The pharmaceutical and food industries are interested in capsaicin because of its therapeutic and functional potential; however, it is necessary to develop an efficient protocol for extraction and purification of capsaicin from natural sources. Thus, this paper aims to study the partitioning and purification of capsaicin from capsicum peppers using aqueous two-phase systems (ATPSs) based on Na+ or K+ salts. Initially, phase diagrams were determined, and the ease of phase formation of acetonitrile + different salts ATPS followed the reverse of Gibbs free energy of hydrations. Capsaicin migrated preferentially to the top phase (acetonitrile-rich phase) by an endothermic and spontaneous process governed by entropic forces. The best condition of separation (KCPS = 43.95 ± 1.52; EECPS = 89.06 ± 1.17%; PFCPS = 2.65 ± 0.01 fold) was found using acetonitrile (20 wt %) + K2CO3 (15 wt %) + water (65 wt %) at 318 K and 0.1 MPa.

Desde o início da pandemia do novo coronavírus (Covid-19) no Brasil, profissionais de saúde residentes, entre eles o farmacêutico, estão desempenhando um papel fundamental na adoção de estratégias para minimizar os impactos da pandemia. O presente estudo tem como objetivo descrever as experiências vivenciadas por um farmacêutico residente vinculado ao programa de residência multiprofissional em saúde da família durante ações de testagem rápidas para Covid-19 realizadas no o município de Aracaju-SE. As ações foram realizadas em vários bairros da capital, de segunda a sexta-feira, obtendo uma média de 600 atendimentos diários. O processo de testagem foi organizado em três etapas: 1) acolhimento; 2) coleta da amostra biológica e 3) entrega do resultado. A atuação do farmacêutico se deu nas etapas 2 e 3 onde, além do cumprimento da etapa em si, alguns serviços farmacêuticos foram prestados a exemplo da educação em saúde e da gestão da condição de saúde. Ainda na etapa de entrega do resultado, foi realizada a leitura do laudo junto ao cliente, bem como houveram esclarecimentos e orientações acerca o isolamento social e uso de máscara. Os casos positivos foram encaminhados para as unidades referências de síndrome gripal. Diante disso, pode-se concluir que a atuação do farmacêutico foi importante para a população devido ao cuidado prestado por meio dos serviços farmacêuticos de Educação em saúde e Gestão da condição de saúde.

Peppers are the principal source of natural capsaicinoids, a class of bioactive compounds with different therapeutic properties (anticancer, antioxidant, anti-obesity) which make it interesting to the development of extraction and purification processes. This work aims at developing an integrated process of extraction and purification to recover capsaicin from pepper Capsicum frutescens. Thus, ATPS consisting of acetonitrile and some cholinium-based ionic liquids were investigated, characterized and the partition of capsaicin on these systems properly optimized. The main results showed that caps aicin is preferentially migrating for the acetonitrile (top) phase. With a simple technology, mild conditions and less solvents, the success of the capsaicin purification from the pepper biomass was achieved (K-CPS = 60.95 +/- 1.29; EECPS = 90.57 +/- 0.48%, and PFCPS = 3.26 +/- 0.08) using ATPS. Summing up, this work allowed the development of an integrated process of extraction and purification of capsaicin from the chili pepper biomass. (C) 2016 Institution of Chemical Engineers.
