Since Parker Solar Probe's (Parker's) first perihelion pass at the Sun, large amplitude Alfv\'en waves grouped in patches have been observed near the Sun throughout the mission. Several formation processes for these magnetic switchback patches have been suggested with no definitive consensus. To provide insight to their formation, we examine the heavy ion properties of several adjacent magnetic switchback patches around Parker's 11th perihelion pass capitalizing on a spacecraft lineup with Solar Orbiter where each samples the same solar wind streams over a large range of longitudes. Heavy ion properties (Fe/O, C$^{6+}$/C$^{5+}$, O$^{7+}$/O$^{6+}$) related to the wind's coronal origin, measured with Solar Orbiter can be linked to switchback patch structures identified near the Sun with Parker. We find that switchback patches do not contain distinctive ion and elemental compositional signatures different than the surrounding non-switchback solar wind. Both the patches and ambient wind exhibit a range of fast and slow wind qualities, indicating coronal sources with open and closed field lines in close proximity. These observations and modeling indicate switchback patches form in coronal hole boundary wind and with a range of source region magnetic and thermal properties. Carnivores interact with herbivores to indirectly impact plant populations, creating trophic cascades within plant-herbivore-carnivore systems. We developed and analyzed a food chain model to gain a mechanistic understanding of the critical roles carnivores play in ecosystems where plants face intense herbivory. Our model incorporates key factors such as seed production rates, seed germination probabilities, local plant interactions, herbivory rates, and carnivore predation rates. In the absence of carnivores, herbivores significantly reduce plant densities, often driving plants to extinction under high herbivory rates. However, the presence of carnivores suppresses herbivore populations, allowing plants to recover from herbivore pressure. We found that plant densities increase with carnivore predation rates, highlighting top-down effects and underscoring the importance of conserving carnivores in ecosystems where plants are at high risk of extinction from herbivory. Our results also show that carnivore density increases with seed-production rates, while herbivore density remains constant, indicating that plants benefit carnivores more than herbivores. This increase in carnivore density driven by high seed-production rates reflects bottom-up effects in the system. Overall, our study demonstrates that plants, herbivores, and carnivores can coexist even under intense predation stress. It suggests that carnivores play a crucial role in regulating plant and herbivore populations, with significant potential for maintaining biodiversity within ecosystems.

Steady-state quantum thermal machines are typically characterized by a continuous flow of heat between different reservoirs. However, at the level of discrete stochastic realizations, heat flow is unraveled as a series of abrupt quantum jumps, each representing an exchange of finite quanta with the environment. In this work, we present a framework that resolves the dynamics of quantum thermal machines into cycles that are classified as engine-like, cooling-like, or idle. We explore the statistics of each cycle type and its duration, enabling us to determine both the fraction of cycles useful for thermodynamic tasks and the average waiting time between cycles of the same type. Tests of quantum properties of fundamental particles in high energy colliders are starting to appear. However, such experiments may suffer from the locality loophole. We argue for criteria that take into account the space-like separation between measurements for the case of spin correlations in top quark pairs produced at the LHC. We derive bounds considering three different definitions of what constitutes the quantum measurement - the decay of top quarks, the decay of W bosons, and the stable decay products contacting a macroscopic device.

The Kinetic Uncertainty Relation (KUR) bounds the signal-to-noise ratio of stochastic currents in terms of the number of transitions per unit time, known as the dynamical activity. This bound was derived in a classical context, and can be violated in the quantum regime due to coherent effects. However, the precise connection between KUR violations and quantum coherence has so far remained elusive, despite significant investigation. In this work, we solve this problem by deriving a modified bound that exactly pinpoints how, and when, coherence might lead to KUR violations. Our bound is sensitive to the specific kind of unraveling of the quantum master equation. It therefore allows one to compare quantum jumps and quantum diffusion, and understand, in each case, how quantum coherence affects fluctuations. We illustrate our result on a double quantum dot, where the electron current is monitored either by electron jump detection or with continuous diffusive charge measurement.

In the present work, with the intent of exploring the out-of-equilibrium polymerization of active patchy particles in linear chains, we study a suspension of active bivalent Brownian particles (ABBPs). At all studied temperatures and densities, ABBPs self-assemble in aggregating chains, as opposed to the uniformly space-distributed chains observed in the corresponding passive systems. The main effect of activity, other than inducing chain aggregation, is to reduce the chain length and favor alignment of the propulsion vectors in the bonding process. At low activities, attraction dominates over activity in the bonding process, leading self-assembly to occur randomly regardless of the particle orientations.Interestingly, we find that at the lowest temperature, as density increases, chains aggregate forming a novel state: MISP, i.e., Motility-Induced Spirals, where spirals are characterised by a finite angular velocity. On the contrary, at the highest temperature, density and activity, chains aggregate forming a different novel state (a spinning crystalline cluster) characterized by a compact and hexagonal ordered structure, both translating and rotating. The rotation arises from an effective torque generated by the presence of competing domains where particles self-propel in the same direction.

Time estimation is a fundamental task that underpins precision measurement, global navigation systems, financial markets, and the organisation of everyday life. Many biological processes also depend on time estimation by nanoscale clocks, whose performance can be significantly impacted by random fluctuations. In this work, we formulate the problem of optimal time estimation for Markovian stochastic processes, and present its general solution in the asymptotic (long-time) limit. Specifically, we obtain a tight upper bound on the precision of any time estimate constructed from sustained observations of a classical, Markovian jump process. This bound is controlled by the mean residual time, i.e. the expected wait before the first jump is observed. As a consequence, we obtain a universal bound on the signal-to-noise ratio of arbitrary currents and counting observables in the steady state. This bound is similar in spirit to the kinetic uncertainty relation but provably tighter, and we explicitly construct the counting observables that saturate it. Our results establish ultimate precision limits for an important class of observables in non-equilibrium systems, and demonstrate that the mean residual time, not the dynamical activity, is the measure of freneticity that tightly constrains fluctuations far from equilibrium., Comment: 13+16 pages, 9 figures. As interest in implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in medical systems grows, discussion continues on how to evaluate the fairness of these systems, or the disparities they may perpetuate. Socioeconomic status (SES) is commonly included in machine learning models to control for health inequities, with the underlying assumption that increased SES is associated with better health. In this work, we considered a large cohort of patients from the Mount Sinai Health System in New York City to investigate the effect of patient SES, race, and sex on schizophrenia (SCZ) diagnosis rates via a logistic regression model. Within an intersectional framework, patient SES, race, and sex were found to have significant interactions. Our findings showed that increased SES is associated with a higher probability of obtaining a SCZ diagnosis in Black Americans ($\beta=4.1\times10^{-8}$, $SE=4.5\times10^{-9}$, $p < 0.001$). Whereas high SES acts as a protective factor for SCZ diagnosis in White Americans ($\beta=-4.1\times10^{-8}$, $SE=6.7\times10^{-9}$, $p < 0.001$). Further investigation is needed to reliably explain and quantify health disparities. In psychiatry, negative patient descriptions and stigmatizing language can contribute to healthcare disparities in two ways: (1) read by patients they can harm their trust and engagement with the medical center; (2) read by future providers they may negatively influence the future perspective of a patient. By leveraging large language models, this work aims to identify the sentiment expressed in psychiatric clinical notes based on the reader's point of view. Extracting sentences from the Mount Sinai Health System's large and diverse clinical notes, we used prompts and in-context learning to adapt three large language models (GPT-3.5, Llama 2, Mistral) to classify the sentiment conveyed by the sentences according to the provider or non-provider point of view. We investigate a quantum thermometry scheme based collision model with Gaussian systems. A key open question of these schemes concerns the scaling of the Quantum Fisher Information (QFI) with the number of ancillae. In qubit-based implementations this question is difficult to assess, due to the exponentially growing size of the Hilbert space. Here we focus on Gaussian collision models, which allow for the scaling of the QFI to be evaluated for arbitrarily large sizes. This numerical flexibility enables us to explore the thermometric properties of the model for a wide range of configurations. Despite the infinite Markov order of the stochastic process of the model, we provide a simple phenomenological analysis for the behavior of the QFI, estimating the asymptotic Fisher information density and how the transient effects of correlations for an increasing number of ancillae depend on the physical parameters of the model., Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures. We study the integral Chow ring of the stack $\mathcal{H}_{g,n}$ parametrizing $n$-pointed smooth hyperelliptic curves of genus $g$. We compute the integral Chow ring of $\mathcal{H}_{g,n}$ for $n=1,2$ completely, while for $3\leq n\leq2g+2$ we compute it up to the additive order of a single class in degree 2. We obtain partial results also for $n=2g+3$. In particular, taking $g=2$ and recalling that $\mathcal{H}_{2,n}=\mathcal{M}_{2,n}$, our results hold for $\mathrm{CH}^*(\mathcal{M}_{2,n})$ for $1\leq n\leq7$., Comment: 31 pages

A double quantum dot coupled to an optical cavity is a prototypical example of a non-trivial open quantum system. Recent experimental and theoretical studies show that this system is a candidate for single-photon detection in the microwave domain. This motivates studies that go beyond just the average current, and also take into account the full counting statistics of photon and electron detections. With this in mind, here we provide a detailed analysis of the waiting time statistics of this system within the quantum jump unravelling, which allows us to extract analytical expressions for the success and failure probabilities, as well as for the inter detection times. Furthermore, by comparing single and multi-photon scenarios, we infer a hierarchy of occurrence probabilities for the different events, highlighting the role of photon interference events in the detection probabilities. We introduce a numerical method to sample the distributions of charge, heat, and entropy production in open quantum systems coupled strongly to macroscopic reservoirs, with both temporal and energy resolution and beyond the linear-response regime. Our method exploits the mesoscopic-leads formulation, where macroscopic reservoirs are modeled by a finite collection of modes that are continuously damped toward thermal equilibrium by an appropriate Gorini-Kossakowski-Sudarshan-Lindblad master equation. Focussing on non-interacting fermionic systems, we access the time-resolved full counting statistics through a trajectory unraveling of the master equation. We show that the integral fluctuation theorems for the total entropy production, as well as the martingale and uncertainty entropy production, hold. Furthermore, we investigate the fluctuations of the dissipated heat in finite-time information erasure. Quantum scattering is used ubiquitously in both experimental and theoretical physics across a wide range of disciplines, from high-energy physics to mesoscopic physics. In this work, we uncover universal relations for the energy fluctuations of a quantum system scattering inelastically with a particle at arbitrary kinetic energies. In particular, we prove a fluctuation relation describing an asymmetry between energy absorbing and releasing processes which relies on the non-unital nature of the underlying quantum map. This allows us to derive a bound on the average energy exchanged. We find that energy releasing processes are dominant when the kinetic energy of the particle is comparable to the system energies, but are forbidden at very high kinetic energies where well known fluctuation relations are recovered. Collision models describe the sequential interactions of a system with independent ancillas. Motivated by recent advances in neutral atom arrays, in this Letter we investigate a model where the ancillas are governed by a classical controller that allows them to queue up while they wait for their turn to interact with the system. The ancillas can undergo individual open dynamics while they wait, which may cause them to decohere. The system, which plays the role of the server in the queue, can also undergo its own open dynamics whenever it is idle. We first show that this framework generalizes existing approaches for quantum collision models, recovering the deterministic and stochastic formulations in the appropriate limits. Next, we show how the classical queueing dynamics introduces non-trivial effects in the quantum collisions, that can lead to different phases in the system-ancilla response. Background: Social support (SS) and social isolation (SI) are social determinants of health (SDOH) associated with psychiatric outcomes. In electronic health records (EHRs), individual-level SS/SI is typically documented as narrative clinical notes rather than structured coded data. Natural language processing (NLP) algorithms can automate the otherwise labor-intensive process of data extraction. Data and Methods: Psychiatric encounter notes from Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS, n=300) and Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM, n=225) were annotated and established a gold standard corpus. A rule-based system (RBS) involving lexicons and a large language model (LLM) using FLAN-T5-XL were developed to identify mentions of SS and SI and their subcategories (e.g., social network, instrumental support, and loneliness). Results: For extracting SS/SI, the RBS obtained higher macro-averaged f-scores than the LLM at both MSHS (0.89 vs. 0.65) and WCM (0.85 vs. 0.82). For extracting subcategories, the RBS also outperformed the LLM at both MSHS (0.90 vs. 0.62) and WCM (0.82 vs. 0.81). Discussion and Conclusion: Unexpectedly, the RBS outperformed the LLMs across all metrics. Intensive review demonstrates that this finding is due to the divergent approach taken by the RBS and LLM. The RBS were designed and refined to follow the same specific rules as the gold standard annotations. Conversely, the LLM were more inclusive with categorization and conformed to common English-language understanding. Version 11 of the CHIANTI database and software package is presented. Advanced ionization equilibrium models have been added for low charge states of seven elements (C, N, O, Ne, Mg, Si and S), and represent a significant improvement especially when modelling the solar transition region. The models include the effects of higher electron density and charge transfer on ionization and recombination rates. As an illustration of the difference these models make, a synthetic spectrum is calculated for an electron pressure of 7$\times 10^{15}$ cm$^{-3}$ K and compared with an active region observation from HRTS. Increases are seen of factors of two to five in the predicted radiances of the strongest lines in the UV from Si IV, C IV, and N V, compared to the previous modelling using the coronal approximation. Much better agreement (within 20\%) with the observation is found for the majority of the lines. The new atomic models better equip both those who are studying the transition region and those who are interpreting emission from higher density astrophysical and laboratory plasma. The spectroscopic observations presented here were acquired during the 2017 August 21 total solar eclipse with a three-channel partially multiplexed imaging spectrometer (3PAMIS) operating at extremely high orders ($>$ 50). The 4 $R_\odot$ extent of the slit in the North-South direction scanned the corona starting from the central meridian out to approximately 1.0 $R_\odot$ off the east limb throughout totality. The line widths and Doppler shifts of the Fe X (637.4 nm) and Fe XIV (530.3 nm) emission lines, characteristic of $1.1 \times 10^6$ K and $1.8 \times 10^6$ K electron temperatures respectively, varied across the different coronal structures intercepted by the slit. Fe XIV was the dominant emission in the closed fields of an active region and the base of a streamer, with relatively constant 20 - 30 km s$^{-1}$ line widths independent of the height. In contrast, Fe X emission exhibited broader ($>40 $km s$^{-1}$) line widths in open fields which increased with height, in particular in the polar coronal hole. Inferences of line widths and Doppler shifts were consistent with extreme ultraviolet (EUV) observations from Hinode/EIS, as well as with the near-infrared Fe XIII 1074 nm line observed by CoMP. The differences in the spectral line widths between distinct coronal structures are interpreted as an indication of the predominance of wave heating in open structures versus localized heating in closed structures. The International Gamma-ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL) has been surveying the sky above 20 keV since its launch in 2002 providing new insights into the nature of the sources that populate our Universe at soft gamma-ray energies. The latest IBIS/ISGRI survey lists 929 hard X-ray sources, of which 113 are reported as unidentified, i.e. lacking a lower energy counterpart or simply not studied in other wavebands. To overcome this lack of information, we either browsed the X-ray archives, or, if no data in the X-ray band were available, we requested Target of Opportunity (ToO) observations with the X-ray Telescope (XRT) on-board the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory. Following this approach, we selected a sample of 10 objects for which X-ray data were key to investigate their nature. We found a single X-ray association for all of the sources, except for IGR J16267-3303, for which two X-ray detections were spotted within the IBIS positional uncertainty. We then browsed multi-waveband archives to search for counterparts to these X-ray detections at other wavelengths and analysed X-ray spectral properties to determine their nature and association with the high-energy emitter. As a result of our analysis, we identified the most likely counterpart for 7 sources, although in some cases its nature/class could not be definitely assessed on the basis of the information collected. Interestingly, SWIFT J2221.6+5952, first reported in the 105-month Swift/Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) survey, is the only source of the sample for which we did not find any counterpart at radio/optical/IR wavebands. Finally, we found that two IBIS source, IGR J17449-3037 and IGR J17596-2315 are positionally associated with a Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) object., Comment: 13 figures, 6 tables. We consider the estimation of parameters encoded in the measurement record of a continuously monitored quantum system in the jump unraveling. This unraveling picture corresponds to a single-shot scenario, where information is continuously gathered. Here, it is generally difficult to assess the precision of the estimation procedure via the Fisher Information due to intricate temporal correlations and memory effects. In this paper we provide a full set of solutions to this problem. First, for multi-channel renewal processes we relate the Fisher Information to an underlying Markov chain and derive a easily computable expression for it. For non-renewal processes, we introduce a new algorithm that combines two methods: the monitoring operator method for metrology and the Gillespie algorithm which allows for efficient sampling of a stochastic form of the Fisher Information along individual quantum trajectories. We show that this stochastic Fisher Information satisfies useful properties related to estimation in the single-shot scenario. Finally, we consider the case where some information is lost in data compression/post-selection, and provide tools for computing the Fisher Information in this case. We study two classes of quantum spheres and hyperboloids which are $*$-quantum spaces for the quantum orthogonal group $\mathcal{O}(SO_q(3))$. We construct line bundles over the quantum homogeneous space of invariant elements for the quantum subgroup $SO(2)$ of $SO_q(3)$. These are associated to the quantum principal bundle via corepresentations of $SO(2)$ and are given by finitely-generated projective modules $\mathcal{E}_n$ of rank $1$ and even degree $-2n$. The corresponding idempotents, representing classes in K-theory, are explicitly worked out. Prompted by the relevant problem of temperature inversion (i.e. gradient of density anti-correlated to the gradient of temperature) in astrophysics, we introduce a novel method to model a gravitationally confined multi-component collisionless plasma in contact with a fluctuating thermal boundary. We focus on systems with anti-correlated (inverted) density and temperature profiles, with applications to solar physics. The dynamics of the plasma is analytically described via the coupling of an appropriated coarse-grained distribution function and temporally coarse-grained Vlasov dynamics. We derive a stationary solution of the system and predict the inverted density and temperature profiles of the two-species for scenarios relevant for the corona. We validate our method by comparing the analytical results with kinetic numerical simulations of the plasma dynamics in the context of the two-species Hamiltonian mean-field model (HMF). Finally, we apply our theoretical framework to the problem of the temperature inversion in the solar corona obtaining density and temperature profiles in remarkably good agreement with the observations., Comment: 27 pages, 12 Figs. Intending to introduce a method for the topological analysis of fields, we present a pipeline that takes as an input a weighted and based chain complex, produces a factored chain complex, and encodes it as a barcode of tagged intervals (briefly, a tagged barcode). We show how to apply this pipeline to the weighted and based chain complex of a gradient-like Morse-Smale vector field on a compact Riemannian manifold in both the smooth and discrete settings. Interestingly for computations, it turns out that there is an isometry between factored chain complexes endowed with the interleaving distance and their tagged barcodes endowed with the bottleneck distance. Concerning stability, we show that the map taking a generic enough gradient-like vector field to its barcode of tagged intervals is continuous. Finally, we prove that the tagged barcode of any such vector field can be approximated by the tagged barcode of a combinatorial version of it with arbitrary precision., Comment: 36 pages, 2 figures. We consider the impact that temporal correlations in the measurement statistics can have on the achievable precision in a sequential metrological protocol. In this setting, and for a single quantum probe, we establish that it is the transitions between the measurement basis states that plays the most significant role in determining the precision, with the resulting conditional Fisher information being interpretable as a rate of information acquisition. Projective measurements are shown to elegantly demonstrate this in two disparate estimation settings. Firstly, in determining the temperature of an environment and, secondly, to ascertain a parameter of the system Hamiltonian. The numerical study of relativistic magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) plays a crucial role in high-energy astrophysics, but unfortunately is computationally demanding, given the complex physics involved (high Lorentz factor flows, extreme magnetization, curved spacetimes near compact objects) and the large variety of spatial scales needed to resolve turbulent motions. A great benefit comes from the porting of existing codes running on standard processors to GPU-based platforms. However, this usually requires a drastic rewriting of the original code, the use of specific languages like CUDA, and a complex analysis of data management and optimization of parallel processes. Here we describe the porting of the ECHO code for special and general relativistic MHD to accelerated devices, simply based on native Fortran language built-in constructs, especially 'do concurrent' loops, few OpenACC directives, and the straightforward data management provided by the Unified Memory option of NVIDIA compilers.Thanks to these very minor modifications to the original code, the new version of ECHO runs at least 16 times faster on GPU platforms compared to CPU-based ones. The chosen benchmark is the 3D propagation of a relativistic MHD Alfv\'en wave, for which strong and weak scaling tests performed on the LEONARDO pre-exascale supercomputer at CINECA are provided (using up to 256 nodes corresponding to 1024 GPUs, and over 14 billion cells). Generative Large Language Models (LLMs) hold significant promise in healthcare, demonstrating capabilities such as passing medical licensing exams and providing clinical knowledge. However, their current use as information retrieval tools is limited by challenges like data staleness, resource demands, and occasional generation of incorrect information. This study assessed the potential of LLMs to function as autonomous agents in a simulated tertiary care medical center, using real-world clinical cases across multiple specialties. Both proprietary and open-source LLMs were evaluated, with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) enhancing contextual relevance. Proprietary models, particularly GPT-4, generally outperformed open-source models, showing improved guideline adherence and more accurate responses with RAG. The manual evaluation by expert clinicians was crucial in validating models' outputs, underscoring the importance of human oversight in LLM operation. The optimizations of the track fittings require complex simulations of silicon strip detectors to be compliant with the fundamental properties of the hit heteroscedasticity. Many different generations of random numbers must be available with distributions as similar as possible to the test-beam data. A fast way to solve this problem is an extension of an algorithm of frequent use for the center of gravity positioning corrections. Such extension gives a single method to generate the required types of random numbers. Actually, the starting algorithm is a random number generator, useful in a reverse mode: from non uniform sets of data to uniform ones. The inversion of this operation produces random numbers of given distributions. Many methods have been developed to generate random numbers, but none of those methods is directly connected with this positioning corrections. Hence, the adaptation of the correction algorithm to operate in both mode is illustrated. A sample distribution is generated and its consistency is verified with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. In multi-parameter persistence, the matching distance is defined as the supremum of weighted bottleneck distances on the barcodes given by the restriction of persistence modules to lines with a positive slope. In the case of finitely presented bi-persistence modules, all the available methods to compute the matching distance are based on restricting the computation to lines through pairs from a finite set of points in the plane. Some of these points are determined by the filtration data as they are entrance values of critical simplices. However, these critical values alone are not sufficient for the matching distance computation and it is necessary to add so-called switch points, i.e. points such that on a line through any of them, the bottleneck matching switches the matched pair. This paper is devoted to the algorithmic computation of the set of switch points given a set of critical values. We find conditions under which a candidate switch point is erroneous or superfluous. The obtained conditions are turned into algorithms that have been implemented. With this, we analyze how the size of the set of switch points increases as the number of critical values increases, and how it varies depending on the distribution of critical values. Associated with an equivariant noncommutative principal bundle we give an Atiyah sequence of braided derivations whose splittings give connections on the bundle. Vertical braided derivations act as infinitesimal gauge transformations on connections. For the $SU(2)$-principal bundle over the sphere $S^{4}_\theta$ an equivariant splitting of the Atiyah sequence recovers the instanton connection. An infinitesimal action of the braided conformal Lie algebra $so_\theta(5,1)$ yields a five parameter family of splittings. On the principal $SO_\theta(2n,\mathbb{R})$-bundle of orthonormal frames over the sphere $S^{2n}_\theta$, the splitting of the sequence leads to the Levi-Civita connection for the `round' metric on the $S^{2n}_\theta$. We analyze the open dynamics of quantum systems conditioned on no jumps being detected. We first obtain general results relating the no-jump probability and the waiting-time distributions to the conditional evolution of specific system observables. These results are applied to single-qubit models, whose conditional dynamics is quite involved and shows a rich set of physical behaviors. Furthermore, we obtain general expressions for the no-jump dynamics of non-interacting fermionic-bosonic chains undergoing Gaussian-preserving dynamics. We show that the conditional dynamics is determined by a non-linear Riccati-type differential equation for the correlation matrix. Finally, we apply our results to chains of hopping particles under inhomogeneous jump rates and boundary driven systems in presence of pairing terms., Comment: 22 pages, 10 figures

Clinical note classification is a common clinical NLP task. However, annotated data-sets are scarse. Prompt-based learning has recently emerged as an effective method to adapt pre-trained models for text classification using only few training examples. A critical component of prompt design is the definition of the template (i.e. prompt text). The effect of template position, however, has been insufficiently investigated. This seems particularly important in the clinical setting, where task-relevant information is usually sparse in clinical notes. In this study we develop a keyword-optimized template insertion method (KOTI) and show how optimizing position can improve performance on several clinical tasks in a zero-shot and few-shot training setting.

We study the stack $\mathcal{H}_{r,g,n}$ of $n$-pointed smooth cyclic covers of degree $r$ between smooth curves of genus $g$ and the projective line. We give two presentations of an open substack of $\mathcal{H}_{r,g,n}$ as a quotient stack, and we study its complement. Using this, we compute the integral Picard group of $\mathcal{H}_{r,g,n}$. Moreover, we obtain a very explicit description of the generators of the Picard group, which have evident geometric meaning. As a corollary of the computation, we get the integral Picard group of the stack $\mathcal{H}_{g,n}$ of $n$-pointed hyperelliptic curves of genus $g$. Finally, taking $g=2$ and recalling that $\mathcal{H}_{2,n}=\mathcal{M}_{2,n}$, we obtain $\mathrm{Pic}(\mathcal{M}_{2,n})$., Comment: v2: 35 pages; corrected a mistake at the end of page 24. The only result that changes is the torsion when the degree d of the ramification locus is odd: instead of being of order 2r(rd-1), it is of order r(rd-1). In this work we combined AWSoM's non-equilibrium ionization [NEI] calculations from (Szente:2022) with the synthetic spectral computations of SPECTRUM (Szente:2019), to predict non-equilibrium line intensities across the entire domain of the AWSoM 3D global model. We find that the resulting spectra are strongly affected by non-equilibrium effects in the fast wind regions and streamer edges and that these effects propagate to narrowband images from SoHO/EIT, SECCHI/EUVI and SDO/AIA. The dependence shows a different nature for each line observed resulting in significant changes in line intensity, which need to be accounted for during plasma diagnostics. However, we also find that these effects depend on the local plasma properties, and that no single correction can be developed to account for non-equilibrium effects in observed spectra and images. Comparing to observational data we saw that the changes due to NEI, while significant, are not sufficient to account for the differences between Hinode/EIS spectra and AWSoM/SPECTRUM predictions.

Ancient astronomers faced the problem of dealing with arcs and angles in their observations and predictions without the help of modern trigonometry. The usual method to deal with such problems was the Menelaus Theorem, explicitly discussed and extensively used by Ptolemy. It is generally assumed that Hipparchus, who in his Exegesis explicitly states that he developed a method to calculate Simultaneous Risings and Settings, used either the Menelaus' Theorem, or stereographic projections, even if both methods are only attested for later periods and their availability to Hipparchus is debated. In this paper we argue that simultaneous risings and settings could be calculated using less advanced mathematical tools unquestionably available to Hipparchus: the theorem of Pythagoras, the theory of proportions, and the table of chords. Without claiming that this was indeed the method that Hipparchus used, we argue that there is no need to postulate the availability of more sophisticated tools to carry out the calculations which Hipparchus mentions in the Exegesis.
