Abstract

Peniophora proxima Bres. is corticioid fungus belonging to family Peniophoraceae (Basidiomycota). It is easily distinguished by the numerous encrusted cystidia, gloeocystidia and ellipsoid spores. The species is considered a common white rot saprobe restricted only to the Buxus representatives. One of the most popular species of the Old world is Buxus sempervirens L. (European boxwood), native to western and southern Europe, northwest Africa, and southwest Asia. Although the species does not belong to the native flora of Bulgaria, for many years, the European boxwoods have been one of the most popular and widely used landscaping plants, in the form of ornamental shrubs or dense, evergreen hedges in shady places. P. proxima has been reported from different parts of Europe, but it has not been previously reported for Bulgaria. 4. New Records of Peniophora Species (Basidiomycota) for the Bulgarian Mycota.

Abstract

This study provides new data for two corticioid species of genus Peniophora Cooke for the Bulgarian mycota, P. piceae and P. pini as wood-decaying saprobes, causing a white rot in coniferous wood. These fungal species have restricted range that follow the spread of the coniferous hosts. P. piceae is known only as saprotroph on dead spruce wood while P. pini prefers dead wood of pine. The work includes information on the morphology and ecological features as well as the distribution pattern of the species in Bulgaria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Summary. The Herbarium (SOM) of the Department of the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, is one of the largest Herbaria in the Balkans. Of particular interest are the specialized collections stored in the herbarium; including the thematic collection of researcher Nikolay Vihodtsevski, which represents the plant diversity of Mt. Vitosha, near Sofia, Bulgaria. Even today, this collection is of great importance for the study of plant diversity in Bulgaria.

8. Contribution to the knowledge of genus Amylostereum in the Macedonian mycota.

Abstract

This is the first paper referring to the taxonomy of genus Amylostereum as part of the macedonian mycobiota. The species within the genus Amylostereum cause decaying of white rot type in conifers. According to the recent distribution studies conducted in Macedonia, the species Amylostereum areolatum is of conservation value and, therefore, is included in the Macedonian Red List of Fungi. Known only as a saprotroph on spruce trees, Amylostereum chailletii is commonly found on fallen fir branches, while Amylostereum laevigatum is known from different juniper species from several localities. Abstract

The article deals with bryophytes and macrofungi studied on the territory of Vrana Park. Sixty-eight species of bryophytes and 87 fungal species were recorded. Of these, four species of bryophytes and three fungal species are of conservation importance. An overview and comments on the habitat condition are provided. 10. New data about macrofungal diversity in Bulgaria.

Abstract

Five macrofungi are reported for the first time from Bulgaria. One species (Podophacidium xanthomelum) belongs to Ascomycota and four species (Arrhenia obatra, A. sphagnicola, Marasmius curreyi, and Thelephora penicillata) belong to Basidiomycota. Podophacidium (Helotiales) is new to the country at generic level. Descriptions and illustrations of the studied specimens are provided. New localities of about twelve macrofungi are also reported. Five of them (Arrhenia lobata, A. onisca, A. spathulata, Guepinia helvelloides and Hericium flagellum) are of high conservation value. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

11. Populations state of selected communities of Juniperus communis (Common Juniper) in Vitosha Mt., Bulgaria.

Abstract

Juniperus communis L. formations on heaths or calcareous grassland are included in the Bulgarian Biological Diversity Act (code 5130) and some of them are covered by the European Ecological Network Natura 2000 in Bulgaria. Aim: The purpose of this work is to investigate the status of selected communities with the participation of J. communis in the Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) "Vitosha" with an emphasis on the species richness of plants and fungi and the impact of natural and anthropogenic factors. Material and methods: The survey was conducted between May and September 2019. Habitat 5130 covers an area of 19.27 ha in the territory of SAC "Vitosha". For the purpose of this study is crawled throughout the mountain where it is registered. The route and stationary methods were used for selected objects. Reporting plots were installed in 5 places, each with an area of 100 sq.m. For the assessment of the state of J. communis' communities and the influencing factors the appropriate Methodology used for the establishment of the national Natura 2000 network in Bulgaria was applied (Zingstra et al. 2009). Results: A remarkable species richness of plants and fungi was found in the selected communities of Common Juniper at SAC "Vitosha". A new lignicolous species for the Bulgarian mycota, Peniophora junipericola J. Erikss on single host J. communis, was found. The explored plant communities were in good condition and have not been established factors threatening their existence. Conclusion: The habitat occurs at various altitudes and includes species with various ecological characteristics. A tendency for restoration and increasing of the areas covered by the Common juniper has been observed recently as a result of abandonment of arable land. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
