two types of soil were examined. Our results showed that, compared with the partial 16S sequencing, full-length sequencing, both LoopSeq and Pacific Bioscience (PacBio) 16S sequencing, had a higher resolution. On both types of soil, all the sequencing methods showed that waterlogging significantly affected the bacterial community structure of the soybean rhizosphere and increased the relative abundance of Geobacter. Furthermore, modular analysis of the cooccurrence network showed that waterlogging increased the relative abundance of some microorganisms related to nitrogen cycling when using V4 sequencing and increased the microorganisms related to phosphorus cycling when using LoopSeq and PacBio 16S sequencing methods. Core microorganism analysis further revealed that the enriched members of different species might play a central role in maintaining the stability of bacterial community structure and ecological functions. Together, our study explored the role of microorganisms enriched at the rhizosphere under waterlogging in assisting soybeans to resist stress. Furthermore, compared to partial and PacBio 16S sequencing, LoopSeq offers improved accuracy and reduced sequencing prices, respectively, and enables accurate species-level and strain identification from complex environmental microbiome samples. IMPORTANCE Soybeans are important oil-bearing crops, and waterlogging has caused substantial decreases in soybean production all over the world. The microbes associated with the host have shown the ability to promote plant growth, nutrient absorption, and abiotic resistance. High-throughput sequencing of partial 16S rRNA is the most commonly used method to analyze the microbial community. However, partial sequencing cannot provide correct classification information below the genus level, which greatly limits our research on microbial ecology. In this study, the effects of waterlogging on soybean rhizosphere microbial structure in two soil types were explored using partial 16S rRNA and full-length 16S gene sequencing by LoopSeq and Pacific Bioscience (PacBio). The results showed that full-length sequencing had higher classification resolution than partial sequencing. Three sequencing methods all indicated that rhizosphere bacterial community structure was significantly impacted by waterlogging, and the relative abundance of Geobacter was increased in the rhizosphere in both soil types after suffering waterlogging. Moreover, the core microorganisms obtained by different sequencing methods all contain species related to nitrogen cycling. Together, our study not only explored the role of microorganisms enriched at the rhizosphere level under waterlogging in assisting soybean to resist stress but also showed that LoopSeq sequencing is a less expensive and more convenient method for full-length sequencing by comparing different sequencing methods.

With the development of information and communication technology, the opportunities for national citizens to freely participate in the discussion of political issues have been unprecedentedly expanded. Established in citizens' media literacy and national security awareness, this research explores the influence of these factors on media trust (domestic or overseas) and political information access among Chinese higher education groups (CHEG). This paper used the partial least square and structural equation method to discuss the factors that affect the formation of respondents' political attitudes by taking the recent Russia-Ukraine conflict as an example. The result shows that for CHEG, media literacy plays a positive role in their political information contact but does not affect their trust and choice of domestic and foreign media. Meanwhile, national security awareness also plays a positive role in their political information contact and the trust of domestic media. From the perspective of respondents' political attitudes, the more national security awareness and media literacy they have, the more they support Russia. On the contrary, the reduced awareness of national security makes them more willing to choose foreign media and therefore more supportive of Ukraine. In general, this paper reveals the important influence of national security awareness on the formation of political attitudes and illustrates the critical role of national ideological propaganda.

Deep learning (DL)-based change detection (CD) methods for high-resolution (HR) remote sensing images can still be improved by effective acquisition of multi-scale feature and accurate detection of the edge of change regions. We propose a new end-to-end CD network, named the Multi-Scale Residual Siamese Network fusing Integrated Residual Attention (IRA-MRSNet), which adopts an encoder-decoder structure, introduces the Multi-Res block to extract multi-scale features and deep semantic information, and uses the Attention Gates module before the skip connection to highlight the change region features. Considering that the residual connection and attention module benefits the edge feature extraction, we proposed an IRA unit, consisting of the Res2net+ module, the Split and Concat (SPC) module, and the Channel Attention Module (CAM), which can make the CD results better through finer-grained multi-scale feature extraction and adaptive feature refinement of the feature map channel dimension. The experimental results show that the F1 and OA values of our network model outperform other state-of-the-art (SOTA) CD methods on the Seasonal Change Detection Dataset (CDD) and the Sun Yat-Sen University Change Detection Dataset (SYSU-CD), and the number of parameters and the calculated amount are reduced significantly.
