Vietnamese higher education has been entering the era of digital technology education. This is considered an opportunity for educational institutions to change the content and form of teaching to meet the individualized needs of learners, helping them adapt to the future learning and working environment. Through investigating and synthesizing theoretical knowledge and analyzing strengths and weaknesses from previous research, the article analyzes the role, meaning and challenges of Vietnamese higher education when applying personalization according to the adaptive learning model; From there, propose a number of solutions that contribute to orienting educational institutions to improve the content and forms of learning in accordance with the goals, abilities and needs of individualized adaptive learning of learners, guiding learners to the community learning environment and learning society in the future.

Caragobius urolepis has a wide range of distribution, from brackish to freshwater water, ranging from India to the Philippines and Fiji, including the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD), where it lives mainly in the coastal regions and plays a vital role in food supply. Our preliminary observation showed that its population tended to decline, but little is known about this species. This study, therefore, was conducted to provide data on the ovarian structure, spawning pattern and season, length at first maturity, and batch fecundity of this fish. The study of 306 specimens caught with trawl nets from April 2022 to March 2023 in two coastal areas of VMD—Dong Hai, Bac Lieu (DHBL), and Dam Doi, Ca Mau (DDCM)—showed that this goby spawned more than once because the oocytes in stage IV ovary showed different stages of development. It could release eggs monthly during a 12-month study, with a peak in July–September since stage IV ovaries were found monthly during the study period and the GSI exhibited a high value in July–September. The fish length at first maturity and batch fecundity varied with the site, as they were 18.8 cm and 3,757–9,187 (6,142 ± 707 SE eggs/female) in DDCM and 20.5 cm and 3,760–11,118 (5,634 ± 750 SE eggs/female) in DHBL. The findings provide valuable foundations for exploiting their resources and serve as a basis for studying artificial reproduction. It is suggested to avoid catching these fish species during the breeding season to ensure sustainable exploitation in the future.

Abstract The present study focused on the quantitative determination of active compounds, antioxidant and antibacterial activities of leaf extracts of different Sonneratia species. The tested species including Sonneratia alba (SA), Sonneratia caseolaris (SC), and Sonneratia ovata Backer (SO) were collected from Can Gio Mangrove Forest, Vietnam. The methanol extract of SA leaves was found to contain the highest content of total flavonoids, total phenolics and gallic acid (4344.16 ± 51.78 μg/g dry mass). The highest luteolin‐7‐O‐glucoside and luteolin amounts (5963.28 ± 59.77 and 234.33 ± 10.41 μg/g dry mass, respectively) were found in the methanol extract of SC leaves according to HPLC‐DAD analysis. The methanol extracts of all three species exhibited strong DPPH radical scavenging activity while the ethanol extracts provided strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium, and Escherichia coli. By fractionating the extracts over a SiO2 column using CHCl3: EA: MeOH gradients, the fractions containing high purity luteolin and luteolin‐7‐glucoside from SC and high purity luteolin from SO were collected. Moreover, all fractions demonstrated significant DPPH free radical scavenging ability but the fraction enriched in gallic acid showed the highest activity. These findings show that SA is a promising source of gallic acid while SC can be potentially used for the extraction and isolation of luteolin‐7‐glucoside.

Background Human papillomavirus (HPV) is known as a common agent of sexually transmitted infections and cervical cancer. One of the most effective ways for parents to protect their children from HPV is by ensuring they receive vaccinations. Aim To determine the percentage of parents who intend to vaccinate their children against HPV and associated factors. Method A cross-sectional study was conducted on 365 parents who had children attending high school in Ha Tinh province, Vietnam, from April to May 2023, using stratified and random sampling methods. Data were collected by a self-administered questionnaire designed based on previous studies and the domains of the Theory of Planned Behavior and Health Belief Model. A multivariable logistic regression was performed to determine the association between several factors and vaccination status. Result A total of 365 participants took part in the study. The rate of parents intending to vaccinate their children against HPV was 55.9%. Knowledge about the HPV disease and vaccine (all P < .05) and the attitude of parents ( P < .001) were determined as the motivation factors that affect the intention to vaccinate children against HPV. Conclusion Many parents still do not have the intention to vaccinate children against HPV. Health education communication should focus on the motivation factors, not only to improve the parents’ knowledge and perspective but also to increase the coverage of the vaccine to prevent cancers caused by HPV.

Abstract Traditional approaches to coastal defence often struggle to reduce the risks of accelerated climate change. Incorporating nature-based components into coastal defences may enhance adaptation to climate change with added benefits, but we need to compare their performance against conventional hard measures. We conduct a meta-analysis that compares the performances of hard, hybrid, soft and natural measures for coastal defence across different functions of risk reduction, climate change mitigation, and cost-effectiveness. Hybrid and soft measures offer higher risk reduction and climate change mitigation benefits than unvegetated natural systems, while performing on par with natural measures. Soft and hybrid measures are more cost-effective than hard measures, while hybrid measures provide the highest hazard reduction among all measures. All coastal defence measures have a positive economic return over a 20-year period. Mindful of risk context, our results provide strong an evidence-base for integrating and upscaling nature-based components into coastal defences in lower risk areas.

Abstract The rice root system consists of two types of lateral roots, indeterminate larger L-types capable of further branching, and determinate, short, unbranched S-types. L-type laterals correspond to the typical lateral roots of cereals whereas S-type laterals are unique to rice. Both types contribute to nutrient and water uptake and genotypic variation for density and length of these laterals could be exploited in rice improvement to enhance adaptations to nutrient and water-limited environments. Our objectives were to determine how best to screen for lateral root density and length and to identify markers linked to genotypic variation for these traits. Using different growing media showed that screening in nutrient solution exposed genotypic variation for S-type and L-type density, but only the lateral roots of soil-grown plants varied for their lengths. A QTL mapping population developed from parents contrasting for lateral root traits was grown in a low-P field, roots were sampled, scanned and density and length of lateral roots measured. One QTL each was detected for L-type density (LDC), S-type density on crown root (SDC), S-type density on L-type (SDL), S-type length on L-type (SLL), and crown root number (RNO). The QTL for LDC on chromosome 5 had a major effect, accounting for 46% of the phenotypic variation. This strong positive effect was confirmed in additional field experiments, showing that lines with the donor parent allele at qLDC5 had 50% higher LDC. Investigating the contribution of lateral root traits to P uptake using stepwise regressions indicated LDC and RNO were most influential, followed by SDL. Simulating effects of root trait differences conferred by the main QTL in a P uptake model confirmed that qLDC5 was most effective in improving P uptake followed by qRNO9 for RNO and qSDL9 for S-type lateral density on L-type laterals. Pyramiding qLDC5 with qRNO9 and qSDL9 would be possible given that trade-offs between traits were not detected. Phenotypic selection for the RNO trait during variety development would be feasible, however, the costs of doing so reliably for lateral root density traits is prohibitive and markers identified here therefore provide the first opportunity to incorporate such traits into a breeding program.

We present the current state of the art in micro-transfer printing for heterogeneously integrated silicon photonic integrated circuits. The versatility of the technology is highlighted, as is the way ahead to make this technology a key enabler for next-generation photonic systems-on-chip.

Abstract The use of gnobiotic brine shrimp (Artemia spp.) for ecotoxicology and bacteria-host interaction studies is common. However, requirements for axenic culture and matrix effects of seawater media can be an obstacle. Thus, we investigated the hatching ability of Artemia cysts on a novel sterile Tryptic Soy Agar (TSA) medium. Herein, we demonstrate for the first time that Artemia cysts can hatch on a solid medium without liquid, which offers practical advantages. We further optimized the culture conditions for temperature and salinity and assessed this culture system for toxicity screening of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) across multiple biological endpoints. Results revealed that maxima hatching (90%) of embryos occurred at 28 °C and without addition of sodium chloride. When capsulated cysts were cultured on TSA solid medium Artemia were negatively impacted by AgNPs at 30–50 mgL−1 in terms of the embryo hatching ratio (47–51%), umbrella- to nauplii-stage transformation ratio (54–57%), and a reduction in nauplii-stage growth (60–85% of normal body length). At 50–100 mgL−1 AgNPs and higher, evidence of damage to lysosomal storage was recorded. At 500 mgL−1 AgNPs, development of the eye was inhibited and locomotory behavior impeded. Our study reveals that this new hatching method has applications in ecotoxicology studies and provides an efficient means to control axenic requirements to produce gnotobiotic brine shrimp.

This investigation aims to study the reproductive traits, including sex ratio, spawning season and pattern, batch fecundity (F), and length at first maturity (Lm), of the commercial catfish Mystus mysticetus living in the freshwater of the Mekong and Chao Phraya basins. A collection of 596 individuals was caught using trawl nets from Cai Rang, Can Tho (CT) and Long Phu, Soc Trang (ST) from October 2020 to September 2021. The results showed a female-biased sex ratio (0.64 males: 1.00 females) and a pattern of multi-spawner as ripe ovaries contained different developmental stages of oocytes. A combined analysis of gonadal occurrence frequency and gonadosomatic index showed that this fish spawned during the wet season with a peak in June-July at CT and September-October at ST. The F ranged from 4,470–22,457 eggs/female (CT) to 4,104–23,651 eggs/female (ST) and these values increased with fish size. The egg diameter ranged from 0.63 ± 0.06 to 0.64 ± 0.06 SD mm, and Lm was higher in males (11.6 at CT and 11.2 at ST) than in females (10.9 at CT and 10.4 at ST). To conclude, it is recommended that the fish should be caught at length > Lm and avoid fishing in the main spawning period in order to exploit this fish resource sustainably.

Crop plant diseases caused by oomycetes and fungi have caused a lot of environmental, economic, and health damage to mankind. Streptomyces flaveus has been known to be able to suppress the growth of many oomycetes and fungal plant pathogens due to its ability to produce SW-B, an antibiotic. However, this antibiotic was reported not to be active enough to suppress the growth of a number of other fungal plant pathogens. In this paper, we demonstrate that S. flaveus RT1-1 was able to degrade fungal biomass and colloidal chitin due to producing chitinases. This promotes the potential of S. flaveus RT1-1 as a biocontrol agent that could help in achieving many sustainable development goals, to the benefit of mankind.

The present study reported an alternative way of sex-determining for scaleless worm goby Caragobius urolepis based on the regression relationship of some morphological parameters. A total of 328 samples were collected at the trawl nets in two coastal regions in Bac Lieu and Ca Mau from April to August 2022. After collection, the samples were transported to the laboratory in order to measure the total length (TL), body height (BD), head length (HL), the distance of eye (DE), and mouth width (MD) before surgery for accurate sex determination based on gonads. Regression analysis results of TL-BD (growth pattern A+ in females and I in males), TL-HL (growth pattern A+ in females and A- in males), and TL- MD (growth pattern A- in females and A+ in males) could be used to determine the sex of this fish. Moreover, TL-DE and TL-BD could be used to estimate when the samples were collected, e.g , in the dry or wet season, because DE and BD displayed A+ in the wet season but A- in the dry one. The findings could be used as an alternative way to determine fish sex and catching season for this species and others in the Mekong Delta.

In this study, biochar made from the Sesbania sesban plant, under slow pyrolysis at 300°C was used to adsorb methylene blue (MB) in aqueous solution. The biochar properties were clarified by diverse analytical methods such as FTIR, SEM, and BET. The results indicated that the surface of biochar was relatively smooth, had porous texture, and stacked evenly. In addition, the biochar had a large specific surface area of 561.8 m2/g and the pHpzc value was 6.9. The effect of adsorbent dosage, initial pH, contact time, and concentration of dye solution on biochar were investigated. The optimum conditions for MB adsorption were found at the MB concentration of 50 mg/L, initial pH of 11, biochar mass of 0.6 mg, and contact time of 30 min. Under these optimal conditions, MB dye removal efficiency was above 90%. Adsorption isotherm data were fitted with the Langmuir isotherm model (R2=0.897) suggesting the adsorption was monolayer, and its maximum adsorption capacity was about 6.6 mg/g. The adsorption kinetic models showed that the linear pseudo-second-order by R2=0.999 was well fitted. The results indicated the enormous potential of Sesbania sesban plant to produce biochar as a low-cost and rather high-effective adsorbent for dye removal from wastewater as well as water quality improvement.

Ag3PO4 was prepared by the precipitation method using monobasic/dibasic phosphate salts (K2HPO4, KH2PO4, Na2HPO4, NaH2PO4) as a precipitating agent. The environment created by the precursor salts strong affected on the crystallinity and the morphology of Ag3PO4. Ag3PO4 synthesized from dibasic phosphate salts exhibited pseudospherical morphology and small particle size while monobasic phosphate salts promoted crystallization, resulting in a large grain size and a very diverse grain morphology. Ag3PO4 prepared from dibasic phosphate salts (K2HPO4 and Na2HPO4) exhibited superior photocatalytic ability, completely degrading rhodamine B (RhB) in 8 min and 10 min under Xenon lamp irradiation, respectively. This result once again confirms the necessity of particle size reduction in the production of photocatalysts.

Abstract Population's biological parameters, including length at first capture, mortalities, exploitation rates, growth coefficient, longevity, and recruitment times, are essential in assessing fishing status, but there is no data on Mystus mysticetus. Therefore, the study was conducted to provide these parameters to assess the fishing status of this species at Cai Rang, Can Tho (CRCT) and Long Phu, Soc Trang (LPST). A collection of 741 individual fish was used for analysis and showed that most fish size groups ranged from 9.0 cm to 12.0 cm, and the asymptotic length was 16.8 cm for both CRCT and LPST populations. The fish population von Bertalanffy curve was Lt = 16.80(1 − e−0.51(t + 0.38)) at CRCT and Lt = 16.80(1 − e−0.48(t + 0.40)) at LPST. The fish growth coefficient at CRCT (2.16) was higher than at LPST (2.13), whereas the reverse case was true for longevity ranging from 5.88 years (at CRCT) to 6.25 years (at LPST). At CRCT, fishing mortality, natural mortality, total mortality, and exploitation rate were 0.69/year, 1.40/year, 2.09/year, and 0.33, respectively; at LPST, these values were 0.75/year, 1.33/year, 2.08/year, and 0.36, respectively. Although the population parameter of this fish species exhibited a spatial variation, both CRCT and LPST fish resources have not been subjected to overexploit because E (0.33 at CRCT and 0.36 at LPST) is lower than E0.1 (0.707 at CRCT and 0.616 at LPST).

This study supplemented the way of sex determination of fish based on the regression relationship of some morphological indicators of Mystus mysticetus. A total of 425 fish specimens were collected by trawl nets at Cai Rang - Can Tho and Long Phu - Soc Trang from January to July 2022. After collection, the fish were transferred to the laboratory to determine their total length (TL), standard length (SL), eye diameter (ED), eye distance (DE), body height (BD), head length (HL), and mouth width (MD) before anatomy for sex determination based on gonads. The regression analysis results of TL-SL, TL-ED, TL-DE, TL-BD, TL-HL, and TL-MD showed that SL, DE, and MD could be used to determine the sex of this fish species because SL and DE were dominant in growth in males, and MD was prevalent in females. In addition, SL could be used to determine the sampling time and HL to determine the distribution environment.

Knowledge sharing is a relatively new issue in the public sector, but it is very important, as evidenced by many studies in the private sector that have studied the influence of knowledge sharing on the performance of innovation. The current public accounting, which is in the process of international integration and the accrual basis of accounting reform, is one of the innovations. With the aim of helping public sector organizations improve the performance of accounting innovation, many studies have shown the important role of knowledge sharing, however, with the specificity of public sector organizations, this issue has not been implemented and verified. The mixed-method (interviewing 06 experts and a quantitative survey of 266 samples from public sector organizations in Vietnam) has been applied. The results demonstrate that knowledge sharing has no impact on the performance of accounting innovation. Instead, the creativity and receptivity of accountants have a significant impact on the performance of accounting innovation. At the same time, the biggest influencing factor that stimulates accountants’ willingness to share accounting knowledge is the support of leaders, while organizational rewards and the use of information technology did not affect the knowledge sharing of accounting staff of the units. Key findings are discussed for public organizations in Vietnam to improve accounting innovation in the context of global integration. Besides, this study discusses the policy implications of the study and describes possible future research directions.

Within English teaching and learning facilities in most schools and English language centers in Vietnam, using songs is considered to be one of the most effective techniques for improving young learners’ communicative competencies in English. Although many studies have discussed the technique, few studies have mentioned teachers’ perceptions regarding the employment of songs in teaching listening to young learners in the context of Vietnam. To investigate teachers’ perceptions of using songs in teaching listening to young learners, this study was conducted with a mixed-method approach using questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with 55 teachers from an English language center in Tra Vinh Province. The results indicated positive perceptions from teachers about utilizing songs in teaching listening to young learners. The teachers tended to enjoy integreating songs in their teaching listening activities. From the findings, the paper concludes by suggesting more research within the state school context specifically targeting teaching listening skills for other grades using songs.

A micellar hydrogel has long been considered an intelligent hydrophobic drug delivery material. In this study, synthesized PLA1750-PEG1750-PLA1750 micellar hydrogel aims to encapsulate ibuprofen (IBU) in the core PLA hydrophobic of the micelle and prolong the drug release time by an injectable route. The structure and morphology of the PLA1750-PEG1750-PLA1750 copolymer hydrogel were demonstrated by 1H NMR and TEM data. The hydrogel also achieved a gel state at a high concentration of 25 wt.% under the physiological conditions of the body (37°C, pH 7.4). Besides, the biocompatibility test displayed that the hydrogel slightly affected mice after injection one week and fully recovered after four weeks. Furthermore, the in vitro degradation of the hydrogel showed apparent gel erosion after the first three weeks, which is related to the IBU release rate: slow for the first three weeks and then fast. As a result, the total drug release after three and four weeks was 18 wt.% and 41 wt.%, respectively. However, in the first 24 hours, the amount of the drug released was 10 wt.%, suggesting that the IBU drug diffused from the surface hydrogel to the buffer solution. These show that PLA1750-PEG1750-PLA1750 hydrogel can be a potential IBU drug delivery candidate.

Glossogobius sparsipapillus is a potential candidate for aquaculture in the Mekong Delta, but information on its food and feeding habit is still fragmented and deficient. This study, therefore, aims to contribute diet and feeding ecology to this fish based on 661 specimens (331 males and 330 females) caught in estuarine areas from December 2019 to November 2020. Data analysis showed that fish diet composition comprised five categories such as Acetes spp., small fish, Polychaeta, Uca spp., and others (e.g., fish scales and detritus). This goby is a generalist feeder, feeding preliminarily on Acetes spp. but rarely on Polychaeta. Feeding intensity is high and does not change with sexes but varies according to fish sizes, seasons, and sites. Moreover, a similar meal size was observed in different sexes, fish sizes, seasons, and sites. The findings supply the fundamental knowledge on the food and feeding of this species, being used for artificially cultivating study.

The Squaretail mullet Ellochelon vaigiensis is widely found from marine to brackish and freshwater, including the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD). Data on the length-weight relationships (LWRs), growth pattern, and condition factor (CF) play an essential role in fisheries assessment but are limited to E. vaigiensis – a commercial fish in VMD. To better understand the growth pattern of this fish, the study collected samples at four sites, including Thanh Phu, Ben Tre (BT); Duyen Hai, Tra Vinh (TV); Tran De, Soc Trang (ST); and Dong Hai, Bac Lieu (BL). Each month, fish samples were collected using bottom nets at each sampling site during high tide in both the dry season (January to May 2021) and the wet season (November to December 2020 and June to October 2021). This study qualified whether LWRs, growth pattern, and CF of E. vaigiensis vary with sexual, intraspecific, and spatiotemporal variables. The analysis results of 942 specimens showed that fish total length (TL = 17.86 ± 0.13 cm) and weight (W = 54.29 ± 1.05 g) changed with sex, season, month and site. The W could be appraised from a given TL due to high coefficients (r2) of LWRs that were regulated by fish size and season but not sex. The cultural or technological variability and homogeneity of lithic industries during the transition from the Late Pleistocene to the Holocene in mainland Southeast Asia (SEA) and South China have yet to be clearly deciphered. Using typology as the main method and criterion for comparing lithic industries has failed to reveal either the character of lithic industries or their homogeneity and variability on a regional scale. This article presents a new technological analysis of Hoabinhian stone artifacts preserved in the Museum of Anthropology at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Hanoi and compares it with a typical Hoabinhian techno-complex from Laang Spean Cave in Cambodia and a representative cobble-tool industry from Luobidong on Hainan Island, South China. The comparisons suggest that remarkable differences in operational sequence existed not only between South China and the Hoabinhian of SEA, but also between different Hoabinhian assemblages of SEA. This study thus represents an important step forward for deciphering the homogeneity and variability of lithic industries on the larger regional scale of SEA and South China. Project-based learning has gained significant attention in the field of education, particularly in K-12 Mathematics education, due to its potential for fostering students' abilities relevant to the demands of the 21st century. However, there is a notable absence of a systematic evaluation regarding the implementation and effectiveness of project-based learning specifically in the context of Mathematics education. This knowledge gap presents a challenge and limitation for researchers seeking to stay abreast of the latest advancements in the field. Thus, the objective of this article is to provide a comprehensive assessment of the current state of project-based learning in K-12 Mathematics, encompassing its practices, influencing factors, barriers, and future developments. To achieve this, the study employs the PRISMA method, analyzing a collection of 25 publications retrieved from reputable databases such as Scopus and Google Scholar, covering the period from 2019 to 2023. Through meticulous analysis and synthesis of these publications, the study highlights key findings, publication trends over time, countries where project-based learning has been implemented, extracted keywords, research methodology statistics, and provides insights into influencing factors, limitations, difficulties, and future research opportunities in this domain.
