Objective: To evaluate the different non-surgical predominant pathologies in the emergency department of the Amissa Bongo regional hospital in Franceville, Haut-Ogooué. Materials and Methods: Using consultation registers and some medical records, we retrospectively studied the epidemiological and clinical profile of patients who consulted for a medical and non-surgical or gynaeco-obstetrical emergency, from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018. Results: During this period, 19597 patients consulted for a medical emergency at the Amissa Bongo regional hospital in Franceville in Haut-Ogooué (Gabon). This high score indicated that the majority of patients came from the different districts of the commune of Franceville and other departments of the province. Three periods of high attendance were distinguished: the long dry season (37.3%), the short rainy season (28.4%) and the long rainy season (24%), compared to the short dry season (10.3%). Infectious diseases were recurrent with 63.16%, and with 67% of cases, malaria (severe and simple) was more frequent. Non-infectious emergencies were also noted, such as diseases of the respiratory system (1791 cases = 24.81%), diseases of the digestive system (1028 cases = 14.24%), skin diseases (809 cases = 24.81%), cardiovascular diseases (800 cases = 11.21%), blood diseases (686 cases = 9. 5%), diseases of the urogenital system (588 cases = 8.14%), diseases of the locomotor system (510 cases = 7.06%), ENT diseases (451 cases = 6.24%), diseases of the glands and metabolism (296 cases = 4.10%), diseases of the nervous system and the senses (260 cases = 3.60%) Conclusion: Compared to non-infectious diseases, infectious and parasitic diseases are recurrent at CHRAB. They therefore require special attention from the health authorities of this hospital, and even of Gabon.

Typhoid fever is an infectious disease that is fatal if left untreated. The most recent global data show more than 20 million cases annually, with more than 200,000 deaths. In Gabon, a study has shown that young adults are increasingly affected. Nevertheless, national data on this scourge are rare. The aim is to determine the prevalence of typhoid fever at the Sino-Gabonese Friendship Hospital in Franceville. The data are confirmed cases of typhoid fever at the Sino-Gabonese Friendship Hospital in Franceville, entered into a database of the health information management system of the South-East Franceville Gabon Regional Health Directorate between January 2018 and December 2020. A trend analysis was conducted over time to establish correlations between the prevalence of typhoid fever and factors such as age, gender and time of year. To statistically analyze these data, measure incidence rates, and establish relationships between these values and their significance, we used R version 3.6.1 software. 2175 people suffered from typhoid fever during the three years of the study. Of these, 960 (44.07%) were men and 1215 (55.93%) were women. A 95% confidence interval was estimated and a value p≤0.05 was considered statistically significant. The age group 15-49 years was the most affected. Although cases occurred throughout the year, there were increasing cases of typhoid from 2018 to 2020 and a high prevalence during quarters 1 and 4. The prevalence over the years was 454 cases or 20.87% in 2018, 750 cases or 34.48% in 2019, and 971 cases or 44.65% in 2020. In Gabon, particularly in Franceville, typhoid fever is a real public health problem. To protect themselves against this disease and avoid possible epidemics, the health authorities and decision-makers must educate the population about the disease.

The goal of this study was to evaluate the impact of socio-clinical factors on adherence to antiretroviral treatment in people living with HIV/AIDS in Koula-Moutou (a rural area of Gabon). Two adherence assessment methods based on patient declaration and compliance with pharmacy visits were used to determine qualitative and quantitative aspects of adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART). The quantitative (82.2%) and qualitative (79.5%) adherences to ART declared by patients were higher than those obtained through pharmacy visit assessment methods (15.8% and 45.2%, respectively). Moreover, the declarative and pharmacy visit compliance methods showed fair agreement (quantitative Kappa = 0.317; qualitative Kappa = 0.311). A better quantitative or qualitative declarative adherence was associated with a lower level of education (P = 0.05 and P = 0.025 respectively). This study reported for the first time the factors influencing adherence to ART in a rural area of East Gabon. We recommend further investigations in a large cohort to better assess the impact of socio-clinical factors on ART adherence in a vulnerable group of patients.Keywords: antiretroviral treatment, Central Africa, declarative and pharmacy-visit methods, PLHIV, quantitative and qualitative compliance

The thermal resistance of semiconductor thin films is predicted using lattice dynamics (LD) calculations and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. We consider Si and Gefilms with thicknesses, LF, between 0.2 and 30 nm that are confined between larger extents of the other species (i.e., Ge/Si/Ge and Si/Ge/Si structures). The LD predictions are made in the classical limit for comparison to the classical MD simulations, which are performed at a temperature of 500 K. For structures with LF2 nm, the MD-predicted thermal resistances are independent of the film thickness for the Ge/Si/Ge structures and increase with increasing film thickness for the Si/Ge/Si structures. We attribute these results to phonontransport that is ballistic in the Ge/Si/Ge structures and more diffusive in the Si/Ge/Si structures based on comparisons to the LD predictions, which assume ballisticphonontransport. We find that this difference between the structures cannot be predicted by comparing the mode-averaged phonon mean free path to the film thickness. It can be predicted, however, by considering the frequency dependence of the phonon mean free paths.
