Abstract The approximation of complex engineering problems and mathematical regressions serves as the authentic inspiration behind the artificial intelligence metamodeling methods. Among these methods, polynomial chaos expansion, along with artificial neural networks, has emerged at the forefront and become the most practical technique. Previous studies have highlighted their robust capabilities in solving complex problems and their wide utilization across numerous applications, particularly in structural analysis, optimization design problems, and predictive models of uncertainty outcomes. The aim of this article is to present a methodology that introduces their implementation of for structural engineering, primarily focusing on reinforced concrete bridges. The proposed approach consists of demonstrating the applicability of the polynomial chaos to evaluate the dynamic behavior of two-span reinforced concrete bridges through a predictive model of natural vibration properties for eigenvalues modal analysis. Subsequently, response spectral method is conducted according to the Moroccan guide for bridge seismic design and the prescription of the EUROCODE 8 within the context of reliability assessment using Monte Carlo simulation. The efficacy of the proposed approach is illustrated by a comparison between the predicted vibration properties and the resulting values obtained through finite element modal analysis and artificial neural networks. The polynomial chaos process is based on a collected dataset of multiple reinforced concrete bridges sourced from technical studies offices and the Regional Administration of the East, affiliated with the Moroccan Ministry of Equipment and Water. Finally, this work contributes to the field by enhancing predictive modeling and reliability evaluation for bridge engineering using artificial intelligence metamodels.

The Industry 5.0 concept has placed human needs at the heart of industrial processes. This raises the question of how new technologies can enhance employee decision-making processes and influence the evolution of team autonomy. Recent studies have shown that the best way to measure these impacts is to conduct experiments in complex and realistic environmental settings. However, the main methods cannot satisfy this requirement while controlling the events and associated variables, whereas a set of use cases can. Therefore, a model should be defined to generate and structure these use cases while validating their relevance. Following the decomposition of the global research objective and case-definition recommendations, this study proposes a framework for designing complementary use cases to evaluate the impact of new technologies on emerging autonomy models in a structured, realistic, and global manner. Based on widely recognised related work, the 6-step framework helps define a coherent context specifying the business process model, agent, autonomy, technologies to be implemented, their fields of action, detailed variable collection protocol, and experimental setup. A cross-analysis of existing cases from the literature and empirical use of the framework validated the relevance of the model in designing experimental environments that are close to real-world settings. Currently, Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) plays a key role in the software development process as it aims to handle their increasing complexity and focuses on the automatic generation of code and/or specifications from system models. This paper presents a very useful tool for the automatic generation of Maude specifications from both Petri net PNML (Petri Net Markup Language) descriptions or incidence matrices. At the end of this paper, a simple but complete Petri net example will be presented to demonstrate the usefulness of the developed tool.

Abstract: It has been recognised that Algerian society is undergoing deeper societal changes that are having a considerable impact on identity, particularly among the youth generation, which serves as the country's backbone. This article reviews the nature of such shifts and their impact on Algerian youth's social identity. Earth building has always existed on all continents; it constitutes an integral part of the cultural heritage of mankind. The present study is particularly interested in the valorisation of adobe masonry. To do this, a series of adobe units (three types: a, b and c) and adobe masonry wallets (A, B, and C) were prepared manually and infilled with 1cm thick earth mortar. In order to study the mechanical behaviour of the wallets in the laboratory, we study the mechanical behaviour of adobes and earth mortar then we apply the uniaxial loading method on the wallets. Also we present a new analytical formula which gives the mechanical properties of wallets derived from those of bricks and mortar that were determined before they were assembled. The experimental study shows that the compressive strength of wallets is 33% lower than that of adobes, and the deformations are similar to those of bricks, but they are 6 to 8 times smaller than those of mortar. The experimental mechanical properties of wallets were compared with those determined analytically. It give us results similar to the experimental ones with a ratio EManal/ EMexp equal to 1.2.

Abstract Abstract This study aims at the mineralogical and physicochemical characterization of the clay formations of the Miocene age from the Timgad Basin (Massif of Aurès, NE Algeria), in order to evaluate their possible valorization, notably for their potential use in the manufacturing of bricks and ceramic industry. For this purpose, four samples were taken from a clay-dominated formation that outcrops 5 km east of the Timgad city. Each sample was collected, prepared, and analyzed by the appropriate analytical methods of characterization such as X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, and scanning electron microscopy. Moreover, other complementary analyses are performed in this study such as laser granulometry and geotechnical tests. The results of the different tests revealed that the clay formations of the Timgad Basin are non-refractory clays and characterized by medium plasticity. These clays are constituted of more than 50% of fine fraction, mainly represented by kaolinite in association with non-negligible proportions of illite, chlorite, mixed-layer clay minerals, and traces of smectite. Besides, this clayey assemblage is accompanied by some proportion of quartz and calcite, as well as traces of hematite, feldspar, and gypsum. In the light of these results and in combination with the particle size distribution, as well as the results of geotechnical tests, it is concluded that the Neogene clays of the Timgad Basin present high limits of Atterberg. Consequently, their use in the field of manufacturing of bricks and terra cotta ‘Terre Cuite’ products is subordinated to a preliminary treatment with addition of a degreasing agent, in the form of coarse sand, in order to improve their plasticity. Article Highlights Mineralogical and physicochemical properties of the Neogene clays from the Timgad Basin have been investigated. The studied clays have ideal mineralogical composition and physicochemical properties thus making them applicable in the manufacturing of bricks and ceramic industry. Addition of coarse sand to the Neogene clays will greatly improve the plasticity of these raw materials.

In the era of industry 5.0, digital twins (DTs) play an increasingly pivotal role in contemporary society. Despite the literature’s lack of a consistent definition, DTs have been applied to numerous areas as virtual replicas of physical objects, machines, or systems, particularly in manufacturing, production, and operations. One of the major advantages of digital twins is their ability to supervise the system’s evolution and run simulations, making them connected and capable of supporting decision-making. Additionally, they are highly compatible with artificial intelligence (AI) as they can be mapped to all data types and intelligence associated with the physical system. Given their potential benefits, it is surprising that the utilization of DTs for warehouse management has been relatively neglected over the years, despite its importance in ensuring supply chain and production uptime. Effective warehouse management is crucial for ensuring supply chain and production continuity in both manufacturing and retail operations. It also involves uncertain material handling operations, making it challenging to control the activity. This paper aims to evaluate the synergies between AI and digital twins as state-of-the-art technologies and examines warehouse digital twins’ (WDT) use cases to assess the maturity of AI applications within WDT, including techniques, objectives, and challenges. We also identify inconsistencies and research gaps, which pave the way for future development and innovation. Ultimately, this research work’s findings can contribute to improving warehouse management, supply chain optimization, and operational efficiency in various industries.

Abstract Background Anemia is a common extraintestinal manifestation of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) affecting negatively the patients’ quality of life. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency and real-life management of anemia in IBD patients in Greece. Methods This study was conducted in 17 Greek IBD referral centers. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, IBD and anemia treatment data were collected and analyzed retrospectively. Results A total of 1394 IBD patients [560 ulcerative colitis (UC), 834 Crohn’s disease (CD)] were enrolled. Anemia at any time was reported in 687 (49.3%) patients of whom 413 (29.6%) had episodic and 274 (19.7%) had recurrent/persistent anemia. Anemia was diagnosed before IBD in 45 (6.5%), along with IBD in 269 (39.2%) and after IBD in 373 (54.3%) patients. In the multivariate analysis the presence of extraintestinal manifestations (p = 0.0008), IBD duration (p = 0.026), IBD related surgeries and hospitalizations (p = 0.026 and p = 0.004 accordingly) were risk factors of recurrent/persistent anemia. Serum ferritin was measured in 839 (60.2%) IBD patients. Among anemic patients, 535 (77.9%) received treatment. Iron supplementation was administered in 485 (90.6%) patients, oral in 142 (29.3%) and intravenous in 393 (81%). Conclusions The frequency of anemia in IBD patients, followed at Greek referral centers, is approximately 50%. Development of recurrent/persistent anemia may be observed in 20% of cases and is independently associated with the presence of extraintestinal manifestations, IBD duration, IBD related surgeries and hospitalizations. Anemia treatment is administered in up to $$4/5$$ 4 / 5 of anemia IBD patients with the majority of them receiving iron intravenously.
