Single crystals of tricadmium orthophosphate, Cd3(PO4)2, have been synthesized successfully by the hydrothermal route, while its powder form was obtained by a solid-solid process. The corresponding crystal structure was determined using X-ray diffraction data in the monoclinic space group P21/n. The crystal structure consists of Cd2O8 or Cd2O10 dimers linked together by PO4 tetrahedra through sharing vertices or edges. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to investigate the morphology and to confirm the chemical composition of the synthesized powder. Infrared analysis corroborates the presence of isolated phosphate tetrahedrons in the structure. UV–Visible studies showed an absorbance peak at 289 nm and a band gap energy of 3.85 eV, as determined by the Kubelka–Munk model.

We report the synthesis of two novel halogenated nitro-arylhimachalene derivatives: 2-bromo-3,5,5,9-tetramethyl-1-nitro-6,7,8,9-tetrahydro-5H-benzo[7]annulene (bromo-nitro-arylhimachalene) and 2-chloro-3,5,5,9-tetramethyl-1,4-dinitro-6,7,8,9-tetrahydro-5H-benzo[7]annulene (chloro-dinitro-arylhimachalene). These compounds were derived from arylhimachalene, an important sesquiterpene component of Atlas cedar essential oil, via a two-step halogenation and nitration process. Characterization was performed using 1H and 13C NMR spectrometry, complemented by X-ray structural analysis. Quantum chemical calculations employing density functional theory (DFT) with the Becke3-Lee-Yang-parr (B3LYP) functional and a 6-31++G(d,p) basis set were conducted. The optimized geometries of the synthesized compounds were consistent with X-ray structure data. Frontier molecular orbitals and molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) profiles were identified and discussed. DFT reactivity indices provided insights into the compounds’ behaviors. Moreover, Hirshfeld surface and 2D fingerprint analyses revealed significant intermolecular interactions within the crystal structures, predominantly H–H and H–O contacts. Molecular docking studies demonstrate strong binding affinities of the synthesized compounds to the active site of protein 7B2W, suggesting potential therapeutic applications against various isolated smooth muscles and neurotransmitters.

The orthophosphate BaNi2Fe(PO4)3 has been synthesized by a solid-state reaction route and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The crystal structure comprises (100) sheets made up of [Ni2O10] dimers that are linked to two PO4 tetrahedra via common edges and vertices and of linear infinite [010] chains of corner-sharing [FeO6] octahedra and [PO4] tetrahedra. The linkage of the sheets and chains into a framework is accomplished through common vertices of PO4 tetrahedra and [FeO6] octahedra. The framework is perforated by channels in which positionally disordered Ba2+ cations are located.

In this study, a new bi-nuclear nickel complex [Ni2HL2(EtOH)2](Cl)(EtOH) of a Schiff base ligand, 2-[3-[2-hydroxybenzylideneamino]propyliminomethyl]phenol, was synthesized and characterized using UV/Vis, IR, HRMS, and TGA/DTA analysis. The molecular structure of the obtained complex was corroborated by the single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. It was found in the complex that two molecules of the ligand coordinate with two nickel atoms through azomethine-N and phenoxy-O, resulting in 6-coordinate distorted octahedral geometry, in which two ethanol molecules occupy the axial positions. The dielectric and electrical properties of the obtained samples were studied by impedance spectroscopy at different frequencies (from 1 Hz to 1 MHz) in the temperature range 298–343 K. It is found that the electrical conductivity of the Ni(II) complex is lower than that of the free ligand H2L, suggesting that the complexation traps the charge carriers contained in the ligand.

Single crystals of β-KCoFe(PO4)2, potassium cobalt(II) iron(III) bis(orthophosphate), were grown from the melt under atmospheric conditions. This phosphate crystallizes isotypically with KZnFe(PO4)2 in space group C2/c, adopting a zeolite-ABW type of structure. The structure of the present phosphate is distinguished by an occupational disorder of the two transition-metal sites with ratios Fe:Co of 0.5725:0.4275 for the first and 0.4275:0.5725 for the second site. In the crystal structure, PO4 and (Co,Fe)O4 tetrahedra are linked through vertices to form elliptical rings with the sequence DDDDUUUU of up (U) and down (D) pointing vertices. Each eight-membered ring is surrounded by four other rings of the same type, delimiting interstices with rectangular shape. This arrangement leads to the formation of [(Co/Fe)(PO4)]−∞ sheets parallel to (001). Stacking of the sheets into a three-dimensional framework results in the formation of two types of channels. The first one is occupied by potassium cations, whereas the second one remains vacant. Calculations of bond-valence sums and charge distribution were used to confirm the structure model.

The title compound, C17H17BrN2O5, resulted from the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction between dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate and (3-bromobenzylidene)-4-methyl-5-oxopyrazolidin-2-ium-1-ide in CHCl3. The dihedral angle between the pyrazole rings (all atoms) is 32.91 (10)°; the oxo-pyrazole ring displays an envelope conformation whereas the other pyrazole ring adopts a twisted conformation. The bromophenyl ring subtends a dihedral angle of 88.95 (9)° with the mean plane of its attached pyrazole ring. In the crystal, the molecules are linked by C—H...O hydrogen bonds and aromatic π–π interactions with an inter-centroid distance of 3.8369 (10) Å. The Hirshfeld surface analysis and fingerprint plots reveal that the molecular packing is governed by H...H (37.1%), O...H/H...O (31.3%), Br...H/H...Br (13.5%) and C...H/H...C (10.6%) contacts. The energy framework indicates that dispersion energy is the major contributor to the molecular packing.

A novel pyrophosphate Na7Ni3Fe(P2O7)4 was synthesized in two distinct forms, single-crystal and powder. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction was used to determine the crystal structure, and powder X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were used to examine the purity and morphology of the elaborated powder. This phosphate crystallizes in the P1¯ space group of the triclinic system with a = 6.3677 (2) Å, b = 9.3316 (4) Å, c = 10.8478 (4) Å, α = 65.191 (1)°, β = 80.533 (1)° and γ = 73.042 (1)°. The crystal framework is assembled from the linkage of centro-symmetrical clusters Ni2(Ni/Fe)2P4O28. Each cluster consists of two (Fe1/Ni1)O6 octahedra, two Ni2O6 octahedra and two P2O7 units. The linkage of these clusters is provided by two other P2O7 units to generate a three-dimensional structure with distinct tunnels in the [100], [010] and [001] directions, housing the Na+ cations. The infrared and Raman analyses show the characteristic bands of the pyrophosphate anion P2O74−. Remarkably, the magnetic investigations revealed the coexistence of two magnetic transitions at ~29 K and ~4.5 K with dominating antiferromagnetic interactions.

We have previously published on a new triazolic phosphonic α-amino ester in position 4 on the triazole ring of a naphthalene ester. The aim of the present paper was to describe its crystallographic study by XRD. The crystal structure of naphthalen-2-yl 1-(benzamido(diethoxyphosphoryl)methyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazole-4-carboxylate was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/c. The naphthalene system is almost planar and makes dihedral angles of 67.1(2)° and 63.9(2)° with the triazole ring and the phenyl cycle, respectively. The phosphorus atom is surrounded by three oxygen atoms and one carbon atom building a distorted tetrahedron. It is also noted, that one of the two ethyl groups is disordered. In the crystal, the molecules are connected through C-H…O and N-H…O hydrogen bonds to build dimers that are linked together by C-H…O hydrogen bonds, in addition to C-H…π interactions. The presence of an intramolecular hydrogen bond contributes to the stability of the molecular conformation by completing the S(5) cycle.

Single crystals of Ag1.64Zn1.64Fe1.36(PO4)3 [silver zinc iron phosphate (1.64/1.64/1.36/3)] have been synthesized by a conventional solid-state reaction and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The title compound crystallizes with an alluaudite-like structure. All atoms of the structure are in general positions except for four, which reside on special positions of the space group, C2/c. The Ag+ cations reside at full occupancy on inversion centre sites and at partial occupancy (64%) on a twofold rotation axis. In this structure, the unique Fe3+ ion with one of the two Zn2+ cations are substitutionally disordered on the same general position (Wyckoff site 8f), with a respective ratio of 0.68/0.32 (occupancies were fixed so as to ensure electrical neutrality for the whole structure). The remaining O and P atoms are located in general positions. The three-dimensional framework of this structure consists of kinked chains of edge-sharing octahedra stacked parallel to [10\overline{1}]. These chains are built up by a succession of [MO6] (M = Zn/Fe or Zn) units. Adjacent chains are connected by the PO4 anions, forming sheets oriented perpendicular to [010]. These interconnected sheets generate two types of channels parallel to the c axis, in which the Ag+ cations are located. The validity and adequacy of the proposed structural model of Ag1.64Zn1.64Fe1.36(PO4)3 was established by means of bond-valence-sum (BVS) and charge-distribution (CHARDI) analysis tools.

Single crystals of strontium tetracobalt tris(orthophosphate) hydroxide, SrCo4(OH)(PO4)3, were grown serendipitously under hydrothermal conditions at 473 K. The crystal structure consists of undulating chains of edge-sharing [CoO6] octahedra that are linked into (010) layers by common vertices between chains. Adjacent layers are linked along [010] into a framework structure by tetrahedral [CoO4] units and by PO4 tetrahedra. The framework delimits channels extending along [100] in which the eleven-coordinate strontium cations are situated. Bifurcated O—H...O hydrogen bonds of weak strengths consolidate the crystal packing. The title compound was also characterized by infrared spectroscopy.

In the title molecular salt, 1,3-dimethyl-2,6-dioxo-2,3,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-purin-9-ium aquatrichloridozincate(II), (C7H9N4O2)[ZnCl3(H2O)], the fused ring system of the cation is close to planar, with the largest deviation from the mean plane being 0.037 (3) Å. In the complex anion, the ZnII cation is coordinated by three chloride ions and one oxygen atom from the water ligand in a distorted tetrahedral geometry. In the crystal, inversion dimers between pairs of cations linked by pairwise N—H...O hydrogen bonds generate R22(10) rings. The anions are linked into dimers by pairs of O—H...Cl hydrogen bonds and the respective dimers are linked by O—H...O and N—H...Cl hydrogen bonds. Together, these generate a three-dimensional supramolecular network. Hirshfeld surfaces were generated to gain further insight into the packing.

Single crystals of sodium copper(II) indium bis[phosphate(V)], NaCuIn(PO4)2, were grown from the melt under atmospheric conditions. The title phosphate crystallizes in the space group P21/n and is isotypic with KCuFe(PO4)2. In the crystal, two [CuO5] trigonal bipyramids share an edge to form a dimer [Cu2O8] that is connected to two PO4 tetrahedra. The obtained [Cu2P2O12] units are interconnected through vertices to form sheets that are sandwiched between undulating layers resulting from the junction of PO4 tetrahedra and [InO6] octahedra. The two types of layers are alternately stacked along [101] and are joined into a three-dimensional framework through vertex- and edge-sharing, leaving channels parallel to the stacking direction. The channels host the sodium cations that are surrounded by four oxygen atoms in form of a distorted disphenoid.

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C10H11NO4, which was synthesized via nitration reaction of eugenol (4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol) with a mixture of nitric acid and sulfuric acid, consists of three independent molecules of similar geometry. Each molecule displays an intramolecular hydrogen bond involving the hydroxide and the nitro group forming an S(6) motif. The crystal cohesion is ensured by intermolecular C—H...O hydrogen bonds in addition to π–π stacking interactions between the aromatic rings [centroid–centroid distances = 3.6583 (17)–4.0624 (16) Å]. The Hirshfeld surface analysis and the two-dimensional fingerprint plots show that H...H (39.6%), O...H/H...O (37.7%), C...H/H...C (12.5%) and C...C (4%) are the most important contributors towards the crystal packing.

Crystals of the new compound, AgSr4Cu4.5(PO4)6, were grown successfully by the hydrothermal process. The asymmetric unit of the crystal structure of the title compound contains 40 independent atoms (4 Sr, 4.5 Cu, 1 Ag, 6 P and 24 O), which are all in general positions except for one Cu atom, which is located on an inversion centre. The Cu atoms are arranged in CuOn (n = 4 or 5) polyhedra, linked through common oxygen corners to build a rigid three-dimensional motif. The connection of these copper units is assured by PO4 tetrahedra. This arrangement allows the construction of layers extending parallel to the (100) plane and hosts suitable cavities in which Ag+ and Sr2+ cations are located. The crystal-structure cohesion is ensured by ionic bonds between the silver and strontium cations and the oxygen anions belonging to two adjacent sheets. Charge-distribution analysis and bond-valence-sum calculations were used to validate the structural model.

In the present study, following a one-pot two-step protocol, we have synthesized novel sulfonamides-isoxazolines hybrids (3a-r) via a highly regioselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition. The present methodology capitalized on trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) as a safe and ecological oxidant and chlorinating agent for the in-situ conversion of aldehydes to nitrile oxides in the presence of hydroxylamine hydrochloride, under ultrasound activation. These nitrile oxides could be engaged in 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions with various alkene to afford the targeted sulfonamides-isoxazolines hybrids (3a-r). The latter were assessed for their antineoplastic activity against model leukemia cell lines (Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, K562 and Promyelocytic Leukemia, HL-60).

In the title inorganic molecular salt, (N2H5)2SiF6, the silicon atom at the centre of the slightly distorted SiF6 octahedron [range of Si—F distances = 1.6777 (4)–1.7101 (4) Å] lies on a crystallographic inversion centre. In the crystal, the ions are connected by N—H...N and N—H...F hydrogen bonds; the former link the cations into [010] chains and the latter (some of which are bifurcated or trifurcated) link the ions into a three-dimensional network. The two-dimensional fingerprint plots show that F...H/H...F interactions dominate the Hirshfeld surface (75.5%) followed by H...H (13.6%) and N...H/H...N (8.4%) whereas F...F (1.9%) and F...N/N...F (0.6%) have negligible percentages. The title compound is isostructural with its germanium-containing analogue.

The crystal structures of dirubidium potassium dysprosium bis(vanadate), Rb2KDy(VO4)2, and caesium potassium gadolinium bis(vanadate), Cs1.52K1.48Gd(VO4)2, were solved from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. Both compounds, synthesized by the reactive flux method, crystallize in the space group P\overline{3}m1 with the glaserite structure type. VO4 tetrahedra are linked to DyO6 or GdO6 octahedra by common vertices to form sheets stacking along the c axis. The large twelve-coordinate Cs+ or Rb+ cations are sandwiched between these layers in tunnels along the a and b axes, while the K+ cations, surrounded by ten oxygen atoms, are localized in cavities.

A new quinoline-based hydrazone, C16H12ClN3, was synthesized by a condensation reaction of 2-chloro-3-formylquinoline with phenylhydrazine. The quinoline ring system is essentially planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.012 Å), and forms a dihedral angle of 8.46 (10)° with the phenyl ring. The molecule adopts an E configuration with respect to the central C=N bond. In the crystal, molecules are linked by a C—H...π-phenyl interaction, forming zigzag chains propagating along the [10\overline{3}] direction. The N—H hydrogen atom does not participate in hydrogen bonding but is directed towards the phenyl ring of an adjacent molecule, so linking the chains via weak N—H...π interactions to form of a three-dimensional structure. The Hirshfeld surface analysis of the crystal structure indicates that the most important contributions to the crystal packing are from H...H (35.5%), C...H/H...C (33.7%), Cl...H/H...Cl (12.3%), N...H/H...N (9.5%) contacts.

The reaction of 2,5-bis(pyridin-4-yl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (4-pox) and thiocyanate ions, used as co-ligand with nickel salt NiCl2·6H2O, produced the title complex, [Ni(NCS)2(C12H8N4O)2(H2O)2]. The NiII atom is located on an inversion centre and is octahedrally coordinated by four N atoms from two ligands and two pseudohalide ions, forming the equatorial plane. The axial positions are occupied by two O atoms of coordinated water molecules. In the crystal, the molecules are linked into a three-dimensional network through strong O—H...N hydrogen bonds. Hirshfeld surface analysis was used to investigate the intermolecular interactions in the crystal packing.

Single crystals of dibarium cobalt(II) bis(orthoborate), Ba2Co(BO3)2, have been obtained from the melt. The crystal structure is composed of two isolated (BO3)3− triangles linked to Co2+ cations. The resulting [CoO5] square pyramids and the borate anions make up branched rows extending parallel to [010]. The barium cations occupy two sites in the voids of this arrangement and exhibit coordination numbers of nine each. A comparison with the structures of other A2M(BO3)2 compounds reveals a unique five-coordination of the small metal M in the title compound instead of four- or six-coordination for the other A2M(BO3)2 compounds with M = Cu, Zn, Mg, Ca, or Cd.

The ten-membered ring in the title molecule, C25H29ClN2O7, adopts an approximate chair–chair conformation, whereas the five-membered furan and pyrazole rings display envelope conformations. The mean plane of the furan ring is almost perpendicular to that of the pyrazole ring, as indicated by the dihedral angle between them of 86.45 (9)°. The pyrazole ring is slightly inclined to the plane of the attached phenyl ring, subtending a dihedral angle of 16.88 (8)°. The conformation of the molecule is stabilized by six intramolecular hydrogen bonds and crystal cohesion is ensured by five C—H...O hydrogen bonds, in addition to C—H...π interactions.

Single crystals of two new phosphates, sodium magnesium indium(III) tris(orthophosphate) and silver magnesium indium(III) tris(orthophosphate), were obtained from solid-state reactions. The two phosphates are isotypic and exhibit alluaudite-type structures. They are characterized by a cationic disorder of the Mg and In sites and a partial occupation of the Na and Ag sites, respectively. The structure of both phosphates is made up of chains of edge-sharing [(Mg,In)O6] octahedra extending parallel to [10\overline{1}]. Adjacent chains are linked by PO4 tetrahedra to form a three-dimensional framework delimiting two types of channels parallel to [001] in which the monovalent cations are situated. The coordination numbers of the Na+ cations are 6 and 8, and for both Ag+ cations 6. The corresponding coordination spheres are considerably distorted.

The title compound, Ag2Zn2Fe(VO4)3, has been synthesized by solid-state reactions and belongs to the alluaudite structure family. In the crystal structure, four sites are positioned at special positions. One silver site is located on an inversion centre (Wyckoff position 4b), and an additional silver site, as well as one zinc and one vanadium site, on twofold rotation axes (4e). One site on a general position is statistically occupied by FeIII and ZnII cations that are octahedrally surrounded by O atoms. The three-dimensional framework structure of the title vanadate results from [(Zn,Fe)2O10] units of edge-sharing [(Zn,Fe)O6] octahedra that alternate with [ZnO6] octahedra so as to form infinite chains parallel to [10\overline{1}]. These chains are linked through VO4 tetrahedra by sharing vertices, giving rise to layers extending parallel to (010). Such layers are shared by common vanadate tetrahedra. The resulting three-dimensional framework delimits two types of channels parallel to [001] in which the silver sites are located with four- and sixfold coordination by oxygen.

A new potassium-nickel iron phosphate, K3Ni6Fe(PO4)6, has been synthesized by solid-state reaction and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and qualitative energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis. The structure is built up by [FeO6], [PO4], and [NiO6] coordination polyhedra, which are linked to each other by edge and corner sharing to form zigzag layers parallel to the ab plane. These layers are interconnected by [PO4] tetrahedra and [NiO6] octahedra via common corners, leading to a three-dimensional framework delimiting large channels running along the [100] direction in which the K+ cations are localized.

Two new orthophosphates, BaMn2Fe(PO4)3 [barium dimanganese(II) iron(III) tris(orthophosphate)] and SrMn2Fe(PO4)3 [strontium dimanganese(II) iron(III) tris(orthophosphate)], were synthesized by solid-state reactions. They are isotypic and crystallize in the orthorhombic system with space group type Pbcn. Their crystal structures comprise infinite zigzag chains of edge-sharing FeO6 octahedra (point group symmetry .2.) and Mn2O10 double octahedra running parallel to [001], linked by two types of PO4 tetrahedra. The so-formed three-dimensional framework delineates channels running along [001], in which the alkaline earth cations (site symmetry .2.) are located within a neighbourhood of eight O atoms.

In the title compound, C22H25NO5·H2O, the ten-membered ring displays an approximate chair–chair conformation, whereas the five-membered furan ring has an envelope conformation, with the C atom of the methine group adjacent to the spiro C atom as the flap. The isoxazole ring is almost planar and its plane is slightly inclined to the plane of the attached phenyl ring. The mean plane of the furan ring is nearly perpendicular to that of the isoxazole ring, as indicated by the dihedral angle between them of 89.39 (12)°. In the crystal, the organic molecules are linked into [010] chains by O—H...O hydrogen bonds. The water molecule forms O—H...O and O—H...N hydrogen bonds and a weak C—H...O interaction is also observed. Together, these lead to a three-dimensional network.

The title compound, C16H16N2O6, lies about an inversion centre at the mid-point of the N—N bond. The molecule features two intramolecular O—H...N and two C—H...O hydrogen bonds, each of which forms an S(6) ring motif. In the crystal, molecules are linked by C—H...O hydrogen bonds into infinite zigzag chains propagating along the c-axis direction. π–π stacking interactions between the pyrone rings [centroid–centroid distances = 3.975 (2) Å] stack the molecules along b.

In the title compound, C7H4N2O3S, the dihedral angle between the fused ring system (r.m.s. deviation = 0.008 Å) and the nitro group at the 6-position is 7.3 (2)°. In the crystal, bifurcated N—H...(O,O) hydrogen bonds link the molecules into [010] chains. The chains are cross-linked by π–π stacking interactions to form (001) sheets.

The title compound, SrCo2Fe(PO4)3, has been synthesized by a solid-state reaction. It crystallizes with the α-CrPO4 type structure. In this structure, all atoms are on special positions of the Imma space group, except for two O atoms which are located on general positions. The three-dimensional network in the crystal structure is made up of two types of layers stacked normal to (100). The first layer is built from two edge-sharing CoO6 octahedra, leading to the formation of Co2O10 dimers that are connected to two PO4 tetrahedra by a common edge and corners. The second layer results from apex-sharing FeO6 octahedra and PO4 tetrahedra, which form linear chains alternating with a zigzag chain of SrII cations. These layers are linked together by common vertices of PO4 tetrahedra and FeO6 octahedra to form an open three-dimensional framework that delimits two types of channels parallel to [100] and [010] where the SrII cations are located. Each SrII cation is surrounded by eight O atoms.

Single crystals of the title compounds, disodium di(cobalt/iron) cobalt tris(orthovanadate), Na2(Fe/Co)2Co(VO4)3, and disilver di(cobalt/iron) cobalt tris(orthovanadate), Ag2(Fe/Co)2Co(VO4)3, were grown from a melt consisting of stoichiometric mixtures of three metallic cation precursors and vanadium pentoxide. The difficulty to distinguish between cobalt and iron by using X-ray diffraction alone forced us to explore several models, assuming an oxidation state of +II for Co and +III for Fe and a partial cationic disorder in the Wyckoff site 8f containing a mixture of Co and Fe with a statistical distribution for the Na compound and an occupancy ratio of 0.4875:0.5125 (Co:Fe) for the Ag compound. The alluaudite-type structure is made up from [10-1] chains of [(Co,Fe)2O10] double octahedra linked by highly distorted [CoO6] octahedra via a common edge. The chains are linked through VO4 tetrahedra, forming polyhedral sheets perpendicular to [010]. The stacking of the sheets defines two types of channels parallel to [001] where the Na+ cations (both with full occupancy) or Ag+ cations (one with occupancy 0.97) are located.

The title compound, CaNi2Fe(PO4)3, was synthesized by solid-state reactions. Its structure is closely related to that of α-CrPO4 in the space group Imma. Except for two O atoms in general positions, all atoms are located in special positions. The three-dimensional framework is built up from two types of sheets extending parallel to (100). The first sheet is made up from two edge-sharing [NiO6] octahedra, leading to the formation of [Ni2O10] double octahedra that are connected to two PO4 tetrahedra through a common edge and corners. The second sheet results from rows of corner-sharing [FeO6] octahedra and PO4 tetrahedra forming an infinite linear chain. These layers are linked together through common corners of PO4 tetrahedra and [FeO6] octahedra, resulting in an open three-dimensional framework that delimits two types of channels parallel to [100] and [010] in which the eightfold-coordinated CaII cations are located.

The new silver-, cobalt- and iron-based phosphate, silver cobalt iron tris(orthophosphate), Ag1.655Co1.64Fe1.36(PO4)3, was synthesized by solid-state reactions. Its structure is isotypic to that of Na2Co2Fe(PO4)3, and belongs to the alluaudite family, with a partial cationic disorder, the AgI atoms being located on an inversion centre and twofold rotation axis sites (Wyckoff positions 4a and 4e), with partial occupancies of 0.885 (2) and 0.7688 (19), respectively. One of the two P atoms in the asymmetric unit completely fills one 4e site while the Co and Fe atoms fill another 4e site, with partial occupancies of 0.86 (5) and 0.14 (5), respectively. The remaining Co2+ and Fe3+ cations are distributed on a general position, 8f, in a 0.39 (4):0.61 (4) ratio. All O atoms and the other P atoms are in general positions. The structure is built up from zigzag chains of edge-sharing [MO6] (M = Fe/Co) octahedra stacked parallel to [101]. These chains are linked together through PO4 tetrahedra, forming polyhedral sheets perpendicular to [010]. The resulting framework displays two types of channels running along [001], in which the AgI atoms (coordination number eight) are located.

The molecule of the title compound, C22H15NO2S, is built up from a benzothiophene system linked to an isoxazoline ring which is connected to two phenyl rings. The benzothiophene system is essentially planar, while the isoxazoline ring displays an envelope conformation with the spiro C atom as the flap. The mean plane through the isoxazoline ring is slightly inclined to one phenyl ring by 5.74 (13)° and is approximately perpendicular [86.10 (10)°] to the fused ring system and to the other phenyl ring [84.31 (12)°]. In the crystal, molecules are linked together by C—H...O hydrogen bonds and by π–π interactions between the fused ring systems [intercentroid distance = 3.702 (2) Å], forming a three-dimensional network.

The title compound, C25H20N2O5, crystallizes with two molecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit with similar conformations. The five-membered rings are both in envelope conformations with the spiro C atom as the flap. The six-membered heterocycles display half-chair conformations. The mean plane through the isoxazole ring is nearly perpendicular to those through the spiro-chroman system and the 4-nitrophenyl moieties, as indicated by the dihedral angles of 81.42 (9) and 87.58 (8)°, respectively, between them in molecule A. Equivalent data for molecule B are 75.58 (9) and 84.15 (8)°, respectively. The p-tolyl plane makes a dihedral angles of 24.10 (9) and 28.78 (8)° with the isoxazole ring in molecules A and B, respectively. In the crystal, molecules are linked by C—H...O and C—H...N hydrogen bonds and C—H...π interaction, forming a three-dimensional network.

The title compound, C15H17NO2, was synthesized in two steps from a mixture of α-himachalene (2-methylene-6,6,9-trimethylbicyclo[5.4.01,7]undec-8-ene), β-himachalene (2,6,6,9-tetramethylbicyclo[5.4.01,7]undeca-1,8-diene) and γ-himachalene (2,6,6,9-tetramethylbicyclo[5.4.01,7]undeca-2,8-diene), which was isolated from an essential oil of the Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica). The nitro group and the isopropyl group lie almost normal to the mean plane of the naphthalene moiety, making dihedral angles of 83.13 (19) and 71.72 (16)°, respectively, and are inclined to one another by 49.8 (2)°. In the crystal, molecules are linked by pairs of C—H...π interactions and weak C—H...O interactions.

The title compound, C17H19NO3, was synthesized in four steps from a mixture of α-, β- and γ-himachalene, which was isolated from an essential oil of the Atlas cedar (Cedrus Atlantica). The dihedral angle between the two rings of the naphthalene unit is 1.38 (9)°. The nitro group and the acetyl group lie almost normal to the mean plane of the naphthalene unit, making dihedral angles of 79.35 (16)° and 89.75 (17)°, respectively, and are inclined to one another by 52.9 (2)°. There is an intramolecular C—H...O hydrogen bond present involving a nitro O atom and the H atom of the methyl C atom of the isopropyl group, forming an S(7) ring motif. In the crystal, molecules are linked by pairs of C—H...π interactions, forming inversion dimers. There are no other significant intermolecular interactions present.

The title compound, SrNi2Fe(PO4)3, synthesized by solid-state reaction, crystallizes in an ordered variant of the α-CrPO4 structure. In the asymmetric unit, two O atoms are in general positions, whereas all others atoms are in special positions of the space group Imma: the Sr cation and one P atom occupy the Wyckoff position 4e (mm2), Fe is on 4b (2/m), Ni and the other P atom are on 8g (2), one O atom is on 8h (m) and the other on 8i (m). The three-dimensional framework of the crystal structure is built up by [PO4] tetrahedra, [FeO6] octahedra and [Ni2O10] dimers of edge-sharing octahedra, linked through common corners or edges. This structure comprises two types of layers stacked alternately along the [100] direction. The first layer is formed by edge-sharing octahedra ([Ni2O10] dimer) linked to [PO4] tetrahedra via common edges while the second layer is built up from a strontium row followed by infinite chains of alternating [PO4] tetrahedra and FeO6 octahedra sharing apices. The layers are held together through vertices of [PO4] tetrahedra and [FeO6] octahedra, leading to the appearance of two types of tunnels parallel to the a- and b-axis directions in which the Sr cations are located. Each Sr cation is surrounded by eight O atoms.

Single crystals of the title compound, CaZn2Fe(PO4)3, were synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction. In the asymmetric unit, all atoms are located in fully occupied general positions of the P21/c space group. The zinc atoms are located on two crystallographically independent sites with tetrahedral and distorted triangular-based bipyramidal geometries. Two edge-sharing triangular bipyramidal ZnO5 units form a dimer, which is linked to slightly deformed FeO6 octahedra via a common edge. The resulting chains are interconnected through PO4 tetrahedra to form a layer perpendicular to the b axis. Moreover, the remaining PO4 and ZnO4 tetrahedra are linked together through common vertices to form tapes parallel to the c axis and surrounding a chain of Ca2+ cations to build a sheet, also perpendicular to the b axis. The stacking of the two layers along the b axis leads to the resulting three-dimensional framework, which defines channels in which the Ca2+ cations are located, each cation being coordinated by seven oxygen atoms.

The mononuclear title complex, [Cu(SCN)2(C12H8N4S)2], was obtained by the reaction of 2,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole and potassium thiocyanate with copper(II) chloride dihydrate. The copper cation lies on an inversion centre and displays an elongated octahedral coordination geometry. The equatorial positions are occupied by the N atoms of two 2,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole ligands, whereas the axial positions are occupied by the S atoms of two thiocyanate anions. The thiadiazole and the pyridyl rings linked to the metal are approximately coplanar, with a maximum deviation from the mean plane of 0.190 (2) Å. The cohesion of the crystal structure is ensured by weak C—H...N hydrogen bonds and π–π interactions between parallel pyridyl rings of neighbouring molecules [centroid-to-centroid distance = 3.663 (2) Å], leading to a three-dimensional network.

The title compound, sodium (sodium,manganese) triiron(II,III) tris[vanadate(V)], (Na0.70)(Na0.70,Mn0.30)(Fe3+,Fe2+)2Fe2+(VO4)3, was prepared by solid-state reactions. It crystallizes in an alluaudite-like structure, characterized by a partial cationic disorder. In the structure, four of the 12 sites in the asymmetric unit are located on special positions, three on a twofold rotation axis (Wyckoff position 4e) and one on an inversion centre (4b). Two sites on the twofold rotation axis are entirely filled by Fe2+ and V5+, whereas the third site has a partial occupancy of 70% by Na+. The site on the inversion centre is occupied by Na+ and Mn2+ cations in a 0.7:0.3 ratio. The remaining Fe2+ and Fe3+ atoms are statistically distributed on a general position. The three-dimensional framework of this structure is made up of kinked chains of edge-sharing [FeO6] octahedra stacked parallel to [10-1]. These chains are held together by VO4 tetrahedral groups, forming polyhedral sheets perpendicular to [010]. Within this framework, two types of channels extending along [001] are present. One is occupied by (Na+/Mn2+) while the second is partially occupied by Na+. The mixed site containing (Na+/Mn2+) has an octahedral coordination sphere, while the Na+ cations in the second channel are coordinated by eight O atoms.

The 4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one moiety of the title molecule, C16H16N2O2, displays a half-chair conformation. The least-squares mean plane through this heterocycle is almost perpendicular to the aromatic ring [dihedral angle = 89.52 (8)°] and to the prop-2-ynyl chain [C—C—N—C torsion angle of −73.2 (2)°]. The mean plane through the acetyl group makes a dihedral angle of 30.93 (10)° with the mean plane of the heterocycle. There is an intramolecular C—H...O hydrogen bond forming an S(6) ring motif. In the crystal, molecules are linked by pairs of N—H...O hydrogen bonds forming inversion dimers.

In the title compound, C18H20N2O4, the 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one ring has a screw-boat conformation. The mean plane through this heterocycle is almost perpendicular to the prop-2-ynyl chain and to the benzene ring, with which it makes a dihedral angle of 87.63 (6)°. The plane through the acetyl group makes a dihedral angle of 33.11 (8)° with the mean plane of the heterocycle. There is an intramolecular C—H...O hydrogen bond present forming an S(6) ring motif. In the crystal, molecules are linked by C—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming layers parallel to the bc plane. There are also C—H...π interactions present within the layers.

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, 2C15H15N3O3S·H2O, comprises two crystallographically independent organic molecules and one water molecule, all in general positions. Each organic molecule comprises an indazolyl system linked through a sulfonamide group to a methoxybenzene ring. The most important difference between the two organic molecules is the dihedral angle between the fused-ring system and the methoxybenzene ring, which is 56.32 (7)° in one molecule and 35.35 (8)° in the other. In the crystal, the organic and water molecules are connected into supramolecular chains along the c axis through O—H...N, O—H...O, N—H...O and N—-H...N hydrogen bonds; in addition, a π–π interaction between pyrazolyl rings [inter-centroid separation = 3.7547 (12) Å] is noted.

The molecule of the title compound, C22H14ClNO2S, is built up from an isoxazole ring linked to a benzothiophene ring system with additional phenyl and 4-chlorophenyl substituents. The benzothiophene system is virtually planar with the largest deviation from the mean plane being 0.041 (2) Å, while the isoxazole ring adopts an envelope conformation. The plane of the benzothiophene ring system is almost perpendicular to those of the phenyl and the 4-chlorophenyl rings, with dihedral angles of 64.76 (10) and 82.81 (10)°, respectively, between them. The phenyl ring is inclined by 85.76 (12)° to the plane of the 4-chlorophenyl ring, which in turn lies close to the plane of the isoxazole ring. In the crystal, molecules are linked by weak C—H...O hydrogen bonds and offset π–π interactions between the aromatic rings of adjacent benzothiophene ring systems. These combine to form a three-dimensional network structure.

The 5-nitro-1H-indazol-1-yl moiety of the title compound, C15H10BrN3O3, is approximately planar, with the largest deviation from the mean plane being 0.079 (3) Å. The fused-ring system is virtually perpendicular to the mean plane through the 1-phenylethanone group, making a dihedral angle of 89.7 (2)°. In the crystal, pairs of molecules form inversion dimers via Br...O interactions [3.211 (2) Å]. The dimers are connected by C—H...O and C—H...N non-classical hydrogen bonds, in addition to π–π interactions [intercentroid distance = 3.6411 (12) Å], forming a three-dimensional network.

All the non-H atoms of the title compound, C15H17NO2, except the CH3 groups of the isopropyl unit and the O atoms of the nitro group, lie on a crystallographic mirror plane. The dihedral angle between the naphthalene plane and the nitro group is constrained to be 90° by symmetry. In the crystal, molecules are linked by π–π interactions [centroid–centroid separation = 3.6591 (4) Å] and stacked along the b-axis direction.

In the title compound, C18H27Cl2NO, the cyclohexene ring has an envelope conformation, with the C atom at the 9a position as the flap. The cycloheptane ring, to which it is fused, has a boat conformation. The dihedral angle between their mean planes is 60.7 (2)°. The 1,1-dichloro-cyclopropane ring is inclined to these two ring mean planes by 88.5 (3) and 28.3 (3)°, respectively. In the crystal, molecules are linked by N—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming 61 helices along the c-axis direction. The absolute configuration of the molecule in the crystal could be fully confirmed from anomalous dispersion effects [Flack parameter = 0.020 (15)].

The cation of the title molecular salt, C12H9N4S+·ClO4−, is approximately planar, with the pyridine and pyridinium rings being inclined to the central thiadiazole ring by 6.51 (9) and 9.13 (9)°, respectively. The dihedral angle between the pyridine and pyridinium rings is 12.91 (10)°. In the crystal, the cations are linked by N—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen bonds, involving the perchlorate anion, forming chains propagating along the [100] direction. The chains are linked by weak offset π–π interactions [inter-centroid distance = 3.586 (1) Å], forming layers parallel to the ab plane.

In the title compound, C10H10N2OS, the benzimidazole ring system is almost planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.007 Å), whereas the heterocyclic six-membered thiazine ring has an envelope conformation, with the hydroxy-substituted C atom as the flap. In the crystal, molecules are linked by O—H...N hydrogen bonds to form zigzag chains running along the b-axis direction. The chains are linked by C—H...O hydrogen bonds and C—H...π interactions, forming layers parallel to the bc plane.

The title compound, C17H24Cl2, was synthesized in four steps from β-himachalene (3,5,5,9-tetramethyl-2,4a,5,6,7,8-hexahydro-1H-benzocycloheptene), which was isolated from an essential oil of the Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica). The molecule is built from fused six- and seven-membered rings, and an additional three-membered ring. The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the cyclohexene and cycloheptane rings is 58.37 (19)°. There is an intramolecular C—H...Cl hydrogen bond present involving a Cl atom and the H atom of the unique methine C atom, forming an S(5) ring motif. There are no significant intermolecular interactions present.
